[Q] Cannot find exact thread for question about wiping - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I own an Archos 101T which I want to give to a friend. My problem is I want to wipe off all the apps etc that I have installed during my ownership. In particular I want to wipe out all details of my Google account which has been used to purchase apps on Marketplace. Although this next point is not a "deal breaker" it would be nice if I could also wipe out my Registration" details so that he could re-register.
What is the best way to completely clear all apps and data so that when he switches on for the first time he gets the "new owner" welcome screen and proceeds from there?
I have been using the temporary root solution which enables me at boot to chose "Developer Edition" but I'm quite happy in my own mind that this will disappear with a full wipe. Device still uses the stock rom.
I appreciate that in "Settings" there is an option "Full Reinitialization" but I would like opinions as to whether this will satisfy my needs or whether in fact there is a better method of wiping?
Many thanks in anticipation.

You can make it over the Boot Menu too
Just Boot Up your Archos and hold down the Volume Down ( - ) Button.
Choose "Recovery System" >> "Format System" >> "Yes"
After that connect your Archos to your PC and download the lastest Firmware (2.3.26) from the Archos website and copy it to your Archos.
Press power button once.
Your device will be resetted

Lenn I followed your instructions but I am now in trouble. Would appreciate it very much if you could assist. Everything fine down to "Recovery Sytem" > "Format System" > "Yes". Device formats with the blue bar running across bottom (I think twice once for System once for Data). After that a couple of messages (I remember seeing "Swap") then message comes up "USB connectionress ok to disconnect" I don't have anything attached to either usb ports but there is no other option but to press "ok" - Next message is "Update failed: (1)
No matter what other choice I choose from the "Recovery" Menu I get back to the usb connection statement and update fails.
Would appreciate anything you can add

SOLVED it Thanks Lenn
Lenn my problem is solved.Searched on G***le for phrase "USB connectionress ok to disconnect" and followed through a lead to the Archos User's forum. A user suggested this -- "When updating/formatting and you get the usb connection warning, at that point CONNECT Archos to PC and copy across update file into Archos. Then press ok and will get a warning not to disconnect while update proceeds, then it re-installs, reboots and you are at the "chose language first page of initial setup."
Many thanks Lenn for tour help.

I appreciate Lenn this ia basically what you originally told me but I was completely thrown off my stride by the usb connection message, which was why I paniced.

How to solve error updating Office Suite (X10 mini firmware 2.1.1.A.0.6)

It's actually based on my own problem that i get when updating office suite. My x10 mini isn't rooted yet before this happen but i already updated my phone firmware to the latest version 2.1.1.A.0.6 .
When first open, Office suite asked me "to continue, you must update to newer version. A newer version is available.", so i choose "Yes/Update", downloading process begin. After a minute or more,i checked again got this message "Error!! Updating failed. Try again?". I choose try again option but still failed. Restarting phone still won't do.
The problem is Office Suite is the pre-installed apps from it's manufacturer. So how can we fix this, if we can't even remove this app?
I got this solution that is in my opinion is simple.
First you've got to do is rooting your phone. If it hasn't rooted, you may want to do it now by going here. After you get SuperOneClick and unzip the .zip file, you can start :
1. Don't connect your phone to pc yet.
2. Run the SuperOneClick.exe that you download, click "ROOT" and it'll start checking until it says "Waiting for device...".
3. Now on your phone, go to -> Settings -> Applications ->Development -> tick the "USB Debungging Mode". Click OK.
4. Then connect your phone to PC and choose "Connect Your Phone" option in phone screen.
5. Notice the SuperOneClick app will start checking again.. Let it do it's job.
6. In my case, i failed to ROOT at the first try but don't worry.
7. There'll be a pop-up window asking if your phone are using firmware 2.1 or higher (You may need to check your phone firmware first, go to Settings -> About Phone -> Build Number). Choose "Yes" if you know.
8. The procces will continue again, now wait till it succes. It'll ask you to send message ....to you phone, choose "OK".
9. Now, you are succes on rooting your phone.
10. After that, untick the "USB Debugging Mode".
The second step is
1. getting "Titanium Backup Pro", i would suggest. It doesn't matter which version you use.
2. Copy the file to your phone, go to -> Application -> find the file .apk file and run the installation. After finished, you can choose "Open".
3. It'll ask if you have SuperUserRights, click "Yes".
4. It'll ask again to go into "USB Debugging Mode". You can now tick again this option.
5. After that go to 'Backup/Restore" tab, there'll be a list of pre-installed apps. Scroll down till you find "Office Suite x.x.xx" and below it "Office Suite Update Service x.x.xx". (x.x.xx was the version of Office Suite)
6. Click & choose "Backup!" the two of it. You don't want something worse happen.
7. Now, you can choose "Wipe data" for that two apps.
8. You can get out and check yourself the previous "Office Suite" that is asking updates.
If you find this error problem again when updating "Office Suite", just go to "Titanium Back" and wipe data again..
Done!!!
You can update your office suite again, just make sure you have a stable internet connection or else it'll get an error again. After 4times trying, finally i succeed in updating office suite.
please delete the link to titanium back up pro
it is a paid app you can't post paid apps here for free
it is against the rules

Check if you can clear data fro Office Suite and then try again.
Menu> Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> Click on the first hardware button (the one with four squares)> Filter> All> Office Suite> Clear data.

SE X10mini: in 'Manage Applications', left button, Filter, All Applications > Office Suite Update > Clear data.

[Q] Google Sevices Framework Force-Closing

OK, first my apologies if this has been precisely addressed on a different thread. I promise I have searched thoroughly and tried some of the advice found on a related thread (for the Nexus One):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792691
I am following these steps from that thread:
----------------------------------------------
0. Make sure Sync is off, leave it off for some time!
1. Go into settings
2. Select Applications
3. Select Manage Applications
4. (If you are on 2.2) Select the All tab
5. Scroll down until you find Contacts Storage (select it).
6. Wipe data+clear cache(If available)
7. Hit back
8. Scroll down until you find Google Services Framework (select it)
9. Wipe data+clear cache (if available)
10. Reboot and enjoy
----------------------------------------------
But I am basically stuck at step 0! How do I disable sync in the G-tab? I go to settings, applications, system applications, account and sync settings, but there is no option to disable sync. Someone suggested I disable the Wi-Fi to prevent syncing and then execute the remaining steps. I have tried this and it does not fix the problem. By the way, I am running VEGAn 5.1.1.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. This is driving me nuts!
Thank you in advance.

I would just boot into recovery and do a data wipe. Just use titanium backup to snag backups of your apps and stuff and do that. It will fix the error and any others you have been having most likely. It's the easy way out basically.

Thanks. Is there a quick guide on how to do this?
umm, if you are running a 1.2 based kernal all you have to do is turn tablet off completely and then click and hold vol+ and power until you see a recovery message appear. Then it will bring up the recovery menu. There you can use the vol +/- symbol to navigate and the button above back to select. Just select user data wipe. If you are running a 1.1 based mod you will have to flash Clockwork Mod and then enter that recovery the same way. The vol +/- buttons would navigate and home button is select. Its pretty easy.

[Q] Issues After Rooting Nook Tablet

Greetings...I'm a nube at this, so please bear with me...I rooted my NookTablet following the instr. posted on http://forum.xda-developers.com(points to link with video on how to root Nook Tablet)...After debloating completed I was prompted to choose from 6 options, the 6th being to terminate script(other had to do with type of launcher & what not, can't recall)...I selected #6 and the script terminated...After rebooting Nook Tablet I followed the rest of the instr. in the video. i.e., doubled clicked "n" button, selected homecatcher as default and selected honeycomb launcher as default...
When I double-click the "n" button all it does is scroll the screen to the right...
When I press the bottom right corner I get a Honeycomb Launcher pop-up and then it goes away, other times I get the Honeycomb Launcher Notifications window, but when I select any of the choices on the listy(Wi-Fi, Display, Sounds, etc.,) get "The application Honeycomb Launcher(process mobi, SyndicateApps.HCL) hasstopped unexpectedly. Please try again."...So it seems as if something's not set correctly with the launcher...Any ideas?...
Another question I have is that after downloading an APPS called "Music Download" and attempting to download a song I get an error saying that the download cound not be done because no space available, but my settings indicate I have over 11G of storage available in B&N Content Storage and 1G available of Other Storage...Why am I getting this error?...Does itmean that I can only download to an SD card?...
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated...
Thank you...
I have the same problem iwth the Honeycomb launcher stopping unexpectedly (process mobi.SyndicateApps.HCL). Now I can't get into my Nook tablet except using the standard 'home' login that doesn't have any of my apps.
Please help!
Can anyone help with this?..Please...
To both of you maybe a erase/deregister will do you good. Backup with titanium backup all your apps installed in data first.
- Open titanium backup
- press menu > select batch
- backup all user apps
Veronica
I ended up just restarting from scratch. Taking my Nook back to factory settings and re-doing the root process. Now everything is good again. Luckily, I didn't have much on it as I'd only had the Nook for a couple of weeks and could easily re-download everything again.

[Q] Logsprovider, Twlauncher and others error looping: please how can I save data?

Hello, I'm Italian so my English is not very good.
Please I would like to ask you if somebody can help me with this problem.
I have a GT-i9100 with Andorid 2.3.3. The device is not rooted and I kept the original software from the day i bought the phone.
When I turn on my phone I have this error message looping:
"The application LogsProvider (com.sec.android.provider.LogsProvider process)has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
And, if I stay on the home screen, also:
"The application TwLauncher (com.sec.android.app.twlauncher process)has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
And occasionally I also get some others Force Closure, as:
Android process.media
Task Provider (process com. Android.providers)
Message (process com.android.mms)
IM (com.sec.android.im process)
AP Mobile (com.sec.android.widgetapp.apnews process)
Social Hub (com.seven.Z7 process)
Somebody told me that if I do a factory reset I'll probably solve the problem.
But this is what I am writing: since I am disable, sometimes I don't write by hand and I record voice recordings (with the standard voice recorder of the phone). I have some very important data on the phone and since they were recent I have no backup.
There are mainly voice recording (took with the standard recorder app) and some notes I took with an app called Note Everything that I would not like to lose.
Is there a way of saving this data?
UPDATE: Here a video of the problem:
Some additional information:
- the phone also display the icon of "memory almost full". So I can't install from the computer version of google play another launcher, because it would probably not install for no memory
- the phone also crashes after few minutes (sometimes soon, sometimes later)
- when I turn on again the phone, it is allways on the same home screen (I have 8 desktop home screen, it is always on the fifth)
- I have no SD card
- I could go on settings --> applications --> manage applications --> LogsProvider --> Clear data. The error of "LogsProvider" stops appearing, but if the phone crashes next time it returns, and if the phone does not chrash, if I go on home screen I still have all the others errors
- I could go on settings --> applications --> manage applications --> and I deleted some apps. When I turn off and on again the phone, the apps looks again there
- If i connect the phone with the computer with usb, Kies keeps telling "connecting"
- If I put the phone in Debug Mode, or in USB Mode, in My Computer I can see for some seconds the icon of the mass storage device (for example "K:"), but If I try to open it on my computer, I have an error like "the device is not ready", or the icon disappear
Thank you very very much in advance.
There are many apps to backup your data, try the below app to backup your apps data, you can later restore it after a factory reset.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.appbackup&feature=search_result
and regarding the voice recording. IF you simply record the voice and play it via any music explorer, then it would be saved in your internal sd and it will be safe after a factory reset.
+1 on bala.....well i had this prblm on my sgs1 and i dint do a backup but simply factory reset an for few weeks the phone was fine but again it started ..but then i flashd the same rom using odin an tht has a fix uptill now....cheerz
Thank bala_gamer and thanks rocky23, but unfortunately it looks like I can't install this app nor neither other app because of two reasons:
1) I can't access to the Google Play Store, because I don't have a desktop shortuit, and if I try to go passing through the apps page Twlauncher crashes and returns to the desktop
2) As I told in the post, phone says "memory almost full" so I can't install other apps
Any other ways of saving this data?
PS: As for the voice recording, good to know that with a factory reset they will probably be safe, thanks!
Since you're not rooted, I can't see any way you can fix this without losing your data.
My daughter is also limited to voice-only stuff, I rooted my SGS1 immediately before I gave it to her and back it up for her daily - not much use to you I know, but rooting/backups are a must, IMO.
She also uses Note Everything - as do I - and it always has survived a factory reset/full wipe for us, data's stored on the sd card, not in the system partition.
You've given all the info anyone could want, hope someone with more knowledge than me can think of a solution.
Good luck - I'll try and think more myself
Edit - not backed up via Google sync by any chance? If not, can you access it via Settings, or does TW crash on you every time?
Thanks also to you B3311.
I've checked with my fried who has the same phone and in fact all the voice recordings are stored in sdcard/audio. I've also found the directory of Note Everything inside sdcard. So, if this files will be kept, most of data that I care will be safe.
I have again some last few question, I give them a number so the post looks more clear.
1) As for Google sync, I have it enabled. On my computer I can see my calendar and my contacts, is there any other thing that Google sync backups?
2) So, apparently the only thing that I can now do is to do a "factory reset".
It is OK to go put the phone in Recovery Mode (Volume Up + Home + Power buttons ) and than select "factory reset"? Is the "factory reset" the same option that "wipe user data", or it is different?
As you can se It is the very first time I do a factory reset (and also that I enter in recovery mode), and I am a little bit worried that something goes wrong.
3) If all the data that is on /sdcard will be kept, so what kind of data I will lose? I suppose Contacts (1) , SMS (2), Calendar data (3), Apps (4) and Phone options (5) will be deleted, but is there any other type data that will be deleted?
Thank you everybody for your patience and your support dealing with this problem!!
please last question
Last question: in this tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499) concerning how to deal with a boot loop (which is not my case) it is said to make a "wipe user data" and than to flash a stock ROM.
Do you think that, in my case, make a factory reset would directly fix the problem, or I also have to flash?
Than you very much!

Very Short Video Explaining Everything!
Hello,
I've found out that when I choose reboot from the recovery mode, I get this error:
E: copy_kernel_file :: Can't open /data/log/recovery_kernel_log.txt
To explain you the problem I have with the phone, I made this very short video:
Having this error, is it safe to select wipe data/factory reset?
I summarize: I have some very important data on the phone, in particular some voice recording and some data took with the app Note Everything that I would really like to save.
What can you suggest me to do?
Thank you very much again.

Hi Sun90 and thanks. Unfortunately KIES keeps telling me "connecting" but does't connect.
You can find all the info in my first post, please see "Some additional information" here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25577449&postcount=1
What can you suggest me to do to save data?
Having the kernel error, if I factory reset is it possible to have even a more serious problem?
Thanks.

To resolve it: From your homescreen click menu, then Settings, Applications, Manage Applications. This screen will have tabs running across the top, click the ALL tab. Then scroll down to LogsProvider, select the app, then Force Stop and Clear Data. After that you should be good to go.

This is the solution.
You might not need to do a factory reset, I just cleared cache partition and it worked.

Phone encryption

Hello All,
I am using a SGS3 with latest CM11 nightly on it. This is a company phone. They are asking now for encrypting my phone. I know there is a possibility under Settings > Security > Encrypt phone. In my opinion it is not working. I did a couple of time the following:
1. I went to Settings > Security > Encrypt phone.
2. To activate the button, I need to plug in the charger, because for the long estimated time.
3. It asked me to protect the phone with a PIN code before starting the process, I give it.
4. When I start the process of encryption I get the drawing of the little Android roboter and that's it.
In my opinion nothing happens. I can close the process with no message, nothing. The only thing what happens is, there is nothing in the notification bar after starting. Has somebody an idea what I do wrong? Now I made a factory reset and it is in the 'show roboter state' now since hours. BTW, I have a 32GB sdcard installed. Does it really take that long?
Please help me. It would be bad, if I need to remove the awesome work of Malag.
Kind regards, Andreas
Sent from my TouchPad using XDA Free mobile app
Phone encryption is not working on many CM 11 devices like SGS3.
You have to read the "Known Issues for i9300" page, therefore I'm one of the few users who keep it constantly updated
Now I don't know if your phone is untouched by this buggy process, but to solve any consequent anomaly you have to do a Titanium Backup of important data (not a Nandroid backup, because it preserve the encryption!) and do a "full wipe".
Yes, a full wipe.
Then reinstall rom and everything you're needed.
