What do you like or not like about your G-Tablet?
For 299.99 shipped I couldn't pass it up.
Did I get a good deal? Should I have picked a different tablet?
Is there anything beside viewing angles that I should have to learn to put up with?

You should have spent another $100 and bought an asus. There are multiple issues that don't exist in the asus and are well worth $100
Asus got its own perks... and besides viewing angles this tablet is doing what I need. I see no other issues unless you have to have HC OS.

How does this help him? Buy an Asus, ipad, xoom or whatever the flavor of the week is?
The dev community and the price tag make the g tablet a win. If you were forced to run stock that's a different story.

Where shall I start.....
Hardware accelleration is hacked at best.
Quality control is less than stellar
Viewing angles are horrid
You have about 50% chance of soft bricking your device whether you customize it or not
You have about 5% chance of hard bricking it doing the exact same thing everyone else does and they have no issue
This product is most definitely at the end of its life
The newer tablets work with the market out of the box
The newer tablet have hardware acceleration
The newer tablets have better screens
The newer tablet have support from the manufacturer
He asked for opinions. IMO spending $100 for way better viewing angles, newer software, support from a proven laptop/netbook manufacturer, google market out of the box, and official support from app devs as these tabs are authorized to have the market.
BTW.....most of the top devs are either moving to the asus or something like it. As well as all the top devs who haven't jumped into the tab market yet are gettting the asus or something like it. If you want to follow the dev community then buy what they are buying not what they are putting down

If you bought this tablet to screw around with, it's teh awesome.
All tablets are obsolete about 5 months after they're announced, let alone shipped. That doesn't make any of them any less useful. Android support from the manufactures is currently the thing that is most horrible compared to that other tablet OS - where you get an update, and - well - all of the devices are updated. Android updates? Yeah... up to each manufacturer. Good luck with your 3 - 6 month old tablet, the new OS will be on the next tablet. Welcome to Android, it's Open! And Free! Yay!
You made a bad choice if you think you did. If you're happy with your choice, you made a great choice.
If you have doubts or regrets already, and you can still return it, DO IT. Get something else. Maybe even a different OS.
I'm quite happy with mine, and I've had it nearly two weeks I'm learning a lot, and the price was right. Personally, for $400, I'd still NOT have an android tablet, but that's just me.

All nice...but...none of this is what the OP asked. He/She wanted to know was this a good purchase at a good price. I'm sure he/she saw other tablets on the market and shopped within budget. There's always a step up you can spring for, show me a better tablet at or under $300.00 and I'll recant.
Should I buy the BMW, why not the Mercedes.

is a huge deal IMHO. I don't recommend anyone buy a Samsung phone because their support sucks (even Google Android devs can't stand them and hate working with them). While their hardware is great.
HTC is the best smartphone maker out there - hands down. The continued support they provide the community and their phones is second to none. Look at how many of their old phones are still getting updates? My Evo is almost a year old and is about to get Gingerbread direct from HTC (even though CM7 is out for it).
So that's another thing to look at. You don't want to drop $300 every 6 months in order to maintain support - you want to find a device made by a manufacturer that has a proven support track record - and Asus is one, Acer is another. Viewsonic is not. We're in an age where, while there is new stuff coming out daily, the existing hardware is still viable due to the community and the manufacturer support (when you pick the right one).
I think it's often overlooked.
Quality is everything to me, my Xoom does everything I need and it's stable, plus it will most likely get regular updates to issues and featurees. Still, it looks like a great tablet compared the Galaxy Tab.

That's a good point and the reason I chucked my Captivate in favor of the HTC Inspire. I admit that I didn't realize how bad Viewsonic's support was going in, with that said, I still think this is the best choice at or under $300.00 Now if the OP wants to fork up the extra cash I say go for it, I looked for the Asus myself and may infact purchase one whenever they become available.

I didn't seriously consider any tablet when they were 400 dollars or over. I would buy an Asus down the line (when it is close to obsolete) when it hits 299.99 or lower.
However I was not aware Viewsonic did not support the G-Tablet very well. Is support in this forum from developers going to dry up in the next year? If I could get year out of this tablet I would be happy. Obviously I hoping for Gingerbread. Or Honeycomb rather? I am a newbie. (can't you tell?)
Its hard to say what support is going to look like, but the older this item gets the more development its likely to lose, its the natural order of things.

There are different factors too.... Look at the Nexus One. Still getting updates (albeit it's Google's), but TMobile is still pushing updates for the myTouch.... The Evo is 1yr old. Others are older and still getting development from the community at-large. A company's willingness to be open to the community contributes as well....

Right when I saw Eric: I said no. Just no.
Kinda cool. Wonder how hot it gets?
I have never payed more than $30 for a watch. Why do I need one with apps or customizable display. That's what I have an Android phone for. I mean unless they eventually turn this into an actual wrist phone, I don't see myself ever being interested.
Sent with a Rezounding HELL YEA!
Seems excessive and gimmicky. It's like having a cell phone for my cell phone. Why mount this watch on my bicycle when I can just mount my cell phone on my bicycle? Waste of money in my eyes.
Already a backer
I'm already a backer, can't wait to get one.
I won't lie, it's a niche accessory and a little pricey.
But i think we might find some really novel uses for this.
and if they become popular prices could drop for similar
watches in the future.
I really have no use for one even though I'm a huge gadget freak. I'll admit it would be cool to have but it'll probably be one of those things where the novelty runs out quickly and after like a month or two you'll be like why did I buy this? I can't even imagine trying to type on that thing.
Honestly, I think I would take the MotoActv over the Pebble. MotoActv runs a full Android OS, and has better integration with Android phones and more features overall than the Pebble watch does.
It'd be nice if it also integrated with wireless heart rate monitors (common for runners). My fiance has the monitor and it comes with its own watch, but its entirely observational - has no recording capability. Since this thing connects to your phone, it could store your exercise stats in an app.
But thats IF it could connect to both your phone and heart rate monitor simultaneously. I wish the monitor would connect to the phone, but no app available and pretty sure its RF instead of bluetooth.
ooooooo. i need the red one.
Dumbest thing ever

Hi folks,
just bought a new one x+ and it seems to have really lot of dead pixels. Because there is so much of them, I'm not even sure if they are really dead pixels or some other problem. So before I go to RMA with the phone, it would help me to have confirmed that really the problem is dead pixels or what it really is so that I can properly argue with the RMA guys.
Thanks
Edit: On the larger image, the problematic area is located after Calls and Apps. The dark line is probably just dust or hair.
It may be something else. Dead pixels are usually black AFAIK. It may be some kind of dust or liquid under the screen
Well,
it does not really matter what it is...on a brand new high end gadget there must not be anything like that, period!
And no need to argue with any sales person. Just ask for a replacement, and make sure that one is in perfect visual order before leaving the store

Maybe I was hoping that it is something that can go away by itself or fixed easily. I agree that on such high-end device no glitches of any sort are ok. Right now they don't have the phones in stock so I will have to wait until they get new batch. :crying:
Hey guys, so yesterday I made the switch to Sprint (it's waaay cheaper than VZW here..) and in return I got rid of my Rezound in exchange for the beautiful HTC One. I'm gonna miss all the talented developers here but I'm gonna miss Snuzzo's kernel and how helpful he is the most . It sucked selling my Rezound after having it for over a year and a half. I came from an iPhone to the Rezound, so everyone here made my first Android experience a great one. The reasoning behind it is because my Rezound's digitizer plug-in was messed up after replacing my screen twice, my front housing was peeling off from opening it, the vibrating motor was broke and the battery life was..well, we know our Rezounds and their batteries lol. I never post but I feel like I'm friends with everyone here just because this community is so nice and helpful. I'm gonna miss you all .
PS the One is amazing. I'm not as wowed as I was with my Rezound because I'm already familiar with Sense and Android, but it feels great in my hands and looks amazing.
I just bought a pair of Nexus 4s for the wife and I and switched to T-Mobile. This is definitely an awesome little dev community. Many thanks to all!

First; thank you for the kind words BOTH OF YOU. Good to see I helped you. Second; Who says I won't be doing anything on the Htc One?
I will definitely miss this community too! 3 days before I leave for basic training, my battery goes south and the earliest I can get a new battery is sometime on Tuesday...when I'll already be on a plane to Ft. Jackson. Bought a GS3 on CL, and I must say, the battery life is so phenomenal compared to the Rezound. 12+ hours compared to my average 4-6.
Will definitely miss the devs! I've been here since launch day in November 2011. My oh my how far development has come!!

Nothing about this phone makes it anywhere near obsolete, but you guys just keep chasing after the latest, greatest shiny new device, and keep spending $$$. The smarter ones will be around to pick up your dirt cheap discarded leftovers. I'm still on my very first Rezound (purchased on Black Friday 2011), I just gave a used "spare" to my wife after her old dumb phone died, and now I have another backup/experimenting phone for cheap.
THANK YOU!

Ahhh... I see. Common sense is the new Jealousy. :silly:
I could pay cash for a new One every month, and never miss the money. I don't live in my mom's basement, either. Fact remains, the Rezound is still a great device, and other than the lemming-like desire to have the "latest and greatest" (for no other reason than the dread of feeling left out of the stampede), there's no real reason to switch from it.
BTW... how much better was that Nexus than your Rezound? (my wife has one for a company-issued phone, and it SUCKS compared to her Rezound)
I am thinking of getting an S4 to replace my Rezound and use the Rezound to replace my D1. That way I can still have the best of both worlds.

I liked my Nexus way better vs my Rezound. Battery life was better, call quality was great, no creaky back and no washed out colors like the LCD on the Rezound. I do admit that the display on the Rezound is more crisp. That and all AOSP roms atm on the Nexus are way smoother for now. The only reason I dropped the Nexus is cause the screens would keep crapping out on me. Once developement starts firing up for the S4 bye bye S3! Plus if you have the financial standing to buy a new device and have enough left over in your bank for rainy days why care? Spend your money on things you enjoy! Spoil your wife and kids! When you croak and have a nice life insurance policy they'll be set for some time.

When we're talking about a devices that are hobbled by the inability to replace batteries when they go dead (planned obsolescence), or upgrade memory (thus forcing users into relying on cloud storage and higher data charges), then yes... it is a lesser intelligence issue. I don't know.. Last time i used the camera was in september.. and before that when i used my Note i would maybe take 20 photos a year. People who bought the ZU and thought that the camera would be great, didn't do enough research. BUT still, the camera is fantastically bad, and Sony should correct this so it's possible to use it without being shocked every time we use it. It's currently on the same level as my old Game Boy camera. Fine, it's not but it's close.
And about the "petition". Forget about it. It's the least effective thing in the world. Contact them directly and talk to a human being. It works much better, and you'll know that your message has been received. If possible, try to get transfered to the dev section.
When I bought this phone, I knew I was getting a dismal camera. I don't know anyone that bought the phone thinking this was something that they were going to use a lot. It was the screen size...

Apparently reports are in about removing the OEM protector, and replacing with your own one improves display and colour quality.
But the pain and time to do it is quite intensive. If mine does this, I think I will remove it.

And about the "petition". Forget about it. It's the least effective thing in the world. Contact them directly and talk to a human being. It works much better, and you'll know that your message has been received. If possible, try to get transfered to the dev section.

Pal, we aren't getting any Software improvements. Chromatic aberrations shows clearly the use of a very simple and compact.camera module with reduced optical compounds to fit into less-than-six millimeter space (6.4mm less the fit case support) but we didnt get the xzu expecting stunning camera performance, as long as Sony never promised onit. Right? There is much far other cool stuff on the device..

i think its time to send a clear loud message about the camera issue with z ultra, and ask Sony for a clarification of whether this issue with the camera is a software issue or a hardware issue, can someone please take the lead to roll this petition to the attention of Sony

I totally agree that the camera of the XZU is a waste (especially the low light performance) but whilst I sort of knew this from the review and the fact that it has no flash, my reasons for buying this phone are totally different-it is my 1st true Phablet.
Is a Petition needed to bring this to the attention of Sony, I think so considering how much money we have all paid or are paying through our contract deals via our network providers. of all the things annoying is why not put a bloody flash of some sort into this beast, you idiotic product designers in Sony. At least they should have the guts to learn from budget Chinese brands like Oppo, HDC, Zopo and UMI.
I have heard that a kickstarter project by the name of IBlazr is soon to launch an 4X Led embedded external flash unit for Mobile Phones and I will get this when it is released but why should we rely on external accessories to complete a faulty design.
To help you all make the best of your camera app, I strongly urge everyone to download the leaked Camera app of the Nexus 5/Android Kitkat 4.4, I installed this and I see that it makes a real difference. Hope the mods will customize it for better usability on the XZU as when I use it the controls of the camera appear to be partially hidden behind the Navigation Buttons of the XZU, whilst this is annoying, the app is very useful and can be used as the daily camera app replacement and to those that want to praise all other replacement apps, I tried all and if you want near stock experience, this is currently our best hope.

guys please lets not start creating a false xperia z ultra fan boy base like iPhone fan boys that cheer anything apple does even if its crap.
Anyone who does not agree on a petition or find a better way to solve this, or at least find a way to get us the knowledge if its hardware or software issue, then please get out of this thread. This thread is for creating a petition to voice our voices loud to sony to solve this problem if it is a software issue, if its hardware related then we must learn how to cope with this crap camera

better stick with the stock 4.3 camera, same quality but can do photosphere ( 4.4 crash when combine photosphere)
Its a hardware issue. Period.
3rd party app helps but marginal. If camera is really a big issue, I would suggest getting a Z1 or wait out for XZU2.
The XZU is marketed as having a good camera.

Stunning shots in any light — 8 MP camera with Exmor RS™ for mobile
The 8 megapixel camera is built with the same modules as leading Sony cameras. Exmor RS™ for mobile is an evolution of our Sony image sensor technology, with a next-generation BSI light sensor. By adopting the technology of luminance and colour noise reduction, we’ve created a camera that snaps highly detailed shots with low noise – even in challenging lighting conditions. You’re now also able to reproduce objects in more vivid colours and capture night images and faces in stunning clarity.

I bought this XZU because I thought that aside from it being big and fast, it has a good "stunning" camera. The image quality is crap!
Sony should resolve the camera issue, otherwise, it is DECEPTIVE advertising.

Have fun with your pointless petition, do you honestly think Sony will do anything when the Z1 is out?
If the camera is that important there is an easy solution.

what is with all these people who seem think its ok the camera is this bad? and giving Sony a free pass...
the device is marketed as having an amazing camera yet its about as bad as phones 3-4 years old.
that is not an excuse.
its not average, its crap.
and it needs to be fixed.

Maybe because those people didn't buy it for the camera because who would? Some people apparently.
Still makes me wonder why people went with Z Ultra if it matters so much?
Yes, the phone is large and nice but come on, use some common sense. If the camera is that important that you need it then the Ultra is clearly not for you? I took some photos, they were watchable.
Have you guys even tried other camera apps? I just tried this and the pictures aren't bad at all :s.

No.
I'm trying to understand but I'm just thinking you're rather pathetic.
I don't even give a crap about the camera, I just think this is interesting.
Soooo, why do you still have your Ultra? Why aren't you complaining about the lack of flash as well? You could always glue one on.
