From Twitter:
P3Droid - "Hang on to that DX2 folks: It will get an update and looks like its going to be 2.3.4 - No ETA though"
If you've been around the android world for a while, you probably know all about P3 and TeamBlackHat. When they tweet something like this, it usually means some pretty exciting stuff is coming down the pipes.
Seeing as how P3 is soon receiving a donated X2, I can't help but wonder if he's already got his hands on a leak that just needs to be tested.
TBH did the same thing with droid charge just recently. Started talking about 2.3.4 for the charge, acquired one, and then a few days later released the leak for the Droid Charge.
Hopefully, this will bode well for us X2 owners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is GREAT news - where is the donate link for getting him a X2?
As far as I know, the donated X2 has already been funded and Mistawolfe is just waiting to receive P3's address.
But if you're wanting to help out some more you can look up Mistawolfe on twitter, droidforums, or droidxforums.
We all knew the update has been coming for a while....so what is the news here? nothing...carry on
this is the first statement from p3droid that i have come across
TBH is not joke - they are in the middle of droid X, Charge and now the X2
Well, I received a PM on the Droid X forums from a guy saying he would donate one. I talked to him back and forth, talked to P3Droid - then the guy writes me back and says "I meant donate in the form of people sending me money"
So yeah, not sure what's up there. I know there are polls on other forums where people are saying they'd give XXX amount of money. If somebody wants to set something up (via PayPal or whatnot) - I'll be the first to drop some money in.
This baby needs a ROM bad. Moto builds are garbage...
Sorry for the confusion MistaWolfe I never meant to sell my X2 but wanted to donate $ myself to help P3Droid buy one.. as soon as someone sets up a link I will be donating $

I too will donate $$$ via paypal towards the X2, if i had an extra one i would send it...

New to these forums and to android! As a former crackberry, I went to androidcentral and found little support for the Dx2and and found Google bringing me here! Have had phone for two weeks now and loving it! Was able to sbf back to froyo and gingerbreak, and than sbf back to gb and root it, thanks to the advice in these forums! Installed eclipse .4 rom today again, thanks to these forums and phone is cooking ! This prompted me to sign up, and say thanks to the devs and members here! Looking forward to my time here!
Welcome! Glad to hear about your successful dive into the droid X2! This is my first android phone too (came from a palm pixi plus)

X2 is my first Android phone as well, unless you count my Galaxy Tab. It's the Tab, once I got it rooted, that got me hooked on Android. It wasn't long before I wanted to trade in my Windows phone for "something" Android. I bought my Wife a Fascinate (for the pretty screen), and myself a Droid X2 (for the performance).
Nowhere have I been able to learn more about Android and my devices than here on the XDA forums. This seems to be where the folks who KNOW the workings of Android hang out, and there's always someone willing to help.
Every once in a while someone gets a bit "testy". You'll know when you've hit someone's nerve when instead of getting a response, someone will simply remind you that "Google is your friend". After hanging around a while longer, I began to understand that frustration, though.
Welcome! It's my first android phone to. (hence the username)
Welcome aboard! Hope your enjoying your android experience so far. The X-squared is my 2nd android, right behind my ol' X, until it took a few cartwheels down some stairs lol
just signed up
The support that the dev has kept is insanely awesome! I joined just to compliment the people who put their time and effort into really manipulating android for the consumer and to share it! I had an x1 loved it. Rooted it, and then, strangely, lost it. The x2 came in and I was hooked. New roms and updates to them are top priority. This forum is my homepage on my x2! I look forward to testing out new roms and giving feedback.
The x2 is a monster. Welcome to the dark side...

Welcome to the forum,
I had the Fascinate (voice/call/internet problem's) got a free upgrade to a DroidX2 and i love it, its speedy, plays netflix videos good, and games run good, am running stock GB, i love this phone to death, am not upgrading until quad-core phones are out.
Came here from crackberry as well. Just got the x2 in June. Coming from blackberry I have to say I was shocked to see all of the development that goes on with android. Very impressive community.

I just upgraded from my original Motorola Droid to the Motorola Droid X2 a couple weeks ago and I'm loving it. Especially rooted on the Eclipse ROM and Supercharged with the V6 script.
had an HTC. Gave it up for a work provided Blackberry... Quickly gave said blackberry back and got an X2.

we know the droid 3 exploit works (its how about 97% of you rooted). however the electrify has a 2.3.5 update that blocks it.. which means that photon owners will prolly be rootless come next update. :O
the man who has brought out a good number of root exploits, Dan Rosenberg has a new trick up his sleeve. seems hes already got the next wave of motos rooted including the droid 4 that released today. thing is there is gunna be a lot of people using it (i know its what ill be changing the one click to so that we can root the electrify. and think about how many other moto devices that will be freed. with that in mind djrbliss is looking to get himself a droid 4 (ew who uses verizon? ).
anyways long story short, i included a we pay link he gets 200 he'll make it public and then any extra goes to the american red cross. so if you have root now, or in the future its prolly cuz of this guy. if your an electrify owner and want a nice easy one click? then shoot this guy a few bucks

Incorrect. When it reaches $500 he'll release it.
I'll be glad to kick in $20 whenever the time comes that I need to root for ICS or have to re-root because I couldn't ignore 2.3.5 (I'll ignore 2.3.5 if I can).

i could see where that is fitting i suppose. i knew most of the people who would be interested would be people who are locked out of root (droid 4) and possibly electrify owners that want a one click. just figured id let people know since he has done a whole lot for the rooting community.. :/

How is $575 (and he has stopped accepting) a failure?
With all respect to the dev, I think the mistake he made was the "I'll release it when y'all pay $500". THAT (his message) was the failure in the "experiment". The $200 for a phone was not the issue.
'nuff said - I am NOT trying to inflame anything here. I believe the dev has done awesome free work for us, but could have avoided all of this with slightly different words.
People are still people and the psychology of messages still counts!
Please take all the above ramblings in a respectful, positive and helpful tone!
No offense but if he did it, he has the right to wait for 500. 99% of us work for free. Ad clicks and donations are nice but not expected. That doesn't mean we don't have to work for free it just means we do.
So if you want to donate, its your money.

I totally agree - he had every right to set a number and not release until that number was reached. He has no obligation to unlock phones for free.
But we'll never know in this case since he changed the rules mid-experiment, which means the experiment neither failed nor succeeded. When I saw the way he originally announced it, I thought "this won't end well" (see below for more).
The point I was trying to make was that, from a human psych POV, that a bounty (really a ransom here) is not an effective motivator for a bunch of opinionated, strong-willed contributors like us.
Case in point - a few years ago at ppcGeeks, $300 bounty, "release when paid" for a Win Mo phone (TP2 I think), people got ruffled, rules got changed, dev collected $1,000 in 2 days.
It's all about psychology and messaging, for although we are are bit different from a lot of people, we are still normal people. A carrot remains a better motivator than a stick.
In my opinion, the dev should have said "hard work", "please contribute", "first 200 to me for a phone which is a tool that will benefit you", "next 100 / 200 for my family", "rest to charity" (if that's really what he wants to; keep it all if he wants). Just my opinion of course - and I respect that the dev may or may not care in the slightest about all my words (assume he doesn't).
Sorry for the number of words - although an engineer, I took a lot of psych in college.
Dude shoulda bought a phone. Sheesh. Its donations, he can do what he wants with it.

Yes - he should have bought a phone, and then dinner for his wife/gf ....... I told him that via a different route; also told him no matter what he did, he'd get some snarky comments that he should just ignore.
Edit: I at first made this post to inform people that no one officially said X2 is being axed and then I read iBolski's post on another thread:
iBolski said:
Just received a reply from Motorola to my BBB filling. Now I'm really ticked and I've had it. I'll be responding later today basically telling them that I will no longer purchase Motorola products, ever. That the X2 is my FINAL Motorola device and that when my upgrade comes due later this year, I'll be going to a different manufacturer.
The response stated they are still supporting the X2, but it will not receive ICS, which is different from the phone call I received on my cell phone. Maybe it was Melvin? What I think it was is the person calling me was mistaken OR the person responding to my BBB complaint doesn't know what's going on. I'll definitely tell them about the phone call in my response as well.
But, I'm going to take the response from my BBB filing as the last straw. I'm done fighting this fight. I have better things to do than to waste my breath with a company that has decided to dump support and upgrades to a phone that is not even a year old.
I will keep my avatar that I have speaking out against Motorola and it's products. Now, if they want to give me a Droid RAZR MAXX for free, I'll take that, but I'm done with Motorola, period.

So, the X2 is getting Axed!?
Dragonz, you are our only hope!

The Following is the old post I made. Though it technically is right, as in no one officially communicated to us that the X2 is being axed, in light of iBolski's correspondences, it may be falsified.
_____________________________________________________
To curb the misinformation spreading on this forum, I've decided to make a post clarifying that NO ONE said X2 is not getting ICS, officially or unofficially.
There is a thread here that quotes:
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/03/06/verizon-releases-list-of-phones-to-get-ice-cream-sandwich-updates/
and claims that VZW has officially axed the X2. Read the article carefully. It says:
"We will continue to update this list as additional details become available throughout the year. Also, follow @VZWNews on Twitter for additional upgrade announcements.
Secondly, the ONLY moto devices on the list are those that Motorola confirmed getting ICS a while back. Surely, Motorola is not doing "planning and evaluation" for a Bazillion phones just to ditch each and everyone of them. At that rate, they might as well burn a pile of money and phones and see how that goes.
So, to sum up. NOBODY said we aren't getting ICS, excepting for all the misinformation of course.
Hope this helps.

If the X2 does get ICS it's probably going to be way bogged down with blur that it'll barely run, but at the same time, I'd love to get ICS because then the kernel can officially be supported by the kanged CM9 we're getting (hopefully) real soon, but from what I've read the GB kernel'll do fine with cm9 so I'm up in the air about that.
Hi gang!
If you have seen my BBB complaint thread, then you should know by now that I complained to Motorola by filing a complaint with BBB. So, I was waiting for them to reply. And today they did and boy are you in a surprise here!
Sit back, buckle up. We are going on a wild ride!
The email was well written and addressed the two key concerns I raised.
Firstly, they informed me that they have done intensive testing and have concluded that Droid X2 is going to get ICS, eventually. The update page on Motorola's blog should be updated with this info in the next few weeks. They were actually planning to scrap the whole thing, but recently they received a hoard of BBB complaints from X2 users that they thought it is worth giving it a second look. Now, granted they claimed that to help X2 run the ICS update, they had to trim some stuff and features not only from ICS but from their own "value pack" Blur. I am all in for that! They said that a few Blur features that previously existed and are on other phones will be removed. Still they said there is no need to worry as the whole Blur experience isn't compromised,
As far as ICS is concerned, they are planning to cut down some of its features, notably voice dictation. Also, it seems that ICS is using the device's resources better anyways as the email claimed that they found significant performance improvements.
Furthermore, with regard to Bootloader, the email claimed that they are looking into it but can't give a whole lot of promises. Apparently they are in negotiations with VZW and are pushing hard, given that many customers are complaining and are taking similar steps and stands as the competition, such as HTC, to help make VZW buckle. It is interesting to note that the email acknowledges that HTC has been successful at unlocking the Bootloaders and Moto is trying to take a similar approach as "their competitors" to persuade VZW. The email stated that if the negotiations are successful, which should be known in a month, then they will release the unlock tool in a few weeks. The email also claims that the unlock tool is currently in development and testing, which hints that Motorola is optimistic on VZW buckling on pressure, else why will they waste their money on developing a tool that they will never release?
Finally, they acknowledged that a good number of customers do regularly complain on their Facebook, twitter pages or otherwise file complaints to them regarding bootloaders and that they are completely aware of the situation. They wish to go public after the negotiations with VZW and if VZW agrees, spread the good news to everyone while apologizing the huge delay of doing something they said they were gonna do a long time back. If VZW doesn't agree, they wish to make public the details of the negotiations so that customers understand that Motorola is as helpless as them.
Note that I paraphrased and elaborated a lot of what Motorola said in the email to clarify for you guys. The email they sent was terse, not as elaborate as this, yet clearly conveyed all of this info.
So, there we have it folks. At least ICS is on the way and we now know that Motorola is negotiating with VZW and developing the unlock tools. The fact that they are developing the tools suggest that they are optimistic of the outcome of the negotiations! But you never know, and if it doesn't work out, may be Melvin can leak the tools!!!
So, that is a LOT to digest! Have fun with this news and go crazy! I think all those guys who submitted a BBB complaint deserve kudos to pushing Moto to do the right thing. And big kudos to iBolski for starting it and fueling the momentum and being the inspiration for others!!!

On the flip side, I just did this because the last few days have been reallllly slow and I wanted to do something fun. And I was actually surprised no one did this so far, given that we have experienced Melvin and all, I figured people will learn to prank more, especially on April 1.
Anyway, I am on your side. I filed a big complaint to Motorola that you can read here and I am waiting for Moto to reply.
So I am fighting the good fight! In the meantime, lets have some fun!

Still, good one.
As i was looking on the Motorola website http://motorola.cebuyback.com/ i found out were elegable for a new Motorola phone 100$ discount. For instance the Droid Razr HD. But one downside to this is you have to give your X2 back to them. Im thinking about doing this. To upgrade to a jelly bean capable phone. I wanna hear are you guys gonna take up on this offer?
We've been over this in this forum already.

A lot of people have already moved on though. I, personally dont like the idea of giving back my phone.
