[Q] Audio lag - Motorola Droid X2

After applying p3's update do you experience any audio lag? Mine seems fine unless I am multitasking, but I've only played with it for a little bit. Launching virtually any app causes audio lag for me.

I get the lag too. It is not as bad as pre-rooted Froyo though.
VM heap size needs to be increased, that alone would probably fix that. Not sure of the safest way to do it.

I'm sure I'd agree if I knew what that meant

[Q] Serious stutter in SNESDroid

Hi!
I just wanna check with some other ppl that are using SNESDroid with their Primes and are running ICS. No matter what game I play, I get stutters now and then. The emulator halts for a sec and then just continues like nothing happened. I'm using a PS3 controller when playing. Tried with and without the cable, doesn't make a difference. And I've checked the keybindings. There are no duplicates there either.
But here's the interesting part. It happens alot more when hooked to a TV via HDMI! Starting to think it's either a problem with ICS or the Prime having a hard time deciding how many CPUs to use for the app. I happen to know that these sorts of lags/stutters can occur because of it. Very annoying because the gameplay is otherwise sooo smooth >.<. I've tried changing the powerprofile but no difference.
The emulator does occasionally kick you to the mainmenu for some reason. Might be related to that too? Only seems to happen when not connected to a TV :S. The Youtube videos I've seen only mention this problem, not the one I've been having. Reinforcing that this might be a problem only I'm having...
Hope that you ppl can confirm and/or help me fix it . Thanks!
I don't have stuttering issue with snesdroid. for most part it plays pretty well. I have noticed a few times it kicking back to the load rom screen. its the app itself. it needs to be updated again and more optimized. majority of time it works great.
do your save states work on it? I never can seem to get it to work.
I have SnesDroid, Genedroid, FPse, N64oid, Neodroid(my favorite. plays and looks really good), & DoomGLES(best doom emulator out there. has updated 3d graphics, lighting effects, and more)

Interesting hmm... Ok what firmware are you running? Are you stock? Where do you store the games? If on a SD card, what brand and speed? "Oddly" enough my save/loadstates work perfectly. Really starting to think that it's the app... Probably not so good with ICS and/or multicore CPUs :S. I don't seem to have any problems with Fpse etc.
I'm on the latest firmware .15 on the prime. I'm still on stock rom but rooted and overclocked to 1.6Ghz. I store all my games on the device itself. haven't went out and bought a nice size memory card yet. all rom files except FPse ones are small. PlayStation roms are the big ones. maybe that's why I don't experience any stutter. prime will read rom data faster off the device itself. maybe you need a faster/higher class memory card. so prime can read it faster.

I'm on the same firmware. But not rooted (shouldn't make a difference) or overclocked. I tried running games off of the internal memory, no difference. But I kinda knew that since I'm using a Samsung 32Gb Class 10 MicroSD card >.<. Could you try playing some games on stock speed? Preferably via HDMI since that makes it more obvious. And last but not least. What setting you using in the app? Frameskip? Stretch Sounds?
Thanks!

rooting and overclock doesn't make a difference. I play most of the time on stock speeds and use the default set up in snesdroid. I don't change anything as it works good as is. its only FPse and neodroid that I may change some settings. have you tried uninstalling then installing again? maybe even a soft reset, which won't delete any data but will clear any faulty coding and files.
I wish I could find a dreamcast emulator or a 3DO one. I just got the TurboGraphix16 one and works great.

Thanks! That narrows it down to app settings. I know I've changed them so gonna restore the default settings and try again . I heard about a Dreamcast emulator online. But apparently the guy working on it has kept it for himself so far =/. Maybe in the future...
Sorry to bump old post. I had another user experience this same issue. I'm trying to track down possible causes.
One setting to adjust for sure is the audio stretch. Reduce it to 0, if you hear no crackles then great.

I'm pretty sure I've never noticed stutters from SNESoid. From PSX4Droid and N64oid sure, but not SNESoid.
I disable audio though because I'm always listening to music, maybe that helps?

I use it on most of my phones....I noticed my memory from using stock task manger it goes to around 150-180mb ram left....which shows a huge difference compared to how stock uses memory..but I also noticed a lot of lag in my keyboard...so I went back to just stock....just use a few build tweaks you find suitable....I use the wifi scan. mot delay on phone and ring delay tweaks.
I have a question as well ?..why is are dalvik heap size 128mb ?...all other devices and galaxy s2 and skyrocket have the most 48.... people change it 48mb in most build prop tweaks....but cannot figure out why are devices are set so high?...can that be a bad thing?
Does it really make a difference?
Using the 1000HP setting on mine I feel things are a lot snappier (could always be a placebo effect), but the memory management is a bit too aggressive for me. I can't run any navigation software in the background with it enabled, and many of my chat apps won't stay open for long while multitasking.
I'll probably reset back to stock before I go to bed and see if I notice a difference tomorrow.

Actually I tried 768 after the first time I noticed it was killing my navigation, but that just made everything laggy for whatever reason. Enabling the lag nullifier didn't seem to make a difference, so I went back to 1000.
Last night I reverted back to stock and left it to charge overnight. Today everything seems much better. Dead Space and Shadowgun were nearly unplayable while using the supercharger, but I tried them both today and they run quite fluidly and nice. Everything seems to be snappier and just run better without the supercharger. This phone really doesn't seem to need it like some of my other devices.

Graphics Slow and Choppy

Hey guys, I was recently trying out a few games on my Rezound, namely Real Racing 2 and Let's Golf 3. I was wondering... does anyone else seem to have issues with really choppy graphics with these games? The frame rate dips to really low but it seems like it's just capped at a low speed and not hiccuping.
I'm wondering if it's my device or if it's a known issue cause I'd imagine the Adreno GPU we're using isn't complete garbage.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
I'm also experiencing laggyness and slow frame rate on temple run and switch. Our rezounds should easily handle these games.
same issues here im afraid. ics is pretty laggy as is.
Maybe an issue with your ROM and kernel?
Just theorycrafting.

Hmm, Sorry about that I forgot to mention I'm on stock gingerbread right now.
Maybe HTCs not updating our drivers?
I am on Nils Gingersense with stock kernel. Temple run performs perfectly for me. Maybe there is something taxing the processor/gpu? Shadowgun also is smooth.

I just put mine down from playing Temple Run. It runs buttery smooth. Not one single hick-up. My girlfriend was amazed how smooth and crisp the graphics were. I've got a CPU load monitor bar app that shows the load. It RARELY hits 100%. It's usually hovering around the 70-80% area on Temple Run.

I can pretty much play all games. I have long been a doubter of snapdragon chipsets GPU since my OG incredible. I'm currently unlocked, running completely stock with the exception of the unlock. I figured I'd see how the newer adreno 220 fairs with the HD screen and have been extremely happy with graphics performance and ill be the first one to admit that this blows my GNex out of the water. So much so that I've since sold that phone in favor of more storage, better screen, better camera and overall better phone.

I have not used ics yet, so I don't know where exactly it is in settings. but there is an option for force gpu rendering. try enabling it.
What rom and kernel are you currently using?
You may just be unlucky or I may be lucky. I've never had any lag issues on any configuration I have used so far. I can't imagine you have tons of background processes also running.

[Q] Why are Stock ICS launchers so choppy?

I have tried every ROM available, senseless or with sense; and whenever I run Apex or Nova, the scrolling is low quality, laggy, and choppy. I've tried setting different scrolling times with no avail. Is their some sort of optimization that stock ics has that sense phones don't? I'd love to know if I can fix the issue, or at least figure out what's causing it.

People's perceptions vary. It's the same for them as it is for you. They've probably never seen the launchers running at a full 60 fps on a Galaxy Nexus and have no clue they're getting subpar performance.
It seems to boil down to unimplemented acceleration for some functions in the graphics driver (if sense doesn't use it, they don't need to support it). Don't bother with the 218 drivers, either, they aren't any better.
i dont know why more people dont use nova.. its the smoothest launcher for me.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
That's why I left Apex for LauncherPro. Not ICS, but fast as hell.
I emailed the programmer for Nova and he told me it might have something to do with our leaks not including the proper 3D or graphics libraries.
I do know exactly what you mean, when flipping desktops with Sense, it looks like we get 60 frames per second and it's super smooth. With Apex, Nova or GO, it's still fast but the framerate drops down a LOT.
What's weird is that when opening the app drawer, all those launchers become really fast and really smooth. It's only when flipping desktop pages. Even with no wallpaper scroll it's choppy.
Same problem here. I tried flashing the Adreno 220 update but it lowered benchmark scores and didn't improve the responsiveness of Apex.
Guess I'm stuck with Ultrasmooth Rosie, I don't really like the Sense app drawer (neither 3.6 nor 4.0) but I'll take 60fps over 10fps.

My thought was that the libraries just fell back to software for some functions, and that was why it was slow. We certainly have the necessary library files, but that doesn't mean all the hooks were properly implemented.

For me, the app drawer in Nova is choppy until you get to the widgets section, which is ultra smooth. Apex's app drawer is adequately fast. Both home screens are terrible, though.
This is also quite irksome for me because it also seems to affect Chrome's performance, and I'd really like to use that.
One can only hope at this stage that the official OTA is different and properly accelerates the missing drawing functions.

Actually I have used a Galaxy Nexus, and the only thing that my Rezound does not compare too would be Jelly Bean on the Nexus. I switched things up lately though to sense 3.6 to run Tablet mode again though and I Still dont have any performance issues, Even on Apex Launcher. Both on Sense 4 and on 3.6.
Although I would agree that when running Tablet mode, Nova runs a tad choppy, but Apex is still beasting it!

I had a Galaxy Nexus, too, and the home screen was much smoother when scrolling. Are you saying you're getting 60 fps with your Rezound?
What about with Chrome? Is your scrolling there 60 fps or does it stutter?
I'm curious about the Droid Incredible 4g now, too. I'm wondering if it does or doesn't have this issue. I pulled the Adreno drivers from its image and tried them and it makes no difference on this phone.

So far its super smooth, I have a friend I work with too that has a Nexus and he says I did a good job setting up. We did side by sides and it keeps up very well with his ICS Nexus, then he Put JB on and I lose lol.
For Chrome I dont know, I never use it, I use stock ICS Browser or even ICS + (The Stock runs better than ICS + [Although I'm sure they are the exact same thing?]). Only issue I have is that stuff shows up kinda small since I'm running Tablet Mode now.
Also what's the purpose of the Adreno drivers? I read the thread on it a while back when they first pulled them from some other device, but dont remember what they were for.

Saying it's "super smooth" doesn't mean anything, because it might mean something different to you than us. I was looking to quantify things. If you know what 60 fps looks like, you can definitely say whether or not you're achieving that. I can say that this phone does not reach 60 fps in the cases I mentioned. A Galaxy Nexus does.
I use ICS Browser+ as well, as it doesn't seem to suffer from the stuttering issue. If you're willing to test, it's simple enough to download Chrome and check if scrolling is smooth like it is in the stock browser or ICS Browser+.
The Adreno drivers are just that: the drivers for the Adreno 200 series of graphics hardware. They are an implementation of EGL and OpenGL ES for the GPU in the phone. The theory was, being newer, that they would be faster or have improved acceleration and/or power management. From testing, I haven't seen any qualitative benefits to using anything other than the stock drivers, and people have said their benchmark numbers aren't any different, either.

I agree with you that saying Super Smooth doesnt really mean much to everyone else, but without any real method of measuring the true FPS at the moment makes it even tougher. Although I can truthfully say that it seems to be matching the smoothness of the Nexus so far, if its not a full 60fps then its pretty DARN close lol.
For Chrome I'll be testing in a few when I get out from work and I'll post what my findings are. Never used Chrome on Phone mode or Tablet mode lol.
I might try out those Drivers see if it makes it even better....ish? Although If you guys havent had much luck with your rezounds then I assume I won't have much luck either. Either way i'll Try that out too. Anyone have a link to it?
Yep, this was the main reason why I stopped using de-sensed roms with apex/nova/trebuchet and switched to sense roms. Just couldn't take the choppiness anymore

Installed on my Stock but rooted prime now. Appears to eliminate all the stock browser lag I used to have. It's now blazing fast, and I can scroll while its still loading stuff which I was never able to do before. Holy mother of all fixes it seems like:good:
I installed it last night on my prime. It does lot for my prime. I also did some of the early investigation to what was really being fixed by this hack. I am glad Cyanogen has confirmed some of my theories. If you are rooted I would highly recommend installing it.

Tried this and also read up a bit on what it does. Unfortunately I don't think what this tries to do is an issue on the Prime. This basically makes sure there is always random data available for apps from a location that will block if there's none available. However, when I ran a command that was constantly consuming all the random data (cat /dev/random > /dev null), I could see that the random data was getting consumed but it wasn't causing a perceptibly adverse effect on anything else.
I also just ran the app for a while, and I didn't notice anything being more responsive. It will consume extra battery though.
Take look at my write up on the Google bug. That is what the author originally thought the problem was. What is probably going on is kernel lock contention due to the code that generates entropy when the pool is depleted.
Installed it just now, no discernible effect. Quick reboot... Chameleon launcher, app switching, Chrome, all smooth as butter. I am gobsmacked! I think have a feeling this works well for me because of the number of connections made by Chameleon, logged in accounts (I have 9 accounts logged in at all times) and apps syncing that I regularly exhaust the block device. Add to our already slow IO, any blocking at the kernel level will be multipled.
Going to monitor it some more and report back on battery life and any further observations. Thanks for the share! :good:

I have done some benchmarks and it makes no difference to those whatsoever. This bothers me because I can't understand if this is supposed to do nothing, how does my device run orders of magnitude snappier all the time while running this compared with intermittent lag that I usually get (for example: waiting 1-3 seconds for the recent app list to show normally vs instant with this mod) . The CPU governor can't be it: I set cpu to max and use the performance governor and I still have massive lag. I have tried numerous things for I/O: different schedulers, different mount options to reduce writes on reads and improve write speed ie. noatime, nodiratime, discard, and nothing works! I have tried to narrow down a single process that causes the lag, no dice. I know I only have just under 2 days of testing behind me and yes I only have anecdotal evidence but I have been running this a long enough time with absolutely zero lag that I can't say it makes no difference for me. I'll continue testing but so far it has been too long to be placebo IMO.

Haha benchmarks dont equate to real life performance. Benchmark scores have been decreasing since gingerbread even though the new software makes everything faster

The reason why your device *feels* snappier is because constant I/O activity ensures the CPU will remain at rather high clocks, producing the effect of a smoother experience at the expense of massive battery drain. The explanation of increasing the entropy does nothing by itself, you could cause a lot of I/O activity to anywhere in the emmc and it would produce a similar effect.

Haha benchmarks dont equate to real life performance. Benchmark scores have been decreasing since gingerbread even though the new software makes everything faster

Indeed. That was my point, benchmark results were unchanged but user experience is different. Hrrrm
Didn't do anything for me. Uninstalled it.
Thanks for finding this
I was skeptical as many are about this. I did not see any improvement in Quadrant scores. I installed this for one reason only and it works!
I stream .m4v movies from my NAS drive to my TV through my TP. Before this was installed I would have problems with stuttering no matter what player I tried. Sometimes I would have problems right away, and depending on the player/movie I could watch about an hour before the stuttering/lag begins. I have been beyond frustrated, especially since my wife has an IPad 2 that plays the same movies flawlessly.
Since installing this I can now play my movies without a hitch. I don't know why, but it works. I only use it for this purpose as my other testing showed no major difference. I turn it off when I am not watching movies as I have read that the battery drain is increased.
I streamed 3 movies this weekend without a problem and 2 of them were back to back and I only used approx 35% battery.
Running AndroWook 1.51 and with 1.6 oc kernal.

+ 1 here. Running last JB update + rooted, wasn't able to play heavy games since the update to JB when we lost the OC kernel from ICS, games were laggy, freezing, almost unplayable. After seeder.apk installation, <i am again able to play NOVA 3, Batman, Spiderman, Asåhalt 7, without any lag and high FPS, seems even better than when my Prime was on ICS OC to 1600. I don't care about what people say but what I experience o preformance, this is something I've learnt after all those years using Android devices. Give it try expecially if you run heavy apps. Battery is a bit worse, but who cares when the prime isnot overheating and run a lot better.

I want to install it too, but as I understand there is no root for current JB yet, or am I wrong?!
