[Q] Regarding Stock and Modded 4.5.91 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now i've been playing around with this all day and I've FINALLY got a good setup on my phone that I am happy with (for the next few hours atleast )
I have always been somewhat wary of RC's, Alpha's, and Beta's, so I kinda wanted to stay on the side for this one to get out of beta.
I have the stock 4.5.91 installed, rooted, and with cwm.
My question is: Can I install this modified version of 4.5.91 over-top of stock 4.5.91 via installing the .zip through CWM Recovery?
I am inclined to tell myself that I can, since I was able to install it via CWM over stock (but themed) 1.8.3

[ROM] FRG83G with Root (Full 2.2.2 ROM) - now compatible with 2.3.3 OTA

I didn't see anyone post this yet, so I thought I could help..
Here's a full 'stock' ROM containing FRG83G (2.2.2). I simply applied the latest OTA to my stock FRG83D and then did a backup of system.img/boot.img, and then created a ROM with my kitchen. You'll need to flash these with a custom recovery image.
USE THIS FIRST ONE ONLY FOR GINGERBREAD UPDATE! READ INFORMATION BELOW REGARDING HBOOT BEFORE YOU UPDATE TO GINGERBREAD!
Stock, unrooted, no modifications (comes with updater-script, compatible with Clockwork Recovery, system and boot untouched!):
http://www.mediafire.com/?kdjis8422y8k6nc
The following ones CANNOT be used for an OTA update:
Stock, with root (comes with updater-script, compatible with latest Clockwork Recovery, boot.img modified):

The following are modifications made to the stock ROM, with update-script:
Rooted, de-odexed, trackball wake: http://www.mediafire.com/?1ftaf6eg30ma81p
Rooted, de-odexed, trackball wake, busybox: http://www.mediafire.com/?90rcduzsbm5bz77
Rooted, de-odexed, trackball wake, busybox, Apps2SD, Cache2SD, zipaligned: http://www.multiupload.com/3VP7Z2YIBS
I'm not going to do any more mods to this, but if you wish to customize this ROM to your liking then use something like my HTC Android Kitchen. To set up, please read the FAQ posted in the kitchen thread.
-----
How to get your device ready for the latest OTA update (a.k.a. Gingerbread)
You'll need the following:
An untouched ROM - which contains odexed system image and an unmodified boot.img (see the unmodified 'Stock' ROM shown above, not the modified ones)!
Flash the latest HBOOT to prepare for Gingerbread update
A stock recovery image (however, if you use Clockwork or Amon_RA you need signature verification turned OFF when it reboots to recovery!)
The actual Gingerbread update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965478
I have attached below the stock recovery image that is used for FRG83G so that you can easily flash the next OTA update (Gingerbread). OTA updating will not work successfully if you did mods like de-odexing or altered/removed the system apps, or wrote to one of the files in the boot.img. Therefore, use only the UNMODIFIED, UNROOTED 'stock' ROM above to perform an OTA, in combination with an eligible recovery image. You can always revert to your desired custom recovery image easily, as long as you have root.
To flash the stock recovery from fastboot (reset N1 while holding down trackball):
1) Go to PC and open an ADB shell
2) Copy recovery.img to the same folder as your ADB session
3) type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Or from a terminal app:
1) Copy flash_image (see attached) to /system/bin using Root Explorer or similar, and set permissions to allow execute
2) Copy recovery.img to your SD card
3) type: su
4) type: flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Hung on Google X
Coming from Geo's completely stock deodexed FRG83D.
Installed the zip file you posted via Custom Recovery.
Upon reboot, my N1 got hung up on the 4-colored Google X.
Tried twice - no go; reinstalled Geo's FRG83D.
Was hoping to get rid of the annoying update reminder.
Guess I will just wait until Gingerbread is officially released.
I've always been stock ROM, but tempted to try CM7...
Thanks anyway.

Sorry about that, I just realized the boot.img was from a later backup of mine, which had some modifications. I have uploaded a fixed version. Please try again if you can.
That worked beautifully!
Thanks! The updated file worked beautifully!
One thing...I thought coming from a deodexed ROM that I would gain some memory back, but it doesn't seem that way - or maybe it was so little I didn't notice it.
Got rid of the annoying update reminder!
Thanks again - this should keep me happy until the Gingerbread ROM is officially out - of course, I will wait until rooted version is released...
Good to know
One disadvantage of the stock/odexed ROM is that themes cannot be applied, nor can you use the trackball wake. You could always de-odex the ROM yourself and flash it so that you can use the themes... and then flash back the stock version when you need to update again (provided that you also flash the stock recovery).
EDIT: I have upload a second version with de-odexing and trackball wake.
if you put busybox as well, then you are going to be our hero, Geo No2..

If you want busybox you can add it yourself with a kitchen or get the latest from the Market.
EDIT: Uploaded it anyway.
million thanks mate..
I spent hours last night looking for a ROM like this. Thanks.

Did you wipe before flashing this ROM? could be that some files were left over from Geo's ROM...
Also, here is how to get rid of that system update nag. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10870198&postcount=1818
Thanks for posting this dsixda. Highly appreciated!
Thanks for posting this. I've decided to go ahead and start making my own, strictly for personal use. I have one question, which could help me along the way.
I used the first ROM you posted here as a starting point, rooted only. How would I go about adding to it, such as the trackball wake? Is that possible with your Kitchen?
Thanks

If you want to add trackball wake then you'll need to deodex with the kitchen first. The trackball wake file (android.policy.jar) can be found in this forum.
Have fun
Thanks. And yes, I've already deodexed, enabled most of the options through the Kitchen, and everything is running perfectly. Just looking to make a few more modifications now.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for this. Just flashed over Geo's rom w/ blackbar plus wildmonks kernel. No problems thus far...

Cool! Did you do a full wipe first?
Nope, just did a backup from rom manager n flashed it from there..went back to clockwork recovery and reflashed geo's frg83d blackbar add-on and wildmonks no720p kernel..

blitz911 thanks for the feedback...
since Geo hasn't released his update yet, I was thinking of flashing the stock update file from recovery, then superuser from recovery as well and fingers crossed everything would go fine.
Now, I think I will do what you did. Nandroid backup first, then flash this ROM and voilla..
@dsixda
Thank you very much, mate. Pretty much appreciated.
Still there's a shadow of sorrow over me: if Gingerbread for our beloved N1 would be close to be deployed, this OTA would have never come out, I'm afraid... sigh!

[Q] Factory reset w/ clockwork

OK I'm pretty noob at this flashing ROM and factory reset thing, so I apologize ahead of time.
I have Vegan GB installed now but wanted to try BOS. I know I need to get to 1.2 to install and as far as I can tell I need to use NVFalash to get to a stock ROM correct?
Can I use CWM to get to a stock ROM or NVflash only?
Would there be a better ROM for me to download? I really use it for multimedia the most (movies, hulu if possible, netflix if possible, and Kindle)
Thanks
I recently moved from 1.1 to 1.2 following roebeet's instructions on SlateDroid. Can't link them here, but it's not too hard to find them. I nvflashed back to stock 3588 and then used standard recovery to flash 4349 stock (just to try it out). From there you can install CWM (not .08, there is a newer version for the 1.2 bl) and flash BOS.
I believe the process is simpler with the latest alpha releases, but check out roebeets HC post on SlateDroid for the most up to date instructions.

From what I have read, and someone can correct me if I am wrong, flash is not yet working with BOS. That's one thing holding me back.
The only Rom I have found that works with Netflix is CM7. I could not find the Netflix app in the market, but simply googled "Netflix APK". Works perfectly.
I was also running Vegan GB up until a few days ago. I miss the locking of app icons along the edges feature, but the video playback and ability to use Netflix has won me over to CM7, which is 1.1 and requires no nvflashing.

[Q] From Gingerblur to 2.3.4 HKTW?

I'm sorry if somebody already posted that, i swear I had a look
I have a SIM unlocked AT&T MB860 Atrix with gingerblur 4.5, and I would like to try some real gingerbread goods, which means bootloader unlock and 2.3.4 HKTW.
Do I have to flash back to 1.8.3 stock sbf before actually unlocking and installing gingerbread? I heard people saying is not safe to flash sbf for SIM-Unlocked Atrix because it can cause Wi-Fi problems, is it still the case?
Second problem: I had my phone rooted, but now I don't have an external micro SD card, so I wouldn't be able to root with gingerbreak-similar methods, is this a deal breaker or there is another way to complete the process all the way through?
Thanks a lot
As a general rule, it's best to flash back to stock before flashing anything else. Because Gingerblur requires Tenfar's recovery to run, I believe this will be the best way to do this. If someone else could chime in about the SIM-unlock/wifi issue, that would be great.
As for the rooting method on 2.3.4 HKTW, it works by installing a ZIP through recovery. In my own experience, it only seems to read external SD cards. If you can make it read the internal somehow, then you should be able to root.
i was on GingerBlur 3.1 (rooted via GladRoot), and did the following over the weekend
- flashed the unlocker SBF (still on 1.8.3)
- flashed the new CWM onto the phone via fastboot
- flashed GingerBlur 4.5 using that CWM, just for a few days
- flashed the 2.3.4 IMG using the Windows x64 guide in the general forum.
ran into no problems, and the GB build was already rooted when it booted up.

Did you clear data or anything like that after flashing?

oh, right, forgot. i did do the fastboot -w beforehand.
i have simunlocked atrix as well, it makes no difference.
I went from Greyblur straight to GB with no issues.
Thanks guys
This is worth a try
If I wanted to return to the stock ROM after flashing 2.3.4, all I have to do is RSDLite flash 1.8.3 back correct and then restore using CWM?

I just did this tonight, and for some reason, I had some problems flashing the 1.8.3 SBF directly. So I downloaded the 1.2.6 (shipping) firmware and just did the updates.

[Q] How to upgrade from Gingerblur to CyanogenMod

So I've been running Gingerblur 4.5 on my Atrix for the better part of 4 months. I haven't been on in a while checking for updates but I see now that CyanogenMod is released.
The way I installed Gingerblur then was flashing this sbf file: OLYFR_U4_1.8.3_SIGNED_OLPSATTSPE_P013_HWolympus_1g_Service1FF.sbf
and then proceeded to root it and get Gingerblur working that way. I don't think I unlocked the bootloader due to Gingerblur not requiring it..
Do I need to re-flash that SBF back onto my phone and proceed from there?
Related question(s):

It's not a do or die thing, I have been happily running Gingerblur but I'd like to use something new.
EDIT:
Obviously the phone is still in Froyo
I'm thinking about flashing back to the stock version and just OTA'ing up to current and then working from there. Any nay' sayers?

plz help a clueless vibrant user with ROM

I am working with a company phone at my bosses request..what he really wants is a rooted phone on Froyo with Clockwork recovery.
This proved to be more of a challenge than I thought (Froyo). I did try to get around the signed update problem in the E3 recovery but wasn't successful.
Finally, I odin'd back to Eclair and installed CWM. It is weird in that I have to reinstall the update package each time to get CWM.
My questions:
1) anyway to get it into CWM directly (each time?; so it defaults to the CWM)
2) re Froyo, I guess the only way is to use CWM to install a Froyo based ROM?
a) If so, any recommends on an almost stock rooted ROM with Exchange email? (would prefer one that had the bloat removed, however; prefer stability to speed)
b) If I flash a Froyo ROM, am I ok in that I don't have to mess with the new bootloader business?
Thanks for the help!
(an Atrix owner out of his element and nervous about the bootloader biz after having previously dealt with the Moto locked bl problems )
You don't need to mess with bootloaders in order to install froyo. If you're on eclair then just put the attached update.zip posted by s15274n on root of your internal sdcard. Do not rename it or anything. Get into recovery, reinstall packages TWICE and you'll have your recovery then flash any froyo rom you want. Yes, it is that simple. There are few latest ones posted by Jellette and fishman0919 in development section. For example this one ...
