[Q] Noob Help X10 - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I need help
I have just tried to add a custom rom to my xperia x10 but everytime I click install custom rom on xrecovery It says "replacing stock recovery with clockwork mod.." and is stuck there.
I am on original 2.1 firmaware version
and 2.1.54 baseband
And I want to install a 2.2 custom rom
I am a noob so sry if this is a stupid qustion. Could you help me please?

which custom rom you're trying to install? and on which xrecovery version?
and when you say you click on install custom rom you mean you click on install cutom zip right?

I tried to install the wolfbreakTW v007
and im on the xrecovery which you get from the flashtool.
and ye I clicked install custom zip.

did you follow all the steps exactly as indicated on the first page of the thread?
Also which baseband are you on?
1. Go to Xrecovery and make a Backup of your current ROM (optional but i suggest it)
2. make following in Xrecovery
- do a Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache Partition
- Format Cache
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
3. Install Custom Zip and choose Xperia_TW_V007.zip
4. Go to CyanogenMod Settings/User Interface/Tweaks extras and Select a theme and choose Xperia TW [For Custom Kernel you need to do this Method maybe]
5. Reboot
6. Enjoy
Click to collapse
Then flash v007.1 update.
You need to be on baseband 54 or upwards for the stock kernel version
or BB52 for the custom version.

.......
I unzipped the file on my PC....
So anyway do I keep the file as XperiaTW_007.zip ?

Just put the whole zip file on your sd card.
Goto xrecovery and choose install custom zip
Navigate to where you saved it on the sd card and choose it

guys at the moment baseband CANNOT BE FLASHED VIA xRECOVERY... u have to use flashtool for it...
only roms/themes can be flashed via xrecovery...
also after flashing baseband u do not need to wipe anything IF you will be using the SAME rom... in case u want to use a DIFFERENT rom only then wipe data/cahe/dalvik...
i am using falsh tool again but this time it stucks on PREPARING FILES FOR FLASHING i am trying to flash the latest ,any help would be nice..
How are you flashing. The baseband should have .ftf extension. Put that ftf file in the firmware folder of your flash tool and then flash and connect ur phone in flashing mode.

for the xperia sspeed rom for example, you can also use the stock kernel, but why can't i use it for cm10?
That's a stock based rom so you can use the stock kernel. Whereas CM10 is AOSP based so many things in the Kernel are different for example Wi-Fi modules as well as other things

[Q] [HELP] [XP] How to flash CM10.1 on Sony Xperia P?

Hey, I downloaded the CM 10.1 ROM uploaded by percy_g2. Then I downloaded the new kernel uploaded by him to remove OC and then finally downloaded Gapps for CM 10.1. My phone is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked as well. I have installed CWM Recovery also. Well, I know how to flash the ROMS but want to ask that:-
1. I have two "boot.img". One in the zip file of the ROM and second is the one which percy_g2 uploaded as "Kernel to remove OC". Which one to flash and when?
2. What is the order in which I need to flash things and clear cache?
Please help!

1)Extract the boot.img from the zip of the rom file and flash it via flashtool.
2)Enter in cwm wipe personal data, cache and dalvik cahe.
3)Install the rom and gapps.
4)|Reboot and set up everything. Now turn off the phone and flash via flashtool the boot.img without oc.
There is another method but don't sure that will work. Extract the boot.img from the file without the oc and place it on the one of the rom. Don't extract anything, just replace it with drag n drop from the file without the oc to the one with the rom. After that do steps 1-2-3, reboot and you are done.

[Q] installing new kernel without installing new rom

Hi, I know maybe it's a noob question, but I have installed cyanogenmod 9 in my Sony Live Walkman, and the kernel that comes with it.
Can I install a new kernel (like rage kernel) without having to install the rom (CM9) again? It will work just replacing the kernel?
Thanks!!!

You have to download the kernel onto your sd card (make sure it is for cm9). And then you can just flash it using cwm recovery  no need to flashing rom again

Another question: I'm used flash my kernels with flashtool. I entered in CWM in recovery mode, but couldn't find the option to flash the kernel (just the rom). How can I install the kernel without the need of the flashtool (without computer)?
Thanks again!!!

in recovery choose install zip from sd card, then choose zip from sd card. After that you can select your kernel and flash it
Press thanks if I helped you
if you've got the kernel in zip format, ready to be flashed, then go ahead in cwm and flash it.
But if you don't have it in zip format, then you'll have to make one for yourself.
For that, you'll need to extract the zlimage from your kernel and replace it with the zlmage from your cm9 kernel, not forgetting to recompile the kernel. make a flashable zip, or download one, and flash it.
