Shattered my digitizer - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the cheapest way of getting replacement?
I have asurion, if i swap out is 50.00. What if I claim lost, is the charge more?
Id like to keep my old one for spare later.
Thanks

I just did everything except pay for claim, then backed out. For an exchange of damaged phone for replacement is 50.00 deductible, i may be grandfathered in or ?
Could it possibly be diff deductible if its lost instead of swapped out?
How hard is digitizer to replace, I know they are only 35/bux on ebay, free shipping

Yes, because then the charge would be fraud.

Did you return it through warranty or through insurance? Because if it's through insurance they don't give a **** what happened to it. If it's warranty, the charge will stick, and deservedly so. Warranties don't cover accidents, only defects.

Ok, well if you paid your 100 dollars and have insurance, then raise hell. But the email they sent you indicates they're considering it a manufacturer's warranty. Sounds like something is messed up on their end.
Thanks a ton.

My mom dropped her phone in the toilet and it still worked after the routine rice bath but she paid the fee and they sent her a new device.
You had to have returned it under warranty to be charged.
Sounds like the store screwed up, should have sent you to warranty and charged you the deductible.
If you contacted Verizon and told them you dropped your phone they should of referred you to Asurion. You pay $89-$100 (not sure the total cost anymore) then you get shipped a brand new device in retail packaging. Now if you called in and asked for a warranty exchange indicating it was a manufacturing defect as opposed to you dropping it on the floor.. Then the fee that has been accessed is legitimate and you're stuck with it for abusing the system. I and many others have done insurance claims and have never seen the $299.99 charge. Either you tried exchanging a device you damaged in hopes they wouldn't catch it. Or they screwed up bad and you need to raise hell. Not to sound like a d-bag or anything, but from where I'm standing it seems you got caught sending in a physically damaged device insiting it was manufacturer defect. If that is truly the case you deserve the fee for the gross abuse.

Sounds like you paid $100 to the store for insurance claim and the gave you a refurbished one and they didn't file as insurance claim like it was supposed to be and they sent it back as warranty replacement. Wonder what really happened to your $100

Idk maybe he paid $100 in store for the phone when he first signed up. Maybe he has that mixed up w/ the deductible.
....... Again sorry.
Where the hell did they pull the 299 price tag out of? Aren't Rezound retailing for 50 these days?

Yea if you went into the store with your broken one and they asked you to pay the $100 for the insurance claim and gave you a refurbished one instead of a new one then they pulled a fast one on you and ripped you off for $100 and filed it as warranty replacement because that's not how it works. If you went threw insurance you should have been sent a brand new retail unopened box with everything included from asurion (Not sure if corporate stores can do that) And it wouldn't matter what happened to your original one because it's an insurance claim not a warranty claim. Warranty claims can be done in store or through customer service and only apply to manufacturer defects.

Ah okay that sucks man. Like I said wasn't trying to offend you or anything. I guess I just interpeted what you were saying a bit differently. I would go back to the store where you paid the $100 for the insurance claim. Tell them to notate the account stating that you paid for an insurance claim. If the store screwed up and contacted warranty on your behalf instead of Asurion, get them to note that. With those notations you should be able get the charges credited asap.

No warranty? Squaretrade has deals!

I dropped Sprint because they are outright insane with their new prices . I have been looking at a warranty with SquareTrade and did a little homework and found a $30 off coupon code . The price before the code is $124.99 and $94.99 after for a 2 year warranty and a $99 deductible if something happens. You will be paying Sprint $264 over the next 2 years without adding the added $150-$200 deductible. The Coupon code is FF30 if anyone is interested!

While I do love Squaretrade, I have taken my previous phones to Sprint many times for repairs, and have never been charged a deductible after they verified that I had Total Equipment Protection. This would have cost me a $99 dedudible each time had I gone with Squaretrade. So the Sprint insurance has its benefits, but you're definitely right about the high prices. I hope Squaretrade works out for you. I use them for my other electronics, and their customer service has always been very good. If you sign up for Squaretrade email, they send you a 30% off coupon every Tuesday.

Yeah I called SquareTrade and asked and the fellow on the phone said if you have to send in your phone its a $99 deductible regardless of the phones situation but they will wave the fee if you go to a local store to get it fixed. He also couldnt locate a store near me so idk about SquareTrade anymore . I found another website GoCare whos prices are better then SquareTrade. Their $97 for 2 years and $50 deductible.

I've had my OG evo replaced/repaired 3 times by sprint (in most cases in the same day) without paying the deductible. The issues they fixed was the power button stopped working and the Micro usb port stopped working 2x. That's probably what I'm most worried about, I've knocked my evo off my desk a few times while it was charging. The guys at the sprint store even gave me a couple of free batteries while waiting for my replacement phone to come in. This is what makes me consider keeping TEP.

Insurance?

For those of you who will be getting this device, will you purchase insurance on it? I believe Verizon charges $7.95, are there just as good third party (cheaper) alternatives?

Protect cell is great insurance. Its cheaper in the the long run but you pay 140 up front instead of almost 200 over two years and after two years if you don't make a claim they will buy back your phone for 25 percent of RETAIL costs

I'll probably end up getting it through Verizon, just for the convenience if I need to utilize it in the future. $8/mo though adds up quick.
I have never had phone insurance and never had the need for it. I guess I can make a phone last 18 months to the upgrade. Check Verizons deductible first.
My opinion is never get an insurance for something you can replace on your own account. This will be much much cheaper in the long run.

Only once have I had a phone damaged by water, but luckily I was able to get it replaced under warranty as they couldn't tell it was damaged. My main concern is that I'll drop or lose the phone in the first 1-3 months, in which case the insurance would have helped a lot.
I always get the insurance with extended warranty. Always get devices overnighted when I've had problems. A few bucks is worth the peace of mind.
(EDIT: I may be wrong on the no-dudctible as a few other members have pointed out. A friend of mine told me that and I just took his word for it, sorry for misdirection) I've heard good things about Ensquared. $58 for 1 year and 2 claims, no deductible. Or $99 for 2 years and 3 claims up to $1000 each, also no deductible. It comes out to a little over $4 a month. Doesn't Verizon have a deductible per claim thats around 100 or 150?

it might be on paper. I would never buy anything such as warranty from bestbuy. Heck they couldn't even try to find an item that they have 10 in stock for me because the guy said they were too hard to get to? I had a warranty once with them and their first job seems to be to make you feel dumb about the phone, like you don't know what you are doing before they will replace it. you might as well intentionally hit it with a brick and take it in so they don't bull**** you. lol

Yeah, I admittedly have no experience with it and am going off word of mouth. Back when ICS leaked for the vivid there were alot of people that bricked their phones flashing the new Hboot and one of them said he took his to BBuy and they replaced it no questions asked. I may just pre-order here (I'm impatient anyway) and get the Verizon warranty. If it's anything like the AT&T warranty it will cover everything except for small arms fire (the words of the AT&T rep).

the insurance should definitely cover it, it would be a $99 deductible though. i am not sure if the extended warranty part would cover it or not since it is an embedded battery, i know usually they don't cover batteries but i could see this being an exception.

The deductible sucks but are there any alternatives? Unlikely there are going to be 3rd party batteries made since its not removable.

well if you unlocked/rooted, then you voided the warranty. htc will still fix whatever the problem is but you will have to pay for it. but the repairs will be cheaper than an insurance claim. unless your insurance is thru best buy black tie. then i dont think that there is a fee for a replacement.

If you have the Best buy Black tie it is easier to run it over with a truck and totaly destroy it and get a new one in three days then it is to try and unroot and all that. but you might want to have another phone unless you get one from best buy ( they are crap phones most of the time) js

I use a 3rd party. Worth Ave Group. They have the best prices and cover everything except lost, but as the lady told me on the phone if you leave your phone somewhere and go back to get it and its gone then it has been "stolen". ;o)
Lots of discount codes you can find online as well.
I have my phone and tablet covered for up to $500 reimbursement and it cost me $52 for the year. FYI, if you have a tablet its cheaper to insure that and then add your phone for an additional $10!
