Straight from HTC's Facebook page we have a general time line now looks like August September
How do you guys feel about it ?
HTC
Devs, we’re making lots of progress on unlocking bootloaders: Today we can confirm the HTC Sensation and HTC EVO 3D will be supported! See out note for more info:
Update on Bootloaders
Thanks so much for providing feedback, we hear your concerns. Your satisfaction is a top priority for us and we're working hard to ensure you have great experiences with our phones. We're reviewing the issue and our policy around bootloaders and will provide more information soon. Thank you for your interest, support and willingness to share your feedback. **UPDATE** We’ve listened. Check out the statement from our CEO, Peter Chou on HTC bootloaders. Click the link for more info. http://on.fb.me/iZXgkR **UPDATE 7/10** <!-- p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 48.0px; font: 15.0px Calibri} --> We wanted to provide an update on HTC’s progress with bringing bootloader unlocking to our newest phones. We know how excited some of you are for this capability, and we’ve put significant resources behind making this change as soon as possible. While we wish we could flip a simple switch and unlock all bootloaders across our device portfolio, this is actually a complex challenge that requires a new software build and extensive testing to deliver the best possible customer experience. We’re thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments. HTC continues its commitment to unlocking bootloaders and supporting the developer community. Because of the importance of this community to us, please expect an update on this about every few weeks as we make progress toward launch. Thank you for your patience and continued support!

Which makes sense, does it not? I think it does.
I'm more than happy with the phone, it is a very nice piece of hardware without without root capabilities.... Sprint's network on the other hand..............
I can play around with sense for 2 more months.

IThe 3D is a pretty awesome phone as-is. So 2 months wont kill me. I had hoped it would be a lot sooner tho. I will still be checking here daily to see if anyone beats them to it.
At least they are actually doing it, I'm sure Sprint isn't the most excited. Props 2 them usually huge corporations could care less about stuff like this.

That's great news!
Wow I really like that. However I just wanted to say this one thing. Thanks to all the DEV's working hard at the unlock. They have my respect. Plus well see with HTC. I hope the devs can steal the glory.
Yeah Forget HTC the idiots already know how to unlock it because they are the fools that locked it, Power to the DEVS!

As long as it is done before end of July. If not will likely return for the Sprint Galaxy S2. Think there should be an announcement from both Sprint and Samsung in the next few weeks with more details.
Bit would much rather keep my 3VO, with a ROM cooked up by Myn

My guess is now that it has been made legit, even if the the OTA has no ETA everything will be AOK because some HTC QA tester will leak some keys to the locked bootloader to XDA on the DL ASAP.
The phone is smoking fast and sense 3.0 is great so I don't care how long it takes.....as long as it gets unlocked i'll be happy

Great news!
Yes this is great hopefully everyone will keep the bootloader htc emails in here and out of the dev section.
btw this was noted in the xHausx thread by me when I asked them why they didn't just toss it up on their site like xhausx suggested.
Their response(2days ago) was thats not how they want to do it and they are currently still developing the software to do such in a software update.
btw nice work, at least attempt at making a big stride in your thread in the Dev section. Nice to see people trying stuff!

Oh i agree. keep it going till its officially done and out for everyone.
If you accept an OTA to unlock the 3VO's bootloader, is it possible that Sprint can somehow disable wireless tethering even on a rooted device? I would think that they know what's up; everyone with a rooted device doesn't have to pay $30 for hotspot.

NS4G doesn't have to pay $30 for hotspot...AND the phone comes unlockable out of the box.
I doubt Sprint cares that much....we are a relatively small minority of their total accounts and we are going to find a way to tether for free regardless of if we get unlocked or not.
Also isn't Sprint the only company that doesn't censor tether apps from the market? I'm pretty sure they also have an official 'non-anti-tether' stance.
...and that's to say nothing of the fact that we pay for our data service and who cares where our bits come from and go to? We pay for the transport of said bits...the contents, origination and destination should really be irrelevant.
Besides, I can saturate my wireless connection with pandora or a couple of downloads on my phone just as easily as I could by hooking it up to a computer.
EDIT: Either way, I don't think they could possibly prevent tethering without throwing multiple monkey wrenches into the works.
When i went to look at the phone the otherday on the 24th my sprint guy that i always deal with said u know they r unlocking the bootloader in 60 days right? An i was like no i thought it would already be unlocked he said he read somewhere 60 days to try an get ppl to stay with it
Now idk if this is true or not by the way this guy didnt know a thing on how to root untill i showed him now he flashes roms like crazy lol
Dear Adam,
I know how important it is to have the bootloader unlocked on the EVO 3D. Thank you for registering your feedback in regards to HTC’s latest statement on bootloader policy. While the statement notes that locked bootloaders will not be occurring on future devices, the official policy is still being reviewed as it pertains to existing devices. The EVO 3D was already far into production process when this statement was released.

Everyone already knew this. I was to deduce this as well. The question, WHEN/IF HTC releases an OTA to unlock the BL.
Who cares, HTC doesn't have ONE SINGLE employee working for the "Love of the game" XDA has all the talent!
We'll get it, while they're all sniffing eachothers asses, counting their money. XDA users will be flashing custom ROMs and Recoverys

Well that's good. But wouldn't a locked down bootloader pose many risks? I guess I'll just wait and see. I wish I can sync my wiimote to my phone.
How is this even hopeless? You do realize the statement was made after production started on EVO3d...you also understand a patch can easily reverse this...at ANY point in time???
The only thing hopeless is how you feel, not, exactly how HTC feels about unlocking the bootloader of the EVO 3d.
Just take a wait and see approach. The announcement was just that, the announcement. YMMV but in any case, it's not the end of the EVO3d's story.
There has been no evidence that HTC plans to ever unlock the EVO 3D bootloader. Our money is already in their pocket. They mentioned they would not lock future devices but people have already bought the EVO 3D. I just see them keep with these generic statements.
People act like they care so much but people have stopped posting on their facebook, they have stopped with the petitions, etc... If people decided to continue pestering them about this issue like when it was first announced that the bootloader was locked, HTC would actually listen. People stopped caring about this issue and HTC can see it.
I know its been done before, but I emailed HTC about any possibilities to an ICS update for the jetstream. Since XDA reported that Samsungs galaxy tabs are getting their ICS updates, its upsetting that such a beastly, functional, and not to mention expensive device like the jetstream goes with little/no support and no update to ICS.
Perhaps the small userbase in these forums could also send an email asking or requesting yoru concern for an update be forwarded to the right department(wishful thinking).
-------> http://www.htc.com/us/support/email-support
What a bummer.
I feel like if the Jetstream got ICS, it would expand the life of the device a ton.
I agree. I've spoke with HTC via email and phone to ask them about this. It's always the same response, that they can't provide any info on this presently.
Also, Paul O'Brien (@modaco) was at a 2-day HTC event recently, and he said he'd ask them about it, but I haven't seen what came of this yet.

I too wrote an email to them and they replied they had no idea and as it was under AT&T, we were to contact them for further details.
Anyways, I just hope that HTC will support the device for 18 months as they promised (meaning which they may release ICS sometime later on) and I agree that if it does come it will be late but I still feel it will be worth the wait.
In the meanwhile, all we can do is wait with our fingers crossed.

ATT's responsibility?
ATT is not the ones programming HTC phones. Sounds like a tactic to get customers to go away, blame ATT.
I'd say at this point with the Jetstream's lack of popularity, price drop, etc, HTC probably feels like the time it would take for an ICS update would be a waste of time money and resources. I hope this is not the case.
Its frustrating when you put your faith and money in a company and their product and other companies are dishing out updates.

Ya they just plan on pushing from HTC to AT&T and vice versa.
HTC should not just leave us to die with the device. If they find the popularity low, by bringing ICS out for this device, they could really increase its popularity manifold.
Let us also not forget that Flyer got an update for its software only after a year of its release. So let us just hope that HTC keeps its promise for supportive its devices for 18months after release and does something concrete for us.
In the meanwhile, we must hope and wait. S-OFF also globatron has done some really nice method for other HTC devices using wire link method. It may be viable for the Jetstream as well. Let's just wait and see.

Just kind of sucks she has this awesome phone ..and no Roms ...I feel like I should revert her to stock..my galaxy nexus on the other hand the developers are spitting Roms out their anus..lol..just sucks I guess.

There's a bunch of devs still actively making roms for this phone, what are you talking about?
The ones that have left either have gotten frustrated with the users or moved on to newer/different phones.
The GNex is going to have a crapload cause it's an open phone running pure Android, this phone has the added challenge of being a Sense based phone.
don't expect daily rom updates here. won't happen until nightlies are started.

Phone has the added challenge of being an HTC phone with both a locked bootloader shipped *and* a Security On / Off flag to protect the rest of memory, and hardly any decent support from HTC on getting ICS let alone JellyBean in a timely fashion.
Different issues deterred developers in each part of the phone's life cycle thus far:
Early life: Bootloader remained locked for a good while leading up to the Nexus launch. Everybody that looked at the phone for most of the pre-Nexus window saw there wasn't anything that could be done. That deterred the majority of devs back then.
Mid-life:Security off is what devs usually achieve first on any HTC device... but HTC made it hard for developers to find an S-off method for that whole 2011 generation of phones. HTC got a bunch of outcries before they said "fine, here is HTCDev.com, now you can Unlock the bootloader and tinker around with ROMs, just stay away from the radios and all that, mmmkay?" It was a half-won battle.
Then, we didn't have S-off for months. Traditionally, S-off is what the "common" dude on the street understands as the key to developing on an HTC phone. That gives access to flash anything anywhere, unlike the Unlocked bootloader. A handful of devs just looked at that and thought "oh, S-on still, can't do *anything* for the phone." And moved on.
Current stage of life:The devs that are still on-board realize all this, but there are few other devs who came here in the first place to help out. Oh, and of course the serious delay of ICS. Second half of the year, 3rd Quarter release date rather than 1st Quarter as HTC said at launch. Without timely manufacturer source code, it is hard to work on an new OS.
I was referring to current state but that is a great summary of the history of development on this phone.
Now we are unlocked and s-off, the latest hurdle now is the delay of the ICS kernel source (due to the delay with the ICS updates) and of course a non Sense RIL.
Still there's some nice roms being put out for this phone in the mean time.
I am making ROMs. Don't hate.
Lol not hating I love the work and don't expect daily updates just found it weird some Roms haven't had updates in months . I see the few that do pure ICS which is nice but I was looking to keep sense 4 its pretty nice . I might want to try to dive into ROM developing myself but I was just wondering if there was a reason for the sense Roms stopping Dev work well the most popular ones I see .

Developers tend to move on to the newest phone/gadget to obviously have a better device themselves but also to make money. The newest and greatest phones have the most users therefore the most to be gained from developing for them both for the user and the developer.
i am currently learning about Rom Creation along with a couple more people which include cslingerland. i am in the basics right now but i am proof of a (hopefully) future developer for the Rezound.
I'm interested lol

So been honestly thinking if JB takes til next yr which is pretty much when the new HTC will come out to get to the EVO this will be my last HTC device, I really love HTC and have been with them since the touch pro. Howeva the build quality has seemed to go up immensely. And yet the software quality has dropped. I can honestly say that I have had progressively more n more trouble out of the phones from the OG EVO up. Not to mention how we have to wait so long to get a update. Especially when that update was known and out on a few devices b4 our were released, then they can't tell us if or when we will get it. I mean really even phones released after ours have been verified to be getting it and yet we wait. I'm sry but I have bought my phones off contract and if I'm spending $850 plus for a device I don't want it to be obsolete the day I get it. Some people will argue that ics is not obsolete. But look how long its been out. And key lime pie is Otw. So we are almost 2 os's behind. And they get to select who gets upgrades and when? Didn't I pay them? If HTC don't pick it up I'm afraid my next phone will be the galaxy s4 anyone else feel this way or not chime in I wanna hear thoughts on this situation!

I'm honestly not sure this has much to do with HTC. They intend on getting other One X variants JB at some time this month, which could be a positive sign for the EVO LTE, but it all lies in Sprint's hands, ultimately. That's who you should be pointing your finger at.
I agree totally. With HTC's recent earnings miss, I don't see why they can't see their current "support model" isn't working. If it weren't for the dev's here, I'd be even more pissed. HTC needs to embrace the developers as opposed to working against them by not actively releasing updates for a product that they sold me on. I've stuck with HTC devices since my old HTC Mogul but I'm starting to feel the same way. HTC needs to get their **** together or they'll lose a community of people that have helped keep them relevant over the past 5-7 years.

I'm honestly not sure this has much to do with HTC. They intend on getting other One X variants JB at some time this month, which could be a positive sign for the EVO LTE, but it all lies in Sprint's hands, ultimately. That's who you should be pointing your finger at.

Everyone says sprint sprint sprint but is it not the manufacturer's that say what device they wanna tweak the os for? Besides if it was sprint that was delaying it why would the s3 already be confirmed to be getting the jelly bean update? HTC says they don't know if they will be updating it. And Idt sprint would hurt their own pockets like that. 2 have 2 flagship phones on the latest os faster and far less problems they would/should be jizzin in their pants for that chance.

Sprint can't work on getting updates out if HTC hasn't given them anything to work with. I point my finger at both of them. A phone that's behind in updates on a network that's behind can destroy what little patience people have left.

U hit the nail on the head! Totally agree 1000%
I payed more for my phone than I did my laptop or tablet. Yet they get updates damn near everyday. And if android is open source I should be ableto get the updates on anyphone that runs Android as long as the specs are up to par for free correct. Just like linux. So y do they get to choose what we get so they can make money. I mean we do it here. So y can't they. Lol sry just rantin clearin my chest.
Me and the wife love HTC but we both agreed that even though we dislike the build quality of Samsung it may be our next phone just because things get updated and fixed a lot more frequently. Besides our phones stay deep inside great looking cases so how much does build quality mean to us anyway.

The update comes from HTC pending a request from Sprint. If Sprint doesn't request it, it will never come. Once Sprint receives it, they add all of their bloat and send it for testing. After that, you already know what happens.
Either way, I am hoping for an HTC Nexus device based on all these multi-OEM Nexus rumors.

Point taken. Bottom line is that "we" the customer, gets screwed. I would find it hard to believe that HTC and Sprint both "don't know" what people want. HTC makes great phones and the developers help us love them. Developers maximize the potential of our devices but if they're not getting what they need, it's a moot point and I'll probably leave Sprint and HTC altogether when I'm due for an upgrade. I'm sure I'm not the only one either. Patience only goes so far.
Not to mention still can't have caller id tones since last update n they can't fix that. Bs and I don't wanna switch roms cuz something always never works in roms.
have to admit if it wasn't for custom roms and the hard work of devs here I would have tossed this phone by now.

Having been an android owner for the last three years (and an evo owner for the last 2), I've gotten used to the slower updates. It's always been explained away by saying that first HTC has to produce an update, then Sprint has to tweak the update, before we ever get the OTA. I know it's not a solution to the problem presented in the OP, but has anyone noticed that we have fantastic devs for this phone? The roms, kernels, and tweaks are not only being produced on a daily basis, but are frequently updated and provided with fantastic support. I can live with slow manufacture and provider updates as long we continue to have great devs.
Yes, but in a different way. I will not be purchasing another HTC product ever due to their slow update roll outs as well as their locking of the boot loaders. While they finally relented and let people unlock their bootloaders through their website, their previous and current stance on the issue is unacceptable to me.
You got robbed if you paid $850 for the phone, lol.
Everyone always thinks the grass is greener someplace else. If you're not happy with sprint then go somewhere else.
But just know that the verizon Gnex, a Google phone, didn't get the JB update for 2 months after it was released on GSM phones.
Also I don't think KLP has been released yet.

KLP isn't out yet. I never said i was leaving sprint just may leave HTC. for me sprint is the best deal besides pre-paid. if pre-paid got the hottest phones as well. I think the big 3 would be outta biz or would have to lower prices to compete. lol

not really that is what they run off contract. bout $800 plus tax
this phone will probably be the last HTC phone I purchase... unless they change their policy on source and start to release it to dev's faster... it seems like there is a lot more activity for the S3....
If I get another HTC device it will be a nexus. If they dont make a nexus device im not getting it. I love htc build quality, it feels like a real device in my hand, but the lack of updates really turns me off.
Sorry to hear you paid $850 for this mech.. got mine free without upgrading because the 3ds were on backorder when mine broke... and i got that free also...
