[Q] Atrix problem "network with limited service found" - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have strange problem with Atrix, it's registering to network then it is showing "network with limited service found. do you want to initiate a network search".
Mobile network is connected, I have good reception, I can use Internet access over that network, however cant make/receive.
Stock firmware, no changes.
Any information much appreciated.
Rob

That's odd. I guess T-Mobile is compatible with the atrix in the UK?
If your phone is completely stock, maybe Moto or your carrier could help you with it if nobody on here can. I'm not an expert, but if you just got this phone, then if you wouldn't mind doing a factory reset, that may squash any problem. Another thing that it may be doing if it's a new phone is try to update itself to a newer build? When you go to wireless and networks and look at the list of APNs, what is listed and what is it currently connected to?

Hi
Thank you so much for your replay. Unfortunetely i've done all those.
I think I can do much more than give headaset back to the shop as not working.
Regards,
Rob
Ps. Funny enough I'm sending this from Atrix on 3G connection but still cant make thw call.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA

Mystery solved, I have bought a "blocked" phone.
I called Orange UK to ask about status of that IMEI (as that was Orange phone), and very nice lady told me that phone is blacklisted with "lost or stolen" description.
So next time when your toy cant login to GSM network but working fine on 3G/GPRS please first check is phone is not blacklisted.
Case closed.
Regards,
Rob

Can anyone help? - No Signal

Hi folks, can anyone please help me with this problem?
My brother in law has asked me to look at his S740. He has tried several o2 SIM cards (UK) in this phone but always gets told there is no signal.
Not only that, but there is a symbol where the strength meter should be that isn't documented in the user guide.
He has also tried my o2 (3G) sim and a Vodafone sim, both UK.
Any advice gratefully recieved. We have tried several hard resets also.
Thanks
This means it's looking for signal. My guess: Still SIM-locked?

Not sure if it's SIM locked as there is a menu to select which carrier to use.
It reads the SIM correctly and sets it all up for o2, but just doesnt get any signal.
Does anyone know where the GSM antenna is on these? Maybe its a bad connection.
UPDATE:
I've had a mail back from HTC that recommends I send it in for repair, lol.
Now do I take it they are robbing buggers or do I take it that the icon is an indicator of a hardware fault??
Hmmmm, dilemma. lol
Are there any more suggestions on what it may be?
Has anyone successfully taken one of these apart?
it may be because of a hardware error...try to connect to a wifi network...if it impossible to find a wifi network then it is due to a harware problem. Most likely because the FR coaxial cable is out of its possision...download the service manual and see how to fix it.

Hi sasiskas, it conects fine to my wireless network at home. I take it from your response that the cable serves a double purpose.
I downloaded the service manual so I could take a look, but only got as far as removing the 4 screws at the back. lol, I couldn't figure out how to get it off, lol
I'm still stuck at the assumption that it is indeed SIM locked, and so will try to find a suitable card to try out.

Thanks. I have tried the same but just keep getting a vender ID, (lol spelling), error.
I would appreciate any input whether you have success or not, it just may spark an idea off.
I cant get in touch with any sales or provider as it was gifted to my bro in law. He's not that bothered about it but would like to have it working if he can.
Thanks folks.
Hey! I think I know the solution to your problem...I had exactly the same problem when I hardReseted my phone.
Go to "Start-settings-Phone-Band Select"
and then select
1.Network type : Auto
2.Band Type : "Euro" if you live in Europe, "US" if you live in USA , or "Japan" if you live in Japan.
Good luck...Let us know if it worked!

Yes that is a good suggestion because the phone will display that icon if it can't find a *usable* network, be it that the SIM doesn't allow it or if the bands don't match the selection on the phone or the bands are not usable by the phone hardware etc.
I would suggest downloading & running HTC Field Test (fieldtest.exe) with & without a SIM installed, with each network & band setting & see if it shows any towers or signal. (Normally you want Auto for both but you may not have that option or you might prefer to set to a KNOWN working band to conserve battery & minimize searching) If should show something even without SIM or with SIM lock because it's supposed to support emergency calls either way. If it shows signals with SIM but you still have same no service icon then it's likely SIM locked (although the phone should alert you to that fact) so odds are the phone hardware, rom or settings do not support whatever signals are available to you. (Btw if field test shows N/A for all the values you need to app unlock your phone)
Hope that helps.
Bill
can you share a link with HTC Field Test?Thnx
Search is your friend.

Hey all I'm having a very similar problem.
Had my HTC for some months now but in the past few days I've found that my network signal is becoming very unpredictable.
I'm also on O2 and I used to have a pretty contstant H (I presume HSDPA) connection.
Howeever im finding now the phone with go from H to 3G to GPRS to E to no signal in the course of 5 mines and round and round again!
Its very annoying as it means I cant make / received calls or texts fluently and even cut me off on a phone call too.
However usually on phone calls it will keep me connected ok till I hang up and then go to no signal.
I've checked the wireless and it is picking up networks..
Any other suggestions? I will try the field test tomorrow...
PS I know its not the network as my work blackberry is O2 and is not having this issue..
Cheers in advance!
Well, just to close my input on this thread.
I tried various ROM's available from this site and none worked.
I did try the band selection settings but still a no go.
I did have limited success but overall, nothing. The phone has now gone back to the person who asked me to look into it and to my knowledge he is going to sell it to one of these phone reclaim companies.
I did check and one place, I think through the post office, is offering £80 ish so not bad I suppose.
Anyway, thank you to all who have made suggestions and wotnot. Personally I'm still happy with an old Nokia 6300 and my Wizard (Mini-S)
Thanks folks.

Atrix 4G cannot detect network carriers

I got my 4G a week ago and was working fine. Until yesterday my friend called me and requested me to use the *#*#4636#*#* code to check the Radio Bank in the Phone Info. It shown USA and I just pressed once and then returned. Also clicked the "enable data connection" and the 4G lost connection with the network. I am using China Mobile which works perfectly fine. I did a factory reset hoping this wuld resolve the problem.
However after numerous trials including flash the ROM and still could not resume to normal. I went into the Phone Info and saw that there are exceptions in the Phone Info screen. (per attached).
I chatted online with Motorola service desk and the lady asked me to send back the phone for repair. If I have a solution, I don't want to do that.
Can anyone advise me what's happening to my 4G and how can I resolve this problem? Would it be a "soft brick"?
Thank you...Peter Chan
Moved as not andorid development
Hi Peter,
I got exact the same problem :-(
Spoke to a Level 2 specialist of Motorola, but even they couldn't do anything. The only option is sending in the phone, but then you need a US return address.
If you do find a solution could you please post it here?
PS
A SBF file has just been leaked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989577
This might solve the problem...

[Q] Need Help. Simple quation for most

hello Guys,
This may be a simple question I just don't have the simple answer too
I sell my HTC hd2 and wondering to get something new, so I get Motorola photon 4g w/o plan, yesterday it arrives directly from motorola.store for $549
I`m leaving far away from USA, our country is Azerbaijan, Baku. it is 3000m. away from Turkey.
anyway, photon 4g came with his sprint Sim card (with ICC ID code on it)
I took it out and installed our network card, i tried 3 different sim card from different networks, but i can not receive or make any calls, on screen network is in range, but it can not register in network completely,
keep showing:
"contacting Network"
then:
Hands Free Activation
"Your activation could not be completed"
well we do not have here Sprint or AT&T and etc. so i can not call anybody to ask anything
is the tel is block or ? how can i use it with my network sim-cards?
thanks to all in advance, i`m new to motorola.
Call Sprint, there should be a sticker giving you the number on the phone when you buy it. If I answered what you were asking...

I called them, they keep asking sprint cell. phone number. do i have it ?
Interested in this as well as I may be on the same boat pretty soon.
If you bought it off-contract, I don't see why you'd need a Sprint account...

sorry did not had internet...
anyway i did not get any reply from sprint only massage:
Dear Sprint Customer,
Thank you for your inquiry. I am thinking that if you bought a new Motorola Photon you would have needed to activate the phone in the US before you left on your trip. Phones will not activate internationally. I do apologize.
Thank you,
Patty (rd756540)
after that i get in "mobile networks" then "Network Mode" in phone
"Sprint only"
"Any CDMA"
"Any GSM/UMTS"
"Automatic"
well i put on automatic, then network came
after that i gone to "Select Network"
"GSM only - Saves Battery"
"UMTS Only - Better performance"
"Automatic - Default'
(What is i this???
Anyway I Choose automatic - as i said network came and phone is working, but you need to do it after each restart of phone.
Also it also working like in roaming mode, i mean phone showing everything like in roaming.
USSD codes are not working at all
so it is still problem.. i do not know really what to do , any suggestions?
is it any way to install new rom with completely "sprint" things off the phone?

Nokia Lumia 800 Constant "No Service"

Hello everyone.
Since getting a Lumia 800 I've had nothing but issues. Initially the problem was battery life (as is common, I know), which never reached more than 5 hours even on minimum usage. Then I started getting signal dropouts. So I sent it back to Nokia's UK repair centre in Thetford, thinking that they would sort it.
I got the phone back today, and the phone now will not find a network at all - I've tried multiple Microsims on different networks, with no luck. On the advice of the Nokia helpline I restored the phone to factory settings, performed both a soft and hard reset, and tinkered with the network settings app and the mobile network menu in settings.
It isn't a sim insertion error, as a different symbol shows up when no sim is inserted. The phone simply won't find a network, when I know the signal strength is very strong in my area (in fact I'm using my old phone with the same sim card and it has full strength).
It looks like I'm going to have to send it back to Nokia again, but if anyone can help me to save me having to do that it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
Try put it on 2G.
Most time 2G get better signal than 3G.

2G didn't change anything, still no service.
I'd the similar issue, the status kept showing NO NETWORK connection, but the funniest part is, I can make call, and send SMS!
The most frustrated part is, the data connection is always drop! I'm not sure is my telco issue or the phone issue!
Have you tried ringing yourself?
I know that sounds stupid but I constantly get the no signal sign but can still call, send texts and receive all, even the internet works.
I thought it was a problem with three (everyone always says they're ****) but the post above suggests not.

Yeah I'd read somewhere else about ringing/texting to wake the phone up kinda thing, but it doesn't work.
Goes straight to answerphone when I call the phone, and when I try and call out it just fails.

Nope, it's doing this to me on the o2, giffgaff and 3 sim cards I've tried.
Where did you buy it? If it was a physical store I'd take it back there and ask for them to swap it over... would be quicker than sending it to Nokia.
I have the same problem with L800. No service but... I can't call, answer or send sms and get them...(Wifi works fine) I tried many different sim cards from different operators etc. Can't take it back to the shop because I bought it used without purchase papers. It just suddenly stopped saying "no service". And when I mess with it and try search the network manually it finds them, but wont connect to any of them. And after doing that alot, it says incorrect sim or something like that.
It lets me put in the pin code and everything.
I tried searching from everywhere but no solutions yet.

Hmmm, ok it's not a simcard issue then, if you tried a lot of other simcards from different operators, did you try to clean your simcard reader maybe there is some dust or perhaps a failure that results in not reading your simcard.
Goodluck buddy,
So today I made an experiment. I live in Norway and I went to Finland. In Finland the phone worked perfectly with out any problems but as soon I got over the country line back to Norway. It said "No Service". Very strange...

Well, then it's solved, just move over to Finland
Just kidding mate, it's a strange problem don't think there are a lot of differents between the gsm coverage of both countries.
The only option I can think about for now is to perform a hard reset.
If I found something usefull about this issue I let you know.
Greetz,

gsm signal problem

i've orange uk line. been to abroad for 4 weeks, lost my simcard there, got back to uk and called orange.they sent me a replacement but it's been 1 day still no signal.when i put my simcard to another phone it works fine.when i put someone else's working simcard to my phone, it doesn't have a signal.if i check about section on the phone, it says i'm connected to orange signal strength is high but no service.what do you think the problem is?
IMEI blocked or account at your carrier's end not setup properly (or at all ?) perhaps. Given you lost your sim/had to get a replacement, I'm betting they've still got a block on your account as a result of this.
Call your carrier to check this. Not much point troubleshooting this only to find this is the problem later. This is the most obvious thing it could be in the first instance so clarify this with them.
you're definitely right.i called the carrier and they said they'd blocked my phone either.thanks for help.
No probs. Hope you get it sorted out soon ;-)
