Hi,
I'm stuck trying to decide between the RooCase "Multi-angle" or the "executive". I try listing some pros for each folio, and I understand it's kind of a personal usage thing. But maybe through the power of the forums, others can offer some insights on non-obvious advantages of one over the other?
EDIT: Video reviews posted on A*mazon reviews for both products. Follow product link.

"Executive", $34
http://www.amazon.com/rooCASE-Executive-Portfolio-Landscape-Transformer/dp/B00547IQ3C
Multi-angle:
+ easy open/close folio; magnet flap
+ multiple angles
+ less awkward for standing up - there's no "prop" on the back like a picture frame.
- no portrait mode
- tablet has to be totally removed from folio to handhold
Click to collapse
Executive:
+ has zipper closure for security
+ 45 degree angle good enough for most reading tasks
+ tablet can be removed from the folio. The "slip" that holds the tablet is Velcro to the folio, so it's easy to change to handheld mode. Actually gives you a pseudo frame for your tablet.
+ folio can orient the tablet in portrait and landscape
-10 bucks more than the multi-angle

I've never used a tablet before, so the weight I give to some of the +'s and -'s may be due to my inexperience. Anyone want to chime in?
Thanks!
I think you can fold the cover of the multiangle back to hand hold it.
Executive would be awkward to type on in landscape mode
From the video reviews on Amazon (Thanks PCmicrostore), you get more info.
On the Executive, the picture frame leg that makes the 45" stand has a magnet on it to keep it closed when not in use, so it won't flop around.
However, on the Executive model, the two large velcro circles might be kind of scratchy...not comfortable on bare skin.
I'm unsure if the multi-angle can be folded all the way over to hand hold. The Executive can be taken off the folio quickly via the velcro, so transforming to hand hold is quick. But I'm also leery that it might come off the velcro if you don't zip it shut while transporting.
for me neither. It seems these cases don't accommodate a good typing angle.

For me, the ability to type isn't as important...I haven't seen any folio type cases that allow you to type...and I'm not sure what you would ask for? Would you want the ability to put it flat on the table to type? Or are you imagining some other way?
That is, if you could design one, how would you design it to allow you to type?

yikes.....Where is the love.
I am referring to the an angle comparable to the original Asus official case. It doesn't seem that either of these angle down enough to type comfortably- not sure who can type flat on the table....
Just my opinion.
I did not opt for the keyboard dock as i feel it would have been an option i would not have used much so i wanted to put the extra funds into a good case - which needed to accommodate a good typing angle.
I like the price points of these cases; however the angle is not there.
I ended up shelling out alittle more than i wanted to for the Pdair. Which is a great choice for me. - I know this is not the thread for an review of it.
These roos cases are a great choice but just not for me.

lol. Yeah, I was kinda harsh. I see what you mean about the Pdair. I guess for the two roocases, they would be more for reading. I agree that typing would be difficult, having to rearrange things.
In general, I'm beginning to think that the ability to do portrait orientation is a big plug...might trump all the rest.
I ordered the multi-angle because I wanted something as low-profile as possible, while still protecting the tablet from scratches and giving me something a bit more substantial to hold onto.

Bingo, I did my preorder 2 weeks ago and they will ship it Monday (cross fingers).
Even though it is not leather based on the reviews on Amazon for the Ipad 2 version being stellar I see this as less risky than doing the Ebay jobs with suspect quality.
The 2 angles are enough, one almost flat for typing the other good as a video angle. Very compact on both angles without the long extended flap.
Amazon just sent me an email saying my order of the rooCase executive and the multi-angle have shipped today.

My order has been "Shipping soon" for like the entire week lol
Mine shipped yesterday.
jc
Last week I also received a ship notice for my Amazon/PC Micro pre-order however I'm beginning to question if these have really shipped.
When I track my order through Amazon the expected arrival date is still July 18th.
When I track the shipment at USPS.com I get this...
"The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on June 25, 2011 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date..."
and no other tracking info.
I wonder if these have actually shipped or if PC Micro just printed shipping labels and are still waiting for stock to come in.
That is my status also, USPS status electronic shipping info received. Damn I hate tracking that tells you nothing.
Mine should be arriving today!
This is a great case. It has cutouts for all the buttons. The stand is held in place by a magnet. It's stronger than it looks. The material seems to be real leather. Feels really nice. The inner case holds the pad in with a velcro latch. It covers up more of the bezel than I'm used to but it's great for use in the house. The portfolio portion is nice and heavy and padded. I'll only be using it to transport the tablet as the inner part is much lighter. The velcro for standing the tablet up works but I can see the velcro circles on the back of the inner portion could be an irritation in some cases.
Does anyone know of another case that is similar to the executive? I use my tab a lot for work and always need extra space for a notepad, business cards, pen, etc.

Just got my Transformer today and went to Staples to see what sort of cases they had available. Anyway, long story short, I came across this folio/zip up case...
http://www.staples.com/SOLO-Studio-Collection-iPad-eReader-Jacket-Brown-9.7/product_912505
It's listed for the ipad/kindle dx, but it ended up fitting great. There are some downsides to it which I will list below, but all in all it's a great alternative case with the limited selection available.
Pros:
- Very well padded case
- Nice design, very simple
- Holds the transformer in place well
- Soft interior which shouldn't scratch the screen at all
- Zips up for extra protection/reinsurance
- Can charge the Transformer while in the case
Cons:
- Covers up the top volume rocker slightly
- Covers up the power button fully
I got it for $25 in-store, online it's a little bit more. If you could deal with those two cons, it's a fine case.
If you have any questions, just ask.

No problem. I know right now the only options for Asus transformer cases are the overpriced official one or the one's from Hong Kong, so I figure this case is worth it for those looking for something else.
thanks for the info, i'm looking for a portfolio type case and i think ill drop by staples and give this a look.
Thanks for posting this. I am also looking for a Portfolio style case. I like that the two corners on one of the side are static and not elastic. The price point is high though, that is about what I'd expect to pay for something made specifically for the Transformer ideally. I might have to bite though depending on how long I can hold out for my ideal case.

No problem. The fit is great actually, it's just some rockers are slightly covered up. You can still power it on while in the folio, you just can't see the button, but it's not difficult to press down. I don't think the official Asus Sleeve is worth $40 honestly, nor do a lot of people. There is also an Asus folio on ebay for around $18, but it's shipped from Hong Kong.

Just picked one up today thanks to your post. I like it and look forward to using it alot!
What I've been looking for.
Thanks for the infos. Wil head to Staples tomorrow.
just got my tf yesterday...........picked up this case today!
You're welcome. Post up how your opinions on the case when you get it!
wow this case looks luxurious and awesome. can it prop the TF up?
I like the portfolio to protect it as I'm holding it, but is there a portfolio with room for cords/chargers/etc? I thought maybe I'd buy a portfolio for protection while using it AND a bag for travel but that seems redundant....
Some more pics
Got mine today. It's pretty much perfect.
Like OP said, there are two static corners, if you place the corner of the TF with the power button and volume rocker there, you may potentially trigger the power button accidentally though very unlikely. But if you rotate it 180 degrees and place the power button corner on the top right with the two elastic bands (I just use one band and leave the other one down), then the way the band wrap around even if it goes over the power or volume button, it doesn't wrap around tight enough to trigger it.
I read lots of PDFs with the TF in portrait mode sitting on the Arkon stand, so I need a case that I can take the TF in and out of easily. This Solo case is secure but also at the same time easy to take out.
When you use it in the case, no screen real estate is covered.
It's very well build, both covers are well padded with very hard "card board- like" (for the sake of lack of a better word), ok how about titanium plate-like material, so you can confidently place the TF in your bag with other hard, sharp objects around.

Nah. You can rig it to stay propped up with the right angle, but it's not meant for it and probably won't stay in that position for long.
Quick Review...yes its copied from the other thread that I posted in. But I figure plagiarizing my own stuff is ok. Plus, there are pictures now!
Material: Definitely not real leather. Is PU Leather but doesn't feel "cheap" in the hand either! Inside of the case is a velvety "soft" material...I guess a cloth version of suede is the best way to describe it. (Definitely not Alcantara like the stuff I have in the bucket seats of my car.)
Workmanship: Can't complain here either surprisingly! I was expecting it to be well, just ok....but the stitching is straight and even, uniform distance from the edges (yeah I'm sure there are tenths of mm variations but...nothing distracting.) Holes for camera, proximity sensors, buttons, etc. are PERFECTLY aligned when the TF is properly inserted.
Closure: Magnetic...decent snap to it. There's magnets on BOTH ends of the case so it is quite secure.
Holding Mechanism: One of the weaknesses of this case. It has a flap that is on the landscape edge facing into the spine of folio case. Should have put a magnet or two in there to keep the flap more securely closed. Or Velcro. I think I'm going to add some velcro there myself. On the other hand, I think it is far better to have the flap on this side than along one of the portrait edges of the Tablet.
Stand angles: 2 actually, one inverted "low position" suitable for typing. One high angle for casual viewing I guess.
Conclusion: 1 thumb up--not two--because of the ridiculous pricing on these cases, $28 including shipping. Seriously, these things can't cost more than $5 in China where they are made.

Looks like there's a cutout in the tuck in flap but no cutout on the main cover. My guess is you can charge the transformer while in the case but that the cover has to be open.
Where did you get it? Was this one of the generic eBay ones?
I just got this case today (took about two weeks to arrive), and I'm thoroughly satisfied. It has holds for everything, even the Micro SD slot. Most importantly, the Transformer feels protected.
I just received mine today. I bought the brown version. It fits OK but overall the case is not of the highest of quality for instance there is a finger size mark on the front of the case. Can't help thinking in a couple of weeks the transformer will be slipping inside of the casehousing.
The listing on eBay said leather and I am going to complain and request a partial refund because it is definately not leather being some kind of ruberised finish and a joke of an attempt to show leather grain. I feel like I have been mislead....

Why are there so many people trolling the "FolioGuard" case in everyone else's threads? WTF? People KNOW there's the FolioGuard case. The point is THIS ISN'T THE FOLIOGUARD CASE AND IS A REVIEW OF A DIFFERENT CASE.
SoCalTiger, I got this one from eBay. Here is the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123#ht_5978wt_1018
I'm beginning to wonder whether this one IS genuine leather and NOT PU leather at all. I've "aired" it a good number of days and it STILL smells/feels like leather. The patterned marks don't seem to be pressed/printed into the case at all. There's a few other tests I can "run" to see if its real leather or not (including the "match" test, but I don't really want to ruin the case either).
Thanks!

Can you send/post the link for the one you ordered that you are not happy with? There DEFINITELY was NO option for "another color material" for this case. Just the variation in stitching color.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Asus-Eee-Pad-...I&otn=3&po=LVI&ps=63&clkid=419235527009776241
3 different colours. Think I saw your link to the seller originally or you posted on the same thread I was reading. They were selling different colours under another listing. Anyway from the pictures you posted it is identical to mine... I think the ebay listing is misleading regarding the material.
Are you sure it isn't leather? I haven't tried the melt vs. scorch test on it yet so I'm not 100% sure. It feels like a really thin layer of leather over a harder backing...

Okay, that's it. I'm going to report every single one of your posts to have them deleted. All you are doing it trolling with your links to the FolioGuard.
100% certain its not leather. Got a reply from the the seller saying it is pv leather (I understand this to be a man made material and will never have been anywhere near a cow) which is fine but they should state this al the way through the listing. I have asked them to amend the listing and requested a part refund. If not I will report them to eBay and see what think
I am sure most people would be happy with the case and i agree with your review it does a reasonable job of proteting the Asus. The stitching is good but there is a small defect on the front of my case which
i like this case, might have to get one
well I am happy with the case seeing as i have just received a full refund. I do not need to return it either. So feels like a bargain now! Just shows you it is worth complaining. I hope they amend the listing to make it clear this is not leather for other people.

Yeah, it's kind of pricey but if you can afford it I totally understand getting a nice one. It's something you'll be holding for hours and hours. And I'd rather cover a really cool tablet with nice leather than cheaper plastic.
I don't think I can afford this one but I will be looking for a nice leather one. I have good leather on my Nook Simple Touch and love it.

They are very nice, very good quality leather, very good craftsmanship. Hand made after you order so allow an extra day. They might do custom tooling for you as well if you ask.
(tried to quote dkb218, but due to a link within the quote I cant do that yet!)
or you can go on ebay and buy a nice leather folio case from hong kong for ~$8...
...and it won't be hand-made in Santa Rosa, California, and won't be nearly as nice...
But, yeah, I can't afford one of those either.
Just buying 2 Nooks for xmas gifts and reeling from the intial cost. It isn't in my budget this year. But I really like them. I will hang onto the link for a possible Birthday or an xmas gift for next year..
Thanks.. I looked at the ones at B&N when I picked up the nooks and did not like them at all. Except for black, all the color ones were like neon colors which is not my taste, and made them look cheap.. Black just looked blahhh.. I like a darker deeper richer color as these leather ones seem to have.
One Note. I noted the B&N covers had holes in the cover for air.. I would imagine not a need unless you like to close the cover and leave it on. With all the cardboard & wool & leather on these covers, I don't think the air holes are there.

What!? But then your Nook might suffocate!
(Why would they have airholes?)
Also, I wish I never looked at this thread, since those are really nice covers at Oberon design.
I got the Medici Nook Color cover in brown from OberonDesign. Worth every penny!
I got the same in purple!!
So, I just received my Oberon NT cover that I ordered a little less than two weeks ago - AFTER the shipping cutoff date that was on the site. They totally shipped before Christmas, and not way after Pretty impressive. I got paisley in green, and it's a bit darker than on the site (which is good, it's not garish at all).
They're really, really, really nice covers - not just the leather, but the fit is an exact match. The straps that hold in the device are exactly fitted, they are designed to not cover buttons or the wifi area, there is storage space in the case for papers, the cover folds back nice. About the only thing missing is a way to prop the cover up for viewing (the only thing the Kindle Fire version had). This is one of those things that, after the device it is designed for dies and it doesn't fit any similar device, is going to get converted into a sketchbook/notebook cover.
very nice wood/book covers for nook devices
There's an outfit in Minnesota that does a very nice wood/book cover for a bunch of things.
The nook color/tab cover is 40 bucks, so for both of you who aren't returning your devices to BN by Dec 26 - or who want to see if they make a case for the device you're replacing it with - check 'em out.

There are 3 heavy leather straps that fit snuggly - two larger ones at the bottom and one slightly smaller with a bit more give at the top left corner. You slide the nook into the bottom two, pull the third leather strap a tiny bit, fit the nook in there, then stretch the top right elastic over the top right corner. It's actually really snug in there, but doesn't require much pushing/pulling. I was expecting it to be less precise, more stretching etc. It's easy to take in and put in, and doesn't move at all in the cover. I have no idea how they make them by hand with this much precision - I guess test it on an actual device on every cover. Anyway, nice work, and the smell & look inspires me to pick it up for reading (versus games), which is half the goal of a cover imo for the easily distracted (me!).
They do listen! Skin cases are finally here

There doesn't appear to be any cutout, from the picture, so unless these are amazingly thin (which would make them somewhat useless for protection), I don't think they'll work with the dock.
But if they're easy to remove and put back on, they'd be suitable to use when the TP is out of the dock.
Has anyone ordered one of these? Just worry 'bout the quality and fit.
I wonder if they protect enough for a fall, has anyone tried this product?
I would actually like to know how is the fit with the prime, i think with such a big skin the long bezel sides won't be well adjusted to the Prime and might be too loose.
Found them in Amazon Germany, but no reviews yet :/

Will this still fit into the dock?

No. Based on the images of the green-colored case on Minisuit's site it's obvious that the TPU is too thick to fit into the dock. This being the case, I would have preferred that they fully cover the 'lock-in' slots on either side of the power connector, so they don't fill up with dust.
It seems like Minisuit had some engineer design it who didn't know what all the holes where for. BUT I'll stop complaining. A silicone case for $7 (shipping included) is great!

It is kind of remarkable that a company would go to the trouble of manufacturing these, but NOT bother to even see what the ports and opening actually do, to intelligently decide whether or not they need a cut-out?!?
Sheesh.
Worth a shot

These appear to be the exact same skins just in a different color, which means that the center of the back is likely to be a little bit loose, just like with the black cases.
Mine shipped today, estimated arrival of 5/8. I'll keep ya posted.
Blah
It definitely feels like the same case, however this new one I got seems to fit a little better at the back, with less sag. I'm not sure if it was just a manufacturing difference or what. This case still has the same flimsy feel around the bezel.
My suggestion is to keep looking for another thin silicone case, if you want to give this one a shot it might be worth the 8 bucks though. I'm leaving this minisuit one one for now vs the other one I got off ebay.
Still in the market for a thin non-leather silicone type case. If anyone has seen the HP branded case for the Touchpad, that would be a near perfect case imo, with a magnetic closing mechanism or something.
Edit: After a day or so of use with the minisuit case, I feel like it is basically as good as this skin type case can get without a major overhaul. The back isn't sagging like the original one from ebay did, however the edges are still could be a little tighter (This is where the redesign would come in,) but overall its pretty good. I'm still interested in a slightly thicker version of this, it still doesn't add much protection.
For those interested, a company, BobJ Gear, is coming out soon with a very nice, silicone case for the Transformer Prime.
He's already made cases for the Toshiba Thrive, which gets rave reviews on Amazon, where they are sold.
I was lucky enough to receive one of his prototypes.
This is a tight fitting case, made from food grade silicone, very thick to provide excellent protection! Access to all ports are available. One of the photos below shows you a comparison between the cases soon to be released by BobJ Gear (shown in purple) and the case discussed earlier in this thread (the green case, on top). You'll see there's a noticeable difference in the thickness of the case, and the amount of silicone used to make the case.
This adds a little bit of weight, but provides great protection for the Transformer Prime! Case will also work for the T300, and he's planning to release a case for the T700 down the road!
These should be available end of this month.
Here are a few photos.

Not a fan but im glad to see more cases popping up.
Thought I'd start up a dedicated thread for this case.

At an average of under $10 on Amazon, this case is a quarter of the cost of the official case. It adds the protection of a hard cradle that the tablet sits in, which the official case doesn't offer.
Based on the popularity of the case on Amazon, I'd suggest NVidia may lose some sales of the official case to ProCase.
One thing to consider is that this case might interfere with passive cooling as suggested in https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/767648/shield-tablet/3rd-party-case-/
For that price, I'll drill vent holes in it if necessary. ?
In going to take the risk and have ordered one.
Looks nice, I have a similar case for my Nexus 7 but I don't want the back all covered up. I'm still holding out for a cover that snaps into the bottom of the tablet (like the official cover).
I kinda wish there was a really snug bumper for it with a lip that would cover the harsh bezel edges with rubbery comfort.

Yeah, they really are rather sharp. Not quite sure why they decided to go that way with the design.
I ordered one of these and it just shipped today. I probably won't get it until late next week (US holiday on Monday) but I can take pics and give some basic impressions when I get it if any is interested.

Right, it's winging its way over to me with the shield controller. Should have them in about 3 or 5 days.
Mine arrived yesterday; I got the green one. I very much like the protection provided by the snap-on case and the magnetic cover "latches" nicely in the closed position. Opening the cover does wake the tablet which is also nice.
The cover folds back but does not seem to magnetically "latch" to itself or the rear of the case in either the "keyboard" mode, the "movie" mode, or folded flat against the back of the case. The "keyboard" mode works easily enough as the weight of the tablet holds it in position but the "movie" mode doesn't work well for me but perhaps the cover joints will loosen up a bit and work better over time.
I find the protection aspect (and price) of this cover to be far superior to the nVidia case but the nVidia case works far, far, better as a stand than this one does, at least mine.
<edit> Please see additional comments and retraction in the next post. </edit>
I retract my previous statement regarding the cover not magnetically latching to itself in the "movie" stand mode. There is a magnetic clasp there but you have to fold the cover into the proper geometrical arrangement which I clearly had not been doing. When done properly, the cover does indeed snap to itself quite nicely and the tablet stands up properly for viewing a movie.
This is an excellent case and priced, in my opinion, lower than it is worth. :good:
Well I ordered the red one off of amazon, should be getting it tomorrow along with my 64GB Samsung SD card. Hopefully will have my shield next week, have to wait for Best Buy to ship it.
Update: I received my case, and I have to say I was actually impressed with the quality of the case. Much better than I was expecting. My Shield shipped already so I should have it soon.
Just got mine. Nice case.

@aznmode, yeah just got mine. Same colour as yours. It's performing great for me. I just wish the magnetic clasp was able to grab onto something more secure when it is in "stand mode". I find the magnet sometimes pops loose for me. It's trivial to reaffix it again, so for the price I'm certainly willing to turn a blind eye to this behavior.
With the Procase, do any of you guys notice the shield getting hotter than usual?

I played HL2 last night and it got as hot as it did when I didnt have a case. There aren't really any vents on the tablet that it covers, so I don't see how it could affect it. If anything it should act as a heat sync and help with the heat.

Ok Thanks for the quick reply. I'm debating if I should order this case as well as the controller or order the official cover

I played Sky Force 2014 (not Tegra enhanced, but pretty graphically rich for a shmup) and immediately after ending my 2 hour session of almost non-stop gaming, I opened System Monitor (app) and my temp was 40 deg Celsius. My Nexus 7 was climbing up to about 60 deg Celsius on the same game.
How is it when you have the covert folded back but flat against the back of the shield? does it lay completely flat? Can someone post a picture if they have it please.

It lays practically flat, with just the smallest amount of rake down from the cover fabric hinge to the metal clasp.
Hope it helps.
Thanks @jaredmorgs!!! I was waiting for someone to show a pic before I order it.
