I recently went from 351 to 354 official att rom. Some of the apps i had on 351 can't be installed on 354. It says my device is not compatible now. Any ideas?
I just recently read in one of the threads about editing the build.prop file to trick the market into thinking you were on the old build. I think it was the ro.build.fingerprint line. It may have been in the Simple Streak thread or the Play-Doh Rom thread.
Well...
351 and 354 aren't AT&T ROMs. 351 is the latest ROM for US Streaks. 354 is the latest ROM for Asian Streaks.
In my opinion, you gain virtually nothing by going to 354, so go back to 351.

My bad. Still learning about the ROMs. For me 354 has been more responsive than 351. Battery life is great to. And I didn't have to deal with removing any bloatware. Only had to remove dell stage.
There are those who prefer 354 to 351.
What you probably need to change is the fingerprint in build.prop. To do this your phone has to be rooted.
Search here in the forums or you can DL the update.zip file for the roms from here and then unzip and compare the build.prop files from the two roms.
The update.zip files are useful for a lot of things, such as restoring system apps you deleted and want back.

I should have added that I don't understand that preference and that I have not gotten any reason other than "it's newer' or 'it works better for me'. Can't pin down what makes other think it is better other than 'feel'.
I recall you saying that. Part of the reason for the smiley.
For the OP, he claims better battery life and ease of customization. He doesn't have to remove anything except for Stage, because there's apparently no bloatware in 354. So customizing 354 is quicker, but that doesn't automatically make 354 better than 351.
I make it rather simple for myself. I don't put any ROM on my Streak unless it has 00 at the end. The exception will be StreakDroid, if I feel I need it for whatever reason, and if as expected Dell doesn't release Gingerbread for the Streak.

i looking to install StreakDroid 1.6.0 for the increase in performance but have a question i can't seem to find an answer to.
my question is that in the post here at XDA it's recommended to update the BASEBAND, do i really have to and if so how do i do that. i haven't been able to found how to. i didn't post in said thread cause all the post are praise, racommendations, and far more complicated questions then mine and didn't want to take focus away from those posts.
any help would be appreciated.
i'm running a U.S. AT&T locked streak it's been rooted
running O2 2.2
Kernel Ver. 2.6.32.9-perf
Build Num. 12792
basband ver. GAUSB1A131921
Not sure if you have to with the version you have but I wouldn't at least suggest use qdl and the official update url to get the latest US release. Then update to 1.6.0. I know for a fact that from official 2.2 build 318 you don't have to update the baseband any further.

I've heard of qdl but have no ideahow to get it or even use it (I tried to find it but couldn't)

Google streakdroid and go to the main site. From there go to guides and you will find video guides on how to download and use QDLtool. As for changing the baseband I strongly suggest doing it so that your phone will be unlocked.

Changing baseband doesnt mean your phone is unlocked. To unlock the phone you need to input a code.
captaingohan, baseband in mentioned in the official streakdroid 1.6.0 thread. Read the thread, it will help with any problems.

Well I meant he should change it and install the unlocked firmware. But he was going to install DJ_Steve so whatever sorry for the confusion.
don't care about phone being lock or not just wanted to know if i really have to update baseband
read the thread. it has the info you need.
just installed streakdriod 1.6 from O2 2.2 without updating the baseband eveything seems to be working fine. and got my quadrant score from 833 to 1550 now phone runs much smother
I had some trouble doing it but I started by switching to 1.5.3 and then 1.6.1 clockworks mod has to work. Phone is much faster now was 844 on quadrant now 2178 just from the swith from 2.2 to 1.6.1
wow i only got 1550 how did you get 2178
lol didn't see theres a 1.6.1. updateing noe
sweet, just did it. Now on 1.6.1 and running at 1955

Sweet it is nice. No issues so far
started getting "Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly ( and then force closing )" some posts suggested doing a factory reset. i did that and now my phone gets stuck on the streakdroid splash screen. tried re-installing 1.6.1 and it stays stuck on the splash screen. i've tried to go back to o2 2.2 and when i try to update either it says to get the update.pkg (witch i have on my card) or it'll just stay blank
and ofcourse as soon as i post this it starts workin. i guess the 8th factory re-set is the charm
I only get those when I run quadrant and sometimes I have to clear data to get it to run. Also if I start pushing buttons when it first wakes it goes slow and I have to wait a few secs to let it catch up. But other than that its all good.
streakdroid 1.6.0 update problem
im having trouble with probably one of the simplest processes for the 1.6.0 update. im very new to modding and used qdl to update to froyo. When trying to update to streakdroid 1.6.0, im kinda lost on what steps to take to flash streakmod. There's a video from unlockr that instructs on loading custom roms. When it talks about flashing recovery it tells you to click on "install recovery.windows.bat". For streakmod there's only a recovery image file (not sure, but i think this means i need to cmd) if so, ive never done this process and would love for someone to post a "cmd for dummies" walkthough.
Im running the qdl official update (31800) version of froyo. Also, for someone who's new to the Modding scene, will i even notice a difference btw 2.2 and streakdroid 1.6? Is it worth the update?
Also. Do i need to update my baseband?
Look for the streakmod recovery forum in the streak development forum. It will have the download and install instructions for the streakmod recovery. Once that is installed then go to the streakdroid forum. Download and follow the install instructions. You do not have to flash your baseband. If you follow those two threads you should be able to get it all installed. Also check out the tutorials at streakdroid.com and streaksmart.com

When I went from 315 to 318 all I did was download the update.pkg ( in androids stock browser)from dell and android installed it and all my data stayed intact. Now my question is will that method work if I want to go to 345?
http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=9441
what is the benefit of going to 345 from 318?
Sorry to be such a noob! but what is the benefit of of going to 345 from 318?
If you use the stage ui it has updates in 345 which most people say make it better. I don't use stage.
The android version is 2.2.2 so you will benefit from any bugfixes to android.
It actually runs very smooth and stable. The quadrant scores aren't as good as a custom rom or 318 with the performance fix, but in real world use it works very well IMO.
The biggest drawback, to me, is that nandroid backups using streak droid or clockwork mod do not work.
If you are on a ROM that nandroid backups work It is easy to revert if you don't like 345 using your backup.
fully agree with marvino2's comments....only i went from 319 to 345....not had a single problem...its really slick....and like marvin....i dont use the new Stage UI but only because of the landscape overlap...otherwise i would. easy to root but had to install busybox from the market..
and as stated (just like in my 319) no fix for nandroid backup yet...but not a big issue as titanium did all the hard work for me!
Did you guys receive the market update after installing 345?

Yeah - I went back and forth between 345 and Streakdroid 1.9.1 a couple of times, so I have installed 345 a total of three times.
The first and last time I got the market update right away - used the market once and when I went back the second time it was updated.
The second install it took a while for the market to update itself.

I can confirm that I am able to do nandroid backup for 345. Before I can't, nandroid kept sticking on backing up firstboot, what I did was reformatted my sdcard, made a nandroid backup of 1.9.0 first, reinstalled 345 2.2.2, set up google acct, installed all my apps, after I finished setting up my streak, tried to do a nandroid backup of 345, and it worked, I have done 3 backups and all worked. Hope the same thing will for otherd.

I'd like to hear the answers from the question the op asked, can the update be run from android itself as I just did with the 318 update?
Are there any known bugs with 345 and does it run faster than 318 without the performance tweaks?
Also, any apparent changes in the battery life for 345? And can it be rooted with superoneclick as I did with 315 and will be doing with 318?
Thanks!

I haven't found any bugs yet. Speed as determined by Quadrant scores is almost the same as stock 318, but it just seems to work smoother and have less glitches.

Hi everyone,
I've decided to take the plunge and flash Gingerstreak to my Steak 5. I've taken the cautious approach and decided to read the instructions, which I'm pretty confident that I understand.
The main step I'm having a problem with is
YOU MUST FLASH THE BELOW BASEBAND AND DSP1 IMAGES TO ALLOW THIS BUILD TO WORK CORRECTLY!!

Will flashing them change my baseband? The reason that I'm asking is that I have a British streak and I don't really want to completely **** the radio. My current baseband is GAUSB1A131921, has anyone had any experience with flashing over the radio? Will i still get UK signal/data connectivity?
Many Thanks
Tom
Regardless of which Gingerbread ROM you install, flashing the AMSS and DSP files will change the baseband. The baseband is like a computer BIOS in that it provides basic control to the radios. It has nothing to do with your carrier and does not inhibit the ability of the Streak to pick up your carrier's signal.
Just for reassurance if you need it, I'm a UK Streak user and you'll be fine.
If anything you may well find better signal strength with this baseband - not guaranteed but certainly possible.
Thanks guys, I went ahead with it and all seems fine.
Cheers again
Tom

I have seen some of your answers in some of the posts here that shows you do have good knowledge about. I have a post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401440 here in this forum, but so far no answer, pretty strange. Care to take a shot and help out? Thanks
Hi,
I've been reading around but am not satisfied with the answers given regarding this question. I've a 2nd locked Dell Streak begging for a taste of GB but I recall having read all manner of things "back in the day" about requiring a rebelsim to change recoveries etc, but can't find that info now for a definitive answer.
I want to move from o2's stock. Can I just fastboot flash the 407 recovery and update.pkg it, or are there more steps due to the fact it's locked?
Thanks in advance.

Please, don't all jump at once...

as far as im aware you would have to use fastboot , and flash the recovery, then the update.pkg, theres lots of threads and guides on here telling you how to do this, also check the wiki lots of good info there too
I saw those, but there was nothing - for me - specific to o2.
The biggest issue for me is remembering reading a requirement for a rebelsim or goldcard?
Or... am I confusing this with another device? :-/
I have read the wiki a few times while learning about Modding my unlocked phone. The locked one is new to me though.

The fact that its locked just means you can only use your o2 SIM. I don't think it has anything to do with your ROM. You just flash the amss and then the dsp1 files, flash recovery and then flash the stock package. From there you can move to custom ROMs for GB. There is still no guarantee the GB ROM will recognize your SIM... simple as that
The radio files should be included in the update package... at least it seemed to flash them when I went from 351 to 407 on my unlocked streak.
Everything else though: spot on, thanks! I will give it a go and hope for the best

as to the flashing i have done gingerstreak 244 and dsp amass streak mod recovery i didnt do a normal recovery upgrade first though so not sure if i did it right still have to look into this but it works
you deffo dont have to unlock it as mines is still o2 and im running gingerbread dsc rom, just make sure you flash the required amss and dsp1 file then recovery and rom you should be set to go
If I recall correctly, all a RebelSIM does is allow SIM cards from any carrier to be used in the device without having the device's unlock code. Thus using a RebelSIM should not affect the ability to flash ROMs. My Aria and my roommate's Inspire are both SIM locked to AT&T, yet both have custom ROMs (Cyanogenmod for the Aria, Android Revolution HD for the Inspire).
SORRY

407 requires either 350 or 407 recoveries

Bayton, it shouldn't matter that you're on o2 but you can always e-mail o2 and they will send you an unlock code for free - I did it myself. There is a page on the o2 website where you can fill in a unlock code request. If they refuse the code tell them they must have made a mistake and that you know someone who's had theirs unlocked. This happened to me and then they sent the code.
Cheers.
I have an old streakdroid ROM atm and it sucks. Crashes all the time. I was looking at the wiki and a **** ton of ROM versions exist.
It seems from what I have read the the newer ROMs and versions of android actually run faster. Is this true?
What is the best ROM out now and what should I be concerned with? Will my device get banned from the Google Market? (Who cares I can update/install apps manually)
It has been a while since I have flashed. I downloaded the newest rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355878 but I do not see an update.pkg to update.
I know I should do a factory reset before reflashing but I have also heard that flashing from old versions causes problems.
Right now I am running 2.2.2 Android with the 2.6.32.9 DJ_Steve Kernel.
StreakDroid5 v1.9.4
I can put in the work but it seems some things have changed and I just want some direction before I spend the next week reading thread after thread to catch up to what is going on.
What ROM should I use with what mods?

You still have ALOT of reading to do, come back in a several days...
Most of us now are running a gingerbread variant but it has it bugs obviously so I'm begging with to not flash any of these until you have done a lot of reading so you won't be posting senseless threads on your problems... each ROM has it's issues very clearly in it's own threads by the devs so don't create a new thread with an old problem... I can't tell you which is the best because they are all pretty good, the best is up to you
I suggest [ROM] [INTL] [WIP] DSC v0.73
This is probably the best ROM out now. But you no longer update via an update.pkg - its been awhile You will need to install streakmod via fastboot then boot into streakmod to select your dsc.zip update. There are lots of details on how to do this on the DELL STREAK forum.
I wouldn't go with the just out cyogenmod ports - they are bugging and still a major work in progress.
Course this is my opinion but I have installed them all ...many times
