Is there a way to tether via wifi through the Eris that is NOT an ad-hoc network? I am trying to find a way to connect my Kindle when on the go and no access to wifi so I can get books. The Kindle cannot connect to an ad-hoc style, but rather says it needs an "infrastructure" connection or something similar to that.
Any help is appreciated.

now that we have a soft root for the wildfire, has anyone got barnacle (or any other wifi tethering app) to work? i'm trying to tether my ipad and it seems to connect to the access point, but there's no internet connection.
it seems as DHCP is not functioning correctly, the ipad doesn't get an ip for the gateway.

I've been trying to share internet connection from my laptop with gtab using "connectify". The wifi setting on the gtab actually says "connected" but I have no internet access I think it's because of ip config or something but i don't know how to fix it. Any idea what's going on?

I would assume your laptop is creating a peer-to-peer or AdHoc network that Android can struggle with. There are no less than a dozen threads on this here. Some fixes for connecting to AdHoc but my experience has been that you will need a Infrastructure network to connect to with no issues. Use the search field upper right.
I would like to be able to connect my phone to my galaxy 10.1 tablet (not to internet share) over wifi to enable me to use lazydroid's application to remotely view the phone screen on the tablet. I DO NOT want to share the internet to the tablet but want to maintain internet connection on the phone only.
I was thinking that this could be doable by setting up an ad hoc connection on the thunderbolt thereby allowing my tablet to connect to it but can't seem to get this to work while keeping the 3g/4g data network active. Does anyone have any help or suggestions?
Thanks!
I have a nook tablet (not rooted) that will not connect to my Droid X2 (rooted) tether wireless connection. I am able to connect to the tether wireless connection with my laptop though. Thoughts or somehow to resolve this issue??
Your Droid2 is likely broadcasting in ad-hoc mode. Android cannot by default, connect to ad-hoc networks, only infrastructure. Your laptop can do both.
Look around the forums here for the ad-hoc fix.
thanks
Thank you for the response, I will have to check around to find that fix.
Hi, I happen to be usually in a place where the network is mac filtered, so I can only connect with my mobile and not with my tablet.
I can't tether wifi to wifi, as it's not possible with the mobile.
The tablet (Pipo S3) doesn't has bluetooth. I haven't been able to change it's mac address, but it could solve the problem if I could find the way.
So, as bluetooth is not an option, the only thing remaining is doing it via usb. I've googled and found a lot of tether apps, but from android to computers, no from android to android via usb.
Does someone know how to do it? Thanks.
