What is the Number that gets displayed in the top right corner taking 2D pics. It flashes up briefly when camera is first displayed right after taking a pic. I have everything set to fac defaults and can't figure it out.
Reason I'm asking is b/c I have 2 3D's here(one is a exchange) and am trying to figure out which im keeping. Taking photos in the exact same location i seem to have each phone showing different values in the top corner and can't figure out why.
both ver2 hardware, one has the OTA one doesn't. The one that doesn't has dimmer/darker whites on the screen and noticed the screen on that one is actually shown as "panel: mipi_cmd_novatek_qhd" using dmesg in terminal. The new one is brighter whites, and shows "Panel Type = PANEL_ID_SHR_SHARP_NT" for it. I got the first one with the early premier offer. The 2nd one(sharp) has the brighter whites(maybe lil fake whites not sure) but screen is little less tilted, than the original one, BUT the power button is much mushier than the original which had a tough defined click. Tried switching out the battery covers and same result even.
The only number that shows up on mine is the number that displays how many pictures you can take based on the storage available. The two might display different numbers because one has the update and the other doesn't there one consuming more free space than the other.

ahhh thatd be it then haha, they both have diff cards in so that explains it all.
Now I am wondering if the cameras are lil different in the phones as even sending the pics in email to my home pc they look different so its not just the screen showing the whites difference. Also the pics ended up being different sizes one 611KB and other 776KB(older 3D with novatek panel).
Now whats even funnier is that when you select the photo in the gallery and view details the Newer3D(brighter whites) lists it at 478KB and the other 3D(original) lists its size at 613KB. This is different fromt he size thats listed when you email it, and even whats listed next to it when you attach it in an email.
What I want to know is where the setting is to time stamp your pictures. It was a basic setting in the pic app on my Hero.

I just recently switched from an Evo 4G to a new Evo 3D. After about an hour of having it I noticed something was off with the screen. It had a yellowish tint to it (I've had an Evo 4G and a Nexus S 4G do this out of the box also). Now I did return the phone to get one that had a correctly functioning screen, but my question is this: Has anyone else experienced this with the Evo 3D? I did notice that the serial number on the 3Ds with the yellowed screens were HT17 models and the one I ended up with that had a good screen was an HT16.
P.S. I just want other users thoughts on this. I don't want people telling me to just exchange the phone. Has anyone else with the HT17 models experienced this? There were three Evo 3Ds that I have seen do this.
I have an HT17 serial number and my screen is not yellowish tint at all. Very happy with the whites.
My best guess is that this Sprint store received a bad batch. Or I just have bad luck considering I have run across 5 yellowed screens across 3 different products.
I have a ht16 now and i got the yellowish screen. I had 2 before that was bright whites but I dont remember what they were. I dont know if i really wanna exchange again since everything else is good and dont want to end something worse

my original 3D was a HT16 I got through the premier order deal and had a slight tilt to the screen so I got telesales to send me another. The new one is an HT17. Now on to the differences I've noticed so far.
HT16(original)
Screen-> darker/slight yellow whites(or more realistic) when compared to the new one.
dmesg showed the following:
"panel: mipi_cmd_novatek_qhd"
"<6>[ 1.797454] mipi_novatek_panel_type_detect: panel_type=PANEL_ID_SHR_SHARP_NT"
HT17(newer just received yesterday)
brighter whites somewhat fake at times i guess you could view it.
power button was very mushy and much tougher to work compared to the HT16 which was very firm and clicky.
dmesg showed:
"<6>[ 1608.757825] Panel Type = PANEL_ID_SHR_SHARP_NT"
Now on to the odd thing. I took pictures with both phones in the exact same location and settings and you can tell when viewing on the phone the one has lil brighter(maybe faker) whites. I thought possibly that it could be just because of the screen and the photo taken would look the same on a PC but they dont. you still see the diff in whites on home PC. Also somehow the photos size were different with the HT17(brighter whites) coming in at 611KB, and the older HT16 file was 776KB.

anyone explain what I posted up at all?
I'm gonna try mine with the same picture test. How do you find the HT#? I'm sure it's so stupid obvious I'm just overlooking it.....

its on the box your phone came in and also should be under the battery.
As for your issue with the picture file size, that just sounds odd. Were both phones the same software version?
the yellowing could possibly be glue that hasnt dried all the way yet. it happens if they are moving units real fast. if this is the problem it should dry out in a few days and your whites will be white again. could be a defect too. if anyone else has this problem try giving it a few days and see if it goes away.

I've had 3 Evos...2 with the yellowish tint, and one without. I honestly don't think most people notice since it seems other colors are fine and sharpness is still good. It's only apparent usually when you go to a app or webpage with an allwhite background and even more apparent when you compare it to another phone with a nonyellow tint(which I did).
i just got a replacement yesterday and the screen has a yellow tint. i dont know if i should keep it or return it.
I'm using a HT17 and the screen is very yellow. If I max out the brightness it gets washed out and the blacks goes almost grey. Next to my Desire Z the screen doesn't even come close to representing the correct colors. I notice this especially in the search page and a blank internet page.
My Sensations had totally different screen as well. The first was nice and white and the second was yellowish... I'm so frustrated...
I noticed that side by side, the evo has cooler colors (blue tint) and I've noticed that the 3d has warmer colors (red tint). May just be the nature of the screen

is there a way to check for camera hardware manufacturers like we can for the screen?
Interesting, I wonder if the camera freezing for people is related to this at all, doesn't seem like everyone has it or maybe people don't use the camera enough.

i think its more because not many have 2 of them side by side able to compare. I know if i didn't i wouldn't know the difference or see anything wrong really.
I'd be interested in what other see when you put the attached on your phone and view it. Just drop the mpo file on the sd card under DCIM\100MEDIA and then view it via the gallery. Turn the phone landscape with the capacitive buttons on the right. When you hold the phone as you would to view any 3D image, you should be able to close one eye at a time and see two different images. If the phone has perfect separation, you'd see the word LEFT with only your left eye open and RIGHT with only the right eye open. But inevitably, you'll probably be able to see a faint ghost of the "wrong" word too ("LEFT" in the right eye or "RIGHT" in the left eye).
How much crosstalk do you see? I see a faint ghost of the "wrong" word indicating there is some crosstalk or ghosting but it's really pretty good separation. The ghosting on mine is pretty faint but I can still see the wrong (ghosted) word in each eye. The interesting thing is, on my phone, the amount of ghosting varies. On mine, the "T" in "RIGHT" is the darkest/worst.
I'm just wondering how much variation there is in our screens and if some are better than others. Be sure to close one eye at a time and fine tune the angle of the phone so you can get the best angle with the minimum possible ghosting.
Mike
Worked for me. I don't see the opposite with either eye closed. Pretty cool how that works. No ghosting at all.

Hmm. Ended up being pretty easy to take a picture of what I see through my left eye. Just use a camera and move to the left of center while looking through the viewfinder until the ghosted word is as dim as possible and take a picture. This is what mine looks like.
Mike
I Also don't see the opposite with either eye closed. Is cool indeed but wouldn't it just matter how your holding your phone ? If i slightly tilt it with one eye closed then i start to see the opposite word.

The key is to tilt the phone back and forth while closing one eye at a time so that you get the minimum amount of ghosting at one particular tilt: that's the best you'll be able to do with a real 3D image. Distance from your eyes also does make a difference so you kinda have to play with it.
Mike
Oh Lord. I hope this thread doesn't end up spawning another group of returns/exchanges. I just tested this on my wife's 3vo. Hers has a crooked screen and it doesn't show a trace of ghosting under the exact same conditions and brightness! Mine (with a straight screen) shows the ghosting problem. Not only that, hers keeps good separation through a much wider range of angles! Mine fluctuates a lot and it is VERY picky WRT angle. Completely different than hers.
One reason I tried this is that I've always felt that my first 3vo, one with a crooked screen, had better 3D depth and my new one with the straight screen just didn't have the same depth. Now I know why. I guess with these screens you either get a crooked screen or bad 3D. Wonder if there are any out there that have both a straight screen and good 3D? Both phones are HT16 serial numbers and 0002 hardware so they should have the same screen, right? If so, there seems to be some variation in how well the 3D works on these screens.
Mike
I guess I need to change my name. From this point forward you shall all refer to me as Ima. Ima Weetodd.
I looked through the 3D samples and the one with the river, rocks, and the mountains in the background looked especially bad. You could see ghosts of the rocks on either side and it really ruined the 3D effect. The Garfield 3D trailer from YouTube looked horrible too: hard to even resolve a single image. Visions of me going back to the Sprint store for a second exchange started to enter my mind. Until...
Guess what? I never would have expected this! I cleaned my screen thoroughly and NO ghosting at all now!!! It didn't even look dirty but apparently a thin film of finger grease is all that was needed to cause the ghosting. Apparently there was just enough refraction to cause a decent portion of the wrong side to get through to each eye. I repeated the separation test and looked at the pics/videos again with a clean screen: zero ghosting. Just to be sure I wasn't insane or switching the screen off/on wasn't what caused it, I actually rubbed my hands all over my face and then over the screen until I could see a faint film. I'm not a particularly greasy dude but that's all it tool: ghosts galore came back.
I guess if nothing else, I've learned a dirty screen REALLY affects 3D and if anyone has any question about whether or not their 3D is working properly, the image attached to the OP should serve us well.
Mike
I'm returning mine now I see ghosting
J/k . mine has absolutely no ghosting at all, the screen Has a slight tilt and its horribly dirty right now.
Funny I had at 3d with a strait screen that I return , and I always felt the 3d effect was better on it

Something else I noticed. This is proof positive that the phone does support 3D in portrait mode. Bring up the image in portrait and look at it. It is VERY sensitive to angle and there is a little ghosting but at just the right angle, it does work. Holding the phone portrait, only "LEFT" shows to the left eye and "RIGHT" shows to the right eye. If you are off even a fraction of a degree though, you start seeing the words appear in various primary colors as you tilt the phone. At just the right angle (face-on), it does appear to fully support 3D in portrait.
Mike
Have you tried using the wand icon to correct the issue? Mine works perfectly although I do feel I need to hold it with the right side of phone slightly closer to my face rather than straight on.

The "Adjust 3D alignment" feature adjusts how far apart the two frames appear via shifting the frames in/out a certain number of pixels. That will have no affect on ghosting: ghosting/crosstalk is an error in the alignment of the two parallax barriers on the screen. That gap/angle is not adjustable.

I've seen this issue on two ROMs now where I take a picture and rather than ending up with the sharp review picture shown on the screen right after, I end up with a blurry image that was taken about 1/4 second later. I've seen this running both Euphoria and Slim. I'm wondering if it's a known issue that I haven't been able to find info on (I've searched but most people just seem to care about FFC) or if somehow I'm causing this.
If you aren't sure if you're seeing this but have a moment to experiment, try the following:
1) Get your significant other, family member or friend to stand in a brightly lit room.
2) While you're aiming your camera at them have them start turning in a circle. Doesn't have to be fast but shouldn't be really slow either.
3) Take their picture and remember the position they were in when the review still was displayed after the picture was taken.
Now compare your memory of what the camera showed to you with the result in the gallery.
I consistently see that the picture that was stored was taken about 1/4 second after the review I saw after taking the picture. It's also usually less sharp.
---
btw, the problem can also be shown by just panning the phone and taking a picture during the pan. If you end up with something recognizable in the review image you may find that the final image doesn't match.
Hmmm.. all seems well in ICZenwich
Hmm. Wish I had the luxury of installing ICZ just to find out if that camera doesn't have the problem or if this is a problem with my phone somehow, or how I'm restoring apps badly. I'm otherwise happy with Slim so I'm reluctant to install a new ROM since I just put this one on a couple of days ago.
If nobody else chimes in I'll try ICZ this weekend.

Here some sample of picture I took with ICZenwich, Just basic setting.
mostdef, I think you've misunderstood the problem. None of those images show motion. With the subject standing still you'd never see the problem I'm describing. It's when the subjects are in motion or the camera is in motion (panning) that you may see the issue.
I've also seen it on Slim and Zen.
Looks like the actual picture is taken a sec after the camera display actually clicks and show you the preview. The trick is to remain still after the camera says its taken the picture. You get a picture that is a sec after the phone assume you take it. However, if you move the phone right after the camera clicks, then the picture is ruined. Same thing as if you take a picture as your arm is moving.

I'm glad it's not just me or my phone but that's messed up.
The biggest issue is that the review picture the camera shows is not what you end up with. There's no point in having the review image show up after a picture is taken if it's going to be wrong.
It doesn't matter how still you hold the camera if what you're taking the picture of is in motion.
I can't believe more people aren't talking about this

I installed the BoA mobile banking app. It came with a check deposit feature. That said, you need to take two pictures, one of the front another of the back. I had no issue to take the image of the front of the check, but had trouble to take the back side.
The back side of the check is relatively white/blank, so it's hard for the camera to focus, and I cannot just tap the check to change the focus point.
Any one experienced this and had a solution?

Have you tried taking a photo while it still appears blurry (maybe in camera app so as not to send a blurry pic to the bank) ?
I often take photos of things up close and while they may appear blurry, even after I tap to focus, they come out quite sharp... Anyway, probably worth a try!
Have you tried any camera apps from Google Play?

A long shot from my photography book ...
But the auto focus in the camera needs a contrast color as a reference point ...
As you know ...the camera ignores the white color as empty space ...and looks for solid base colors to focus against ...
If your bank will allow it ...you can set the check on top of a dark piece of paper ...as this may assist the lens with focus distance.
Or ..if you are allowed to sign your name on the back in black ink ...that would help also ..
And of course ....distance from the image is important too ...
Stay out at least 12 inches or more and zoom manually if needed to capture .
That's my .02 on the camera ....g

Thanks for your tips!
I actually have signed the check with black ink, but it's on top of the check, which means, when I tried to focus on the check, the camera by default always used the central point to focus. I cannot write anything below the line, which may void the check.
Currently the only effective way that I can take a sharp image was under bright light. That said, a normal 40w ceiling light won't work.

Also put the check on a black background and then take the front and back pictures. I had the same trouble until I put the check on my black keyboard and took the pictures and it works the first time.
Now that feature is crashing the app on version 4.2.55 of the BofA app.
I use B of A app to deposit my checks. My app has little corner guides. When u get them lined up around the corners of the check push the button. I dont even look at the focus or anything else. Photo comes out fine and bank accepts it..

Solution
Sorry if I'm reviving an old thread, but I had the same problem and got it to work at least for me. At first I was trying to line up the check's corners with the guide corners in the app when taking the picture. It kept having a problem until I finally zoomed out a little bit. I guess having the camera that close to the check wasn't allowing it to focus correctly. Hopefully that helps someone else.

Actually the root cause is that the camera always wants to focus on the central point. That's why it can focus the front side of the check - there are a lot of contents, but not the back side - it's all white and blank.
BoA seems to accept a pen on top of the check image and I successfully did it multiple times.
Zoom out seems to be an other solution, too.
Thanks!
