The USB port on my phone seems like its starting to break. The black thing inside the port seemed to be off of the wire things and tilted at an angle.. i inserted the usb cord into the port and pushed it back into place but i got a feeling it will be breaking off soon....
Is this covered by the warranty?
also, just to note... i bought the phone on craigs list a while ago... not sure if that affects anything ;o
I believe that would be on warranty but don't tell the VZW guys you bought it on craigslist Just say you just bought the phone and the port seems loose some times and see if they will give you a new one. Worth a shot either way.

mmm I wonder if Apple is already preparing another lawsuit against Samsung. After all they came first with their exploding iPhones!!
The link is broken but we all already know the article...
I'm 99% sure that this isn't samsung's fault but instead the user's. Also, the HTC One X has done this before.
See, all the of the damage was near the usb port. If a cheap charging cable shorts, this can happen easily. I know it said he never had USB plugged in, but he wouldn't get a refund if he said he was using a cheap charging cable so he probably lied. Also, why would the USB port randomly blow up and not the battery? It would be impossible for the USB port to blow up without a shorted/malfunctional charging cable inserted.
Maybe he really did have no charging cable in, if that's the case, it's a manufacturing defect.
If you're making hundreds of thousands of phones, you can expect one or two to be defective like that. And since this has happened with almost every phone (even our 3D's), you can't bash one manufacturer for it.

I'm much more inclined to believe this. The damage is too concentrated and nowhere near where I'd expect it to be if it was actually a heat problem. I'm glad Samsung rushed to shut him up to prevent any sort of media backlash, but I really, really don't believe that he had nothing to do with what happened.
Maybe not intentionally, at least.
No matter who the manufacturer is I could just imagine the shock of seeing an article like this and the mad rush of trying to cover it up or quickly put a different spin on the whole event especially this early in a release. I'm sure there is a whole lot of finger pointing going on. I know it's only one phone but if we see some more....
If he had it in an in-car holster (as stated) im pretty sure he had it plugged into the charger (using nav or something) so it prolly was a faulty charger. A USB port doesn't explode without anything plugged into it. Only the battery can explode which obviously that's not the case. My question is why would u spend money on the lastest phone and then shortchange urself buying a cheap Chinese car charger?
Alright, so not too long ago i tripped on my USB cord while my phone was charging and it took out the little plastic piece inside the micro usb port that holds all the wires in place. I bent them back into place, and can still charge my phone, but sometimes it hard resets when being plugged in/ getting unplugged.
I took it to the sprint store, they said physical damage and I would have to submit a claim with a 150 deductable. Well, i know a micro usb port doesnt cost 150 so i orderd "HTC micro USB" jacks off of ebay with the intent of replacing it myself. unfortunately the ones i got were not the same; wrong size and shape, etc...
my question is, does anyone know where i can get the right usb jack, is it even available or do i have to bite the bullet and pay the 150? or maybe someone has an idea i havent thought of yet?
Just bite the bullet and pay the $150. You know it will be done right (you get a replacement phone) and it will still be under warranty. You damage it replacing it yourself, you might not be able to file a claim later.
Have you already looked at this website?

I would not recommend attempting to replace the USB jack unless you are skilled with a soldering iron. The surface mount components are not for the faint of heart. If you don't know what you are doing, you risk damaging the phone evern more.
I have a issue where when i plug my charger in it doesnt do anything.. but if I bend the charger down it works fine. Do i need to bend the pin in the phone up with tweezers?
I read around where If you have this issue with the charging port then its gone. But my phone still charges fine. I dont want to go poking and bending and break something and it doesnt charge at all.
Just a little advice.
I have the rogers galaxy note I727r
Try a different cable first. They wear out and loosen quicker than the port. Do not go poking and bending or you will be replacing the usb component on the phone for sure.

i tried 5 different cables and one of which is the official samsung cable... no dice.
It sounds as if you need a charge port repair .....but
Before the device goes out .....try this ....
With a very small and flat object .....you can slightly bend the outer edge of the charge port on the side that does not contain the joining seam, or break in the port ...
The slight bend will tighten the cable tip, as it slides into the port, and create a better contact patch...
But be careful !!!......as you can damage the port if you get too aggressive ....
The bend occurs on the long flat side of the device port ...opposite the port seam ....g
P.S.....Proceed at your own risk ....but it worked perfect for me ...g
Just remember, your phone is under warranty. Might just be better to let them take care of it. But if you get brave here is the part:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Chargin...998?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d4f7ccbe
Not that difficult to get to either. There are a few videos on youtube for disassembly instructions.

i boughtit as a used phone.. is there a picture that you can show the outer edge?
If you contact Samsung instead of ATT your warranty should be honored still. But it would be cheaper to buy the board and fix it yourself then to pay for shipping to a samsung repair center unless you have one nearby. I have no better pictures of the usb port.
Nor do I .....
If you hold the phone while looking into the charge port ...( screen up )....
The part you slightly bend is the bottom of the charge port ...
Don't pry against the case ....just slightly bend the bottom portion up .....with a small tipped object ..
A dull knife tip works well .....g
Yeah.. two mornings ago, I woke up to a phone in it's dying throes of battery life.. having been on the charger all night.
It's been a little touchy with certain cords for the past month or so but now, it doesn't matter which of the many available charger cords I have, from brand new to the original - none of them make the phone thing to charge or connect it via USB to a computer.
It's dead Jim.
yup face-palm he had his s3 in back pocket riding bicycle drunk home, fell off bike right on backside, phone taking most the impact.
the screen doesnt seem to be cracked just a small chip on the edge near camera.
he had it in a double sided leather padded case so we dunno how it got chipped
very small crack on body above usb port, but i think that crack is common.
the main point being the phone will now not switch on, is not charging or accessible via usb. no led nothing. button combo's do nothing. battery change no help
do you guys reckon it'll b worth replacing the usb port? or just a spares repo?
you can't replace the usb port unless you buy a motherboard, desolder one from there and solder it on your old one, which obviously doesn't make sense and won't work anyway, because the phone is clearly broken. The phone would switch on if the port was broken if there was any charge in the battery

well you can just buy the usb ports from part stores.
and yup i made another face-palm, its not the usb as a fully charged battery wont power it lol
im just gonna assume when he landed on it he just bent the motherboard and crushed something/many parts lol.
kinda strange he damaged the internal parts but not the screen.
he bought it like 6months ago so i doubt samsung or t-mobile will help eh.
oh well, what divv rides a bike with an s3 in theyre back pocket?
Okay so I made (tried to make) a USB OTG cable by taking the metal off the outside of the USB connector, then cutting and reconnecting the cable with red on black and green on white so it would be the same polarity as a female USB. i plugged a flash drive up and nothing happened.
Here is where my retarded moment comes in: I HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER WITH THE POLARITY REVERSED!!!!
Now it wont even boot up. :crying:
I have a HTC One (AT&T).
PLEASE HELP!!!
I also don't want to send it back because this will be the third phone in 3 months (1st: xperia tl soft bricked returned 2nd: xperia tl hard bricked returned 3rd: i hope it will still work, but i need your help). . i will take ANYTHING except for taking it apart (that's why there is geek squad but that costs money and I'm broke).
if i need to go into more detail i will but please tell me or else i wont know.
wires:
red----------black
white----------green
black----------red
green----------white
i think it blew a fuse, but if so how would i fix it? does it even have a fuse?:crying:
Oh dear! You've lived up to your name anyway. The phone is frazzled!
Next time get a schematic of the cable wiring or buy a cable. It'll be cheaper in the end.
Your phone shop should replace the phone though - just don't tell them your story

that is not what i wanted to hear but thank you anyways. :crying: :crying:
maybe since it wont boot up at&t wont have any way to know about the unlocked bootloader and cyanogenmod (they let me get a new phone for free even after rooting and bricking both my xperia tl's. All i had to do was say that the update broke itor the battery wouldn't hold any charge.) But I JUST got it two or three days ago so I feel very crappy now.
at least i have google voice on my computer and kindle fire.
WHY DIDN'T I WATCH THE STUPID VIDEO!!!! the answer is i am a freaking idiot.
When you say "phone shop", does best buy fit in that category? or is there any possible way to fix it from home?
