Games run laggy - HTC EVO 3D

Anyone else having this problem? I downloaded X-Men and it runs real slow and so does some other games

Android still doesn't handle dual core processors very well, icecream sandwich is supposed to fix that, until then some apps and games will give you problems unless they are optimized for dual core

2.3.4 was supposed to help single core run dual core apps better. It might be the same the other way around.

Dual core?

What exactly does the 2 cores do in terms of performance? Where should I be seeing improvements? I came from a cm7 og EVO that's was pretty damn quick. I love this phone and the battery life is suprisingly wonderful. I understand this is all stock without any kernel mods but it still should be one powerful device

well you could start by putting sense 3.0 on your OG evo and running it for a while and then turn on your BMF EVO 3D and you'll see the difference.
It runs separate apps on each core, soif you do a benchmark the scores won't show up that well, but does use both do you have osmonitor it should show both cores.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think 2.3.3 supports dual-core, at least from what I've read. Dual-core support came out for Honeycomb, and most likely Ice Cream Sandwich, but I don't think Gingerbread supports it.

Correct.

Well as HTCRALEIGHFAN said above me, Ice Cream Sandwich (2.4) will most likely support the dual-core hardware in our beasts. I mean don't get me wrong I'm not some shmuck, my 3VO flies, I'm just imagining what monster it'll become once both cores are operating.
Could app force closing be due to the dual cores? Not all but a few apps can't play on my 3VO but could on my og EVO.

Both cores ARE operating....otherwise it would run like an overclocked Evo.
And I seriously doubt Ice Cream Sandwich will be a step down in version number from Honeycomb. Some have suggested it will be 4.0, which seems likely, but definitely NOT '2.4'

The Motorola Atrix is dual core with Froyo. A Gingerbread leak recently posted as well.
Sure the hardware could be dual core or quad core for that matter but if the operating system doesn't support it its useless. I'm not %100 sure if anything other than Honeycomb support it but it seems that way from what I've read around.

I'll check later, but I'm near positive the Atrix Froyo kernel supports dual cores.
EDIT: Nope, you are right, I am dumb
Probably not optimized for dual core but I'm sure ur uses the chip set a little lol

Agreed. Although I'm sure one core complements the other... I think the full power is yet to be unleashed. With Android, everything seems to start small... Then hidden potential is unleashed later... i.e. root.

I agree that when the ICS update comes, it will probably take full advantage of the hardware, but its not like the dual core processor is useless right now. HTC wouldn't have put it in their devices to be released already if the damn things only ran on a single core. They would've been better off releasing this phone with a 2+gHz single core processor if that was the case. Anybody that has played with the EVO, had it rooted, overclocked, etc. can tell you that this phone is way faster than the EVO ever was at its maximum potential. That would not be true if the 3D only ran on one core.
The dual core processing works. This is not an OS feature, but a kernel feature. Dual core functionality was first introduced in honeycomb, because honeycomb marked the move from kernel 2.6.32 up to 2.6.36.
Multicore functionality was added to the linux kernel 2.6.35, which coincidently, our Evo3D is running. So yes, our phones currently are utilizing the multi-core processor.
Its simple think about it in terms of windows xp with a quad core... you didnt see any change in the proformance of windows xp going from a dual core to a quad core actually most of the time you saw a marked improvement from overclocking the dual vs the quad. This holds true here as well the "core" of the operating system can utilize the dual core but the actual software doesnt have any intelligence.. that means that it cant tell one program to go to this core not this core it kinda just bounces is around like crazy.. so fast forward to Windows 7 and all the sudden those quad core systems are crazy fast.. this is becuase windows can now tell programs hey this processor isnt doing anything so run on this one. this is what ice cream will do for us you will see a huge increase in multithreaded apps and being able to run multiple things at once which is already nice as it is on this phone i run pandora and text people and have no slow down which on my old phone was a joke. so just give it time this phone will continue to get fast over time this i knowo from being a hardware tech for desktops

ICS General Discussion Thread Rumors/Devices/Features/Whatever

So I was sitting here and realized that almost every time I load the general section, there is a new thread that has something to do with ICS.
So, I figured I would start a thread where everyone can post rumors, confirmed features or whatever about ICS.
Thought I would get it started with a question...
ICS is supposed to have full hardware acceleration. Does this include devices with quad core processors or is it only for dual core devices? I was just wondering because we are just now getting an OS that is optimized for dual cores and then they go and throw quad core devices in the mix.
If you find something new and would like a link posted in the OP, just let me know.

Dual boot question.

Hey if I split the system and data partitions in half in the boot.img to allow a different OS to run on each will that achieve dual boot or is it not that simple.?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
the next question would be, how would you tell the phone what rom to boot? then how would you tell the boot.img which half to read for which rom. then how would you tell the rom which half of /system /data to read?
i could keep going or does that answer your question?
Uuuuhhh lol, what if we refer to HTC HD2 to answer those questions. If it can do it on single core w/ fewer capabilities, I'm quite sure a dual core 1ghz processor qHD phone power can handle it

ps:haha you have my avatar
yes its true, anyphone can have dual boot, but not all the phones have cotulla working in development

its not that simple on the hd2 either. there is more to it than that. significant software development would have to done. the hardware is perfectly capable of it
Also, what OS are you going to dual boot with. There is nothing available with similar specs you can just load. Will need a lot of drivers, etc... I wouldn't mind the option to dual boot with Windows Phone, but I don't think it is happening. (Too much work)
Sooo I mean I heard about Web OS In very slow development for the 3vo, if I asked an hd2 dev for some help with that do anything our are the hd2 specs simply too current from the Evo 3D

[Q] Could android 4.0 could handle due-core or 4-core?

Dear all:
This is a question in my mind.
There are more and more device on the market with due core even 4 core.
I wonder if android handle that?
I mean, Is 1.5GHz 4core really faster than 1.5 due core on the same android platform?
Best Regards

The answer to your question is "yes" in general.
But it's not always true...it can depend even on the kind of work your device has to do...for example to extract a rar file, the more core you have the less time you spend...In general the performance can be affected of multiple factors, as well as Android version (gingerbred, ICS, JB...).
You will not feel very much difference in UI actions. I had a galaxy s(1ghz 512mb ram) earlier and now i have a htc one x (1.5ghz quad 1gb ram). Of course there is some difference but its not very very much. Dual core and 1gb ram is enough for most users unless you love to play heavy games.

It very much depends on what you're doing as previously stated but it can be of major benefit when running more intensive applications and will retain stability when your device is being maxed out more

Porting "Split screen" from Note2

I've just ordered a new tablet (Generic Tablet; 1.2GHz processor, 512Mb RAM, 4GB ROM, 8GB SD & Android 4.0.4) I've decided to try to port the Note 2 "Split screen" feature, I'm guessing I'm going to have to port the whole ROM?
If so I'll just give it a go, Apparently the Tablet is Pre-Rooted so it shouldn't be too hard to cook with!
Any ideas?
wont be easy! best of luck

its an Allwinner A13 processor, ARM Mali 450 (512kb) GPU... Is this a Problem?
Basically I want to be able to run One thing in one half of the screen and another in the other half...
Actually, you have a great shot st it. Currently the only devices running mw have mali gpu's. That said, its a Samsung specific feature so that could be your biggedt hurdle. You might want to try onskreen's cornerstone for cm. Just google it and youll see its pretty much the same concept. : )
Edit: upon further research qcom can support it, good luck!
