What are the odds of this happening? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

To try and condense what all has transpired . Yesterday I returned a Gtab to Staples due to issues, they gave me a hard time and then told me they only had opened boxes in the back, so I declined and got a refund. This morning I called Staples CS and was told they were sorry about the way I was treated but would not give me a raincheck and just basically said item is out of stock on line and in all stores. I proceeded to BB which is about 1 hour and change away from me. I was taking back the keyboard I purchased for the Gtab. While at BB I approached the mgr and asked if they would accept the staples coupon and he said NO and just walked away. SO I returned home. I then found a Staples which was right next to BB and they had a acer Iconia left in stock and would accept the coupon. I decided to make the hour trip again and on the way I stopped at BB again and almost bought the Asus at regular price but decided to go on to Staples. At Staples I found that the acer was a display model and left and started home and then decided once again to stop at BB. I tried to get a salesperson to help me and the first one said he was busy and he rounded up another sales rep to help me. Just for giggles I asked him if he would honor the coupon on the Gtab and he said we just got an email stating we were to resume honoring the coupon if the closest store had that item in stock. I knew they did not but said ok and he then asked which Gtab did I want? I said the white 16gb he pulled it out of the case and went to his register he then rang it up and when the checkout girl questioned it he said he was doing it per the email they had just received saying it was okay to do it. I was overjoyed. I hurried home and upon unboxing and plugging it in to charge the battery I turned it on for the first time and LO AND BEHOLD IT IS UNLOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just sitting here in amazement. From not having the device and apparently no chance to get one at $100 off to having one with $100 off and UNLOCKED. I am truly GRATEFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

about 12 dollars in gas. So I am still way ahead and have a unlocked tab to boot.

Oh man that is great!! You were having so many problems and I am very happy that you were able to get one. And to boot you received an unlocked one, I am extremely jealous!!!
I tried a few times to get BB to honor the coupon to try and get the 32gb model and hopes to get one that is unlocked but no luck.

According to the sales rep that fixed me up BB sent out an email last night about 8pm to all stores that it was ok to honor the coupon. He also stated that they were to check the nearest Staples to make sure they had stock on hand, athough he did not do it. So You might try again at the same store or different stores if there are any in your area. Good luck!!!

Anyone else had problems exchanging at Staples?

After over 6 hours on the phone with Samsung support (until 2:30 am on SAt.) I was told to take the device back(stock and unrooted) and exchange or get a refund. I called Staples and was assured that they had PLENTY in stock(their words) so I made the 45 minute drive (one way) and upon arriving at the store the cashier was very polite but said she must talk to Mgr. The mgr shows up and says "oh your bringing back another one,(with a huge smirk on his face) I said yes I had tried very hard to resolve the issues with support but could not. The mgr continued to smirk and look at me like "yeah right" He said he must call his district mgr he left and the cashier apologized for him saying"He should not have treated you like that. The mgr returned and still had the same smirk on his face. and said "what do you want to do?" I replied, I will try another one ( I had purchased one a week and a half ago and returned it for refund after 3 days.) He said just a moment and went to the store room and when he came back he said I can exchange it for one in an opened box, I replied NO WAY!!. He then said that they had 2 in the back and both were opened, I said what happend to the plenty I was told on the phone? I then asked for a refund and he whispered something to the girl and smirked again and left. The cashier then all of a sudden had all of this info about stock in the backroom etc. I firmly believe that they did not want to exchange the device and would rather refund and look for others to come in and buy their stock.(opened and unopened) The cashier apologized once again for the mgr's actions. I got the number for corporate and will call tomorrow. Upon reading the coupon it says coupon good only while supplies last. That could mean that all stores were only shipped a very few. I now have no coupon and no device. I had just returned the TF I had been trying and decided to stick with the Gtab and had purchased a Samsung keyboard for it at BB. Anyone else have problems with Staples?
I will not shop at Staples again after the way I was treated when my wife and I went to the store to buy my Samsung Tab, was treated very rudely by a manager, ended up driving 45min to BB the next day to buy my tab. Guess they didn't want my money!!
To make a long story short, website said in stock, went to store, young kid said oh yeah we have some in the back but I can't go back and get them. Asked to speak to a manager,she said it was too much work to get it out of the back and I should buy a Xoom because it has an sd card (funny huh?) I exchanged several intense sentences with the manager and left the store and will not ever go back in one. I pulled our business away from them on our business side as well. Doesn't hurt me any, I order from other places now.
While at BB purchasing the keyboard a man and his girl friend saw the keyboard and asked me how I liked the Gtab. I replied I really liked it but might have to return it for issues. He then stated that he was going to attempt to get BB to honor the coupon for the Gtab. I told him I had tried that at another BB and it was a no go. Well about 2 minutes later the mgr showed up and told him no problem. So perhaps there is a chance I can get the same BB to honor a coupon when I find one. I am going to return the keyboard as it would not function properly(called samsung support and they could not help me get it to be recognized by the Gtab. I will try to purchase the device with coupon.

Maybe Staples has caught wind of people trying to return locked GT's to try and find unlocked ones, or at least that store did. Kinda like what I wanted to do but decided not to, not worth the hassle and gas with a perfectly fine GT.
I was going to keep trying to get BB to honor the coupon because I wanted the 32gb version, but my first attempt at my local BB failed. So I decided that was not worth the gas and hassle so yesterday I had the Ghost Armor screen protector put on, no returning now.

was not trying to get an unlocked one(would have been nice though) just one without a lot of issues. Samsung support after over 6 hours urged me to take it back for an exchange.

I am not questioning your motive or reason, I would do the same in your shoes. Just saying maybe they have had people doing that, I was about to do that, and he just did not believe you. Which is totaly wrong, he should smile and take the tablet back from you and give you a new one.

Just got off phone with CS at Staples and what a waste of time. They acknowledge that the mgr was wrong in his actions but the item is out of stock and they have no idea when it will come back in stock again. When it does I must pay full price or whatever the going rate is at the time. They will not issue a rain check. Just checked and All of the stores in my area(within 50 miles) now show not available at store for the Gtab and the acer Iconia. What a ripoff. They just decided that the coupon (!00) was too good of a deal and just pulled it from the stores.
You could have exchanged it for an open box unit and then waited for some new ones to do another exchange later. Maybe one of the open box units was like new? The coupon is good until 7/30 so you can keep checking local stock.
And what was wrong with your tab? (just curious...)

Wow that is terrible, so sorry to hear that. Maybe try and bring coupon to BB and see if they will honor it, there have been some success stories of that happening. I think the coupon is good till the 30th, maybe you can get lucky at a BB. They should have given you the rain check since you were able to purchase it in the first place and you recevied one that was faulty.
If I were you I would try one of the open box items, maybe there is nothing wrong with one of them. If you still get the 14 day return policy you can test that one out and if something wrong finally return it or possibly exchange that one in 14 days when they may have more in stock?

It had almost constant black screen freezes and youtube videos would not play without FC. Also constant Samsung apps FC. Also it refused to acknowledge the samsung keyboard I purchase for it. I tried all of the fixes mentioned in this forum and also spend over 6 hours with samsung support to no avail.
Interesting stories about Staples customer service. I bought a 16 GB Galaxy Tab from Staples on the first day of the coupon offer, and got an unopened, unlocked unit that I am very happy with.
But, before I said I wanted to buy one, the salesperson would not go to get one out of the back (so I could examine the specs on the box), which I found strange. And, once I said I wanted to buy, he pushed like crazy to get me to buy the protection plan ($230 on a $400 purchase!!), over and over again, which was very annoying.
I would have much preferred to buy at BB if I knew they would have honored the coupon, but I did end up with a well-performing Tab.

UPDATE: I ended up going to BB and was turned down by mgr and then later that day I found out a staples near BB had one in stock (acer iconia and Motorola xoom) upon arriving there it turned out one was display unit(acer iconia) and the price on the Xoom was 599 instead of 499.00.I decided against both of them. Stopped by BB on way home and was considering buying a TF at full price. Just for fun I asked the sales rep to help me and he replied he was busy and then got this other rep to help me. I asked him if he would honor the staple coupon and he said funny you should ask we just got an email from corporate(he showed it to me) and we are authorized to honor the coupon (just the devices listed in email) if the store nearest us has it in stock I knew the closest store did not so just said if you honor it I will buy the Gtab. He then asked me what color -size etc and I replied 16gb white and he pulled one out of the cage. I thought he would call the nearest Staples but he did not. He just rang it up and told the girl at the main counter it was done according to the email just received. When I got home and unboxed it I found that it was UNLOCKED!!!!! I am go grateful. To be able to get a good Grab in the color I preferred from the start and to find it unlocked is just Amazing. Keep trying BB if you have not picked up a tab with the 100.00 coupon yet.

Availability at ABT 12/20! (out of stock)

Just called them this morning, did not even know they where going to be selling them. The said they filled pre orders on a first come first serve basis. I went to the store and pre-ordered there, and received my 32 GB champagne Tablet withen 20 minutes.
*NOTE* they only have the 32 GB Champagne color.
Unfortunately it is a Christmas gift, so I will not be able to give any information on it.
EDIT: They will apparently ship even though it says in store pickup online. Just use the Chat.

i called on the phone and got one.. they are shipping it to me.. he said there was 3 left and he had 28 web chats for the same product to be shipped but i got one of the 3.
Well if you live in Illinois you might be lucky enough to get a Champagne model. They definitely don't have the Grey in-store yet.
I just called for an online order and I was told I'd have to wait until mid-January if I ordered from them.

They told me in store that they would receives a trickle of tablets everyday so I'd call every day as they seem to be the most helpful.
I bought mine from Kevin if that helps.
they charged my card and sent me an invoice.. my guess is tomorrow i will get a notice that it will not ship and i will be out the money and have to wait for them to refund my money.
This is getting ridiculous. They are showing up in flashes at places we never expected from all the announcements, then they are gone before anyone can react!
I've never chased a pre-order like this before - completely out of control....

Got an order in with a CSR. Started an online chat session right after I saw this thread open. Originally the CSR said that they didn't have any of the models in, but then said he'll check one more time.
After a couple minutes, he told me they had 5 left of the Champagne 32gb only. They had originally received 15, but 10 were accounted for by preorder.
He then gave me his telephone number and told me to call right away.
I called, and we went ahead with the order. Luckily, I've already been an ABT customer, so all my info was in the system. Just had to give them my credit card info.
Chose 2-day shipping, and was told I should get it on Friday.
I received a PDF invoice through email, but my order isn't showing up online yet ( crosses fingers).
This is absolutely crazy. I've had preorders in at 5 or 6 retailers, and it's come down to this?
The funny thing is, I was just shipped a gray dock yesterday from Best Buy. Gray dock and Champagne tablet? lol.

I am having trouble believeing it, but it's true. I JUST got off with a supervisor at ABES:
Just got off my THIRD call with Dishonest ABE.
They don't have a SINGLE KEYBOARD DOCK IN THEIR WAREHOUSE OF EITHER COLOR!!! I don't know about tablets, but I had:
Call 1: "Processing" should be all set
Call 2: "Uh, we ill have them in 4-6 days, should go out Tuesday Wednesday of last week" - This was where I get REALLY concerned.....
Call 3: - Supervisor: The guy TOLD US WE WOULD HAVE THEM, but it fell through, and we don't know WHEN we are going to have them."
"Then why did you put "AVAILABLE" on your site, instead of Coming soon, pre-order - 4-6 days, etc..."
"Cause he said.... " I was like oh **** YOU I am so sick of these BS lies. You put AVAILABLE when you HAVE THEM... NOT BEFORE ****head!!!
It's BS. They either have NONE or got a few and freaking oversold just like Amazon, Best Buy and the rest of the free world. Is Asus distribution channel run by insane asylum escapees or WHAT????? The one common element here os ASUS. Certainly all of these retailers didn't go eveil overnight or something (though some ALWAYS were, BestBuy)

I just got off the phone with these liars. I told him the order page is back to saying 2-3 days, he apologized for the misinformation said it'd be about 1-2 weeks.
Think I'm going to find another source and cancel on these vermin.
As far as I can tell no merchant has them in-stock right now so it's really ASUS who's slow on the delivery of these. They obviously weren't shipping keyboards in conjunction with the tablets.
Just can't trust a company that says "Of Maine" yet is in NYC
My order status changed to "sent to warehouse" last night. Having no idea what that means, I called, and was told that they have it, it is being prepped to ship today, will be sent tomorrow AM, and I should have my dock on Wednesday.
Sorry some of you got shafted, but they do/did have some in stock.

Fwiw, I ordered Thursday, immediately after seeing the "in stock" thread. That is likely the difference. I do not understand this manager saying it is not there though, uless he meant that it is coming in today, and the OP's place in line didn't make the cut for place in line versus items received. The swearing probably didn't help either, even though I fully empathize on the frustration level. :-\

Just got the email too.
Don't know where to go from here. No body had any in-stock last I checked. Gamestop had no date, and neither did Amazon.
Like a few others, I ordered late Thurs night when the status was "available ". My credit card was charged Friday, I was notified it was "in process" for 1-3 days, now today my status shows "shipped to warehouse ". I am confident in will get mine in a day or two. Am I pleased I paid $40 for express shipping and it's going to take 4 or 5 business days? No. But I think did not read where it clearly states it cn take 1-3 days to process so that is on me.
I'm sorry for those of you who ordered when it said "available " and aren't getting yours. I blame their stock tracking/ordering software more than the company being "dishonest ", I really doubt they tried to intentionally screw anyone. They actually seem like one of the few able to make deliver and are being up front about when they will get future stock.

What is the status of your order, was your cc charged, did/does it show as shipped to warehouse?
I bought my pad off of newegg.com last thursday. They have been showing up periodically, only when they actually have stock availible. In most states they don't charge sales tax and they ship very quick. I'm seeing only the grey docking station listed on their site at the moment but it is out of stock. All you can do is keep checking periodically as they will show up but sell really fast. But at least if you see it's in stock and buy it, you'll get it. This is one of the most reputable sites on the net.

It's not like I'm out anything if it does cancel - I've not seen any others available or I would have ordered more for friends/backup anyway. If it gets canceled I get my money back and continue the search and wait. If I'd ordered the damn Grey to begin with this wouldn't be a problem, I would have both from BB, but I ordered champagne.

don't cancel, you probably are going to get it.
I never seen the "shipped to warehouse" status, I only got "In Process" when I ordered.
I'm not canceling mine either despite receiving the two emails that they oversold. In part because he still gave an end time of when they will get more in, while the other online retailer don't provide any info when they will get more in.

perhaps us over here in Blighty are not so hard done by after all!! Whilst we are yet to get the TFP we will get it with the dock and our retailers do not normally tale 2-3 days to process an order as we can order of some sites up until 8-10pm and still get next day delivery.
Now I am seeing the positives of living on a "small island" as Bill Bryson would say.

I agree but at the time of purchase, Fry's was selling it at $499 and Amazon for $650!!! for almost $700 (tax included), I got both they keyboard and the Prime where Amazon would have been $800 more.
Plus, no wait.

I went into shock when I saw that too
You just have to wait for amazon to offer it as a official seller (how I got mine).
But I get next day shipping for 3.99 with my free 6 months of amazon prime.

Actually, Amazon has never sold the Prime for anything more than its retail price ($499 for 32GB, $599 for 64GB). Those inflated prices are by people just using Amazon as a storefront. Worse than the inflated price, maybe, is that you don't likely get the same return policy as with Amazon. Basically, buying from those people is pretty much exactly like buying off of eBay.

I got the last one Fry's has on any of their stores in So. Cal. a couple of week ago. I drove from O.C. (Santa Ana) to Oxnard in Ventura county to get it but luckily I had work to do there so my company (I drive a company car) paid for the gas to go there and get it. My gps doesn't work but I was aware of the problem when I purchased it, that is why I still use a Garmin Nuvi 660 for my gps navigation.

While a phones GPS is good in a pinch, i love my nuvi too

I ordered mine from Gamestop online. It's Going to be here Tomorrow (2/20). I ordered it Wednesday (2/15). It would of been here Friday (2/17) Originally, paid $24 to overnight it. Since I never purchased on Gamestop.com with that expensive of a order & different shipping address from Billing address, the system put it on hold till I called from my Billing phone number (Never received email they said they sent). That was Thursday (2/16). Next day called up, to find out cause still never got my shipping notification email. something happened where kicked that error up again, this time the rep said to ship it's verified. Later that day Friday (2/17) i received the email saying there was a issue to call this phone number. This point I am getting way beyond pissed, so called yet again, lady said no it's all set that she just sent emails out. It will be here Tuesday. So I said that's it, I'm NEVER shopping at Gamestop again. I buy all my games and accessories for all my consoles there. I have PSP, PS3, WII, XBOX 360. Plus I purchase their powerup subscription. She was very apologetic for all my issues, explained why everything happened. Then she have me the overnight shipping for free.
On Wednesday before I ordered I wanted to make sure they had it available,.only one they had was the grey 32GB Bundle. It comes with a Bluetooth controller (Looks like a aftermarket PS3 controller). He said that there was a few hundred left of that, but are going fast.

Few hours later I got email with tracking number I go on UPS to check, sure enough it said Monday.

not so great for canadians but for US its awesome. For me i just bookmarked the Bestbuy, futureshop, visions, and memoryexpress websites to check every day if they had them in stock and i got lucky. Easy as that!

Thanks man. Oddly it is saying my local Game Stop at the mall has stock "been checking for days" lol & swore i checked today. But sure enough it says tonight after they are closed they have some. Gonna call first thing in the am. If they don't i'll order one. I hate waiting, even for 1 day .

mine got just backordered again hahah so funny.. i wanted to get it asap
so i had to cancel my preorder this morning and placed another order with the fastest shipping method (btw i gave up my free case and upgrade fee went up to $36 from $18.. )because
at that time bb webbie cleary said it would be shipped within 1~2 days . now
it is back to being backordered.. im not blaming anyone on this since its my fault.. peace out fellas..

I just got an email "Problem with order" from bestbuy, its all fixed. For some reason all they wanted was to confirm my shipping account since it was different than the billing address. So I am gonna guess they are shipping out today, about time!
Mine still says "order in process of being fulfilled" from yesterday. Anxiously awaiting a shipment confirmation.

Mine still says "Order in process of being fulfilled; Usually ships in null - null days," as it has for about a day. C'mon BB...
Mine shipped out via UPS Next Day Air this morning, arrived this morning, I missed the delivery, and I'll be picking it up later today. By the time I received the shipment email from BB, it had already been attempted to be delivered. Apparently it shipped out yesterday (2/20), but BB's system never updated me to let me know when to expect delivery.
I'm on the phone with Best Buy, and apparently the issue with att still isn't resolved, wth? and thats why they haven't been able to ship it. If I wouldn't have called I would have never known there was an issue.
Picked mine up a couple of hours ago from my local UPS distribution center, still getting used to the whole Android OS.
Still waiting on mine, slaps self for not picking in store pickup, or overnight , did get my 50.00 dollar bestbuy giftcard email. Should be in Friday.
