If he needs a phone for games then just go buy and xperia play...
OT. If he is going to buy and iOS devices then just wait for iPhone 5. it will be a little more like android ( will have that notification bar that you can drag and alot more features like android has )...

He isn't from NAG forums by any chance?
If you took my guess.. NO
iOS = Closed source ****.
Android = Open source bliss.
If your a noobie get a iPhone
If your 1337 get a Droid.

if you want a phone that works outta the box get an iphone.
if you want a phone that offers great versatility and customization, get an android phone.

+1. apple reminds me of clique mums when i do the school run!!
@Omega.. 1337??
@OT tell yr friend to make the decision based on fact
1) apple are amazing, simultaneously sweet and sour
2) Android has more potential due to open source

naa, i'd keep a tweaked 2.1 x10 over IP4 anyday!!
just cos i don't know what 1337 was all about does not make me gullible, perhaps naive!!!
Edit 1: now 1337 is bothering my tiny mind
Edit 2: Ok, got it - thanks Lord T, your elitism lead me to knowledge, I'm no hacker so didn't get the point (although i pat myself on the back as i was already trying to work out what ACCG could mean - wasn't too far wrong, not bad for a nnooobish type - perhaps i'll buy an Iphone now)

Pls Delete

1337 = Leet = Elite

Well, I'm an Android user since more than one year, and I have just bought an iPad 2 for extended computer experience while in mobility. I like Android, but I must admit than iOS offers a different experience that is really excellent. No lags at all, no reason to be worried to crack your software platform to be able to install software to apply performance tweak, all is already optimized for you. Obviously if you like to mod your software Android is much better, but regarding performance, graphics and fluidity in my very personal opinion iOS on iDevices will simply fly! And with Jailbreak no limitations at all xD
but I continue to love Android too, of course

Ios jailbreak = stock android
Rooted android= the is no such ios modification that can come close

If you want an 'idiot's OS', and a device that is made for Steve Jobs, then iOS is the one for you. It just works.
If you want to tinker around and have fun and make the device YOURS, then get Android.

You're throwing around 'open source' as if it means nothing, when...umm...it does?
It's not 'bullcrap' if it is the main attraction of the OS, and works extremely well.

My sister got ipad.
When I use it, I am wondering where is the "back" button?
There is a reason why Windoze Fone 7 also has "back" button.

Once you get an iPad there's no going back

It's like an iReligion.

The only reason ios doesn't lag is because its such a simple yet dumbed down interface. Frankly, my family is split with 2 iPhones, 2 Androids and one Honeycomb tablet. For me, I would get bored of using an iPhone after a week. Changing the order of apps or changing the wallpaper is nothing compared to the customization options in android. Plus, who wants to jailbreak when Android users can root and have complete control?

why not just use them both
if you can have both that's better. I haven't really used an iphone 4 to test it out but all i know is that it has more and better applications than the vibrant.

personally... i would keep the iPhone 4 and sell the Vibrant if you couldnt keep both. android phones tend to depreciate more in resale value compared to the iPhone line. plus iOS does have better games and more higher quality apps. Micro-sim is not a real problem since the original tmobile sim can be cut down to size, or go to the tmobile store and ask to change to a micro-sim. they do have a limited stock of micro-sims.
The Vibrant does most of what the iPhone does and better in most cases. Excellent Samsung Music player/Samsung DAC, excellent Samsung SAMOLED display panel, 3G connectivity, etc. it only makes more sense to keep the Vibrant. I had an iPhone before getting my Vibrant and I don't miss it. The main reason why I hated Android was because of the horrible sound quality and god awful "music player".. Samsung solved that and gave us some other extras to boot with the TouchWiz interface.
It's backing is not glass either, which was just a stupid move on Apple's part.
If you need iTunes, miss iOS only apps not yet ported to Android and / or find Android's user interface too complicated then stick with the iOS of the iPhone 4.
If you can do without iTunes (DoubleTwist with optional AirSync is a good replacement), like having the ability to design every home screen to very specific liking with more than mere icons, the freedom to move files on / off the device without syncing, the removable battery and expandable storage then stick with the Vibrant.

I hate I tunes and apple lines of stuffs...I like their hardwares..iphone4 is a true beauty...and I do realize not be able to drag and drop files will be pain in ass. Plus I don't want another music software on my computer.

I say neither. Get the Nexus S. Of course the vibrant may bust out with 2.3 before we know it but I doubt it will be as good as on the Nexus. The only downside I see to the Nexus S is the lack of expandable memory.

I've been using many phones and have spent my majority of time with an iPhone a.k.a iOS.
But I can surely tell you this - looking at the upcoming devices and growth of Android in comparison to Apps and 3D Games. 2011 is owned by Android and Windows Phone 7. So decide wisely where you want to put your money.
Save your money for Samsung Galaxy S 2 or LG Star.

Keep the Vibrant, sell the iPhone 4. Do you know how much an iPhone 4 is worth off contract? Anywhere from $600-$800.
I just came from an iPhone 4 to a Vibrant. Difference for me was i'm on T-Mobile so i chose the Vibrant to get 3G speeds.
Although android is starting to grow on me, and i really like some of the features of the Vibrant, the iPhone 4 is just a flat out superior phone in terms of speed, quality, and apps. There's really no arguement about any of that.

I resent that statement Flash some of the custom ROMs with a good kernel and then I can assure that Vibrant is way faster than iPhone 4. Android comes with features which a daily cell users needs, i4 unless we jailbreak and again spend $$$ we have access to less than 50% of apps which are freely available on the Android Market.
Don't want to start a i4 vs Android debate here, but just my personal take on the two.
Vibrant. The galaxy s line is amazing. I own a captivate and im soooooo happy. I hate apple and everything it makes. It just sucks. Plus you cant oc or uv the iphone. Your choice but i would say vibrant

[Q] Swapping my iphone4 with SGS2, am i gonna regret?

like the title, i have someone who willing to swap his SGS2 with my iphone4. i lke the SGS2 but i am not sure wether it is worth the swap. if u guys be me, would u do it? i use my device mainly for text, internet and organizer. not really into game. i like the big screen of SGS2 which can make web browsing more enjoyable.
thanks for your opinion. =)
1) You are on XDA Developers, who believe in openness and the freedom to customize your device as you please.
2) You ask whether you will regret the swap from iOS to Android here, especially about a phone that is on demand by most and is Android.
I don't think there is a proper way to answer it, its like asking the Mac forums whether you would regret the switch to Windows.
I would suggest playing with an Android device to see whether you like it. I am switching from an iOS device to the SGS II as well and I dont think I will regret it. Especially now that Android Market place has almost the same apps and this device is a Dual Core 1GB Ram beast.
exactly, you are on the sgs2 section of xda forum....
it really is a personal thing, my suggestion is make the change and have a taste of android OS, if you don't like it, wait for the iphone 5~
A plain swap? Hell yes. Even if you don't like it just sell it for like $750-$800 (convert it to your local currency just in case) when the iPhone 4 is just around $450-$500. You will make more money even if you don't like the phone.
I would love to find someone here in Toronto who is willing to just swap their SGS2 with my iPhone 4...it's going to suck having to cough up an extra $150-200
I personally wouldnt regret the swap of an iphone for a Nokia 2110. So swapping an iphone for an SGS2, youll b fine!
I'm doing the same thing, and I doubt I'll have any regrets whatsoever. I'm gaining money and I'm switching to a better, newer phone.
As above, go for it
Seriously, this phone is likely to be the first true iPhone killer, where it performs better than your iThing... Take a look at video reviews to get a flavour of it Some phrases that sprung to mind included "smoothest android phone yet" etc...
And if you really don't like it, you should be able to resell it at a better price, or indeed find someone who would trade the SGS II for an iP4 again...

lol i love that phrase....'iphone killer'... using that phrase is like saying the iphone is the number one phone and all the other phones being made are clawing at its feet, waiting for it to drop a crumb of food!
I will not submit to the notion that the iphone is in anyway better than my old Nokia 2110!
(This is just my opinion and may not reflect the opinion of millions of other who have made the iphone one of the best selling phones in the world)
Coming from iphone 4 i love this sgs2 more, its not my first android device so i no what to expect and its a pleasure using this its super fast and enjoyable, ill be honest i would of got iphone 5 if that was released, i will still buy ip5 when its out but ill be keeping this beast still, every1 has there own taste but your getting so much more out of this than an ip4,

Neither will I, but I am just conveying what some of the fanbois are saying =D
Engadget are some of the biggest fanbois and they loved it.
One thing I have noticed is, the text display rendering, especially in browser is better on iPhone. The columns resize to readable fonts on double tapping in iOS. Android browser doesn't have such 'sophisticated' column resize etc.

I already swapped my Iphone 4 for a Windows Phone 7 mobile some months ago so...

I prefer Android because ios is at the simplicity level for a 5 year old.
Its like a video game... Iphone is easy mode and android is hardcore mode
Iphone is easy to master fun to jump into and android you read forums and you gotta learn it. But when you master android you become a superuser and can honestly keep that new phone feel daily. My nexus felt new for a year and a half. My 3gs felt new for 3 months... My atrix feels like I'm in the future.

The only thing I liked about iphone is that it got me to get into jail breaking.. Once that happened it was android destiny.

Honestly I like the iphone- its aesthetically appealing in design and media, but the Atrix is a powerhouse in comparison. Comparable in graphics, the Atrix gives you more screen without being overly big like some other android phones such as the infuse.
It all comes down to the user. Are you a mac or pc guy? Its really that simple. If you're a pc guy, you wont regret the Atrix. I love it.

I have both phones...I got the iPhone 4 and the Atrix on both of their respective release dates. Let's break it down:
Obviously, both iOS and Android have their proven advantages. Jailbroken iOS vs. rooted Atrix...it's a close call. One of the things I really love about iOS is the universality- in respects of apps and common accessories. It's always really convenient knowing where ever you go, someone is going to have an iPhone/iPod charger. And, one of the things I really love about Android is the open source feel and really just the amount of customization possible. Even with a jailbroken iPhone, Android is just simply more customizable. Software is a near tie, but I've got to give it to iOS because it really is just easier to do simple tasks quickly.
Hardware wise, both devices are pretty impressive. Since Apple is realeasing 1 device a year and Motorola is releasing approximately ~10, the build quality is going to be better on an iPhone. Really think about it- all the Android manufacturers are just getting as many phones as they can get out possible. The only device I feel is just completely solid all around, in every aspect, is the Nexus One/Nexus S, but obviously that's because Google itself has every say in every detail of the device. That being said, the build quality on the Atrix is still really good. If it didn't have such a horrible back/battery cover, it would be pretty even with the solid feeling you get when holding an iPhone. It'd also be nice to have some aluminum on the Atrix to make it feel a little more sturdy, and a better placement of the lock button would be nice since you can't unlock the device laying flat. But, the Atrix has 2 hardware advantages- screen size and overall reception. I consistently drop less calls and get better reception indoors with my Atrix than my iPhone. No surprise really, but it's the truth. And playing the games that are available on the Atrix are simply more entertaining because of the larger screen. I've got to give the hardware award to the iPhone too, but this is also a close call.
Of course, this is all my opinion, and even though I rotate which device I use almost daily, I do tend to pick my iPhone more often than not. I think both iOS and Android are amazing OS's, and Android really is a fun platform that's more capable out of the box, but the one and only thing that truly keeps me from using my Atrix as much as my iPhone 4 is the lack of apps. I'm a student, which means I use lots of apps/games on a daily basis, and the inability to have the same app as someone around while using my Atrix really is what keeps me from using it more. Aside from customization apps/Swype, I haven't once seen an app on Android that I wished iOS had. Any great app Android has is available on iOS (aside from the stock applications). But really, accounting for all of these things, it's what feels right for you. When people ask me which platform to get since I do have both, I say for 90% of people, iPhone's are the obvious choice, because most people that ask me that question obviously aren't tech savvy. But, that 10% does exist for tech savvy and power users. Asking myself and yourself that question is obviously much more difficult because we are both tech savvy and power users, otherwise you wouldn't be on XDA. There isn't a clear choice, but for me, if I had 1 choice I'd choose my iPhone and I wouldn't hesitate. Ask yourself that question, which one could you not live without? There's your answer.
I use my iphone 4 more often because I love the retina display and the games are way better. Android is slowly dieing, too many phones are using android os and its killing itself from the market I'm very lucky I traded my atrix for an ipad 64gb and 200 bucks so no more android for me. Android Facebook app needs alot of work . It comes down too if u want to keep flashing shiity roms. Choose android or if u want a phone that works pick up a iPhone 4.

I hardly think Android is dying (or dieing as you called it). It is growing faster than anticipated and predicted.
Nothing wrong with an Apple product and I own and love my Macbook. I played with the iPhone and never wanted one.
My reply to the OP is if you want a phone that does most everything that an iPhone does and yet be able to make phone calls and not drop connection, then for sure go with the Atrix.

I agree but My iphone gets the same reception as the Atrix. Seems like a few Android apps do need a little more brushing up(facebook, scorecenter for example).
Iphone apps? LoL don't make me laugh.. You don't have emulators... Flash..
Do they even have the new maps? I think the best iphone apps I had were google apps... **** if you liked tinkering with iphone it was a clear step to android.

[IPHONE 4S] Would you change your Galaxy S2 for it?

Just like the title says..
Would you swap your gorgeous looking S2 for Apple's latest innovating(coughs) release?
Dual core and all and better camera specs and more goodies under the hood than the iphone 4 is this good enough to make you swap and go to the dark side?
Feel free to comment
No way

No. Next question.
I would rather walk straight across the Serengeti with a 10 inch thick suit made from only meat and running directly into a pride of lions than buying an iPhone

Well trust me down the line someone is gonna ask that question so might as well get this thread open and let people come in and say what they feel about it... but come on A5 chip does sound quite powerful..

Seems like its APPLE whose doing the catch up now...
SGS2 has already all the features that the Iphone4s has.. no wonder Apple is running crazy trying to ban the SGS2..
It all makes Sense,
But I guess it won't stop Brainwashed Iphone fans to still QUE for it at midnight which makes them the HIGH I guess.
I just caught up with the new features being touted for the 4S and my only reaction was that most (hardware AND os) are being enjoyed by people on other phones already and in some cases for months. HSDPA? 3K pictures? 1080p video? Voice recognition and speech? Yep, been there and doing those.
The only good things about iPhones these days is that they make other manufacturers push their products on a little bit harder.

Never, ever, ever again will I buy/own/use an Apple product - period (I don't buy products from ahole patent trolls)

i was gonna ask why you hate on apple but you did answer already
if we could have some of the exclusivity of apps that apple has i tell you what this phone would be even better than it already is....
i have owned iphone since 3g until iphone 4 and what can i say ITS BORING! im tired and sick of the same homescreen and design of the iphone. i dont think iphone 4 s or even the ip5 can match the sgs2.

Developers do make some excellent games for the iOS platform. I'll admit, I've logged some serious time on Infinity Blade using my wife's iphone. Right now though, there is no finer device on the market than the SGS2. I would never trade the openess of Android for a locked down iPhone. Only device I'll consider changing to is the Nexus Prime.

Why are I phones so popular?

There ****ing ****e!

they may not have the best hardware.......but to be simple
the Simplicity of the I-phone is unmatched and there for super EASY to use.
my family are i-phone users, when i hand them my phone......they have problems even navigating the pages and widgets. the I-Phone is a Toy refference could not be anymore true, there just simple devices for simple people ( not calling people simpletons ) just saying.
I couldnt agree more. For people who want a Easy to use phone that is not too ****.
Apple are just not for the most clever people. There very unsociable. I mean no sdcard? U have to buy a new phone to get more memory. No flash player? Glad I've never had one. Good for casual users of jus texting and facebook. What's the iphone's capabilities when jail broken?

Mostly status related, it looks premium and it feels premium and it `s expensive. The hardware though isn`t premium (anymore).

As said, simplicity is the key to success for apple. They LIVE the KISS principle of engineering (keep it simple, Sidney)
However simplicity has the drawback of not allowing you to customize your phone or do anything that the designers didn't include.
Apple: You don't like their keyboard? Too bad....
Android: You don't like their keyboard? Well go to the freakin' Play Store and pick the one you prefer
However....
Android: A new version has been released? Too bad, buy a new device which comes with it. No official upgrade
Appe: You still have that old 3GS? No problem, here's the update.
(I'm not including CM9/AOSP/AOKP/... since most people are still running stock)

Anyone running stock GB or now even ICS may as well have a iPhone. Jb is just awesome! Well the preview anyway..
Are iOS updates even significantly updated. I mean.. my missus has a 4s. I update for her and don't seem to change much.. although I very rarely use it. And she very rarely pays attention hah

Gingerbread is a halfway decent Rom, so lower-powered devices can use it without problems.
The issue is that a lot of devices (newer than the iPhone 3GS!) are around and still running on Android 1.5 or 1.6
Even if they got updated to 2.1 it still sucks...
The manufacturers simply have no incentive to upgrade their devices since they don't control the Play Store as Apple does with the Market.
So can we expect only one or two updates per model? Excluding Google handsets?
Sent from my GT-I9300
Because IOS is simple and people pay extra to be lazy, and owning an Apple product is kinda like owning a supercar because you like to show people that you got money to burn.
what apple do is design some fantastic products and get there brand up there with the likes of prada and ferrar, making it desirable to own....
then they control everything you do with there devices...my son has a ipad looks fantastic and made to the best standards but apple own there product not the person who bought it...i would never buy a apple product...

I used to have the iPhone and only recently switched to the GS3 as my first ever android device :good:
The iphones capabilities when jailbroken are not too bad, but nowhere near as good as what a stock android can do. Only downside is that you have to jailbreak first, which means waiting for the dev teams to exploit the firmware and release a packaged tool for each new firmware update.

Samsung releases 2 upgrades if the next firmware is around the corner when the device is released (as was the case with the S1 and now the S3)
Otherwise you're stuck with 1 upgrade.
Of course that's only the official ROM's. Many people here don't stick around very long on Original ROM's unless it's for warranty claims.
The S1 -despite claims by Samsung that it's hardware is not powerful enough- has an excellent flawless CM9 support and has the first Preview-version of Jellybean released. That will give it inofficial upgrades from the original 2.1 (Eclair) it shipped with over 2.2 (Froyo), 2.3 (Gingerbread), 4.0 (ICS) up to 4.1 (Jelly bean) and possibly counting.
And guess what... despite manufacturer's claims that Wifi Direct needed special hardware the S1 got it too in a CM9 update.
There's also a very functional inofficial CM9-build for low-powered devices such as Galaxy Ace, Gio, Mini, ... which only feature 256MB Ram. And that despite claims by (some) hardware manufacturers that ICS would under no conditions be able to run on anything below 1GB Ram.
In other words; you're stuck with old releases only if you don't know about Cyanogenmod or simply don't care.
(Of course there are other builds such as "real" AOSP, the AOKP, ... but CM9 gives the most bang for your device with all the nifty features they added.

Don't get me wrong I love android but the iPhone built quality is top, my son has the iPhone 4 never a problem with lag, screen issues, camera, it's very smooth, now the other hand,I like to custom my phone that's why I think android is top, but a lot of people don't care about that and that's why people choose the iPhone, and the reason I'm saying quality is every android phone I ever had after 4 months I had to send it in for some kind of problems every iPhone user that I know I just know 10 never compliant, except for battery life, but do far my gs3 is holding out great!I have had no problems at all

My personal opinion is that, while both Iphones and Droids are perfectly able to be used straight out of the box, Iphones require the least setting up out of the two. If users who have/had Iphones wanted to set up their phones exactly how they want it, android provides more room to do so.
Simply put, if you just want a phone that is "Good" and requires little to no setup, Iphone is for you. If you like the thought of almost fully customizing your experience on your handset, then android is for you.

I agree that the iphone looks and feels very smooth, but you have to remember that there is only one hardware set for the iphone(insert model here) and that their OS is built and tuned towards that hardware alone, whereas there are how many different android devices with different hardware specs currently running stock ICS out of the box?
A simple way to look at it is this. Look at how many cases there are for the Iphone, and then look at how many there are for a specific android device.
