Hi,
just some days ago I finally decided to install the SDE and UrukDroid and today I wanted to see whether I could get my DVB-T-Stick to work.
I quickly found out, that my 101 doesn't recognize any USB-Device anymore and that this seems to be a common fault of the 101.
After some troubleshooting, Archos usually seems to ask you to send in your device for repair.
Now that I officially voided my warranty with the SDE and watermarked my device:
How are the chances that they don't check that, if I send my device in? Anyone already made experience with it?
What else, except from uninstalling the SDE, can I do to send it in 'as clean as possible'?
Thanks in advance!
for hardware failure, don't worry about SDE, they will replace for u. Many members here and ArchosFan forum did it before. I exchanged once myself due to spoil speakers with SDE on.
For precaution, just uninstall SDE and reinstall Archos firmware before send.
Yeah, for hardware defects, don't worry about it. I just got my A70 back from Archos because it had a cosmetic defect. I had SDE installed, but it wasn't a problem. I just wiped my data and installed the newest firmware clean before I sent it in.
Yep, chulri have send his 101 to archos too i think because of his toasted usb port..
they repair it, and he have the sde installed
Archos do good repair/replacements but on the normal support via mail they should work
Thank you for your answers!
So I quess there won't be any problems.

Sooooooo people, contact ASUS Support about your device tracker not working! They will give you support on that, and because it has the same problem causing it, it will fix the unlock issue!

Hi all, I decided to finally take the dive a couple days ago to unlock my beloved prime and try out androwook and other custom roms that supposedly put stock to shame. However, I was unfortunately confronted by a crude and nasty message along the lines of:
Code:
An unknown error occurs, which may be a network connection issue.
Please wait and try again later
As usual, I unrooted, rebooted, and tried again. No luck.
I disabled and uninstalled ATP Tweak (sio scheduler/systune), replaced my modified dock keyboard files (browser mod, switched alt/search buttons), and tried again. No luck.
Factory reset from the settings menu. No luck.
Placed the .28 US update on my SD card, rebooted, and re-flashed the update. No luck.
Where does that leave me now? Locked and feeling imprisoned. I'm wondering if it is worth it to downgrade and try unlocking. So far, I have only seen one person have any success with this. Due to the potential brick risk, I want to stay away from this unless I know it will work. I also know that Asus asked for the MAC address of a prime owner with this issue, but that didn't go anywhere.
This seems like it may be an issue that is experienced by anyone that RMA'ed their tablet for whatever reason. I, personally, sent mine in for a green camera issue and mura, but do not think that they changed my motherboard.
I am also curious to see how many other people are having this issue. If it is sizable, I am willing to start a petition to Asus for them to support their unlock tool and fix this stupid error without an RMA. To that effect, please answer the poll above to let me gather some data on the unlock tool.
Thanks to everyone for your help and support that makes xda such an amazing community!
PS I don't want to see any "Asus sucks" posts. There are tons of other threads for that so please spare us
Additional info:
Have tried this on several different network connections.
Have not yet contacted Asus to see if they have my prime listed as "unlocked" already, but will do so sometime this week.
Logcat of running unlock tool results in this:
Code:
D/KeyBoxService(10158): === StatusCode: SC_UNAUTHORIZED!
D/KeyBoxService(10158): === OTA BEGIN
E/KeyBoxService(10158): === Connection to http://wvdrm.asus.com refused
D/KeyBoxService(10158): === Retry after 600 seconds.
D/KeyBoxService(10158): === OTA END
July 13th Update:
I have contacted Asus with this information. I learned something interesting. Asus has my tablet (s/n) listed as LOCKED. They also did not replace my mainboard when I RMA'ed the tablet. I also have not had the unknown serial number issue. Considering those were the 3 criteria a few of us had considered to be the reasons for not being able to unlock, I am now baffled.
I am going to continue communicating with Asus and hopefully push the matter a little bit more so that something happens. As I was told, "HQ is probably aware and working towards a fix". Let's hope that happens sooner rather than later.
September 5th update:
Seems that Asus HQ figured out a fix, but it requires an RMA. We'll find out soon if it actually works...
September 29th update:
Some of the members in this thread have sent their primes in for an RMA to fix the issue. The first prime back STILL has the problem. Asus HQ is looking into the matter...again...
Asus wants me to resend my tablet back to RMA to see if they can fix the problem. I'll see what they have to say, don't really want to RMA back. It's a software issue it seems to me, changing any hardware will just make it worse.
edit: Email was no help. Dumb. Stuck again! Yay

I found a tool for downgrading that worked pretty well, and when combined with Sparkys tool that will root you so easily on .28, the process of downgrading might be worth a try once you've done everything else.
I'm anxious to hear if anyone who's never rooted and has a serial number has ever had this problem.
I thought my tablet hadn't been unlocked correctly because of some issues and some of the people helping me troubleshoot and figure out the prime when I first got it told me to try running the unlock tool again and said i should get a response, but I always got the same network error. However I bought my prime second hand and it had been rooted before. Finally ended up doing some manual tests with ADB to determine if my problem was unlock related and it wasn't.
I had just gotten the prime, and people said even being unlocked I still shouldn't have gotten that network error. I just gave up after that, and have always wondered if it was related to it being previously rooted.
I can't unlock my tablet. I just don't get any error message at all. But I am 100% sure it's not unlocked.
No Problems here
I have a rooted 0.28, I did not root until after I got the 0.28 update.
I just ran the unlock tool downloaded from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510737
I had to use the dropbox downlown because the one from ASUS would not work.
Unlocked, no issues. No factor reset necessary, no removing root. Now i'm completely unlocked and ruined my warranty just for you guys.
Now i'm going to go install a custom rom.
Later.
Unlocking by a dummy
I unlocked a couple of weeks ago but it wasn't easy. Why? because I am half dumb and need reading glasses. It took me part of 2 days to figure out what was going on. I would get to the final scare screen that warns you that if you do this you are screwed forever and then I could not go any further. There were no buttons to click or agreement check boxes to check just the sad warning big as life.
Then I watched a video, the one with the hyper dude with braces unlocking his prime. And I realized I was missing the buttons on that warning screen. It occurred to met that I had amped up my font size so I could read my tablet without my reading glasses. This action made the font from the warning too big to fit the button on the screen. Went into settings, decreased font size, unlocked, never better.

have you tried getting a logcat of your prime while you're running the unlock tool? it's REALLY easy if you have adb setup. if not, you can do it from a terminal emulator app. PM me if you need more help.

No, never had to RMA. My device is from the US and I'm in Poland so I'm not sure if an RMA would work anyway. I've had it for a month and besides the left screen tearing issue, it works great!
I'm going to install Wooki first and see how that goes. TWRP is already installed and backup has been created. I'll report back if this fixes things. I'm going to try without doing a full wipe (cache and dalvik only). I don't really want to re-install everything.

From past experience, you should always do a full wipe especially if you want your prime to be performing well. Do a titanium backup of all your apps (the pro version is WELL worth the money) and you'll be up and running with an hour exactly how you were before. Good luck!

Yes, my experience with the HTC Desire tells me a full wipe is probably necessary, however I don't like titanium backup. It takes too long and it's easier just letting everything trickle in over the market. I've also found that, unless you're moving from 2.3 to 4.0.x clearing dalvik and cache usually works just as well. It's not like any rom formats the internal memory to use a different setup with better performance...though maybe that's not a bad idea.
BTW, when I said the one from ASUS wouldn't work, I meant it would not download. It just looping on my tablet to which browser it should use, and I eventually gave up and tried the other link.
Got my prime back from asus RMA no more chance to unlock. My prime was unlocked before send to RMA.
They changed the board or chip, when I did the RMA the .28 update JUST came out so I tried applying it before I sent it off. Worked, so it was updated. Then they sent it back after RMA and it was a March update, way back. Don't think they downgraded, but they did change something. Then no unlock at all (though I never tried beforehand, I imagine it would have worked)
Hi,
I don't have the same error message than you, it only say:

I had .28 rooted and was able to do the unlock no problem. I had to download the app from a dropbox account as I was unable to download from ASUS's website.
The issue seems to be related to RMAs. I bought mine 2nd hand from a guy who got it from his boss, so theres no way of knowing if it was ever returned. It doesnt seem to matter on which firmware you are or if you are rooted or not.... All we (probably) have in common is the RMA factor. At least thats progress!
Hey guys, I own a TF201, and after bugging around with recovery blindly for a while I ended up bricking my device. When booting up, I receive an "unrecoverable bootloader error" message. But that's not the question I have.
I sent my device in for warranty repair (not to ASUS yet, just the store I bought it from) and they sent a reply with two things:
1) If it is a motherboard issue, the board will have to be replaced. This will cost me a lot of money, and even if I refuse, I have to pay for s&h back.
2) If it is an "nvflash" issue, the repair will be covered free of charge under warranty.
Now, the thing is, when I plug in my device with volup, my PC recognizes an APX interface. Could this possibly mean the motherboard is fine? I don't have any nvflash.blob's to actually access APX with, but I hope that this means ASUS could fix it under warrany.
Should I send it in?
Thanks!
If you're unlocked then honestly Asus is going to either charge you or if you don't wanna pay then they'll just tell you their not doing anything. Go to the development forum for this device and check out the unbrick thread and see if any info there can help you recover this without sending it in.

Thanks for replying. In their response to me with the two clauses, they informed me that they knew I was trying to unlock. As long as it's fixable with nvflash, they said they would fix it. I already tried the unbricking thread to no avail.

Well then your only option is to send it in. Hope it works out free of charge for you. TF201 with a custom rom/kernel is a beast (I've outscored the HTC One X on Quadrant benchmark).
So I sent my Atrix for repair as I couldn't stand the random reboots. It came back unfixed. I sent it again, this time warning Motorola that I wouldn't be ok with it coming back unfixed again and so it got back finally fixed.
However, the phone doesn't recognize the multimedia dock anymore ! Media center through HDMI works fine but not the dock : the phone doesn't charge nor does the audio work through the speaks I plug the dock to.
Do you think this is a software issue or an hardware one, something they messed up while repairing it.
If I have to send it one more time, I'll go nuts...
Thanks !

I'd guess that those things worked when it left, but not when it came back, that it would be a hardware issue if the software was unchanged. Just a thought though, do you have any mods installed or are you running a pure stock ROM?
Maybe they've noticed CM7 is better than their stock and they flashed CM7. :highfive:

In that case I would say it's very likely that they broke something else. Their Facebook staff may be able to put you in touch with someone who can help as well as they seem to have access to people that the CSR's don't, or they may just delete your post. Motorola's Facebook did have a large number of complaints regarding issues with repairs a couple months ago, but they suddenly disappeared, most likely due to trying to do damage control (reputation management). There's also their forums, where the discussion of anything other than stock functionality is pretty much taboo. But yes, if it worked before, it should work now.

Was it sent in on warranty or did you pay to have it fixed. Either way I feel for you because I know I sent my 2 atrixes in total of 3 times and even though they were fixed/replaced under warranty I still paid about $45 shipping in the end. Everyone on atrix forums keeps praising motorola build quality but I have failed to see it in mine or my wife's atrixes.

I think we're starting to see quite a few cases of storage related failures. I am a bit perplexed as what some consider to be qualifying characteristics of "build quality" myself.

I myself see having to send them in on hardware issues within the 1st year as poor build quality. A new replacement they sent me froze on GPS then would not boot past moto screen as if it bricked itself. Was replaced with another new one after another 15$ I paid for shipping
I think some think USA company means quality. My new atrixes shipped from Mexico
Yeah, I'll have to pay to send it back again as well...

No, because it's likely that they would use that in order to blame you for whatever is wrong with the device. If it's a hardware issue, no amount of third party software is going to fix it. I would however try to get in contact higher up in the chain of command regarding the issue. It's one thing to ship a device with a defect, it's another thing to have to ship the same device back and forth continuously to get it fixed. And the sad part is that this is just one of many similar stories regarding repairs. I guess that "New Motorola" just isn't quite so new after all.

Yes but sometimes people don't realize there is more than one way to do a factory reset on stock. Until about a year ago I thought you could only do this through settings. Recovery is the best way I now know
A good tutorial for that ?
'Cause that's what I meant when I asked if flashing a custom ROM would help : can it be something that isn't properly setup at a software level ? I tried flashing the stcok rom again with RSDLite but it didn't delete any data so I'm not sure it really reset anything.
Thanks !

You mean a guide to factory reset the device in recovery? I thought that was in the manual, but it isn't, although I did find it here.
So I did a factory reset from Recovery, which worked as all was wiped. However, still no luck with the dock.
The reason I asked if trying to install a custom rom was a good idea is because I'm wondering if flashing another Webtop version or the HDMI-hack could make it work. To be clear : do you think that the fact that the Factory Reset didn't work establishes that it's hardware issue ?

As you're able to attach the HDMI and this works are you sure it's not the dock that's faulty? Had a quick look around and came across this... http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/mo...my-hd-multimedia-dock-useless-without-tv.html also, have you tried to clean ect connectors/ports. Might be worth a try
I should try again but I have two docks and the other one doesn't work either. However, I do feel that the AC connector doesn't feel really stable when inside the dock..it just moves around. I'd have to try with the the other's dock AC cable but it's an UK one and I need an adapter.
The thing is that the dock wasn't touched while the phone was under repair so I don't see how it can break just like that.
As I stated before, connection through HDMI to a TV-set works fine as well as charging with the power cord.
EDIT : saw the link you shared and it feels like the exact same issue indeed !
Well, it's fixed...kinda.
I unlocked it and flashed the "fixed webtop addon" from CSROM. It still wasn't working but with it, I got that the message saying that the device was not in charge anymore when I disconnected from the dock, which it didn't before; it wasn't charging however.
I don't think that was relevant but then I decided to give a look at the dock again and removed the top of it and...tadaaa, it worked ! From what I understand, the dock's connectors were not entering the the phone's inputs enough. I still think it's because they ****ed up during repair but heck, I won't send it back for that...
Good to hear you got it working
Hello guys,
I have (had) a transformer prime with stock android 4.1.
I tried to flash my Prime with Goomanager and TWRP.
I found out that I had to install twrp manually to do this. (it was disabled by goomanager for the prime)
So I rooted my tablet with motor chopper, unlocked my bootloader with the asus apk and followed these instructions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-KLPDu2sos
They looked pretty straight forward, so I thought I'd give it a try.
I downloaded the file and relocated it to /twrp.blob and typed "reboot".
After rebooting I used goomanagers "Restore Recovery" button and after that it wouldn't boot.
It always freezes at the boot screen. (the one with the asus Logo in the center and Nvidia logo in the right bottom corner)
It also says "The device is unlocked." in the left upper corner.
I didn't know that I would need ADB (i didn't even know at that time, what that was) or fastboot on my laptop. Maybe this is my problem.
I tried the follwing things:
- press power and lower volume:
the tablets just turns off and on to this same splash screen
- I thought about trying option 1 from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514088), but I had to install adb and fastboot, but when I type "adb devices" in the console, it says "list of devices attached", but there aren't any.
(my tablet is connected and is turned on [at least to this splash screen])
I hope you guys can help me and I didn't brick my tablet completely.
thanks
Simon
Same exact thing happened to me. Tried to reboot into recovery and now I can't get past the splash screen. No option for fastboot and adb does not show my device. I had to send mine in to Asus and that was three weeks ago. They have informed me that there will be a charge (have not said how much yet) but other than that no response from them. The issue we are having is a hard brick and unless you backed your prime up with nvflash? tool before upgrading to Jeallybean there is no way to recover it.
Hi @slatonyam,
thank you very much for your answer.
Could you please be so kind to tell me what it cost to repair it, after you got it back?
I just want to make sure it is worth the trouble and money.
Isn't there another way by using a micro sd with a build or similar?
best regards

Simon after three weeks of sitting on my tablet and numerous phone calls and emails from me, Asus finally got back to me with a quote. I believe the only reason they got back to me is because I told them to ship my tablet back to me and forget the repairs. This is the quote they gave me:
$213 for the motherboard
$65 for labor
I had already told them to ship my tablet back to me so I wasn't interested in getting it repaired and the cost is too much. I only paid $249 for the tablet through New Egg. So I think I just might buy a motherboard off ebay and try to repair it myself, I figure I have nothing to lose.

Hi @slatonyam,
thank you very much for your answer.
Could you please be so kind to tell me what it cost to repair it, after you got it back?
I just want to make sure it is worth the trouble and money.
Isn't there another way by using a micro sd with a build or similar?
best regards

Update after 3 days or so waiting for them to ship my tablet. I received a email Tuesday stating that they were finally shipping my tablet back. But under the serial number I noticed that the device they are sending begins with CA whereas the one I sent in begins with a C1. Maybe they replaced my tablet after all. Will let everyone know when I receive it Tuesday.
Hi @slatonyam
I did sent my Transformer to Asus exactly 7 days ago and just got it back.
(had to send it to Asus Czeck, because I live in Austria - but it was pretty fast)
it is working again (got the same device) and it seems like they repaired it on warranty, because they didn't sent me a payment information or anything.
just got a working device back today.
I'm happy and I wish you good luck with your device.
best regards
Thanks for your kind words but I received the tablet back today and it was not repaired. But so happy that you received a repair for yours. I guess I will just lean on my Nook HD+ for now until a solution is released.
Looks like I have to return my Z2 tablet. Everything was fine for two weeks but now not only has the vibrate function stopped working, but I am getting randomly redirected to the Google Play store every few minutes to a page for some game or dating site. I realised that I may have downloaded an app that caused this, so I did a factory reset but it still happens.
Anyone know why the problem would still be there after a hard reset? Is it possible that whatever bit of adware is redirecting me has put something on the tablet that can't be got rid of? Or has it corrupted my Google account so I will take the problem wherever I go now?
I am not rooted (nor do I wish to be).
Really fed up because apart from these two issues, I really loved the tablet
Try clean installing the firmware with Sony Update Service or PC Companion

Thanks for taking the time to reply, it is appreciated.. Are there any step by step guides anywhere as to how to do this? (Sorry, I'm not very technical).
When I got the tablet, I was immediately asked to update to .402 which I did. I noticed that when I did the factory reset, the firmware stayed at .402. I presume you are saying that I need a clean version of this, which makes sense, it's just that I don't really know where to start.

In the end, I decided to get a replacement tablet sent and return the old one as the vibrate function is broken on the original and I don't think that's acceptable on a two week old device.
However, your helpful advice on reinstalling firmware is something I will use if I get the same issue with the replacement.
Kind regards
