USB mass storage slow - Optimus One, P500, V General

I am facing slow write speeds while sdcard is mounted. I may say that these slow speeds appeared after I have used S2E app, but right now I've erased all the SDCard and created a single FAT32 partition.
I don't know the cause of these slow speeds, may be the CM7? I'm currently using beta 6.5.2, but on all versions of CM7 was behaving the same. It seems that is a little faster when mounted in recovery, but while mounted while the android is up, the speed is very slow, less than 1 MB/s. Also the CPU usage is very high while writing.
Reading from the SDCard is very fast, over 10 MB/s. The card is a Kingmax class 4.
The card performs very well in a card reader, but it becomes frustrating that I cannot use it properly, it even writes faster while connected to a FTP server on the phone.
Any idea what can it be or does it happen to anyone else?

Buy sd card booster from market, or flash franco kernel. Xd

I've tried the sd card tool. It still doesn't work as it should. Mounted in recovery the write rate is over 5 MB/s and is constant. But when using both development mode and mass storage mode (development mode off), the speed is very low and also the file transfer almost hangs.
Looking in logs I could see frequent USB connects/disconnects which I cannot explain. The rom is freshly installed, also using franco kernel. I repeat, in recovery mode all is working as it should. Tried on multiple computers with USB drivers installed and reinstalled.
Thanks to everybody who is reading this, but I really don't know what to do with this issue.

Andy's rc3 rom solved this issue :d

[Q] (Q) Getting SD Card to read on Gingerbread Roms\Radios

Is there a way I can get my SD card mounted or read when conected to usb? it doesnt work on the Gingeritis Rom. No complaints to the Rom because I love it but just needed suggestions.
Change your charge mode to charge only? And if it is on that, change to pass through, give it a couple minutes and then change back. It sometimes seems to get stuck in the wrong mode.

[Q] USB Connected ==> no SD Card recognized

I feel like a total noob, so please be kind.
I connected my TB to the home PC today (windows XP), but I cannot access the SD card.
When connected to PC, SD Phone & Storage/Unmount SD card is grey'd out.
When disconnected from PC, SD PHone & Store/Unmount SD card is white (available).
My settings:
USB Connection type: Disk drive
Applications/Development: USB debugging is checked
I know for sure that I've been able to access the SD card when connected before. What in the heck am I doing wrong??
What's you're ROM?
Stock ROM. I'm trying to get rooted and need to transfer files to SD card.

I should also note...when connected to PC I can see the phone via Windows explorer. Just not the SD card. Weird.

You might try reseating the card?
I can read and write to the card no problem on the phone. It's the PC that can't see it. I have some pics and video of my kids on there right now so I want to avoid formatting unless absolutely necessary. I'll try reseating, rebooting phone and pc, and see if that kicks anything loose.

Guessing here, but if you are running a GB Rom with an older kernel, you might need to put the phone into internet passthrough mode, wait about 5 secs, then change it to disk drive. That problem was fixed in later kernels.

Make sure you pick disk drive mode and then wait. It takes sometimes a minute plus for my pc to see the second drive (sd card), first one (verizon) comes up quick.
After much tinkering in the past 12 hours I'm convinced the issue is on the Windows XP side and not my phone. I cannot access my wife's SD card either (she also has a thunderbolt). But I CAN access the SD cards in both phones via Ubuntu. So although I've got it narrowed down to XP, I still haven't figured out how to get XP to see it.

did you just connect and wait for a couple of minutes?
you might also want to check device manager make sure windows didn't have in issue loading. I've seen that happen, second the thoughts on waiting a few minutes to see if it shows. Had that happen a few times on windows machines.
Yeah, I waited about 20 minutes hoping something positive would happen. Nothing. I uninstalled the phones driver from 'My Computer/Manage'. Then rebooted the PC. Then plugged the phone back in. It downloaded a fresh driver. Still no SD card tho. Maybe its tome to reinstall XP and see if that fixes the problem.

Have you updated your drivers on your PC?
I have a computer running XP and I can see my sd card just fine on my TB.
I did have an older drivers and needed to load an newer one for it to work when I getting ready to first root my phone as well.
Try running this tool:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
I'm running x64 Windows 7, so I doubt the verison I have will help you. You can get a 32bit version from the link.
It's USBDeview and allows you to see all current connected USB devices as well as all previously used devices. Found it here on another thread, and it was fixing a number of user's issues.

[Q] Slow write speeds on Resurrection Remix v2.4.1

Hello Guys,
Resurrection Remix 2.4.1 is an amazing rom, no complains except one.
The write speed while transferring from PC to Phone (Internal SD or External SD) is worse than a class 2 card speed.
I have tried everything wipe/clear/fix permissions/different cables/different PC and the issue is still there. 1.2 - 1.5 mb/sec is horrendous.
My class 10 card feels like a waste now. So is there anything I am missing here?
Thanks!
I'm not use RR for a long time... but what settings are you using to connect with?
In System settings> Storage > click menu button and usb connection
There are 2 settings people usually use: MTP or Mass Storage.
MS is suppose to be faster but doesn't work properly on most roms I think... so MTP is often the better case.
Other than that... you're better off asking them on the RR thread (not sure if you can with your low post count **because most users don't look in Q&A).. but they have a website now that you shouldn't have problems posting on http://www.resurrectionremix.com/index.php

I'm experiencing the same issue. Thanks for the heads up on the RR site, I too don't have enough posts to reply in the RR thread, so that's a massive help. Site is blocked at work but I'll post there this evening.
In the mean time, I suspect the issue may be an ongoing problem based on the fact that it took multiple versions to get UMS to even see the external SD. Write speeds to the internal SD seem fine as ever, so I'd assume they're still ironing out the issues with UMS and external SDs.
@ OP: I only just switched back to UMS from MTP since the problems with UMS and external SD cropped up a few versions of RR ago. Is this the first version of AOKP RR to have working fully working UMS with the external SD? If not, were 2.3/2.4 etc. any faster when writing to the external SD?

MTP is enabled by default and it is as slow as USB Mass Storage.
SD tools shows speeds upto 9MB/s - Write and 50 MB/s - Read! (Shocking)
Heading off to the RR website. Thanks!

Usb transfer hanging & freezing

Does anyone know how to fix usb transfer from hanging when transfering or deleting a large file via pc. The progress bar will allways stop during transfer. Very annoying and it happens with all kinda of files not just a certain type. I think mtp and usb transfer are both doing it ! Its Been occouring for months on various roms just got to me now. help lol

try a different cable
From what I recall, most CM9/AOSP/AOKP roms have a data transfer issue. Transfer speeds are compromised and such.
You can try adjusting the SD card buffer w/ Rom Toolbox lite, or I use Samsung Kies Air to transfer via wifi, or just take out the darned Micro SD and slot it into my laptop and transfer.
I have tried two oem samsung cables. and its effects both internal and external cards. Atm im Running stock ics maybe it followed me from a asop rom? Anyway to reflash the stock usb properties? Or maybe the phones port is bad...?

if you flashed and wiped properly nothing gets left over... if you wish, just full wipe and reflash the Rom.
Does this happen on all pcs?

[Q] CM10 AKOP ROM SD card issue

HI Everybody,
I installed the AOKP CM10 ROM from this forum and the install went great. Thanks for that. Things were going along well but then it seems to have unmount the SD card. The card is mounted after a fresh reboot but then it is unmounted (and can't be remounted as far as I can tell) when the tablet goes to sleep (screen blank). The odd thing is that Root Explorer won't show the files but it has the correct usage of the card listed. It says the card is empty. If I reboot again, it's there and can be used. If it goes to sleep again the card is unmounted or put into the funky state. It's very odd.
I had CM7 (also from this forum) running on it previously and it did not have this issue. It had the WIFI problem when it when to sleep but the SD card was rock solid.
Any ideas about what I can do? The version of the ROM is cm10-jb-aokp acclaim unofficial 0.01 and I did upgrade CWM to the 6.0.1.5 version before starting the install.
Thanks in advance for the help.

try moving all ur apps that depend on the sd card to the tablet itself and that should solve your problems...
Thanks, I thought about that. I'm just wondering if it's a problem with CM10 or something else. I think I only have one app that is currently using the SD card. I'll move it and I'm pretty sure my issue will be worked around. Would be nice to have this fixed though. I put movies on the SD card to watch them on plane flights. If it's not really working it makes it hard to do that.
Thanks again.

The SD card unmounting is a known bug in all the CM10 ROMs, and seems to be linked to WiFi waking and sleeping. The most common work-around is to manually turn off WiFi before your tablet goes to sleep. Alternatively, you can use an app like AutomateIt or Tasker to have WiFi turn off when the screen turns off. Since installing AutomateIt and configuring it to turn off WiFi when the screen turns off, I haven't had a problem with the SD card unmounting (on either the AOKP ROM or Demetris' CherryPick ROM).

Thanks for that. However I have some new information. I was waiting to see if this turned out to be stable and it does seem to be working. So on the original work-around to move any apps from the SD card to the internal memory I had only one app, Aldiko reader. The odd thing was that even installing it the first time it wanted to install onto the SD card. There was no way to force the install to the internal storage. Anyway, once I moved the app everything started working. It's been 2 days now that the SD card has stayed mounted. Also, the WIFI has been working great moving between my home network and the work network. So I'm not sure what is going on with the Aldiko reader but it somehow was causing the SD card to unmount when the tablet went to sleep. Very odd.
Thanks for all the help. Everything is working and it's work great! I moved the launcher over to the Nova launcher today as I wanted more home sceens (not that I really needed them just to see if that would work and it does). I couldn't get the default CM10 launcher to do that, at least I couldn't find a configuration option to allow that.

What you saw with Aldiko was intentional on the dev's behalf -- Aldiko is configured to install to external storage if it's available, and to store your library on external storage as well. You need to manually move it to internal storage.
The SD card unmounting bug is not limited to Aldiko, though it would seem that way if Aldiko was the only app you had installed in external storage. If you install anything onto your SD card in the future, you'll continue to see this bug... Many folks here have been able to turn the bug on and off by changing the Wi-Fi settings, which is why the recommended work around is to use AutomateIt to turn Wi-Fi on and off with the Screen.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep all the apps in the internal storage.
You guys have been a big help.
I had the same issues. I installed the codefireX ROM and my SD card and WiFi work great now.
