I'm on T-Mobile, but trying to decide between Sprint and Verizon. I really hate Verizon, but all I keep reading online is how horrible Sprint's coverage is. Can you guys let me know how the service is on your new Evo 3Ds? I was planning to make the switch this September, but now I'm not so sure. My T-Mobile coverage is spotty at best and I only get EDGE speeds at work, so it can't be THAT bad. I hope not, at least.
Anyways, your opinions on Verizon and Sprint would greatly help me in trying to decide what to do next. I will NOT be a part of AT&T again and Sprint seems like the best choice. But if they get a flood of new customers, people on other forums are saying it will slow the Sprint network to a crawl (due to Verizon's new tiered data plans) Thanks.
I can assure you that you WILL get better coverage with Sprint. T-Mobile may have faster 3g but Sprints data coverage easily trumps T-mobiles. My sister complained ALL THE TIME in minnesota
Sprint speeds 3g speeds in Southern California are terrible. I put up with 200-300kbps and never really had a problem with it, until I came on here and saw people saying they regularly get 1000kbps
In CT at least.....Sprint coverage is halfway between T-Mobiles & ATT's spotty coverage and Verizon's the best.....For me I keep it for the $ and the good service I get at the local Sprint Store.
Yeah, I guess I shouldn't care as much since my friend's Epic 4G gets some good data speeds at work. I'm just worried about tons of people switching from Verizon and T-Mobile for Sprint and the network getting really bogged down.
Oh yeah and rumors are saying Sprint's getting the next Nexus possibly. Huge plus there and the Evo 3D is pretty bad ass. Checked out the other day and the 3D is pretty legit.
3g in my area has gone to ****. only 3 towers in my city and my verizon phones always get 300-400Kb/s at my house (a known dead zone according to verizon) and - even in a good signal area - the sprint phones are only getting 50-70Kb/s. in a good signal area the verzion phones are getting min 600Kb/s to 1.2Mb/s. even the the bigger city 50 mi away it's the same results.
Sprint 3G is terrible on the 3D...I hate saying it, but it's true. 3G wasn't great with my hero either, however, it wasn't as bad as with the 3D.
That being said, don't get me wrong, I still love the 3D, and hope there will be an update to the radio soon. If not, maybe when 4G hits this part of my area signals will get better.
Sprint data here in baton rouge,la are good.alot better than at&t,tmobile.verizon is good here too.

My 3G and 4G have gone to hell over the past several months. This at my home right outside Phila., PA.
Over an 11 day period my average speed both 3G & 4G (when it'll connect) combined is 657kbps download, 391kbps upload, ping to test server (Comcast Phila.) 120ms.
My signal strength hovers in the -93dbm to -101dbm. Used to be -82dbm to -88dbm when I had much better data rates. Voice has never been a problem.
This is on an EVO 4g, not 3D.
Here in Montgomery, Alabama I'm getting 1 to 1.5 Mbps download speeds on 3g. There is only one 4G tower here, and luckily its a half mile from my job, but I'm getting 4.5 to 7 Mbps download. I would say coverage is very good, and you can't beat Sprint's prices.

I'd honestly stay with tmobile....I just switched to sprint from tmobile and really regret it...the 4g speeds are phenomenal...but the 3vo...(or atleast mines) doesn't hold signal....I'm on my 2nd phone and was basically told by sprint reps that the only option I have is to cancel since I'm still in my 30 day return period. Wtf !?!

Coverage AREA is great, but speeds are pathetic in many areas across the US. Sprint is way behind in tower backhaul or something in these areas.
Well where I live when I was on TMO I only got 1 - 2 bars and edge. Now that I switched to sprint I get 5 - 6 bars with 3G. TMO 3G is way faster, but sprints 3G is stil fast enough for what I need. Hope this helps. Also noticed that TMO allows you full speed DL up to 200 mb, but afterwards past the 200 mb they throttle you. Atleast Sprint doesnt throttle. Just saying.
sprint 3g here sucks, and im finding my phone roaming on verizon more and more. a year ago id rarely ever roam, but now its becoming a daily occurance that i hear that roaming notification tone a few times.
I absolutely love this phone but the 3g speeds are kind if making me want to switch to tmobile and just use the sensation.

As long as nobody else in on the tower your sitting right next to Sprint is fast. I notice a big difference at work when I'm there early or real late versus in the middle of the day. And don't expect the 4G to be that great on the 3vo. I too have connection issues when I'm outside in an area where my OG Evo got great reception. The 3vo seriously needs some radio updates.
A buddy of mine at work has T-mobile. His data blows mine out of the water. I'm talking 3 megs versus 56k. And that's no joke.

Florida, 3g before root and tweak . 0.40-1.9 mbs, thats not bad, cause i thether over 400 mbs download through usb, that's pretty awsome,, the tyrant att will give me a thousand dollar bill by now so i left them... Though the network is not as it used to be on Sprint its still pretty good. the 4g coverage is not perfected yet but It still beat anybody else. Think about it you get thunderbolt and thether you'll be cut short/T-mobile with the new ATT, so run away from all the tyrants and unlimite yourself with sprint...
I switched from TMO and as far as data speeds go, i really regret it. I went from 3-6mbps average to a whopping 150-300kbps.... Love this phone but it needs a radio update ASAP and Sprint has to get off their lazy butts and upgrade their network to handle all the users they are reeling in with their EVO's

My og EVO was getting very similar 3g speed tests as my friends thunderbolt. Now I have occasionally noticed that my 3vo is loading a little bit slower but I'm still getting 1.6 mb/s on 3g often. I'm in the Orem area of Utah.
Meh around Philly
I live about 10 miles NW of Philadelphia and get about 500 in each direction on 3G. This is with the Evo 3D. I really wish Sprint would get it together and up the 4G coverage in my area because I live on the fringe so the switch from 3G to 4G kills me. WHEN i am connected to 4G I get about 2.5mb down and 1.5 up. My wife gets the same speeds on her 3G iPhone(verizon)....
So looks like the ATT Titan is being throttled on ATT according to wpcentral and a bunch of people are reporting no faster data speeds than around 4Mbps. So that means its most likely category 8 HSDPA instead of cat 10. Is there any way to check this or to change the data speeds through the registry or diagnostics mode or what not?
Thanks in advance!

I'll be doing speed tests on my HD2 and I sure hope H doesn't have the same speed as the H+ or "4G" they had to put me on a separate plan for. I guarantee you they'll be upping the prices shortly...
edit: I'm fairly angry: My HD2, running WP7 7440 just got ~4.00mbps, but curiously after several tests I've found myself throttled to 0.87...
Ive gotten up to 6Mbps up and 7.5Mbps down.

I was able to get 5.5 on the titan in a different section of my house, or maybe it was because I used a different server... anyway, I'm a bit happier.
what do you mean ATT put you on a seperate plan for 4G? There is no such thing.
ATT has separated data plans into specifically 3G and 4G. They cost the same at the moment, but they could raise the monthly cost of the 4G data plans, which is probably why they are advertising some phones as 4G that aren't actually 4G...
Do any of you know if my old sim which is labeled 3g from my focus will even allow 4g speeds? I put that old 3g sim into my new HTC Titan and the fastest i've gotten is 3.25Mbps down but I consistently get 2.5-3 though. Even with full bars around 3Mbps down.

The 4G plan is for marketing and data collection purposes, it actually has no effect on what your phone can or cannot do in terms of your data connection.
You can have a "4G" phone and have a regular data plan and your data speeds will be no different than with a 4G data plan.
Giving the same feature multiple names is a common marketing tactic and also helps AT&T get data on how their products are being sold to customers. And yes, it also means on day they could throw extra charges on certain plan types, but so far they have yet to do that.
Kinda like Sprint's extra $10 Premium Data pack they force onto smartphones. All their phones access the same data network, but they just charge you a little more for having a smartphone yet the Premium Data pack really doesn't do a thing at all to change how data is served to a feature phone or a smartphone.

The only phones that use a new SIM card are AT&T's 4G LTE phones. Any 3G phones sold in the past 5 years or so should be using the regular 3G SIM card that works fine with AT&T's "4G" plans/phones. "4G" is nothing more than a marketing tactic for 3G HSPA+.

I don't know about that. All I know is everytime I change my SIM card, my service gets better. I had problems with my Focus staying on 3G. Changed the SIM, smooth as butter. Since they are free, I suggest everyone should change their SIM when they get a new phone.
so is there any way of changing this like you could on the samsung focus through the diagnositics menu?

Yeah, I kind of figured this was the case. I got the idea that they'll charge more from an article, which hypothesized that they intend to charge more eventually, since they actually have branded some newish H phones as 4G (not even H+).

I think this is more about how AT&T manages their network internally, than an issue with the Titan.
When I run Bandwidth to test speed, it picks Seattle as the server because that's geographically nearest to me. In one particular location on the ground floor in my house I get anywhere from 0.5 to ~1.5Mbit. Upstairs I can get 2.5-3.5Mbit.
However, whatismyipaddress.com geolocates me in Sacramento. When I do a speed test to Auburn, CA, I get 3.5-4Mbit downstairs and 5-6Mbit upstairs.
Now... 5-6Mbit ain't setting the world on fire, but at least I know my phone isn't broken, and the device isn't artificially limited to some piss-poor speed. On a class 10 device, 5-6Mbit isn't too bad.
Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help. I have a HTC EVO 3d on Sprint. Whenever I am roaming on another carriers network my data speeds drop considerably (Usually around 125 kbps down) Previously I had a HTC Touch Pro and the data speeds while roaming were fairly comparable to the Sprint network. Can I do anything to my phone to allow for faster data speeds while roaming onto another carrier? Thanks in advance for your help!
Only way to do that is change over to the 00001 or 11115 PRL.

while roaming, your phone switches over to Verizon's network and they only allow 1X data speeds, as opposed to actual 3G...the only way you can get 3G while roaming is switching your PRL over to 11115 or 00001 (i recommend 11115...sprint wont flag you)...i would search around for how to do it
I have a US Lumia 800 RM-819 and I'm on the At&T GoPhone plan on the DUMBPHONE data $50 unlimited everything calls/text/web. It works! BUT it is slow as all hell. Much slower data speeds than when I put that same sim card in any of my other phones. I popped a T-Mobile prepaid card into my Lumia running EDGE speeds and it was way faster than the At&T prepaid plan.
What gives? Is there a specific APN I should be using. I thought the thing with these phones was that they auto-detect the network and self set the APN. Or does GoPhone just suck. When I say slow I mean like 100-150k! My T-Mo prepaid Edge on the same phone gets 700k.
Anyone using GoPhone?
What level of data connection are you getting?
E
or
3G/H
?
Shows H with me just putting the sim card in and no messing with settings.
I'm getting anything from 26k - 1000k. BUT the average speed is closer to 200k which is pretty bad. I rarely get anything higher than that.
I'm at a crossroads here. When I modify the APN my internet browsing speeds increase significantly. I'm talking an average speed of about 2000k with a max of about 3500k. BUT I lose the ability to MMS and my Xbox Live and Market privileges don't work.
How do I fix that with the modified APN? I did the ##634# thing but couldn't see where to edit the MMS settings.
I also have the Network Setup app and can't find where to edit MMS settings either. A little help and guidance from you guys would be awesome.
Thanks.
Hey! I have had a rough winter with money and Sprint kind of dumped me after 7yrs of service with no issues with me paying the bill! Anyway I just got this phone recently and hate for it to be a paper weight or media player only so I wanted to know if I have any options other than the Sprint network? I am not a complete rookie I have it rooted and running Barepop at the moment so any advice, help, or info would be greatly appreciated! I hope I don't make anyone angry by posting here. Thanks!
Well it depends if you are ok with like 3G-4G i use t-mobile prepaid some times I went to walmart and got a sim kit for $35 I got unlimted call text and like 5GB's of LTE. Sadly though you cannot get LTE because the phone does not support the LTE but I get like 15 mps 4G and like 10 mb 3G witch is still faster then sprint's LTE and 3G combined. You will have to flash a GSM rom from the android develoment thread right now there is no GSM unlock on for ZV8. You could also try simple mobile I just recomend you go to walmart and look around the celluar area they have a couple sim kits.

15Mbps is faster than Sprints LTE and 3G combined???
Check out the screenshot and mind you I am not too close to a lte tower. i had like 3 bars when i ran this test.
33Mbps your 15 dont even come close. And since sprint is one of the only carriers to pffer true unlimited date i easyly run over 20 gigs per month without slowing down.
Alls im saying is get your facts straight.
Wow guess your lucky most people complain about getting only like 10 mbps (sprintsucks facebook page)

that's the fastest I've ever seen a Sprint!! around here the fastest sprints I've seen are about 10mbps
Thanks for the info!
I am pretty sure I was getting about 25mbs DL speeds on Sprint here in Savannah but I can live with anything over 2-3mbs. I already have a Cricket account and Sim card but I am trying to figure out the best method to get it working on my G3. Cricket is now on the Att network so signal quality is decent and LTE speeds. Anyone who can give me a little guide to get it working on the Sprint G3 I would be VERY GRATEFUL!
my Galaxy Mega on T Mobile got near 40mbps here

He does have his facts straight what you are showing is Sprint's "Spark" LTE network. Their normal LTE network doesn't go above 12 Mbps even with full bars. You are lucky enough to be in an area where spark is enabled, most places don't have spark network enabled although sprint is rolling it out as fast as possible. Their overall speeds are very dismal (with exception of spark LTE).
