OK, I have written an app to attempt and stop call wonkyness on CM7 builds. Specifically the phone locking up when making and receiving calls.
It's my observation that it's the mic that causes the phone to lock up and so this app opens and closes the mic every minute to keep it "fresh". It's a long shot, but I can't seem to duplicate wonkyness with it enabled so I'm posting it for other to try.
Now after a few positive comments to help boost my confidence in the app, I've made it's own thread to make it easy to track comments.
Just install and run (or just reboot as it auto-start on boot). To disable, uninstall it.
Please post your results!
Change Log:
Version 1.4
Made service more persistent by adding notification bar. Turns out, Android was killing off the service when memory was running low causing wonk to surface.
Version 1.3
Can only be installed on internal memory. Needed to make sure the service can started up on boot. (Thanks to mjukis for pointing this out)
Version 1.2
Only dewonkificates when screen is off to avoid conflicts with any apps you may be using.
Removed debug logging
[Post edited because the wonkyness is still there and this .apk works fine to fix it]
Dude.... As best as I can tell in 20 minutes' time, this damn thing seems to actually work! Gotta tell ya how skeptical I was....but I'm pretty flippin' pleased right now!
Good looking out!!
Much appreciated for this app.
While it's still too early to say it's 100% working, so far so good.
I have had the wonk since build 3 to 23 (except for 16).
I will keep testing and report back often.
That's great news and I'm happy that it looks like it's working for people. I was on the edge of rolling back and this was a desperate attempt to fix it.
Agree with the op. Can't say for sure its the miracle I've been waiting for... but 4 calls in (admittedly 2 from myself, ) no wonks. When I'd expect all to be wonky
If this 'wonklessisity' continues you will surely become supreme ruler of xda!
Will report back soon.

What are your thoughts and battery impact?....and would some timeframe greater or less than 1 min. factor in??
Does this fix it?

Currently I can't see any measurable battery drain. Dewonkificator doesn't even show on the About phone->Battery use screen. Increasing the time between dewonkification might be work, but since battery doesn't seem to be a issue and we don't know what the source of the problem is I don't think its worth risking or investigating.
I also believe it have something to do with the mic, since all apps that use it have the same freeze, and it seems to work for me. Thanks

Maybe watchdog would be a better app for checking. Would give us a better idea of CPU use. Also juice plotter may help see prior and after install battery consumption
I've tested it,and havent got any wongkiness for today. I think its working...

Wonky just visited me when my wife called. Installed your dewonky app for testing.
Thanks.
This bug is the reason I got off CM7 nightlies, so damn annoying. Maybe this is a Gingerbread thing rather than a Nexus S problem cause the Nexus S is supposed to be rebooting itself while in calls as I'm sure everyone knows.
OK guys...so I was plagued with this problem like a lot of other people using the g-tab. I tried all of the other fixes like installing a different kernel, keeping wifi and/or cpu alive while sleeping, wiping and re-installing, etc. None of these worked for me like many others. I started experimenting, and I decided that the problem had to be something involving CPU load. I created a profile in SetCPU that reduced the CPU frequency to a minimum value while the screen was off and/or sleeping, and !!! Problem solved. I can turn screen off for a second, a minute or an hour and when I push the power button, the tab wakes immediately. This definitely solved the problem for me, and I would like some feedback as to whether this fixes it for anyone else. As a side-note, I am running the Vegan-GingerBread as advertised (STOCK).
Cheers!!!
what was the profile that you set on set cpu? And did this help the wifi from disconnecting when it sleeps?

In SetCPU I created a profile that was "Screen Off" MAX: 216, MIN:216, and it fixed all of my issues!!!
Try my latest kernel (version9) with no setcpu and let me know how it goes

Yes, just uploaded recently. Lmk how it goes. I also fixed Bluetooth
I hate to keep asking but does your kernal fix the wifi not coming back on from sleep?
Thank you will try it but does that affect the battery strength at all?

I would think that it would only help battery seeing as how you are forcing the CPU down to it's lowest frequency.

Im gonna guess because what may be a "fix" for you is not for everyone. These tabs are tempermental at best and what works on some does not work on others. Demanding a dev include something you think is a fix in his work is kinda arrogant don't you think. If you can do better where is the link to your custom rom?

Did you read the thread? I am not talking about GOJIMI implementing MY fix...go back and actually read. Clemsyn, a VERY reputable g tab dev, has found a universal fix for the issue.
You think so? There is no universal fix for most issues. Clemsyn and pershoot have been battling this issue for months. Gojimi is a VERY reputable g tab dev as well. Along with several other people. What your not getting is that some of these tabs are slightly different enough that what you think is unversal may not be so and demanding one dev include another devs work because you think you know what your talking about is assinine
BTW....some don't have the issue at all and never have.

Lol @ you dude...have a good day.
Hey whats up guy?
all this Temp-Root and ADB, and bat.file's, and what not is relatively new to me...seeing that ive never needed to use it previously, im kinda paying the ultimate price for it now LOL...So, yesterday i used "Wisefire's" Temp-Root method and it worked perfectly...but now im looking to use the OC bat.file that was included in the zip.....ive tried other method of Temp-Root and changed my uder variables and what not and my PC became a huge mess.....but with alot of help from the guys in that thread we got things worked out and i was able to run the bat.file just fine....now i seem to be getting the same error in the CMD and im not sure where to go from there to resolve the issue.....i keep getting a "NO SCRIPT OR DIRECTORY" error......ill attach a SS of the CMD and what it keeps giving me....if anyone can help me resolve this or maybe even stir my to a differ method of using SETCPU to OC my device, i'd be grateful for that.....thanks guys......i really appreciate it
I was having that exact same problem..i couldnt fig it out for nothing..i still dont know how i got it to work...i just tried extracting the overclock bat in the unzipped easy frevo file and when it asked to replace i said no and it send me back to the easy frevo file folder and i did process and it work..same thing worked with my wifes..so wierd..i dont know if ur using windows but u could try it..lol
EDIT ....I have heard problems with OC in yesterdays easy frevo..there is and updated one with frevo, OC, and bloat from today that one is one that worked for me

Ok lemmi take a shop at this.
1. Make sure you have the right .KO file! There is one for non-ota and phones that have takes the ota (over the air update)
This is the command I used and got it to work.
adb push 8x60_oc.ko /data/local/tmp/
adb shell insmod /data/local/tmp/8x60_oc.ko scpll_l_val=33 vdd_uv=1375000
Make sure to change the .ko name to the one you have. You can simply edit the .bat and use these lines.
Good luck hope it helps!

It's very device and "needs" specific. Everyone is different. If you're looking for the best battery life go as low as you can tolerate. If you're looking for speed crank it as high as you can without the phone locking up or getting sluggish, and play around with conservative/on demand governors. Avoid performance governor.

Performance governor just clocks your cpu @ the max wether needed or not and yeah the phones are all different. Well made, but still made by people and machines. So there's still some variance. I'm a phone geek by hobby but manufacturing specialist by trade lol. Anyways, glad to help.

No prob man. Glad you got it worked out. Also if you plan on experimenting with the overclock and underclock make a mental note to be by a pc/laptop. I say this because if you go to high your phone could freeze and lock up requiring a battery pull this applys with the underclock as well. If it does freeze up and you have to do a battery pull it will mean reboot and you will loose root and have to do your choice of rerooting and reoverclocking. Also I'd recommend reading the overckock thread to look at some members experience with overckocking and underclocking to get a general idea of were to start. Well hope this helps.

I had an earlier bat file that worked for rooting but the overclock wouldn't.
I took the working bat file and edited it. I then copied the first line (where it had cd) to the other bat file.
Worked great.

please explain this crap. i am on Slim ICS with Siyah Kernal 3.2.1. Korean S2 converted to I9100. for 3 days m getting this Stats. no matter what i do. it always come to this. I Delete the Battery Stats from Kernal menu. but after some time. ths Android OS again shows the same.
so 30% batt gone in 4 an half hr apprx..so u mean ur not using an this happens give rom, kernel details an more in depth will ,giv u better ans
First read the What is Android OS post second read and install from Better Battery Stats thread .

Yes I did not use it. and my in 4 hours 30% discharge. m using Slim ICS with Siyah kernal and Yes i had read that post about android OS. there's no way Android OS drain can be that much.
Is this a Korean Version fault?
and my problem is not related to better Battery thread. or it is? please guide me
give it some time to settle and install betterbatterystats so u can kno if anything is causing wakelocks,,,,,also wat i suggest is turn brightness to lowest, auto sync off,no livewallpaper, use data only wen needed, enable power saving mode, turn off wifi,bt,don use live widgets, avoid task killers, hope this helps to a point....and using totally black back grnd helps alot in tecky way...
Wait about 3 recharges and check what your drainage is then, if the problem still occurs, try reinstalling the ROM. Hopefully, the problem should be fixed.

No, you don't have to change rom unless the rom is draining battery, and you can check that by reflashing it and use it clean for a couple of days. I have stock i9100 ics 4.0.3 and battery stats are reading android os as one of the top consumers but I don't have any drain. I guess it's a 4.0.3 bug because I had same reading on nexus s with stock 4.0.3 and on various stock/custom ics roms on different devices.

I just found out that this bug can be fixed if you disable screen touch and lock sounds in settings>sound. Apparently this keeps os awake. I've disabled all sounds except ringer and notification on my devices and now I'm testing that theory, I hope it will cure that bug and maybe give me some extra battery life.

maybe it's stupid, maybe it's not, but when I see that something is wrong i try to fix it, and as far I can see turning those sounds is working, my awake time is now only 15-20 min longer than screen time on both my devices. Before I did that it was 2-3 hours longer on a daily basis. I think he should try, and if it works, great, if it doesn't he should change the rom. Not really waste of time as he can test that in couple of hours. Cheers

Lol, your messing with the CPU with SetCPU, and you posted an issue about a bootloop, are you serious?
use the search function, wipe your phone completely, and dont mess with the CPU voltages.
Questions go in the question and answer section. When u provide a bug report or ask for assistance u have to provide more details than this. Unless it's a known bug, u should tell whoever yer asking for help what kernel u were running, if u had flashed any scripts or anything that may have led to the issue, if u did a full wipe before flashing, if u undervolted or underclocked, and if u had set your values to start up automatically on boot. As much information as u can give will help whoever is looking at your post diagnose what may have gone wrong.
Some more info will help us to help u.
