Wi-Fi Problem on Vodafone Galaxy S2. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My fiancee has a Samsung Galaxy S2 on Vodafone UK, and she is having a problem with the Wi-Fi, it is set up to connect to our Home Wi-Fi network, and this works ok. However, when she leaves the house for a period of time (a couple of days), when she comes back she has to manually "Forget" and re-connect to the network for it to work ok?
The software version is:
Model No
GT-I9100
Android Version
2.3.3
Baseband
I9100BUKE1
Kernel
2.6.35.7-I9100BUKE1-CL182896 [email protected]#2
Build No
GINGERBREAD.BUKE1
Any ideas what could be causing this? And anyway we could fix it?
Thanks
Stew

Never let her leave the house ? Joking, i never had this issue, neither on KE1, nor on KE5 firmware and i am on Vodafone too, Romania though. Why don't you try updating your firmware to KE5 ? I think that one is available through Kies for Vodafone UK too.

Thanks for the reply.
Sorry, but I don't know what Kies is? I am an HTC Desire man at the moment and have never delved into Samsung Phone territory.
Her phone is not rooted and she doesn't have any desire to root it!
Thanks again!

You don't need to root the phone. Just go to www.samsung.com and download/install Kies on your PC. Kies is a Samsung app that lets you synchronize your phone with your pc through usb cable. Once you do that, Kies will let you know that there's a firmware update for your phone. Just follow the procedure and install the new firmware. Apps and data don't get deleted, so it's safe to update your phone. No risk of losing warranty either as it is official Samsung firmware.

[Q] Kies Mini has a new version???

I'm running JI6 which I got through Kies mini 2 months ago.
Now, I just clicked the KMini icon on my laptop and it says it's D/Ling a new version.
The old version was1.0.0.? something something? ...95
this new version is : 1.0.0.10104_1
What is up with this? Does this mean there is an update to my Vibrant or to the kies software itself? It says to plug in my phone but I'm hoping for advice first.
What happens if I do plug it in?
Thanks guys.
That was simply an update to Kies Mini and it could mean anything from a bug fix in the Kies software to getting it ready for pushing new updates. I noticed this update a little while before JK6 was leaked.

Where did you download kies mini from. When I go to samsungs site to download kies mini, it asks which model number vibrant I have, there are like 4 vibrant models to choose from. What do we in USA on T-Mobile use?
its not that new, been there for at least 45 days
Okay, thanks guys. Any idea what happens if I plug my phone into it again? Like, how big will the explosion be?

SV, I linked to it from here at XDA. I think it was in the Tips & Tricks sticky. It worked great for me. (This was after the OTA update wiped me out & I went & got a new phone...) But now, I don't see it there anymore. I have both kies and kies mini. They both worked fine for me; mini for the JI6 and regular kies for all kinds of other stuff.
Here's the link to the big kies I used if anyone wants it...
http://www.all-samsungphones.com/samsung-vibrant-t959-kies-and-pc-sync-download.html/
It seemed to work well. But the xda thread said to uninstall it before installing mini, so I did. Might reinstall... Big program though...

I can't upgrade tab using Kies

I can't get Kies to upgrade my tab. My tab is recognised but when I am connected to it, it says "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies."

Mine did the same. Once. Cannot connect to Kies since then, just by wifi. If I want to connect by USB, it says "Unsupported connection mode alert - Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode."
But this mode is not in my tab, I read others have Kies mode in the menu, but some versions doesn't. I spent already hours with that horrible Kies application...
Seems like we have now other, much better methods of updates - just causing the loss of warranty...
I get the same error from kies.

The KIES update doesn't work for me. Sorry I did not try to update mine from CWM yet, because it had issues with the screen turning on sometimes. I was waiting for 2 months what the customer service will say about the problems and updates. I explained them also the KIES update problem. Finally seams like my Internet/GSM provider's technical support don't know anything about the SIM locked devices they sell, not even at the beginners level, so said my device is probably wrong and to take into the service - last week. I am pretty sure not about it is not wrong, just the old ROM, and have some bad apps already removed.
So soon I will ROOT and update mine from CWM as I will have time. I want to forget the hopeless KIES... I use Linux all on my computers, just have a windows for these cases

While it is definitely your choice on whether or not to void the warranty on your devices, if you do the appropriate amount of reading about nvflash, fastboot and bootloaders, you can pretty much consider this device unbrickable, and if you ever needed to, you can load the software back onto the tablet that makes it so your warranty was never voided... at least in sammy's eyes

Thanks! I'm a little bit afraid about my telecom provider has a special localized ROM/firmware version, which I can't find on the internet and can't download. I have to do a system backup somehow, and when needed to restore and unroot in the worst case, but I don't have any experience yet with the tab. So good to know that it is unbrickable, thanks again!

Does your phone connect normally via USB to the computer ? completely uninstall and re-install via a fresh download of KIES. Clear your Temp, %Temp% and prefetch folders. Check if the cable is faulty or not. One of these is bound to help you.
I have tried reinstalling keis and done everything i can think of but nothing seems to help. Before the update of kies my phone used to be able to connect via usb like normal ever since the update its all gone to pot

First of all, I must say that KIES is one of the worst pieces of software I have ever seen. It is buggy and you must hope it will work eventually.
I got one successful with my old phone (galaxy 551) after updating via ODIN first to the correct firmware for my country.
But with my current Galaxy S2 I had to go to the repair center who used ODIN to get the right version on my phone.
I now have made KIES work on my windows 7 machine. I had to install the UK version (not the country version) and used the connection problem wizard to reinstall the drivers. Now it says I have the current version of my firmware.
To go back to your problem. It would help if you post which OS you are on and which version of the firmware you have currently installed ?
Also have you USB error detection off in the settings of your Galaxy S2 ?

Personally I wouldn't be concerned kies isn't really useful, plenty of threads on here about kies messing phones up. There's nothing you can't do yourself without the need of kies. You've already tried everything I can think of. Does kies itself require updating?

nope it does not need an update and i really would like to stay away from odin
Bro don't fear Odin, embrace it. Latest updates sooner, avoid bloatware and no root needed. Never had a problem with it, in fact it saved my phone several times as I'm a flash-a-holic

[Q] My son flashed i9100 (International GS2) firmware to my SGH-D710 (Sprint E4GT)

My Sprint Epic 4G Touch (SGH-D710 Galaxy S2) was rooted and my son wanted to upgrade it to JB from ICS for me. He was not paying attention and flashed the firmware from the i9100 international GS2 to my phone instead of the firmware for the D710 and now it is stuck at a screen with the Android Guy in the middle. It says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-i9100
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!
Now my phone is a paperweight (really kinda old and not much more than that anyways, even when it was working). The computer will not recognize it when I plug it in, ODIN doesn't see it either. I have read that this is because the i9100 firmware has disabled the usb port and that it will have to be JTAG'd to fix it? Using a "pinout"? Both of these are above my head. I had originally rooted it without incident but he flashed the wrong firmware to it and now I have no idea how to fix it. It is far beyond any warranty work, any ideas?
Update
I have used 2 different computers, a netbook running Windows 7 and a laptop running Windows 8. I have access to a Mac but it is limited. I am using the stock usb cable that came with the phone, it is all original except for the firmware, even has the original battery. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the usb drivers for the phone, updated Samsung kies and have tried SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED-OneClick with no luck. I have tried running everything in "Run as administrator" mode, again with no luck.
Please let me know if I missed anything.

if you dont have a jtag yourself you would have to send it into a jtag service which can be around 50$ for something that takes like 5min. they overcharge it waay to much it should be 10$ greedy buggers.
