[Q] A little advice from the pro's please, - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

I'm hoping someone picks this up and can advise me on the best way to go with my x10mini. I'm fairly new to android and have been considering rooting my device for sometime now, the only thing that's stopped me is this, which is the best/safest method to go about it? I first found the Superoneclick method and figured I could manage that, then found another method which eludes me at the moment, now I've found this, from here
talkandroid.com
and here
Android SDK
"You will need ADB from Android SDK and USB drivers for X10 mini (part of Sony Ericsson PC Companion).
Enable USB debugging on the phone in Settings>Applications>Development and connect the phone to PC via USB.
Add the Power management widget to your active widgets on the phone, so you can quickly trun off and on the wi-fi function."
Pretty sure I could manage this too but before I root my device could someone please tell me what I risk in doing this and the percentage chance of the risk occurring? Absolutely love the Android ethos, it has inspired me to seek out Android info and self teach app development, I need to root my device but don't want to make it never work again. I believe I can trust these downloads, they look safe, but advice from a seasoned Android rooter would be greatly appreciated.

I used SuperOneClick method found in this forum. its a breeze and never fail me

yeah, i figured that could be the way to go, still bit concerned about writing my phone off tho. S'pose I'll just have to take the plunge.

SuperOneClick does the job...the best.

Thanks for the feed back, good to know that people on here are willing to help no matter the level of knowledge someone has, this has given me the confidence to get things done now. Thanks again, I'll be back if I'm having problems.

there is an 2.1 sense rom for mini and pro only problem is that nothign is workign in it...
and nobody want to work on it coz sense really slows down a mini or an mini pro
and we got 2.2.1 and 2.3.3 now
It wasn't to bad, I personally thought it was a good idea, for those of us that want it anyway, if I knew what to do I would try to develop it myself, if you could prvode some tips on what to do, then by all means, I'll give it a go

Guide: Mini Pro stock 2.1 to 2.2

I've made this guide on my tiny homepage explaining how to upgrade from Stock 2.1 to the newest CM6-Latest 5.0 & MiniCM based on Android 2.2 from D4rKn3sSyS.
It is ment to be a beginner friendly guide with a low barrier of entry.
It's here:

Any feedback will be appreciated, what could be explained better, what lacks etc.
Dude could you please use the search function first before making a thread about something that everyone know already

Actually, very few guides takes you in great detail from stock to a custom ROM in a single guide in the amount of detail I've done and with references to all the relevant sources. It is not meant for the loads of hardcore users in here and would to you might seem like repetition. For non geeks however, the story is different.
But then again, I wasn't asking if you could use it, I was asking if you could find anything wrong with it or that could be improved
Thing is there is loads of feeds about rooting this phone and some do it difernt to uthers so don't wast space bud

[IDEA] XPERIA Play ROM

Dump Here:
For the key mapping, which i know would be an issue, i have ideas for that too
W - Up
A - Left
X - Down
D - Right
Home - Home
Back - Back
Menu - Menu
Search - Physical Z (Or On Screen Key)
Analogs - On Screens (We dont have analogs on our phones, so we need to have onscreen.)
For mini, we need To have it all Onscreen, but in Landscape mode they will pop up.
It should also be a option on the pro.
It would only work on the pro though because to use the sticks properly we need multitouch so I guess mini is out the window

Yeah, but wanna team up in creating/porting it?
man in pretty good with computers but i dont think i would be able to do something like this im not too good at coding i can do pc java and more basic android java but i think this would be real hard well maybe not the keyboard bit that might acrually be simple but sticks would be hard so we would probably need a guy like dark hes pretty good with apps
i think you can't port the control exactly
but my idea is port the control from a emulator app from the maket
This is how you get things done ,can't wait for this good luck lads

Not trying to kill ur idea but
Xperia play has much better specs than pro
Also when pro is overloaded there is an big delay from the keyboard
So right now it's impossible unless that rom will be ultra light

This is exactly what I was thinking about the port.
Xperia Play arm v7, and Xperia X10 Mini/Pro arm v6. It speaks to us about impossibility port!
Xperia Play arm v7, а Xperia X10 Mini/Pro arm v6. это нам говорит о невозможности портирования!

[APP] Touch Control ClockworkMod Recovery

Some very clever people in another part of the forum have come up with a touch control version of ClockworkMod Recovery and they've released the source code.
Does anyone fancy the challenge of porting this over to the Mini/Mini Pro?
The original post is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485829
For our devices and custom GB Kernel is faster to use the sources from Samsung Galaxi Mini: [DEV][UPDATE]ClockWorkMod Touch Recovery Lilg Version for Galaxy Mini and Squadzone / android_bootable_recovery
But probably it is better to use DooMLoRD sources that he use for Xperia devices (supported devices: Xperia ARC, PLAY, X10; HTC Flyer, JetStream): DooMLoRD / CWM-Recovery-Modded
NobodyAtall can probably use these sources and include it on next Kernel GB version?
Would be great!
We would just have to wait for nAa do it.
I am curious about why he don't managed to do this yet.
It's a hard job or there are limitations or something like that?

If I helped, please press Thanks.
I have a Play and a Mini Pro, and I don't use the touch recovery. I don't think there is the need to, unless there are not enough hardware buttons present.

Agreed, nAa kernel provides everything you need so theres no mistakes etc, what happens if you accidentally wipe data? Fat finger syndrome

The touchscreen implementation if not done correctly can also cause the recovery to crash. If you want a GUI based installer for a ROM, ask the dev to use AROMA Installer, I use it on my Darkforest 3 ROM and it works well on the R800i (Xperia Play)

Although I like the Idea of maximizing our devices capabilites and looking after those that have malfunctioning hardware buttons, I can only see this causing more problems than good!!
I have terribly fat fingers for a slim person haha I have more than enough difficulty trying to press widgets and icon links on my screen!!!
I'm not saying it's not worth trying out, but I don't believe it will make anything more simple or provide better functionailty to our mini's

Sort of off topic, but...

This was Peter Parker's smartphone in the Amazing Spider-Man. Just an interesting bit of trivia.
that was stock x10 mini or x10 mini pro i believe
It was actually x10 mini pro, stock rom 2.1 Saw that too .
