I am facing slow write speeds while sdcard is mounted. I may say that these slow speeds appeared after I have used S2E app, but right now I've erased all the SDCard and created a single FAT32 partition.
I don't know the cause of these slow speeds, may be the CM7? I'm currently using beta 6.5.2, but on all versions of CM7 was behaving the same. It seems that is a little faster when mounted in recovery, but while mounted while the android is up, the speed is very slow, less than 1 MB/s. Also the CPU usage is very high while writing.
Reading from the SDCard is very fast, over 10 MB/s. The card is a Kingmax class 4.
The card performs very well in a card reader, but it becomes frustrating that I cannot use it properly, it even writes faster while connected to a FTP server on the phone.
Any idea what can it be or does it happen to anyone else?

Buy sd card booster from market, or flash franco kernel. Xd
I've tried the sd card tool. It still doesn't work as it should. Mounted in recovery the write rate is over 5 MB/s and is constant. But when using both development mode and mass storage mode (development mode off), the speed is very low and also the file transfer almost hangs.
Looking in logs I could see frequent USB connects/disconnects which I cannot explain. The rom is freshly installed, also using franco kernel. I repeat, in recovery mode all is working as it should. Tried on multiple computers with USB drivers installed and reinstalled.
Thanks to everybody who is reading this, but I really don't know what to do with this issue.

I've been playing around with cm7 since release, internal build so I haven't run into the brick problem, but I have noticed a couple issues that I never had with a plain 1.4.0 rooted nook tablet.
First, I am losing wifi connectivity when I let the tablet sleep for more than a few minutes. Wifi will remain on, but just scans indefinitely while finding no networks. Sometimes I have to toggle wifi off and on several times before it starts working again. I have never had it lose connectivity while it was active and doing something, only when I set it down for several minutes and then wake it up.
Secondly the youtube app has locked up my tablet requiring a reboot several times. Sometimes this happens on the first video played, sometimes I can get up to 4 or 5 before the screen just goes black and all input is ignored. I would have left this info on the alpha release thread, but I can't post there yet and wanted to pass this info along. I'm having a great time fooling around with it, and so far these are the only issues I've noticed.
I haven't had the wi-fi isses that I've noticed. Only things I've ran into are those already being discussed in the dev forum - the near-brick experience and larger apps not installing.
In spite of almost bricking, I've still been using the alpha over the last couple days and am definitely loving the freedom and speed over stock. Can't wait to see how awesome it becomes with further development.
The wifi issue can be fixed by adjusting the settings. You just need to turn off wifi sleep. I think this is a long time cm7 bug and not unique to this build. I have reverted to stock for now so I can't guide you through it, but I am pretty sure it's an easy adjustment. (I couldn't go without hulu while in the middle of watching a series.)

Yep, you just go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> WiFi Settings then press the menu button. This brings up a small menu bar with two options. Tap "Advanced" and you can change your wifi sleep policy there.

I believe the brick issue is in both the internal and SD release. Be sure to stay away from that SD card format button.

Yeah, I'm not sure where the misconception that it's the SD-Card version causing the problem, unless it's just confusion because the problem was cause by an SDCard Format....I think the issue occurs in either, and I know for sure the internal is succeptible to it, because mine is internal and I was an early-bricker.
Ok, my fault for not being clear I guess. I have no conceivable reason to format an sd-card from within the cm7 alpha release so I have continued using it. Turning wifi to always on seems to have fixed my wifi issues, with a negative impact on battery life.
Youtube is still crashing my NT with regularity but that probably has something to do with the generally bad video performance.

Yeah, Celtic and Gonce are working on fixing the video drivers. Right now they're a bit iffy.

I have not used Netflix on it yet so I'm not sure of the quality for that or youtube. I have no need to wipe SD card so will continue to explore any bugs.

CM7 beta bug report
Hello, I can't post to the development forum yet, but I thought the devs working on the next CM7 release for the NT should know about a potential bug. Also, I've only began using an android device about a month ago, so please forgive any noobish remarks. If after reading this, someone thinks it's important for the upcoming CM7 build release, please let someone on the development team know. Thanks.
I've been using an internal install of the beta build since it was released yesterday morning.
Everything has been working, very well, and I haven't been attempting to format sd cards from the device.
I've had one crash of ADW launcher when trying to add a playlist through the music player widget. I had a minor wifi hiccup that required toggling the wifi on and off to resolve. And a crash of the notification bar, when I attempted to click on an email notification message, which resolved by itself, seconds later.
The bug I'm most concerned about happened just about an hour ago. I noticed the battery getting low, so i plugged it in, powered on. It started charging, so i left it alone, a little while later, I looked at it, and the "n" on the charger had changed from orange to green, indicating a full charge. I awoke the nook from sleep to find that it was no longer charging, but that the battery was only about half charged. I unplugged it, and plugged it back in, but the status light was orange for only a second, before changing back to green, and no more charging.
I powered it off, and plugged it it (which of course made it turn back on /facepalm), but then powered it down through the power console as soon as CM7 booted. I has been powered off, and as far as i can tell charging normally, as indicated by the orange status of the charger's indicator. I intend to leave it powered off, and charging, until such time as the charging indicator turns green.
There may be some information here that is valuable to the Developers and you have attempted to articulate everything well.
However, is there some reason you chose to create a new thread instead of posting your issue In This One?
Perhaps the moderators can combine these threads but I'm sure the developers are more apt to look in one thread then trying to chase down multiple ones.
Good luck with your issues.
Aw crud. Totally didn't see that thread. If a mod could please combine, it would be appreciated.
Maybe the bug thread should be stickied?

I've been having crashing/force closes trying to stream video from sites like youtube.....but with a more mature content....if you know what I mean.
If I'm being too obscure....basically I can't stream porn onto it. Which, imo, is a device-killing bug!
(not really)
On the plus side, it seems like it charges pretty well through a USB connection now, where, if I'm not mistaken, it would not do so on stock. Although I only had stock for like 3 hours before zerging it, so I can't compare it very well....
I was also sitting up waiting on the release of this and have been running it every since then. the only real bugs I have seen is the unable to install alot of apps from the market as it gives the cant write to sdcard which is documented in the dev forums. my wireless does not seem to drain my battery much at all but the device itself never wanted to go into sleep mode unless I forced it into sleep. I changed the screen timeout and changed it right back and the issue resolved itself. Wireless does commonly go from full signal to 2 bars though but even when at 2 bars the connection seems fine and no loss of speed. as far as apps over 20 meg. the only ones I tried I had the apk file stored on my sd card and installed from there and they all installed just fine.
the device seems way more responsive now and I am absolutely loving it although i do miss the nook reader app itself and the one I downloaded from the market gives ab internal error : exception executing the command when I try and sign in Cant wait for the next release alpha or beta I would love to test it.

Go to the "Nook" folder on your sd card, then delete it. then try to sign in on the nook reader. This has worked for others who now have the nook app up and running on cm7

Mostly I'm seeing the occasional app not installing. Every time it has been because "sdcard is not mounted". Even though it obviously it mounted. Aldiko reader is my current villain in this regard. No Wireless problems, but I changed the advanced settings right away. Interface is nice and fast.

OK, so I spent the day testing out the leaked UCPLC5. It worked pretty cool and I liked it a lot, but there was a major issue that forced me to go back to UCKH7. I need to know if this is ICS exclusive or just caused by some bug in UCPLC5 (from here on called LC5). Obviously, when ICS is officially released for the sgh-i777, I would like to update, but not if this still exists.
The issue that I encountered was with the way that LC5 connects through USB. I am fuzzy on all the technical terms, so please bare with me. With Gingerbread, your computer used to show a separate External Storage Device for the internal and external SD drives (I think this is called UMS?). With LC5, however, it connects differently by showing up as a single Portable Device, which, when clicked, reveals the internal and external SD drives (I think this is called MTP?).
(I will use those MTP and UMS terms and I defined them above... please correct me if I am wrong, but also please use my current definitions throughout this post)
Now, with my computer UMS and MTP both work fine... no problems whatsoever. HOWEVER, I regularly use my phone as an MP3 player and ESPECIALLY plug it into my 2010 GMC Terrain via USB in order to listen to music from it. Doing this, I have NO issues using Gingerbread's UMS connectivity... as long as it hasd USB debugging enabled. With LC5's MTP though, my car no longer detects the phone for some reason. It always says that it is unsupported, blah blah blah. I tried everything from turning USB debugging on/off to installing the UMS1.0.apk app. The app made the phone work in my car, but broke connectivity between it and my computer!!!!
So, I NEED to know:
1) Does ICS ONLY support MTP and not support UMS like it did in Gingerbread?
2) Does LC5 simply not have the UMS option enabled yet?
3) Do you think that when ICS is officially released, it will be able to connect to my car if it only supports UMS?
Seriously, this is a BIIIIIIG deal for me. If my phone wont play music in my car, then I wont be updating. I would really appreciate any help on this issue.

I did. I was only given MTP and PTP; no actual UMS option.
Question:
I am currently back on UCKH7, so I can't test this now. Is it possible to uncheck BOTH the MTP and PTP options (thus leaving nothing checked)? If so, will this bring the phone into UMS without the need of that UMS app?
When I was running LC5, I was under the impression that you could only choose MTP OR PTP, but no matter what, one of the options had to be checked... I never actually tried to uncheck both options (d'oh!!!). Maybe that was my answer?

Yes, they did, but it turns out that UMS is still available on ICS, but not by default (MTP is default) and ONLY on devices with removable storage (like the sgh-i777 and NOT the Nexus). I Found this out this morning after doing some Googling. There are many websites talking about it, but here is one of them:
http://anythingbutiphone.com/10985
This morning, I reflashed ICS UCPLC5 and figured out how to get the phone to connect via UMS. First, USB Debugging must be turned off. Second, you go to "More" under "Wireless and Network" section > USB Utilities, then you push the small white/gray button, and then plug in your USB cable.
I think this is what 'gsrrr' was talking about earlier, but I misunderstood what he was telling me (I thought he meant something else, so I apologize for that; it was very late and I was tired).
So, after figuring this out, I tried it in my car and it works! YAY!
Now I have two more super minor issues: 1) I HATE that I have to do this now, but I guess I can learn to get used to it. It wouldnt make since for UMS to be completely taken out since according to many Linux users on the internet (Im a Windows user BTW), UMS is the only way to connect phones to the OS. Also, it would completely make some connections (like my connection between my phone and car) obsolete, which would probably piss off a LOT of Android users! 2) I really would LOVE to be able to create a shortcut that will take me directly to "USB Utilities," but I cannot figure out how to do this.
So, all in all, I guess my problem has been solved, but if anyone can tell me a surefire way to create a shortcut to "USB Utilities," please share it with me.

I am not trying to prove you wrong necessarily, but I AM trying to understand this because I am very confused right now. I was under the impression that I was flashing an official leaked firmware that was Sammy built, but tweaked by ATT.
1) To the best of my knowledge, I wasnt using CM9... I THOUGHT I was using what ATT is currently developing, unless ATT is using an AOSP or CM9-based firmware....
Here is what I flashed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568080
2) According to several websites, the solution I used seems to be the solution for the Galaxy S2 (ATT and Int)... however, I dont know if they are all talking about AOSP or not since they do not say so in the links:
http://www.jayceooi.com/tag/usb-mass-storage/
http://stuff.body-builders.org/enable-usb-on-ics/
3) According to Android Engineer Dan Morrill, UMS is still in ICS, but only usable by phones with external storage (ie, NOT the Nexus):
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...behind-galaxy-nexus-lack-of-usb-mass-storage/
4) It could also be that I am using the wrong terms here and basically making it so that everyone and myself are on two different pages. Let me clarify just to be safe (PLEASE correct me if I am wrong though! I cant go around using these terms incorrectly!):
When I am talking about UMS, I am meaning that my phone, when plugged into a computer, reads as though it is two separate drives, each with their own drive letter (in Windows, two separate drives will appear under "External Storage Devices" and will both have a different drive letter, such as L: and M: ).
EDIT: I believe UMS = MSC as well, but I could be wrong... again, I might be using the wrong terms here. No matter what, my car's manual specifically states that my phone would need to be in MSC mode in order to work, so if UMS =/= MSC, then it is MSC that I need and want in ICS.
When I am talking about MTP, then I am meaning that my phone, when plugged into a computer, reads as though it is a single Portable Device (in Windows, a single icon will appear under "Portable Devices" and will look like a cell phone or an MP3 player. When double clicked, you will then see the internal SD card and External SD card as separate drives, both both do not have a drive letter assigned to them.)
Based on my descriptions, I NEED UMS in order to make my phone work in my car.
5) When ATT releases their official ICS, should I install it, a custom ROM, or simply a custom Kernel like Siyah if I want to be able to connect as UMS (see #4's definitions).
Please make comments/answers on each # bullet point.

I'll do my best.
1. Yes that is/was the latest leak from at&t. Samsungs touchwiz UI. All builds are based off AOSP. TW, like Miui, HTC sense, Blur. are all just UI, and overlays. Crap that the companies install on there phones to make them different.
2. Dont buy into everything you read, especially when its from hokey pokey websites. I've never played with TW on 4.0, but have never seen or heard of what was stated in those link's.
3. thats the way I understood it also, but "However the cost is that Android can no longer ever yield up the storage for the host PC to molest directly over USB." taken from the link.
4. your correct on terms. UMS/MSC is what you want. but most just call it UMS.
And yes, most vehicles need UMS, know mine does.
5. Do some research, right now only a couple ROM's that i know of have UMS option. in time, more will come I'm sure.
Honestly, I have no clue, nor do i care what at&t puts in there official build.
Stability, Speed, and good ICS looks, are not gonna come from at&t.
Hope I got everything for ya.
Thanks MotoMudder. I think you cleared thinks up a bit more.
All I know right now is that on the current ATT leak, I can get my phone into UMS by accessing the USB Utilities. Once the official release comes, I guess I will have to update and see if i can still get my phone into UMS the same way, or else I will need to either return to GB or use a custom ROM.
BTW, its offtopic, but if i can get it answered here without starting a new thread, I would appreciate it.
I was using Siyah Kernel and then while talking to someone on the phone, they said they were having difficulty hearing me. So, I hung up, flashed the stock kernel, then called them back and they said they could hear me better.
I was stumped as to why this happened. It was my understanding that kernels shouldn't affect phone calls. Only modems do... right?
Additional info:
-Both calls were taking place in my house.
-The weather outside was extremely windy (I was inside though, but maybe this affected the ATT network somehow?)
-Only the kernels were swapped. Modem stayed the same for both calls.
-While on Siyah Kernel, I had a SETCPU profile for phone calls: Lulzactive governor, min 100, Max 500.
-When on stock kernel, I also had a SETCPU profile for phone calls: Conservative governor, 200 min, 500 Max.
Any ideas as to what could have caused this? Kernel? Processor speed settings? Governor? Weather?
I know its kind of a hard question to answer, but which of the factors that took place affects calls?

Our kernals are weird, mic has to be flipped for AOSP vs Samsung builds. Havent played with siyha much, dont know if there are two different versions for this issue. but a search around that thread should tell ya if it'll be compatible with what your running.
Maybe someone can give a better explanation, but that the gist of it from what i understood.
I installed CM9 alpha 0.03 and the wifi will not stay connected. The routers that worked perfectly with CM7 will not work with CM9, anyone else had/having trouble with wifi when using CM9?
Yes!! I had the same issue when I loaded it last night. went back to cm7 till the 3.0 kernal comes out.
Really, I haven't had this problem at all. Try turning the router. Also what wifi security type is it?

I rebooted the NT a couple times and so far (2 hours) the wifi is working as it should. I have been using this at work on two wireless routers and I'll be trying it at home soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed, I hope the wifi problem was temporary. I'm loving CM9 otherwise.
Edit: The wifi security is WPA2.
One little update on my wifi problem. The wifi was working perfectly at work and at home until I ran an app that needed the sd card mounted (I figured it was mounted at boot but it wasn't) so I removed/replaced the sd card and bam, the wifi stopped working. I repeated this 5 times, same result every time, so I need to find out what is causing this problem.
I'm having the same problem. My wifi drops out when I run certain apps. For me, it's dropped out when running Gmail or any mail app, and BBC World News app so far.
This was not a problem at all until I changed my email passwords. Probably a coincidence but it happened at the exact same time.
I'd just like to give an update to say that this randomly stopped happening as randomly as it started. I've no idea what the cause is.

I am also having a problem. I am running CM9 externally and my wifi was working great until one day it just would not turn on. I tried rebooting it to no avail. Wifi still works in CM7 and stock ROM. Anybody have an idea to fix it? Thanks.
External is susceptible to getting corrupted. I would backup by TiB folder first... then I would just reformat the card ( sdformatter 3.1 ) and re make it. Hey, try Jelly Bean !

My bad. Jelly Bean is not 'external sd card' ready. Those guys are super smart, so maybe, hopefully, it will be soon.

I wonder if Succulent is working on it also ?
HI Everybody,
I installed the AOKP CM10 ROM from this forum and the install went great. Thanks for that. Things were going along well but then it seems to have unmount the SD card. The card is mounted after a fresh reboot but then it is unmounted (and can't be remounted as far as I can tell) when the tablet goes to sleep (screen blank). The odd thing is that Root Explorer won't show the files but it has the correct usage of the card listed. It says the card is empty. If I reboot again, it's there and can be used. If it goes to sleep again the card is unmounted or put into the funky state. It's very odd.
I had CM7 (also from this forum) running on it previously and it did not have this issue. It had the WIFI problem when it when to sleep but the SD card was rock solid.
Any ideas about what I can do? The version of the ROM is cm10-jb-aokp acclaim unofficial 0.01 and I did upgrade CWM to the 6.0.1.5 version before starting the install.
Thanks in advance for the help.

It's very odd.

try moving all ur apps that depend on the sd card to the tablet itself and that should solve your problems...
Thanks, I thought about that. I'm just wondering if it's a problem with CM10 or something else. I think I only have one app that is currently using the SD card. I'll move it and I'm pretty sure my issue will be worked around. Would be nice to have this fixed though. I put movies on the SD card to watch them on plane flights. If it's not really working it makes it hard to do that.
Thanks again.

The SD card unmounting is a known bug in all the CM10 ROMs, and seems to be linked to WiFi waking and sleeping. The most common work-around is to manually turn off WiFi before your tablet goes to sleep. Alternatively, you can use an app like AutomateIt or Tasker to have WiFi turn off when the screen turns off. Since installing AutomateIt and configuring it to turn off WiFi when the screen turns off, I haven't had a problem with the SD card unmounting (on either the AOKP ROM or Demetris' CherryPick ROM).

Thanks for that. However I have some new information. I was waiting to see if this turned out to be stable and it does seem to be working. So on the original work-around to move any apps from the SD card to the internal memory I had only one app, Aldiko reader. The odd thing was that even installing it the first time it wanted to install onto the SD card. There was no way to force the install to the internal storage. Anyway, once I moved the app everything started working. It's been 2 days now that the SD card has stayed mounted. Also, the WIFI has been working great moving between my home network and the work network. So I'm not sure what is going on with the Aldiko reader but it somehow was causing the SD card to unmount when the tablet went to sleep. Very odd.
Thanks for all the help. Everything is working and it's work great! I moved the launcher over to the Nova launcher today as I wanted more home sceens (not that I really needed them just to see if that would work and it does). I couldn't get the default CM10 launcher to do that, at least I couldn't find a configuration option to allow that.

What you saw with Aldiko was intentional on the dev's behalf -- Aldiko is configured to install to external storage if it's available, and to store your library on external storage as well. You need to manually move it to internal storage.
The SD card unmounting bug is not limited to Aldiko, though it would seem that way if Aldiko was the only app you had installed in external storage. If you install anything onto your SD card in the future, you'll continue to see this bug... Many folks here have been able to turn the bug on and off by changing the Wi-Fi settings, which is why the recommended work around is to use AutomateIt to turn Wi-Fi on and off with the Screen.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep all the apps in the internal storage.
You guys have been a big help.
I had the same issues. I installed the codefireX ROM and my SD card and WiFi work great now.
