Evo 3D Flash To Boost Mobile Bad Esn(Help) - HTC EVO 3D

hi to all evo 3d xda members i just need i little help with my problem,, this is what happen today,, i buy a htc evo 3d brand new in box but when i tried to activate in sprint store they says is bad esn i buy from craigslist ,, and the same time i call people who flash sprint phones to boost and they say they do for 190$ first month free i see a few evos flashed to boost and works good but i dont know if evo 3d works the same or if this people can really do it ,, thanks for the advices in advance

It is possible to do, but it's also illegal. I suspect you wont be getting much advice from these forums.
Maybe search a little in the Evo forums for a guy who used to do it and PM him.

Get your money back for the phone.

You're a victim of Craigslist. Who ever sold it to you must've stole it or something and sold it to you. Get your cash back. Next time call the seller get the hex number then call sprint and check it b4 you buy

there is no getting your money back from craigslists though.

My EVO is flashed to Boost and it rocks, if you want some info send me a PM and I can point you to the right direction.

Contrary to popular belief, it isn't illegal. What's illegal is copying somebody else ESN/MEID and stealing their service with it. Copying an ESN/MEID that you already own is not illegal.

Hate to state the obvious, but contact the person you got it from and get your $ back. Tell them that they have 24hrs to contact you before call the local PD. The EVO 3D is well into felony theft levels. Probably not something they'll want to mess with.
Who in their RIGHT mind would buy a phone off of CL w/ out first calling to make sure it can be activated??

Just do what they did put it back on craigslist and sell it to some unsuspecting person. Just kidding don't do that.

Nevermind...

I'm damn near ready to flash my evo 3d and my other evo to boost since Sprint still has no useful 4g in the Metro Detroit area.

Hello,
CL really is the Wild West. Every Phone I have sold, including my EVO 4G, I have urged the interested party to meet me at the Sprint Store and Activate it right then and there. For those who choose Metro PCS (who seem as though the will Activate anything) or Boost, at least they know they can go back to Sprint if they choose.
I am really sorry for both 3VO Buyers getting stolen or somehow misappropriated Phones. It makes it that much harder for legitimate Sellers to get their Phones Sold.
Cheers,
JJ

does it have a bad esn cause its been lost or stolen or just shows not clean for activation and attached to someones account? you can check on checkesnfree.com if its been reported lost or stolen PM me i may be albe to help you out.

still noone able to verify it can be flashed to boost yet?

maybe he just could not keep up his sprint bill!!
so either help this guy out with the info he needs or don't post useless information i love xda but there are a bunch a wannabe
lawyers&prosecutors on here always assuming some one
is trying to do something illegal, selling a phone that
sprint has blocked the esn on for not fulfilling
their contract is not illegal, and if the truth be told the OP knew this and does not want to be or can not be with sprint and just wants to flash the phone to a cheaper unlimited plan,so if you are going to post in his thread at least try to
be of some help instead of insisting he return it!!

That is incorrect. Even if you own the ESN that you want to change it to, it is illegal. That doesn't mean people don't do it, but it's still illegal. Modifying that part of the phone is a federal offense.

ok I know changing/mimic'ing an esn is illegal as per the fcc regulations but do you actually "change" the esn when flashing to another carrier that doesn't use contracts and whatnot? cricket, boost, etc.

hey guys i recently bought an evo 3d and i want to know hot to flash to boost and transfer info from my evo 4g.... can anyone help, is it possible???

Sprint Service

I currently attend the University of Houston and was getting absolutely horrible service. I contacted sprint, got a $25 credit. The rep told me i should be experiencing improvements very soon and coverage has already gotten drastcially better within a few hours. Any ideas of what could have happened?

But its ON CONTRACT that they owe me. Like hell they don't. After the Evo 4G came out and they offered their cheap unlimited, they had a huge influx of customers. After that, major network areas had problems with people even able to get data at all. How did they fix it? They let everyone have data, just at a slower speed. How else do you think reprovisioning works? Or deleting the Sprint proxies inside EPST?

Not true. Think of it like the QoS settings on a router. To maintain everybody having network access, they limit the speeds of everybody.

Ugh, are you kidding me? I didn't even know they did this so called reprovisioning. I've complained a lot before about their data, this is kind of the problem. Sprints equipment is way under par, that's why their data sucks. This network vision crap better be a big upgrade to both speed and capacity to their total network, or it won't mean jack in the long run.

Gotta move carriers

So its time for me to jump ship and move to a new carrier (Moved away and sprints service here is even worse then were I was) I'm not getting calls for job call backs which is hurting me a lot. So I will be switching to T-Mobile or Verizon. Never will go back to AT&T.
I love this phone though. I was a Evo 4G owner before EVO 3D. What phone would be best suited for me that is currently out, or coming out in the future for either carrier? Must be VERY powerful (I like saying I have one of the most powerful smartphones in available) And it needs to have a huge XDA base. I'm a flashaholic... (Pretty much rules out samsung...
You picked the 2 best carriers...
Verizon - Galaxy Nexus
There should be a lot of ROM's, cyanogenmod support should be quick, and the bootloader will be unlockable right after you get it. This is probably the choice that I would go with since the galaxy nexus is a google phone, the XDA base will be the largest, etc. etc. The Galaxy Nexus will be google's and verizon's flagship phone.
T-Mobile - One of the Sensation phones
I don't know which one has the largest XDA base, but I think all sensation phones are the same software wise (so it might just be one section). The sensation is also the flagship tmobile phone. I think the sensation has a great developer base since there is already ICS source ROM available.
Definitely the Sensation or Amaze 4G. Just one glance to he Sensation forums should give you an idea how big it is. It's at least twice as big than here.

If he's already switching, them possibly terminating his account isn't going to matter much. Besides, he'll save some money in the meantime

True, if he wants to get terminated he actually should use that PRL and stream videos/download movies/etc.
Roaming heats up my phone and drains battery but maybe the same effect isn't present on the PRL.
I will be paying the early termination fee to sprint.
If you go with Verizon, the HTC Rezound is the most comparable to the E3D, with a faster processor and a better screen (but minus the 3D camera, of course).

Yeah, go ahead and carefully look at the terms if service allows this. All carriers used to do it. Tmobile doesn't anymore for sure. I'm guessing sprint will be the same, that if you move into an area that has bad service that clause in the contract is null. It is worth a look, because if you signed the version of the contract that allows cancellation after moving to a bad service area you have the right to not pay etf.

Call them back and tell them to activate. If they say the rep shouldn't have done that, tell them that is not your problem. You were told you could, you bought the phone, you received the phone, and now Sprint needs to stand behind what the rep said.
They give you more run around, tell them to transfer you to a manager. If that doesn't help, get on phone with retentions.
Replace the old phone with the lte on the main line.

Ya I agree with these guys. Wether they should have done this or not means nothing. Don't even bother talking to them. Activate it online yourself. It is very easy just sign in to sprint and it walks u through it. Doesn't take any time at all. If u don't have a login just sign up for one. I never talk to sprint when activating a new phone.

Tell Sprint word for word this:
Please just go ahead and activate the phone on my line, like I was originally told.
Otherwise, just go ahead and cancel my account right now. I've had WAY too many issues with Sprint as is. I don't even mind paying the early termination fees.
They'll jump on your dink(lol) and do anything you want. Maybe even offer you a few food coupons and a trip to Vegas.
Also.. why not just go back to that same Rep who sold it to you and say "here. Do it now."

That is insane. I do that ALL the time!!
I manage the Sprint account at our company of 100+ Sprint devices, we just borrow upgrades from what ever device has one available and activate it on which ever line we want.
Also to sweeten the deal. one of the guys here has an airave on his personal account. He was not available for an upgrade yet but he went to Best Buy to pre-order the EVO LTE and the guy told him his phone is not yet available but his Airave is and they could use that line to activate it.. and now he has a EVO LTE with no problems from Sprint.
Honestly, just call Sprint. Tell them you want to activate a new phone on your line. ALL you need to tell them is the MEID HEC and nothing else. You don't need to tell them where you got the phone. If they give you trouble ask politely to speak to their manager and if the manager doesn't help say this "can I please talk to the retention department" the retention department is the people who are paid to keep you as a customer.

Upgrade to EVO 4G LTE by buying out contract

My sister wants to get this phone and she is still on the EVO 4G.
I told her she could just buy out her contract if she wants the full discount. It's only $50.00 (she's a few months out).
The Corporate Sprint store said she had to hand in her old EVO 4G to do the Buyout. She wants to keep it and sell it (she already got offered like $130.00 for it).
She called Sprint and she said she had to go to a Store to do it.
I thought you could just call up sprint, payoff contract and then buy and Sprint phone after full discount from any authorized dealer with a 2 year renewel.
And sell your old phone any old time you want.
I bought out of my contract no problem...they never asked for me to return anything back....besides that she paid for her of EVO with her money I would call again and speak to a diffrent service rep....

No point in calling again. That info is correct. Sprint modified the program. It is no longer being performed thru customer care. It is now being done in the stores and a buyback of the old device IS required. You were told correctly. Customer care can't offer this anymore. It must be done in the stores. This was done to reduce issues from the previous program.

A couple of internal docs regarding the new buy-out program were posted on Inside Sprint Now, which of course doesn't exist any more. Yes, starting in the second half of June early buy-outs are only supposed to be done through corp stores and yes, you have to turn in the phone that Sprint gave you in the previous upgrade cycle. The fee depends on the age of the current phone. It is a new program though, so you might still be able to do it the old way by calling customer service and without trading in your current phone, just depends on CSR's knowledge and luck.
Wow, just another reason to leave Sprint I guess. I think that's pretty dumb, as you essentially loose the money you paid for the device. Unless the money you paid to get the device is somehow subtracted from the price you pay to buy out the contract.
yeah this is bs, why would i pay off the rest of the fone just to turn in the fone and buy a new contract.... if sprint keeps this, they are gonna use alot of business....
You people are ridiculous....
How about you wait until your contract is up then? Then you can upgrade and keep your phone. If u want to upgrade early this is how you have to do it. Otherwise don't do it. Simple. Yet another reason to leave sprint? Lol. That sounds silly. Please explain to me how other providers run their buyout programs.

I never let a "contract" sway when I do anything.
I think it's ridiculous when folks say I can't do X because they are under contract.
ok so i guess we're pretending that they didn't just take away the premire upgrades. you should be able to buy out the rest of your contract and not have to turn in the phone too, thats not a good deal, say you pay 165 to end your contract and then have to turn in a 500+ plus phone just do get a new one, might as well just pay the etf and keep the phone, u could actually make more money to get a new phone this way.

Just depends on the phone you have.
This is one specific program.. there are others
The push with buyback of the current phone in this specific program is the increased need for phone recycling, which sprint currently leads in.
The crying over contract changes that happened 6 months ago or more is just silly. Premium customers received one last upgrade to be used by end of year.

Off Sprint Contract - Pre-paid option now?

Hi,
My brother died. Only 2 months left on his contract so I'd like to complete the contract for him then give his son the phone to use. However, the son cannot afford the $80 per month bill my brother had. Is there a pre-paid option I can get this Sprint phone running on that's a good deal? His usage would be light. If a data plan is available too that would be nice but not totally necessary.
Thanks,
CxP
Flash it over to Boost Mobile for him
A good option would be to have it flashed to Cricket. My understanding is that they will flash any CDMA phone to their network. There are other options of flashing to Boost, etc but they are kind of difficult process to do and illegal because another phones esn must be swapped to the Evo to work because Boost, Virgin, Metro will no longer activate a phone that they did not sell directly (even though many folks do this and get away with it....i sur wouldn't rick it because it is an FCC deemed federal crime).
What's the best stock software to be running on the phone for Cricket? The latest ICS or some version of GB?
Thanks,
CxP

or
-Downgrade current plan
Best wishes to you & family.

Thanks for your feedback. I am paying the plan for the next 2 months to get the phone off contract.
I would look at downgrading the plan but I didn't see anything less than the $80/month plan that has data with it. I will check the Sprint site again though.
Thanks for the sympathies guys and for the helpful feedback too.

Where r u located? Check to c if ur in a cricket triband area. If u r I'd suggest flashing the phone to boost instead of cricket. I flashed a friend's og EVO recently to cricket in a triband area n his 3g is all screwed up...good luck.

Have you tried caing Sprint and telling them about your brother? They could just end the contract for you. It's worth a try.
Plus even if the phone is on contract I think you can still use it on Cricket. I see lots of Bad ESN Sprint phones on ebay that can be used on Cricket but not Sprint.
Sorry about ur brother man.

The phone will be in Berkley, MI. I'll have to check but I don't want to do anything illegal.

Am truly sorry for your loss.
I am assuming its an evo 3d....
You are allowed to break a contract on grounds the person who signed the contract has passed. If it not under his name that is not an option Technically the contract expired when he passed but you have to notify Sprint. Now the problem is they will try to charge ( eventually to the estate) the full retail price of the phone since it was purchased at a discounted price on the assumption they were getting two years of service fees. You might be better off doing as youplanned and pay the remaining two months to own the phone. At that point you can flash to boost or virgin mobile. Virgin has more sprint towers than boost...
.
What's the process to switch over to Virgin or Cricket? If going to Boost is illegal I want no part of that.

Cricket will flash the phone in store (not illegal). Boost will not flash the phone.....The only way to flash to Boost is to do an esn swap from an already activated Boost phone and flash yourself.....which is very illegal. Please don't spread misinformation.
Also OP, my sincere condolences for your and your nephews loss.

Yep that was me. I was able to get into his yahoo mail account and use that one to reset the password on the Gmail. So I ended up just factory resetting the phone.

Can you used the EVO 3D on any of these pre-paid services w/o a data plan? Finding out the son may not be allowed internet access due to some previous poor behavior.

U do not "flash" to cricket.... And "flashing" is not illegal. Spoofing esn's is. (But if ur spoofing it from a phone u own egos gonna catch u?)
Step 1 have cricket add ur esn to ur cricket android account.
Step 2 apply correct prl for cricket
U now have a working phone (talk/txt)
Mms is a whole different story. (Need correct apn)

"Very" is a little harsh.
Cloinging an ESN is a federal crime (regulated by the FCC), but the law is written to prevent cloning an ESN to steal service (i.e. creating a true clone - having 2 phones working off of one contract/service, and only paying for service for one phone).
The laws are a little bit behind on this one.
While techinically against the law, the fact is that if you only ever have one phone connected to the service using that ESN - and you are the contract holder for the service associated with that ESN, you are not "stealing the service" and are not committing an actual crime.
The government no longer recognizes non-criminal activity as innocent, however, and the act of cloning the ESN number is prohibited by law.
For a short break off topic, this is part of the problem with the "free people" in America - their government prohibits, they obey or lose their life, liberty, and/or property to their government.
The government can prosecute you for violating it's rules, even if you commit no crime (no tresspass upon another person's equal inherent rights). The limitations on normal people (the inability to bring a case to court without Standing - a distinct and palpable injury or loss caused by another person; Standing only allows you to bring a civil proceeding against the infringing party - no criminal (prison/fines/death penalty) sanctions may be imposed) do not apply to government. No crime must exist for the state to bring a criminal case against a person (trust me. I went to prison for violating a governmental licensing statute - without having committed an actual crime).
Government has no rights, and - Constitutionally - cannot bring charges against a person EXCEPT in the case where it is representing the rights of a victim of crime (i.e. a murder case), or cases of treason.
Government doesn't obey the rules any more.
So while intent is generally considered to be part of the crime (innocent intent to use service you are paying for should not be criminalized), the actual interpretation of the law may be different - if you are ever taken to court, and the state brings charges against you.
The likelihood of this happening is very, very small.
As long as you aren't selling phones with cloned ESN's, and don't make a habit out of doing this (and also destroy the phone with the ESN you clone - making there only be 1 phone with the ESN you are using), you shouldn't have any problems.
That being said, it is still, technically, against federal law.
