[Q] Wont turn on, have tried stock charger and different battery - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

stock atrix, up to date on at&t, no mods, no rooting...etc.
i was using mpdroid the other day. the app crashed a few times. After fussing with the app for a bit, i had the phone next to me on the table. I noticed that the phone had restarted itself and appeared to have hung with the red Motorola boot icon. So i pulled the battery and tried to turn it on. No response.
I have tried the following
-left on factory charger for a day. Have tried blackberry and iphone chargers as well
-plugged into USB port on PC, results in green light being lit for short period of time
-factory hard reset (volume down and lock button at same time).
-a friends fully charged battery
the only one of these methods that resulted in any indication of life is the lighting of the green indicator light when plugged into a PC's USB port.
at the very least i would like to wipe all my data off the phone before exchanging it at at&t. Is there anything i can do to either recover the phone or wipe it?

You need a factory test cable look in dev section on how to make one then flash a sbf with rsd. That's how I fixed mine

Note to your self please check cables to make sure they aren't touching one another when u make one if the 5vdc shorts with the wrong wire it will short both ur computer and phone
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App

do the at&t service centers have the ability to do this? There is one nearby that i can stop at after work.
I assume that since id be flashing the phone that id lose everything that is on it?

I don't know really I don't think so its a cable that moto uses. Plus I wouldn't take it to store most of them guys don't know what they are doing. Plus you run the risk of him trying to factory reset and permanently bricking your phone. What have you installed which build. I would make that cable and then use fastboot to flash 2.3.4 . Then again its up to you. YOU CAN TRY to bs the store by saying it was updating then wouldn't come back on, you may get a dumb one.

Since i am so busy these days i might skip making the cable and just exchange the phone. It would be a legitimate return as the phone did this to itself. I haven't modified it or installed anything outside of the standard app store.

That may be your best bet since you haven't done anything to your phone to have caused your issue.

Tab thinks it's charging

I was using my tab while keeping it charging, got the battery 100% full notification, so I unplugged the charger. However, it thinks it's still plugged in. I've tried restarting multiple times and wiping cache, dalvik cache, and battery stats, but it's still happening.
The big problem is that now it won't recognize other things, such as plugging in a USB drive or game controller with the adapter. How do I fix it?

I just tried a complete factory reset and upgrade to v2 of the rom with pershoots kernel, still not working. Still says fully charged and plugged in, but no way it could be hours later.
Please help!

I maybe wrong but it sounds as if your charging port may be messed up somehow. Call the Samsung number on the back of the tab its on the bottom it'd really small lettering though. They may be able to help.

That's what I ended up doing. Their customer support is amazing! 24/7 phone line, and it took five minutes to refill them what was going on and that I has already retired everything like resetting, and now they're sending me a shipping label free of charge to repair it. I'll have it back (same one, not a new one) in 5-14 days from when I send it in with the label, which should be 3-5 days to get. Not too bad srt all.

Samsung Galaxy Player 5 Charging Issue
Slightly different device, same problem. My Player will continue to show as charging after I unplug it. This does not happen every time, but it happens more often than not. Also, wall charger or PC both cause the problem. A little more info about my device: I have an un-rooted domestic (American) version of the YP-G70, which is a 5in Android device with no cellular connection of any kind (wifi only). I have had no other problems with the device and it is only a few days old. I suspect I will have to get it sent back to Sammy. Anyway, thanks in advance for any help, and please spare the noob!

Bricked?

My thread on the moto support forum:

Anyone else run into this issue? Worst case if it comes down to it, think they will give me a new Photon?
Hey, I ran into this.. https ://supportforums.motorola.com/message/400251[/url]
It is sort of similar to what happened in your case. Sorry I can't be of much help.
I had the same thing happen when I flashed the 198_7 update in RSD. I pulled the battery and let it sit for a minute. Then I restarted in recovery mode (Hold Volume down +Power, press volume down until you see "Boot Android (No BP)" and then press Volume Up. You should see the message "Cold-Booting Linux" and hopefully the phone will restart. Not sure what caused the error or if this was what even fixed it but I've had no issued since. Let us know if this works, I for one would like to know if this is a real fix or mine just coincidentally worked afterwards.
EDIT: I just tried the "Cold-Boot" again and after it restarted I had no CDMA service, don't worry a quick reboot restores connections. So it seems that this option may actually bypass the modem power up which is probably why it worked. I'm still still not sure what the "no BP" stands for though, anyone?
Was using RSD to manually install 198_6 and now the phone won't turn on unless plugged into a wall charger and then it displays "modem will not power up (2)". Anyone able to help save my butt?

Was a no go. Couldn't get into recovery. Took it to sprint and supposedly the battery is dead as well. Biggest concern is them digging for any messing around. Was able to factory reset and lock the bootloader so they shouldn't be able to call shenanigans. My evo shift is now my clock and useful as long as there is wifi lol
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
I saw that thing once, but it was normally - returned the battery and went to recovery normally.
Sprint said they couldnt do anything, looks like its Asurion time :\
Started messing with the phone while waiting on asurion and i can get it to get into fastboot, etc options. It will wait a while but still goes back to the modem will not power up and battery is too low to flash :/ any suggestions on how to maybe charge the battery i know sprint is saying the battery failed but that seems unlikely
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Also seems like the phone knows when it is plugged into an outlet vs my computer. When the phone is connected to my computer it turns the led white, while the outlet turns the led green then the screen turns on. If i could get the screen on while plugged into my computer i could maybe get my phone back in working order
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Joker had a little trick but you had to hack up a USB cable to get it to work. You might ask him. But that seemed to charge.
I just went ahead and called asurion, photon should be here tomorrow afternoon. Still cant figure out why the phone bricked. Oh well :/

I believe it was lower than normal when i use rsd, that may have been why
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
That is probably true.
Sent from my Photon via XDA
Well despite my user error i am so happy to be back with a photon. This one seems to be bug free as well. The screen if death and reboots definitely must have been hardware related. This one also does not seen to heat up as bad either. This thread can be closed.

[Q] S II dead :(

Hi all. I have a big problem. I placed my phone onto my desk before sleeping (my battery was +/-55%). When I woke up my phone did not want to go on. I tried charging it for 3 hours with my 2 pin charger and it still didn't want to come on (the charging battery animation didn't even show). I also tried charging with the USB cable via PC but that didn't help. I used my multi-meter to check if the battery was working and it showed that it contains +/-3.4V (battery is rated 3.5V). I tried to boot up into recovery mode (volume down + home button + power button) but it still didn't come on
I bought my phone at the beginning of the year (brand new) and it has been working with no problems until today. I have essential data on my phone (phone book, messages, apps etc) which are really important and I wouldn't want to lose them. Help would be much appreciated.

But how can it get bricked out of the blue? Was working perfectly night before happened. The only app I installed was Angry Birds: Star Wars (officially from Play Google Market).
Hard to say. Phones (like any other electronics) can die for all kinds of obscure reasons.
Service centre or JTAG repair; if you choose the latter option (assuming it can be JTAG'd & it's not a hardware issue), you could ask the repairer if they can recover your data. Might be possible. Service centre will wipe it if it if it's not a hardware issue, and if it is, they'll replace the MB which means you get new internal storage/you'll lose your stuff.
LOL.

Same Issue
I have the exact same issue with my i9100. I woke up and it was dead. No recovery mode, no download mode, nada...nothing comes up on screen. It has been a little buggy ever since the ICS update but it has always worked eventually. I put the battery into my friend's phone and his worked fine. I am really hoping somebody has answers and it is just not "dead". I never used a ROM or anything, it's killing me that a $500 can just die overnight like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If your phone is still under warranty, go to Samsung service center.
Sent from my GT-I9100
I can not believe that just happened overnight, the only possibility is that you put some of the room's, if you have a warranty on the device, you can send it to the service and just hope that they will accept it and serviced

Razr wont turn on

I have searched all over and tried all of the power + vol, +/- , usb, pc chargers etc...I get the solid white light when plugged in. The PC recognizes the phone I assume because the computer makes connection noises and moto drivers popup to install. It is stock, unrooted running JB and has been rebooting and not turning back on right away for a few weeks now until last night where it was on the charger all night and now is 100% dead. Any options? I cant seem to find a final working answer? Will it come down to needing to get a factory usb cable to enter fastboot, even which, what to do from that point?

OK here is how to make your stock cable into a factory cable http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075647
Now that will let you flash it without it being charged. I would recommended flashing a stock sbf for your phone model and provider also make sure you use the jb one ics won't work. Also I recommend using rsd for the flashing process
OK thanks I'll soldier one up tonight and try it out. Can someone send me a link to the sbf files? Which version of rsd is recommended?

after many tries of plugging in usb, it finally went into fastboot where RSD was able to recognized it. I SBF'd, it completed then said it needed to reboot. It wouldn't reboot on its on probably because I had the program factory usb cable attached. Still got nothing after that, power button, hold vol down, hold both, wall charger, pc charger etc...I still get a white blinking light then solid then off when in the wall charger. The computer just makes the connect and disconnect noise for like 4 minutes then it does nothing. I'm still having trouble trying to get it back into fastboot with factory cable, its totally random when it decides to accept it. I'm out of ideas?
Do you have a multimeter? And if so, have you ever removed the back of your phone?
If you're willing to, (at your own risk, as this will void a warranty), you can remove the back of the phone, and check the voltage/amps on your battery and charging contacts. Unscrew the contacts (using a very, very small torx driver), and check the voltage on the battery (3.8~ I believe), and voltage/amps on the phone contacts with the charger plugged in (and battery disconnected). If there is current, then the battery is being charged. Watch the behavior of the phone and LED as you're doing this, as it could tell you if and when you current is steady. I may be wrong, but a flashing LED means charging, and steady means charged/not charging (for various reasons). There may be a physical problem with the USB port on your phone, causing intermittent connection problems, leading to the flashing and power-up issues altogether.
In reference to the connect/ disconnect on the computer, in Control Panel>Device Manager>USB Controllers, I uninstalled (not disabled) both my Root Hubs and Host Controllers, and Windows being Windows, it automatically reinstalled the proper drivers. Voila, my phone was once again recognized. (Done with my SGS3, though device type is moot with this idea.)
Good luck!
I've spent too much wasted time messing with it. To the graveyard drawer with the droid 1, HTC rezound and now the RAZR it goes

[Q] Phone slowly becoming unusable, Recovery is unaccessible.

I have no idea what went wrong or where. One day a few apps starting force closing. Then I got weird unlocking problems. Now google play crashed consistently on any search, as well as ****ing settings. I ****ing hate this phone.
-Rooted and unlocked via freegee.
-Installed clockwork over adb(everything was fine at this point)
-Flashed a few different ROMS
-Flashd beanstalk, and then the problems started.
-Can't get ****ing adb to connect no matter what so I can't flash a new recovery
-Considering beating in my phone with a bat.
Anyone have any suggestions for getting recovery working again? Clockworks app doesn't work, similar to what this fellow went through (and apparently solved) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258671&highlight=can+t+boot+recovery
Haven't tried LGNPST because I have no idea what the acronym stands for and no one says what it is.

I've exhausted everything I could find through the teenybin thread. LGNPST and teenybin gave me back fastboot, but I still have no recovery.
Oh yeah, and a sweet bonus: My phone refuses to go past the boot screen when booting and adb on both my desktops refuses to recognize my device! Anyone want a free phone before I smash it to bits against my face?
Update: For all you poor fools who are following the same path, heres what happened.
Left it plugged in all night and it continued to flash red for a while, and then show a full charge screen, then turn off. Repeated this throughout the whole night.
Come morning I perform a hard battery pull via this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45849420#post45849420
I wait a minute with the motherboard connector disengaged. Hold power button for 10 seconds. Plug back in, absolutely no change in my situation. I tried again for about 5 minutes, ditto.
So in conclusion, I broke my phone because I installed a custom rom and LG didn't want me to. I hope whatever team was in charge of developing this phone burns in hell like they so sweetly deserve.
**** you LG. ****. YOU. I want my ****ING money back. You make **** PRODUCTS.

Yeah its my fault for installing a custom ROM. You wouldnt be saying this if a desktop or laptop magically stopped working after reinstalling windows or linux. If those were as randomly, stupidly risky, people would be ****ing in arms at microsoft, as they rightfully should be at carriers. Whatever man.
If you can't access recovery or the phone will not boot then adb won't work. You said that you do have the ability to use fastboot though. Have you tried flash twrp from fastboot?

Why you install recovery over adb? I mean, when you unlock with freegee it installs the recovery you want (cwm or twrp), so no need for adb.
Have you tried to KDZ a stock rom and do a hard reset?

You can melt the software side of these phones so badly and still recover with the Qualcomm tools after the fact, it's not even funny how bad things can go before no return. Flashing a rom didn't do this, period. I want to believe you just suffered from a fluke hardware failure. Even more so it sounds like the USB connector went ape and continued wigging out from there.
The universal drivers also work perfectly. Considering in every way this is the nexus 4 with an SD card slot and a better LTE amplifier, everything you're ranting about is invalid.
The phone is a sanctioned, flash to hell and back model. You need to do some soul searching and find out where YOU went wrong. Or at least get an el cheapo multimeter out and start checking continuity. If it turns out you broke the charging connector or the battery connector off of the board you can STILL be saved. Just put in some effort and try to find the root cause. Screaming and cursing on a random corner of the internet isn't solving your problem
Making up crazed excuses isn't doing any service to you or the other forum users either. Especially the driver ranting. They work flawlessly. Hell even the generic Google provided SDK abd driver works.
If you figure anything out we're here to try and get you back to good.

-edit- and leave the battery disconnected for awhile. The reason I suggest holding the power button while battery disconnected is in the hope that it will drain any remaining current out of the phone. There's no documentation to say it does or doesn't. So let the thing sit and be absolutely sure it's got a chance to reset. And check the battery voltage to confirm if it's dead or not. Since the contacts will be right there when it's disconnected...
That red light flashing / lg logo when plugged in is exactly where my phone and others was when needing a battery pull. It's fixed every phone I've heard of in that state. Try it again?
The same thing happened to me twice before. Both times I was able to recover my LG you get back into my recovery screen. What works for me is using Lgnpst back to stock jb. Next I flashed both teeny bins. Immediately after flashing the teeny bins, I open my LG up and pulled the battery. I waited about 10 minutes attach the battery back into the LG. Booted to the device and a factory reset my holding the power button in the volume down button. After the the device finished the reset I was good to go and my LG back to normal. This is what works for me give it a try... And good luck.

Well, another free day off, guess I'll give it a go again.
The connection of the battery to the mobo is most definitely intact. Pulled the plug to the mobo for ten minutes, plugged back in.
It still just steadily flashes red whenever I charge it. Nothing.
I'll try holding the power button while its disconnected, but I don't have a multimeter to check voltage.
Edit: Something changed. After sitting with the battery disconnected and a rubber band around the power button for 20 minutes, it showed a battery with a charge icon, then nothing. Havent had a screen for awhile. Pressing the power button, nothing. Holding it for awhile gets the full-charge battery, and if I keep holding it, the google symbol, and then nothing. I guess I'll try pulled the battery for 20 minutes again, Maybe it didn't fully discharge?
Edit 2: I've been informed that after a hundred battery pulls, the battery probably has something physically wrong with it. ****ing phenomenal goddamned phone here!! Why do I pay tech companies money for **** again?

go to a service, ask them if it can be repaired, if they say yes go home and wait for an idea
if they say no dont lose the hope
its a great phone, and as you see you are the only one with this problem
and with that angriness you will do nothing, remember you and only you are the responsable for any damage your phone suffers, not the developer of that rom
