Root is coming. As reported by HTC - HTC EVO 3D

Just wanted to let everyone know the bootloader unlock should be coming anytime now. HTC is supposedly Diligently Working to get it ready. Guess all the harassment paid off but hey HTC is a good company and they like loyal customers so I'm not surprised. But hey we been waiting long enough. Jk we got plenty of time to enjoy this beauty of a phone everything will come in due time, soon as in Today hopefully LOL.
Here is a post from one website, but you can Google it and pretty much see its already in the works.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...bootloader-unlock-in-case-you-were-wondering/

Dude.....look at the date on the top of the link you posted. May 27th!!!!!

no offense but that is the old email from a month ago. Basically a day after they put it on their facebook and twitter. We all know its coming for a month, just dont know when. It might be here by christmas with Ice cream sandwich.

LOL is the new link better. Sorry

I'm sure they're getting the point. I think they working as fast as they can. I want it done right. I'm sure they don't want to lose a huge line of customers who waiting on root. HTC wants sells and they don't want Samsung to capitalize because they pissed there customers off. This is two if there biggest phones to date from a business perspective its not smart to be slow.

They could put an unlocked bootloader in a firmware.zip and have it uploaded to the internet in well under half an hour if they really wanted to... probably under 5 tbh.

unlocked bootloader does not equal automatic root

Sure it does, with unlocked bootloader we can flash custom ROM with superuser included

But you can flash a rooted ROM

No automatic root... All the bootloader now is doing is preventing us from loading a custom firmware (possibly with root included). Have to achieve S-Off first to be able to load those custom firmwares. So it is possible to have root now by someone finding an exploit, but impossible for custom firmware. If we have room and the boot loader is unlocked (not encrypted), then it is possible to then use custom firmware.

Is HTC planning to give us an unlocked bootloader or just one that isn't encrypted.

I see your point though I'm guessing priorities are:
1) fix the bugs
2) unlock the bootloader.
I'd be shocked if this isn't done by July 24th and I'd bet that it will come sooner.

For every new bootloader thread, God kills a kitten.

My guess is now that it has been made legit, even if the the OTA has no ETA everything will be AOK because some HTC QA tester will leak some keys to the locked bootloader to XDA on the DL ASAP.
The phone is smoking fast and sense 3.0 is great so I don't care how long it takes.....as long as it gets unlocked i'll be happy

Great news!
Yes this is great hopefully everyone will keep the bootloader htc emails in here and out of the dev section.
btw this was noted in the xHausx thread by me when I asked them why they didn't just toss it up on their site like xhausx suggested.
Their response(2days ago) was thats not how they want to do it and they are currently still developing the software to do such in a software update.
btw nice work, at least attempt at making a big stride in your thread in the Dev section. Nice to see people trying stuff!

Oh i agree. keep it going till its officially done and out for everyone.
If you accept an OTA to unlock the 3VO's bootloader, is it possible that Sprint can somehow disable wireless tethering even on a rooted device? I would think that they know what's up; everyone with a rooted device doesn't have to pay $30 for hotspot.

NS4G doesn't have to pay $30 for hotspot...AND the phone comes unlockable out of the box.
I doubt Sprint cares that much....we are a relatively small minority of their total accounts and we are going to find a way to tether for free regardless of if we get unlocked or not.
Also isn't Sprint the only company that doesn't censor tether apps from the market? I'm pretty sure they also have an official 'non-anti-tether' stance.
...and that's to say nothing of the fact that we pay for our data service and who cares where our bits come from and go to? We pay for the transport of said bits...the contents, origination and destination should really be irrelevant.
Besides, I can saturate my wireless connection with pandora or a couple of downloads on my phone just as easily as I could by hooking it up to a computer.
EDIT: Either way, I don't think they could possibly prevent tethering without throwing multiple monkey wrenches into the works.
When i went to look at the phone the otherday on the 24th my sprint guy that i always deal with said u know they r unlocking the bootloader in 60 days right? An i was like no i thought it would already be unlocked he said he read somewhere 60 days to try an get ppl to stay with it
Now idk if this is true or not by the way this guy didnt know a thing on how to root untill i showed him now he flashes roms like crazy lol

Possibly some info about the HTC Unlock and the issues people are having

Ok After reading about alot of the issues folks are having with the new HTC Unlock. I thought id share some info I received about it from a pretty knowledgeable friend of mine that is a Sprint Tech. So I Was in my local Sprint store today talking to my buddy. I brought this up about the HTC unlocked boot loader. (BTW he is unlocked with Revolution method as am I and we were sharing info on fun stuff with our favorite ROM's) But he told me that the Unlocked boot loader is NOT fully functional yet. (key word being yet) and this isnt for the HTC EVO 3D as It is for the Sensation only and the full unlock for the Evo has yet to be released. He said everyone has to wait till the full release comes out and This would be why so much trouble is being had with it right now.
He also told me that Sprint some time back knew that many new phones would be coming unlocked so. Sprint changed their policy on Rooted phones and their service of them.
And seeing that this is not been announced as a official release for the HTC EVO 3d I would lean more to believe what he says is true. At least this is what he has been told Via HTC and Sprint. Knowing him as I do I would believe it. All we can do I think is wait. Hopefully people that have been using this method havent done anything bad to their phone.. I doubt it. But like I said we will see.
Just an FYI and passing on what I heard......
It was official. What new policy?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
What do you mean it is not an official release? Why would HTC turn on the Evo 3G link on the unlock website if it wasn't official? Why does the HTC site say that this is only applicable to OTA 2.08.651.2 if it wasn't an official version?
Granted this is the first carrier branded phone to get the HTC unlock treatment so maybe there are some issues to work through and there may be another update forth coming. Only time will tell if your source is correct.

All I know is what he said his contacts at HTC/Sprint have told him.. That this is not a full release yet..
it looks to me as if everyone has issues with it working correctly. No S-off with it. Unable to get nandroid unlocked fully, issues with custom recovery like TWRP and newer versions of CW working.. So.. We will see. This is all I know. For me. Ive got mine allready done and working through Rev.
Never said new policy.. Just when Sprint changed their policy of servicing/repair of rooted phones. It used to be if you brought in a rooted device to them it was like the world ended for it. BUT now they dont have any issues with it.
This is awesome info thanks!

I guess this wouldn't give too much strength to the argument as Tmobiles stance on unlocking may be different than Sprints.

So here is the deal of what im being told.. And its possible the info on the Sensation forum says some of the same..
But What I was told by my buddy was that the current Unlock is for EU models or the Sensation and the Evo 3d. That any American models of the unlock have not been full release. Again.. This is what im hearing But I just checked on the Sensation form here and in their discussion this issue is brought up by more then 1 person

and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16733285&postcount=59
This could be a possibillity as an issue.. BUT I guess all we can do is stay tuned and see what happens.
Personally. I dont care if its a warranty issue or not.. If you play you pay.. Ive got no issues using the HTC version IF and ONLY IF its supported and real deal along with usable with things like TWRP and Nandroid is full unlock with S-off. Really HTC needs to jump forward and meet head on with the Dev/open source world and work with them not against them.
For now im full root S-off and until I see that HTC comes 100% on their end of stuff I will not use it.. if they come through Im game.

Root? S-Off?

How close are we to gaining S-off/root? The only threads that are being posted in in the past 2 weeks are the rom threads, and those are for the unlocked phones only.
So, how close are we to getting our phones rooted and such?

So there's literally nothing that can happen until verizon allows s-off? I'm probably completely incorrect in thinking this so correct me if so but, isn't s-off just unlocking the bootloader? Motorola phones always have their bootloader locked, but they have plenty of roms available, as well as root...

no unlocking does not give s-off, but when unlocked you can flash roms and kernels using adb, you can't flash radios though. with s-off you don't need to use adb or a computer to flash, and you can flash anything
basicly all you need adb for is to flash the boot.img of the rom after flashing with recovery

Yea it doesn't make sense, it flat out pisses me off as I'm sure the rest of you guys. I don't have the damn phone, but I really want it for the form factor that it is and phablet that it's not. I mean, hell the guys over on the gsiii got that unlocked, not sure if it was VZ or the developers over there but it's rocking and rolling, no reason why they shouldn't allow us the same.
Even their stupid data plans are out now which make it so convenient to share your data, legally tether in other words, so it's not like were just looking to root it to take advantage of their phones. The Crapple 5 is on the shelf, so what's the hold up VZ. Sorry just frustrated with those clowns at VZ.
Thankfully the OG Dinc guys are still hard at work dev and that allows me to run with JB on my outdated ride but if she goes up in smoke, I gotta real dilemma, lol..

I love the phone. It's absolutely better than my original Incredible, but I would love this phone all that much more if I could root it. I don't care about S-OFF or unlocked bootloader as much as having root and being able to do some of the stuff I could on my Incredible. Like Andy has said, as soon as we get any form of root, even temp root, we'll have S-OFF. We just need that little step first.
I gotta say I feel really bad for you guys. I was strongly considering this phone, even though I pre-ordered a GS3 to keep my unlimited data in tact. I planned to either sell the GS3 on eBay or exchange it for the Dinc 4G but I ended up sticking with the GS3 out of laziness. I was jealous that you guys had an unlocked bootloader from launch but what a dirty move on Verizon's part making HTC take it down. Really horrible.
So I've been following progress here ever since. I'm glad there are people doing work on it, as perhaps someday I'll have the upgrade I originally wanted; one I can comfortably hold. I basically have to two-hand this thing.
Here's to hope for the future!

^ That is exactly why I wanted the Dinc4g. The signal is solid, it's very fast - both processor and 4G internet ...and it fits in my pocket nicely.
it. just. needs. root.
It maybe because there is no htcdev unlock too. I plan on getting this phone, but my upgrade isn't for awhile. I'm confident it will get s-off soon, but i'll enjoy my S-OFF Inc2 until this phone is S-OFF.
even though this phone is pretty nice i wouldn't pick it up down the road... it's a ghost town for forums and with no root and half the apps not utilizing the google intended extended menu there is a black bar a lot of the time using the app. If you want something small and locked down the Razr M smacks this around i think. I'm tempted to go to it just for the soft keys alone.

whats happened with development?!

i think me, like many others, are checking these forums frequently to see if any updates or news to the roms for HDX, especially since the last waves of rooting happening all the way to newest OTA update, however the heat has seemingly died off with the hopes of updates, and that glimmer of hope with bootloader unlock that we all waiting for. I understand as long as this doesn't happen we are still limited to the Amazon kernel.
im not a developer but a savvy user like many others so im in no position to measure the difficulty of creating updates for the device, however with the floodgate opened before i was really hoping for lots of new roms and updates to existing, coupled with powerful hardware at cheap prices, and what seems to be wide audience, but didnt seem to be the case.
does anyone think there's any hope left for this device? should we just jump on to Tegra K1 bandwagon soon?

Yeah, not only does it delay Amazon's ability to patch the hole, but it also helps the developers of the exploit earn the money they deserve. I'm just currently concerned after that argument in the fire phone thread they may not be releasing the exploit due to legal reasons, which is bothersome.

The argument in that thread about whether bootloader unlocking is legal in the US or not is not even touching on the real issue. First, bootloader unlocking IS legal. Second, what is not legal though is hacking a device put out by a company and then charging other people and making money off of your exploit. And even if it were legal, it is against XDA TOS for members to charge for things like ROMs, kernel, bootloader unlock, etc. We can donate sure, but specifically charging people for access is a no-no.
Even still, Id pay for it. I really want to see some real development going on for this tablet. The Thor and Appolo gapps ROMs are great, but it would be nice to have a true AOSP build working.
lol

My HDX is still in the mail and I check here everyday. I hope the unlock sees the light of day before the HDX becomes obsolete eventually.
i dont have high hopes at this rate, this device target audience is opposite of most android users in the sense they're not the type to tinker with the software
its not like a Nexus device where most of the users going for it are expected with rooting and roms, i cant blame them, even the rooting process and safestraping rom slots is not common for android devices

I agree totally ,, and it also seems like this device is a favorite for parents to buy kids as convenient media babysitters and then the children think they need to come here and start modifying Bricking and crying ... It has been a bitter roller coaster ride I just want my unlock and fastboot stuff so I can unlock, archive the rest, and be on the next device. Uhg and I am sorry but this forum has given me fantasies such as hoping the next update will come with a choke Bart emoji on my keyboard;-p lmao only because of the face palming is starting to leave a mark ; (

Hi hashcode. Any info you can feed us would be appreciAted. I understand things are hush hush for numerous reasons but people here are starting to lose interest in our device and the longer we wait for a unlock the more talent we lose and, undoubtedly, potential donaters.
Your teasing and previous posts show u have some inside knowledge of the unlock. Any info would be great but specificAlly what is the snag the devs have run into? And I know it's rude to ask but how much longer are we lookin at for release?
I know u dint owe us anything but we thank u for ur support.
I'd really like to participate in today's Fire Sale (pun intended), but I'm not keen on getting a device that can't be unlocked. Decisions, decisions...

Almost a month after phone release....Zero developer support... sad

Absolutely zero support...so bad decision that i took this phone. ... No bootloader unlock method...no TWRP or anyother custom recovery. No root... its so bad...
Ofc, because s20 is coming
And I don't think there will be any development

Is the bootloader locked? Did you try to unlock it with S10 method?

Nope...didn't tried...too risky and too much effort is needed and need to do everything from scratch after each updates too

It is not that hard. Just use instructions from S10. I recommend Max Lee's video.

Oh, danke
It's still need to wait some time to get it active?
So there's hope, at least the bootloader can be unlocked.
For those who have the guts, maybe it'll be possible to try debloating, if someone wants a less cluttered phone.
I'm interested also in this phone.
Also, I think it's a matter of time until some devs get more news about this bootloader unlockable capabilities.
Patience is a rewarding virtue :silly:

Coming from oneplus series...they release the bootloader unlock on almost same day and TWRP and root will be available next day...here i almost waited a full month...still nothing...thinking about selling this and waiting for oneplus or something which have a good developer support
This phone is a tarted up budget phone, no "enthusiast" is going to bother with ROMs, it's not worth it. I have one, and it's one budget-ass phone, screen size and battery are the only things that make it vaguely worth buying. For the same price you can get a S10+ which is a much, much better phone in all respects.
The glasstic back is horrible (mine is even peeling off near the camera, great stuff for a week old phone), the cameras are pretty weak, earpiece volume is poor at best, and having to use an anctive headphone jack sort of sucks.
As for debloating, I just use Package Disabler Pro, same as all my Samsungs, and had no problems. Yes, it costs a few £, and yes it sometimes stops working, but when it does work it's a great job.
Not at all impressed with the phone at all.
It so sad that Samsung is really going down the ****ter with enthusiasts. Locked bootloaders and hardly any 3rd party developer interest makes all of Samsung's line less desirable. I guess Samsung is only interested in being the Apple of Android phones.

No that is impossible on every phone, but its not like you need warranty anyway.

There's a problem in your thought process there.
Samsung, or any brand in that case, isnt obliged to offer you 3rd party support.
Roms are being cooked by amateur hobbiests, enthausiasts or side projects for people working in IT. This has nothing to do with samsung and does not affect its "desirableness" at all.
The bootloader is not locked. Its secured so idiots cant accidently wipe the device.
If you dont like it, why dont you cook your own rom. Or next time, check XDA first if there's a community activly developing for it if you love rooting so much.
****ting on samsung because you dont understand something is not cool.
Think twice next time before you start to point fingers and blame the wrong people.
