Done, although I'm in the process of selling my Streak its such a shame that such a great device is not widely appreciated.
Not really a fan of that guy. He posted on the Atrix forums asking for donations before releasing anything, then released a ROM for it without testing (he doesn't have an Atrix to test).

Good work guys!
I voted too, we will se if he is able to make some good rom for Dell Streak...
Guys make sure you include 5 for dell streak 5 in your votes so there is no confusion between 5 and 7.
Good point. I just edited my post on the site. Thanks for the heads up.

haven't heard anything from DJ Steve or Cyanogen about the Dell Streak at all lately you think Dell sent out C&D letters?
No grounds for a C&D except for including stage ui... Which sucks anyways.

Dj steve just released 1.9.1 for the streak a couple weeks ago. But he also does romms for the streak 7 so he kinda has his plate full im sure. Dont worry he sais as lonf as he is under contract with the streak he will support it
He also has an Atrix that he's been playing with as well.

correct me if Im wrong, but when fards gets the kernels sorted does that make it easer to port roms over and get fully working miui/cm
Maybe, maybe not, it DOES mean that we'll be using a much smoother, and more complete Gingerbread... I suppose it would make a CM or MIUI build more likely. His kernels are actually compiled from dell source, tweaked, and fixed quite a bit... much smoother than the pre-compiled (from anonymous source) kernel that DJSteve included in GingerStreak, with the exception of the blatantly obvious fact that sensors (accelerometers, magnetometer, and proximity) dont work in Fards' kernels YET.

Getting a fully working kernel is only the first step, Fard's kernel is still based on the GB alpha code that dell released in march. He's currently trying to get everything working first on it and still has a fair ways to go (he has made a great deal of progress so far). If it were to be backported to CM or MIUI someone would need to take the working GB kernel he made and backport all the changes back on top of a stock (probubuly AOSP) kernel and also do it without it breaking in the process.
It might look something like this:
Code:
GB alpha kernel -> Fard's GB kernel -> AOSP code -> CM
-> MIUI
-> Any other flavor
As CM and MIUI are downstream of AOSP it might be faster to backport to AOSP as CM and MIUI are prob pretty different code wise as they have different audiences.
Fards is definitely looking for more coders to help him get a working kernel. Whatever happens after we get a working kernel is anybody's guess, but it would be huge step closer either way.
thank you for shedding some light on the subject for me
I am a developer for the Dell Streak now but only problem is i don't own the device ..

I know every dev is hard at work on trying to get the kernel to work with our phones. Im just wondering if we are all pissing in the wind or is there really hope that we could see the kernel at some point?
Thanks
Have faith in our devs. They ve done all they've done, just leave them to do what they want.

what's good about this kernel ?
What does this new kernel do? allow us to OC higher? Sorry for the noobie question
Android 1.6/2.0/2.1 required a kernel that was based off of the 2.6.29 linux kernel, 2.2 requires 2.6.32. That's one of the main hold ups for our 2.2 development.
We'll likely run into the same problem when 3.0 is released since it'll likely require a newer kernel as well.

My current Froyo ROM has a .29 kernel.
Yeah how are we successfully running Froyo on 2.6.29 if 2.6.32 is required?
Sent from my Cyanogen Froyo using XDA App
He probably misspoke. By my understanding, Froyo comes with the 2.6.32 kernel and it would ease development of the 2.2-based ROMs if they could use the proper kernel with them.
You're using a ROM based on Froyo yet still using the 2.6.29 kernel, so it's not working as well as it could be. I believe this also affected all the things that required "fixing" in the 2.2-based ROMs (5MP camera, MMS, ...) which if they were actually able to use the real 2.2 kernel, they might not have had to find workarounds.
I could be mistaken about some of this, please don't flame me.

The Kernel
Good information, is it at all possible to build a 2.6.32 kernel for the eris?
Correct me if i'm wrong but wouldn't we need a new vendor tree for 2.6.32
^ I don't think so.
And yeah the froyo kernel would be nice... would really speed up development for roms since it would basically fix the issues. If we'd had a froyo kernel from the beginning for example the camera would have worked immediately.
possibly this?

while looking for eris kernels I checked out this guy's page... and seems he has a file for the heroc (eris) that is .32... says it's modified from another phone, supersonic, wasn't that the incredible codename?

With All due respect, perhaps you should just stick to 2.2 for now. While CM7 is a semi-viable option it is a bit more complex than flashing many of the more "standard" 2.2 roms.
Be patient, there are many custom roms you could look into that will surely boost your phones potential greatly while you wait for 2.3 builds to grow and develop.
Try out Bionix Version 1.3 (I believe) or Trigger 2.7. Those are my personal favorites. Right Now I am using a 2.2.1 Rom called Sweet Honey, which is great, but I haven't had enough time with it to give a proper judgment.
Look at the more stable options first, get used to things, learn how to use Odin, about download mode, the different recoveries, even about jigs (if needed); before you dive head first into this cesspool of amazing roms, kernels, themes and talented developers. There's a lot of options that are far less likely to brick your phone.
This thread is a good way to start.

anyone who has tried v20g....is there any new changes...when compared to gb rom's from noejn/andy/mik??
Read all the Threads about V20G, you may find the Answer there.
Use search before asking such Questions.
Thanks
i wanted to get replies from ppl who have tried it..!!
posting such questions in developer forum isn't needed and searching hundreds of pages is tough...
you can enlighten me with the direct link..or teaching me efficient ways of searching..
All in all, no the V20x(A,G) arent better then Miks,Andys or Noejn Rom and Franko'S Kernel.
But sometime this Night/Morning (Europe) LG released the 2.3.3 Source and we can hope on better Kernels..and maybe more bugless Roms from the Devs.
It looks like Andy already started, and im sure Mik and the others will follow soon in the next Days.
Andy statet that they have to do a complete restart (rewrite?) with the Kernel.

Well, there's at least 2 things that will be better in the V20x kernels: UMS & (my pet peeve in both current GB roms) Bluetooth calling!
Lack of bluetooth calling has made me come back to Froyo (void.) every time. But I guess Andy and Mik_os won't be far behind now that the sources have been released.

Hiya! Okay, I'm quite experienced with Android now, and I know this is a noobs question, and possibly frowned upon, but I was wondering what the best Kernel and ROM for my X10 is?
I previously used an X8 with CM7 (2.3.4) v.138 HACKDROID, and I pretty much want the same awesomeness on my X10 but better. There are a load here, and the Master Thread doesn't have any recommendations like the X8 Master Thread (which recommends HACKDROID).
I just need a few pointers and I won't post a noob question again. This is all I pretty much need to know.
Thanks

Thanks. Yeah, its just like Hackdroid I found a 'Power to The People' Kernel by DoomLord, but it seems to turn off my signal, wifi and the USB cannot be recognised at all?
Only two quams with the ROM is lack of Governers - Not unless this Smartass one is good enough?? And the Volume in general is far too low.
Wish there was a Kernel to improve the ability even further. It's got the potential.
if you want a fast, reliable rom then j's cm7 j004 with doomlord's custom kernel can't be beat. until se release sources for gingerbread. this is the best custom setup around... in my opinion...

As I stated, I'm no expert, in fact, I could even be completely incorrect. I have however read other peoples responses to similar questions about SE releasing their kernel sources. They state that the Linux kernel sources, which are licenced under the GPL, must be disclosed within a certain period of time, which I believe to be 15 days.
Apologies for my somewhat limited knowledge about such licenses.

I'm going to give Wolf's a shot, but I really enjoyed ZMOD's, but it could be better. The HTC Mod keyboard doesn't work on it sadly. I've just resorted to using thumb keyboard, its pretty good actually

No you don't have to update your kernel, and no you don't have to wipe anything. The custom kernel is optional. I'm using stock kernel on 4.0.2.1 and its extremely snappy. I'm going to update to 4.0.3 tonight.

No respectable kernel offers OC over 1.6
The only person who claims OC higher than 1.6 is Mr. "snake oil" Tegrak, and he's too busy violating the GPL to back up his claims.
Nearly everything in my kernel was pulled from the CM7 source base, and I have provided atinm with patches for any significant modification/bugfix. If you could flash my kernel on CM7 you would see little to no difference.
The device has only been pulled from shelves in LTE markets where AT&T is aggressively marketing LTE devices with availability shenanigans and extra discounts to drive adoption - most of these markets are ones where stores didn't stock the I777 in the first place.
CM7 developers make the same request on ANY phone that has an official CM7 port. It's the CM7 way.
