is there a way to stop this and make it ring at full volume from the beginning ?
Sure, I have my device modded to do that..
What Rom version you have?
Ke7, KE8, KF1?
I think a search button is required for XDA plus a manual on using it .

how about one for KF2?
Ill make ya mods for KF2 and KE7.. Post back in a few mins
These mods will require that your rom be Deodexed.. If it isn't it wont help you..
Meaning, if you are running stock rom you cant use them.. Are you using stock?
i'm on litening 1.5
Easy then, just see the link in my sig regarding modded dialer..
from cwm recovery, install zip?
that's what I did, and now I get a crash at startup saying messaging failed.. and there's no network
I'll reflash the rom, but how should I install it after?

Hello everobody,
First of all I'd like to say I couldn't find my answer in the forums , so that's why I´m starting a new thread.
My english is not that good. I'm from Chile and I just got my Galaxy SII. I want to install a custom firmware to take full advantage of my phone.
It would be great if you could give me pointers on how to start. Some tutorials to root and install a new firm on my phone, also please instruct me on wich is the better custom firmware to use.
Thanks in advence.

This question maybe is very stupid, but i just want to get it clear....
This
"27-09-2011 XXKI3 Batista70 FoxHound Edition 2.0
-Based on the latest official firmware 2.3.5 WIPE
-Deodexed
-Zipalinged
- Abyss Kernel 1.6 By Angelom
• Adding CW Recovery 4.0.1.5
• ETC.........."
Means
That if I flash my phone with this Rom it will automatically change my kernel to the one described (abyss 1.6)?? and so, it will also change my CWM to the 4.0.1.5 version??"
Thx in advance

Hehe, I know, but that's the description I had at hand.

One more stupid question, I asume that that's the kernel that goes best with that Rom, right?

Not necessarily its just the kernel the chef recommends, but it may not work for you. I personally like speedmod. The battery life is superb with the rom your using.

nope. again, think about it...what makes you think you have some kind of specific firmware?
KI8 is the latest - 2.3.5 - can be found on this forum with full instructions how to flash
it doesnt matter what you are on. just flash the firmware
Thanks a lot
So if I flash a ROM with kI8 it will automatically put me on that ?

i was confused about this too coming from a non samsung phone.
i believe what you would do (if you want KI8) is flash the stock KI8 kernel, then flash the cf-root for KI8.
after that you can go ahead and flash any roms built off of that kernel, or any other roms but if they use a different kernel you will no longer be on ki8

lol now i'm confused, can you just go ahead and flash a ROM with KI8 (from stock whatever firmware) and you'll be good? or was that not sarcastic, and you will brick it?

no, flash the full firmware which has the stock kernel included...you can then flash whatever kernel over the top if you wanted to

not correct at all. flashing a new kernel changes the kernel, not the firmware

KI8 IS the stock firmware. it has the KI8 android 2.3.5 OS, the stock KI8 kernel and the relevant modem
This is making my head hurt....
Ok, so if you are currently on (eg) kh3 firmware, which is the third release from august and you want to update to KI8:
Go to intratechs thread, download the KI8 firmware and flash it through Odin
You will now have the FULL KI8 firmware, KI8 Kernel and modem....all stock
At this point you can flash cf root kernel to root your phone, you may want to flash a different one, your choice. this does NOT mean you are not on KI8 anymore...you have to flash a new firmware (KI3 for example) for that to change
haha, sorry for giving you a headache. but i do appreciate the time you took to type it all out. thanks
can anyone tell me how to install kernal please ? sorry for the stupid question, can this be done with odin
Download the kernal of your choice, extract it and then open up odin. Then put your sg2 into download mode (turn phone off then hold power button, home button and volume down key) connect the phone to pc it will then show up in odin. Then where it says PDA select the kernal you downloaded and press start and wait for 30 secs and you are done

xwfk1 ??? Seriously or is it XWKF1 ?
Yes ,you would have to choose the nearest to your stock kernel, been said, nearest to KF1 is CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KF2-v4.0-CWM4.zip on chainfire's thread ( Link : http://download.chainfire.eu/22/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KF2-v4.0-CWM4.zip)
Custom ROMs will come with their own kernel ,so need to worry about them
Happy Rooting
Hoe this helps!

since ur on siyah kernel ur safe with the 'brick bug' issue ma8
u can easily change to 4.0.3(Zeta Rom) without any issue
fallow the install instruction carefully for a successfull flash

yes, thats the usual procedure to install any custom rom for sure
Regarding best rom,Sorry ma8 , asking which rom/kernel is best and as well as suggesting the same is against XDA rules for which we may get an Infraction from the Mod's
so please go thro a cpl of rom threads and see the changelogs and decide the one that suits ur needs most
