i cant seem to reboot to recover on my defy. when i try to all that comes up is a warning sign with an andoid near it. i want to install a new rom but is still fairly new to this stuff can anyone help. will greatly appreciate it.
On the warning screen.
1) Press lower left screen if you're on eclair 2.1
2) press volume up and down together if you're on froyo 2.2
Bootloader mode:
shut down phone. Press Volume up while starting the power button.
This is where you should go if you want to flash.

I'm running a piece of crap ROM thats laggy as crap, drains my battery and is just garbage so I quickly tried to go back to stock gingerbread, but now this happens: I turn my phone on and the vibrant screen comes on, but then my screen turns all these wierd colors and starts to look like a broken TV. Then the words "KERNEL PANIC UPLOAD MODE" appear. My phone won't go into recovery or anything else. I need help!!!! Can anyone give me step by step instructions to follow to get my phone back? Thanks
Hm, did you flash a gingerbread bootloader?
Try removing your battery, hold volume down, put your battery in, and connect your phone to your computer, see if it boots into download mode.
We don't have a stock gingerbread so maybe you flashed something not for your phone

TRY THIS AND GO BACK TO STOCK THIS SHOULD TAKE YOU TO DOWNLOAD MODE
1) pull the battery out
2) plug ur usb wire to ur pc and ur phone
3) hold volume up+ wolume down
4) insert the battery in
GOOD LUCK...
Ya, like DEZI said....
if the volume up+ volume down doesn't work....
try volume up+home+power to get to DL mode
buy a jig!
I agree
- what is this "stock gingerbread" you speak of? link maybe....
also
- What were you running before the issue? link maybe....
- When you say "I quickly tried to go back to stock gingerbread" what exactly does that mean? What were the steps you took to achieve this?
As mentioned, this sounds like a possible bootloader issue.... did you flash any?
Good luck!
?
thanks !
Im pretty sure if you was on a gb, you would know it.
I don't think gb uses recovery
i guess the easiest way is to flash a gb rom. If you see rainbow, you have froyo bls.
You could always just flash lidroid odin and gaurentee u have gb bootloaders (at leats this is what i was told. if it effs up your phone you are on your own)
i see
vibrant
cyanogenmod7
then an android on a skateboard with a circular arrow going around it
I just flashed a gb bootloader and the difference
is that if you want to enter recovery, you would press voulme - and power button,
also the initial screen i get when i power up my phone is little different? that may only be because of the kernel?im not 100% sure, but the way you'd boot to recovery would be different combo button

Have you tried pressing VolUp , or both at the same time, or pressing the power button?
I think pressing them both or power will activate fastboot.
I realise that you asked for links to the fastboot files...but for sbfing:
Try these instructions http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-support/37159-guide-how-sbf-x2.html
Links to the files:
RSDlite 5.3.1 and 5.1 Windows 64bit and 32bit zip
Droid X2 Gingerbread 2.3.4 Motorola SBF zip file
key instructions at step #10:
With the X2 in a completely POWERED DOWN state, press and hold the volume up button on the top right hand side of the phone. While still holding the volume up press and hold the power button until the screen turns on. At the top of the screen you should see "Starting RSD protocol support" once this text appears you may release the volume up button.
Click to collapse
This should completely revert the X2 back to factory 2.3.4...(I have done this myself) and I believe this is the way they would do it at the factory.

Installing the cm9 get stuck in rsd mode (failed boot 2) , can somene addres me to a guide or thread with working links.

I am having the same problem, what I did was pull the battery, wait a moment, then while holding down the volume down button turn on the phone. Be quick because once the fastboot notification comes up let off the volume button then using the volume down button scroll through till you see Android Recovry that is where I found Clockworkmod Recovery. I am now in the process of trying to reinstall jockersax's .3. beta. This is the first time I have run into this problem I will post more information. As I am not allowed to post to the developers forum can someone pass this info on as several folks have had the same problem. Thanks
Why would you flash anything besides stock roms with rsd anyways. I feel its just an unnecessary risk to brick your phone. Fast boot and cwm seem to be preferred

download rsd lite, then download the sbf, turn your phone off and then hold the vol down button and press the power button. Next you'll see press the vol button down until you see rsd at the top of the screen then press the vol up button. Plug your phone up to the computer. Open up rsd lite and find the sbf file and click start.
