I bought my phone from Wirefly and received it today. Instructions say to call their customer service number to activate, but they are closed now. Anyone activate an upgrade from Wirefly by just turning the new phone on and let it activate itself? any concerns with that? If that's what customer service would tell me to do anyway, I'd rather not wait till tomorrow morning...

Phone has to be tied to the account correctly. If you're current/previous phone still works... do not turn on the new one. Once you perform a Service Swap by calling in or taking it into a store... then turn on the new one for OTA activation.
If you already turned it on, just do a data profile update after it is "on" the account.
I called that number, but couldn't get through. I just did the update on the sprint website.

Maybe I'm crazy...
I went to AT&T today to switch my number and service. My Vibrant is unlocked and everything went fine, they ported the number, started the service, etc and then suddenly they said "This is a 24 month contract" and, of course, I told them no and to switch it back to T-Mobile. They said it was not possible for me to use my phone and not sign a two year contract unless I went prepaid -- is this true?
I've taken phones to Verizon and T-Mobile sans contract and got service. I freaking hate telecoms - what's wrong with me paying someone and in exchange they give me service without me signing my life away or having to fill minutes up. On a side note I talked to ATT Online and they said I wouldn't have to sign a contract.
No, this is not true. Just go to the store, buy a sim card for like 25 bucks and then call customer service to activate.

Ever since I did the s-off from team alpharev, if I try to make a call while roaming on verizon it says my device cannot be authenticated! Anyone else having this problem?

Call Sprint from another line and they will re-provision your phone so it will roam.
Call the area code when roaming. Fixes the problem.
Just start a chat session with Sprint, and tell them you want a HLR reset. I did this Friday, and everything was working shortly after.

I also had this same issue.
1. I started a sprint chat session and they did not know what an HLR Reset was, Then I asked them re-provision my phone. They told me to pull the battery for 30minutes and then wait 20 minutes after the phone is on and it will all work. (nothing happened)
2. Later that night I called sprint told them my issue and they re-provisioned my phone. Everything has been working and I can now use my favorite prl!
took 40 minutes but finally got sprint to reset my services.
I had the same problem also, but my chat went a bit differently. The guy told me to go to menu> settings>wireless> mobile networks> roam guard. He asked if the call feature was checked. I said no. he said to check it, then uncheck it and that would solve my problem. I said, "dude, are you sure about that?" Lol
I'll be a son of a gun, it worked. So maybe someone else might try the same thing if this issue happens to them.

I was out of my home state last month where Verizon was the only network. I was getting the same thing, not authorize to call out. Sometimes it will give you a error code, when you get that error code message just stay on the line, it will connect you to somebody in Sprint that automatically knows what the problem is and will correct it. I had to do on both of my phones. The customer service rep explained to me it is some new security they put in place and it takes some reprovisioning to fix.
Just got off the phone with tmobile customer service. Apparently wifi calling is available on the Amaze but only for business and government customers as of now. Because the woman I spoke to over the phone tried to activate it via what she called "soc or maybe sock" and went and checked a few things but told me if I could switch to a business account that would be good enough and they could push an update to get it working.
I will be going into a Tmobile corporate store to inquire further about this. If any of you have been told something similar please share.
But I honestly do not think regular retail customers will get it till the ICS release for the Amaze something in the 1st quarter of 2012 since its been confirmed the Amaze will be getting ICS.
So I want to take advantage of the HTC One $100 trade-up promotion which has a purchase deadline of 5/19. I ordered the unlocked version from Letstalk.com and they pushed it back until the end of May. I'm thinking of ordering it from T-Mobile's website instead. My question is in regards to the activation process.
My current AT&T's billing cycle ends on May 27th. Thus, I don't want to switch service until then, but I must meet the 5/19 HTC One Trade-up promotion deadline of 5/19. Can I go ahead and order from T-Mobile, get the device, and not activate it until 5/27? The number porting doesn't happen until I activate right? Or does it happen as soon as I checkout from the T-Mobile site?
You can skip the number porting when you order. I had to in order to get my phone to actually ship. When you activate, you'll get a temp number. Simply call t-mobile, say you want to port, give them the info for both accounts, and you'll be ported in the next 24 hours (aka when original carrier gives up the number).
Just did it today, extremely painless.

Hm. Would service for TMobile start when I activate then? I don't want service to overlap. Would your method allow me to receive the phone, sit on it until the end of May, call in to activate, then port my #, then have my TMobile plan start at the end of May?
I don't know that, as I haven't gotten a bill so I've been unable to determine if it started when shipped or when activated.

So I called T-Mobile and asked about activating once I received the equipment. They said they can do a delay activation so I can go ahead and place the order now for the HTC One. I did. They said I can call in at the end of the month to activate service and port my number! I should be getting the phone next week.
Now this brings up a new dilemma. My original intent was just to get the phone and go with T-Mobile's $30 prepaid plan. The T-Mobile stores either wouldn't sell me the phone straight up or are out of stock. What is stopping me from just getting the phone, never activating it with the $50 plan, and just activate it with the $30 plan instead?
By the way, I learned the entire remaining balance on the phone becomes due once you cancel service with them. I keep hearing people say you continue to pay the $20/month for the phone. Nope!
In late June or early July, an over the air (OTA) updated to my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (Android) phone was applied. After that I had cellular voice call functionality but no data. I called Straight talk support again and again for months. They would tell me to use a random set of "APN" settings which became whatever settings I was not currently using but had used before after a while. Like clockwork they would send me to a second tier manager who would check a database and tell me that a cell tower was out somewhere in Ohio so they could not continue troubleshooting. They would deny me a refund or any higher authority. At one point they sent out a new SIM card and transferred my account to the new SIM but nothing helped.
I took it upon myself to take my phone into the only Samsung kiosk in the city authorized to reflash the phone and had that done. Eventually I swapped SIM cards with a friend and my phone data worked so I ruled out the phone as a point of failure. I kept calling Straight Talk.
Eventually I was told I could have a refund. I was transferred to a secred number with a temporary code with what I was told was the corporate office. they asked me to give them the transaction reference number from my bank. I did this. They promised a refund and canceled my service. I waited two weeks then began calling again. More promises for a refund, more lies. At this point they had breached contract by not providing service and again by promising a refund, then denying while canceling my service. I begged and pleaded and eventually asked for service credit. I was given another promise of service credit equal to the year of service I purchased minus the time I had service including the time I had voice but no data service about eight months in all. I agreed. The next day the rep called back telling me only six months was approved. I said no. I kept calling. They resubmitted my claim a couple more times. I told them I would be suing them. They asked me to call back during business hours. I informed them I did not owe them the courtesy but I would do this. I was transferred to the voicemail of the first native English speaker I had ever heard at the company. I left my name, number and message several times very clearly. No call back. The original cost of the plan was about $550 if memory serves. I got about three months full service and two months only voice. I was promised about $400 refund.
So far they have only stolen my money. I will be looking into a small claims suite against the company. They have only ever lied to me time and time and time again.
