Obviously T-Mobile won't turn off the phone because they'll lose money but today I went in to the local store and was able to get my IMEI number. What can I do with this besides give it to the police? What are my options?

yes, the police will have a way to track it, but since it's not a life threatening situation, it's not going to be a priority on their to do list. The only thing you can do is just follow up with them and hopefully someone will spend the time to track it down for you. Other than that, you might just need to take this one in the rear and learn to protect your phone better the next time around.

Actually, I don't see any reason why the police would have a way to track IMEI numbers, the police department is not in the business to own technology to track IMEI numbers. The most they can do is try and talk to T-Mobile and see if they are willing to cooperate and provide the police with the number using the phone now. Chances are that won't happen either. You are basically out of luck, in terms of getting your phone back.
So here is what you can do.
Call T-Mobile Cancellation department, tell them you wan't to cancel. Explain to them what happend and you can not afford a new replacement phone at full retail. If they say you are **** out of luck, just say you wan't to cancel anyway and ask them to waive the ETF. If they fail to waive the ETF, explain to them that even with the ETF, you will still save more money by going to a different carrier and getting a new fascinate or epic or captivate for cheaper. For example you can find the fascinate or captivate for under a 100 bucks with new contract. I think T-Mobile will work with you, silly to lose you, they can at least provide you a good discount on a new one. You should have a police report to back up your story.

Ya, but anyone can do a hard reset and it will get rid of lookout mobile security.
Anyways, what if he did have it, you are going to show up at the guys place and do what? Knock on the door and ask for your phone back? Then possibly get shot? Or possibly start a physical altercation then get sued?
Maybe you can get lucky and have a cop go with you, but police have better things to do than go with people to get their phones back. They can hide out near stop signs and assign parking tickets.
have fun

Police will track it if they feel like it. I live across the street from a police department and they have posted a campaign to register your phone with them in the event it is stolen they will be able to track it.

Yup aka Insurance/in store repairs. $100 deductible on any insurance claim, and no charge for any repairs or replacements if it's not an insurance claim.

Maybe you were so excited while activating it. For me it was on the screen that had the $10 Premium Data charge. There were other items you could have added at that time including the Sprint roadside assistance and some other stuff.
I think it's good you pointed this out, as for any high end phone I think it's money well spent.
Plus one advantage to TEP over manufacturer warranty is you never have to hear Sprint say, we need to have HTC take care of this.
i dont understand why anyone would want TEP. i mean the phone is under warranty for 1 year, after 1 year you'll prolly get a new phone anyways. if you wait until your 2 year contract then its a little under $200 and you can get a new phone when your 2 year contract is up.
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the warranty just cover device defect? The TEP covers if you throw the phone into the Pacific. When I find out it can't be rooted, for instance.

That shows the difference. You get more service from Sprint themselves if you have TEP, otherwise your warranty is with HTC not Sprint so it takes longer to get taken care of.

TEP covers a lot more than warranty items. Warranty is manufacture defects not dropping your phone in the toilet, running it over with your car, dropping it on the pavement, or having it stolen. Good luck getting a new phone under any of those conditions. You will be out $600 bucks. Plus with TEP (@$100.00) I will get a replacement phone the next business day.

Just tried to exchange my phone for the second time and they refused to do it even though I'm in my 30 days.
I'm gonna try a different Sprint Store soon but the manager, after a huge arguement, offered to order a refurbished phone.
Being so new, is there any chance I'd get an actually refurbished phone?

We'll I've already argued with two managers and a technician. They were trying to push the idea that it wasn't a dead pixel but I proved it to them and then they continued to refuse me a new phone.
Apparently I have to pay a restocking fee now? I called up Customer Service and they said that I have to pay a restocking fee. Is this true? It's just $35 but still. I don't want to pay and then get a bad one again.
No dude theres no restocking fee or anything like that. Call them again, if they give you a problem, threaten to cancel your service. See how fast they run to help you out.
Yeah I think I am going to just go and cancel my service.

I have had the note for almost 30 days and the only issue I have is when receiving phone call.
When the phone rings, the screen stays off and I have no way to see who is calling or answer the call.
Is anyone experiencing the same issue with his/her note?
Thanks.
Sorry if this was posted somewhere else but my search didn't find it.
Very strange, but no mine doesnt do that. That would be a total deal breaker, take that joker back and tell them to cough up a new phone.

That was my original thought, but a faulty sensor would not discriminate phone calls over other actions. Would do it erradically/randomly. I would recommend doing a factory reset on it first rather then my innitial suggestion.

Mine is doing the same thing when it was running TPC, but didn't do it on Stock or currently on Saurom... thinking it's probably not the phone in my case.
It takes my screen a second or so before turning on. I will hear the ring tone first, then the screen pops on a second later. It's not a deal breaker, but definitely a bit of a nuisance. Does anyone else have this issue?
I'm on stock ROM with OC kernel. This was a case when I was on stock kernel too.
So I went to the store to exchange my faulty Note but the genius at the AT&T store said he cannot exchange it without a restocking fee unless he can duplicate the problem.I mentioned that it happens about 60% of the time but his response it is AT&Ts policy otherwise the 35dollars is a must.
As usually, he couldn't duplicate it and I had to pay 36.81 which is the restocking fee plus tax, a tax charge that they didn't know where it came from.
I called At&T and they claimed that it is not a corporate policy but it is a store policy and they cannot do anything about it.
Great service At&T!!!!
Call back but do it late at night. That is total bs

Good lord man, your too easy. I have been known to throw a fit in stores when they try to pull a BS line like that. The manager can EASILY over ride it. In your case all you would of had to do is say "Restocking fee? yea, how about shove it up your ass, I have 30 days to change my mind you you just helped me with that" once you threatened to return it he would have changed his mind real quick when he got to pick between an exchange and a return.

I like that idea... I think I might flash back to unrooted stock for a bit to make sure it isn't a hardware issue, I have till the 29th before my 30 days is up.
And for my 1000th post I wish to impart upon you all the knowledge I have just gained this afternoon.
If you upgrade you can keep your unlimited data if you add a home phone line for $20/mo. according the the guy at the Verizon store today.
Went in there to try to get my phone replaced under warranty, which they wouldn't do since it has a cracked screen, threatened to leave VZW and was offered an early upgrade. After I asked if my plan would change he said yes, it would go down to 2gb, but then he told me if I added a home phone line I could have unlimited. I have a home phone with AT&T so I'll just port my number over and I'll be set. (I did buy a Magic Jack that I keep forgetting to hook up but I can sell that and hopefully get a refund for the months of service I paid for.)
EDIT: The phone service is a wireless service. According to jayochs it's called Home Phone Connect.

That's some shady **** right there. I have unlimited and had my phone replaced under warranty with no issues. Don't go into the store when doing warranty stuff.
I wonder if Verizon is offering incentives to their store employees to get people off unlimited data. This isn't the first time I've heard of them telling ppl they won't warranty a phone if they don't switch off unlimited

I'd have to buy a wireless router/receiver(?) for $12 and the phone service is wireless. So technically I guess it isn't a land line... it's home phone service, $20/mo., call waiting, caller ID, nationwide calling...
Still thinking it through and wondering if that's better to pick up a new phone with new contract or buy a used one and keep unlimited without adding the home phone line. Plus I have to decide between the 2 phones he offered me for the same price but I don't want to hijack my own thread.

that's called home phone connect. it's a little box that you can bring anywhere and it uses verizons network to make calls, but you can plug normal landline phones into it.
lol my store gives those boxes away for free. you just have to pay that 20 a month, and you get the reciever for nothin

they mean if you have a family plan and another line has the upgrade, you take that, but you upgrade it on that other line...then just do an ESN change to put it to your line, thereby keeping unlimited data, but f'ing up our commissions. lol
i don't do that for customers because then i lose ALL of the commission i would've made. verizon wants you to do alternate upgrades instead of just ESN changes. my store would get charged back all that commission money from verizon at the end of the month because it's not a technical upgrade. if you can find someone who's dumb enough to do it for you, then so be it.....but when you order yourself online, you don't have this problem. only when you goto a store with a physical salesman.
I have read so many threads on unlimited data. Things about being able to keep unlimited on a non family plan, being able to keep it if you pay full retail, this, etc. I am confused. How do I keep it. I certainly don't want this useless box to connect my land phone to lol.

Don't do anything that modifies your contract and they won't take it away from you. Any other way will be depending on some type of promotion or special allowance. Buy a phone without using an upgrade (either by paying full price or buying used) and you'll keep unlimited data. Using an upgrade discount triggers a contract modification and you lose it.
