Guess which forum this belongs in? (Hint: Not this one.)

I know! I know! The Q&A forum.

Bootloader is not unlocked. You have to go through the unlocking methods (flashing pudding, fastboot, oem unlock etc).
For root, you'll have to do the cwm root zip someone posted or the preinstall method. You can find it through searching the dev. forum or looking at the n00b faq that it's in the stickies.

To root all you need to do is do the preinstall method found in the dev forums. Works fine. If you need help shoot me a message.

Gingerbreak will not work on 4.5.91. You need to either flash the preinstall img or flash cwm and root zip.

To be honest, I have root. I did Gingerbreak 1.2 about a week ago and rooted my phone, heard about OTA, Updated, and still have root. Dunno if anybody else did that but it worked for me.

At what point in those directions does one actually install the update? Between which steps? At the end?

Do the fastboot and su stuff after you apply the OTA update.

Good work !

only use the preinstall img method if your are on the gingerbread build. in fact this is a very universal method for all versions.
GingerBreak or Gladiroot are limited to older versions; they will not work on the new build at all.

(Q) How to root after upgrade

Once the Offical 2.3.4 update is out how would we go about rooting the phone. i have read other post about gingerbreak not working.
Use SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse ..
You will need to use the preinstall method.

Ken's site give pretty decent instructions under the Gingerbread section.

Will this work with 2.3.4 stock too?
also do you need to have the boot loader unlocked too? I hope not
Yes it works with stock, no you don't need to unlock the bootloader.

Does one click root work for stock ics?

i just got my amaze yesterday, i installed the official ics OTA this morning, and now i want to root it. Does the one click root program work for the Amaze while it is on stock ics or would i have to downgrade?
I'm not sure, Look for hasoons all in one tool in the dev section. Has recoveries root and another one specifically for s off. You will find you will use his tool if you flash constantly

Hasoons tool wouldnt work for me when i updated to the WIND ICS OTA, i had to find the sudo package and install it via recovery. it did work for me in gingerbread.. just a heads up..
No one click. Read the stickies... Learn about unlocking bootloaders, 4 ext recovery, flashing superuser in recovery, and supercid. It's all rather simple. PLENTY of threads about it.

That one click does not work. It only works on GB 1.36. The exploit was fixed in 1.43 GB and newer.

Rooting now that we have ics

Hey all, I was looking to find a guide about how to root now that we have ics. I was rooted but unrooted to get the OTA. I have s on and a relocked bootloader. I assume I just unlock the bootloader again and I flash some sort of recovery then install superuser, but I would like to see a guide to make sure I am doing things right. Thanks!

If you are unrooted and s-on right now, you may never be able to root.
Someone will have to spend time finding an exploit. How many devs are working on the TB now?
But if you have S-off still, then you could possibly install an alternate recovery, like clockwork, then install su from inside cwm and obtain root that way.

He would need to be unlocked as well. If you were able to take the ota and remain unlocked and s on then yes you can download the flash able recovery and superuser and flash them both in recovery to root again.

Thanks. For some reason when I typed that I was thinking all the S-OFF boot loaders out there were all "unlocked" which is why I didn't call that out, that is not the case is it?
I had applied the unlocked, s-off, "permanent" hboot back before revolutionary, so my memory is fuzzy on this stuff.
You can root, but you cannot S-OFF.

Since the bootloader is locked it isn't possible. We don't have an exploit for it and the htc dev method doesn't work either. Until an exploit is found any new bolt owners are sol. It is unlikely an exploit will be found since there aren't any devs interested in finding an exploit.

Definitely avoid doing this. You will brick your phone.
There are a number of people exploring options at this point. If one of them is successful, a guide will be posted soon after.

Don't do this method people. I can confirm that we have a method to unlock root and s off stock ics. It isn't easy to do but it works and requires downgrading using an ruu.

It's not something that should really be pasted willy nilly across the web.
There are people there to help if you get stuck.
Translating back and forth from there to here isn't really any easier then you signing up.
If you wanna just wait, it will be incorporated into the All In One Tool fairly soon.
thanks im 90% done. Seems to work so far no issues yet. currently downgrading

New to note 2, root newest ota question...

Just got the Note 2 the other day and it took the ota. The phone is not rooted and currently on the latest.
From what I am reading I can not find a root and unlock bootloader method right now, so posting here to confirm.
Also, does anyone know a good theme that has an AOSP lockscreen and is compatible with the newest Clean ROM?
Thanks.

This method is updated for the lastest OTA.

Thanks for the info.
Seems like people are having issues with this method, hit or miss?
If I apply Casual and am success I can go ahead and install custom recovery which will block OTA update requests, is that right?
