Gorilla glass still scratches. The evo has gorilla glass, and is scratchable. I have had a screen protector on my evo since day one. My step dad got his two months ago and, scratched like crazy.

Guess it all depends on how careful you are with your phone. I've had my hd2 for 14 months. It has gorilla glass. Not one scratch. Looks the way it did the day I bought it.
I am kind of surprised that people still use this stuff. Have had my Hero from day one and not a scratch on it (I don't believe his is gorilla glass either, heck I don't even have a case for it and only problems are from the buttons wearing off).
I also wonder if putting a screen protector on it will change the 3D effects going on.
oh yea, good question. i thought about that, but what the heck, its only $11
I used a zagg on my hero for a long time. Then it got some sorry of crap on it that wouldn't come. So I removed it and went with just the screen. I must admit, at first I was thoroughly surprised with its durability but it did scratch. Twice. Big deep ones. And I don't even know how. I keep it in a body glove case and I take good care of it.
Idk, I think screen protectors are a good thing but its just personal preference I guess.

I also used Zagg on my Evo and also on my wife's. Ended up going naked on the screens and neither one of ours have scratches on the screens. Just can't keep in your pocket with change or keys etc.

Here comes the gorilla glass argumemt again. Have you never seen an iphone with a scratched screen? Ive seen countless that are just terrible. Gorilla glass can be scratched by sand and their is sand in dirt and probably in your pocket. It might be harder to break but i dont think its too much harder to scratch.

If the gorilla glass doesnt effect it i dont think a screen protector will. Surely we would of heard reports of that by now with the optimus 3d. The matte ones could have some sort of effect.

Awesome, thanks. Gonna go ahead and order then. It was between these and some Steinheil Crystal protectors, but these seem like a decent enough price, and I'd love to have them to slap on right away.

I don't get why people complain. Gorilla glass does not mean indestructable. If you drop you phone on concrete and it lands a certain way it may break. Stop dropping your phone is the best solution imo.

the more scratch resistant something is (gorilla glass) the more brittle it is (easier to crack).

Nope.
1) There's no direct correlation between brittle and hard. An advanced material, like Gorilla Glass, *may* be harder and less brittle at the same time compared to regular glass.
2) If I remember correctly, all Gorilla Glass demonstrations of the past involved smashing a small piece with a hammer. Gorilla Glass is definitely less brittle than regular glass.
Again, we do not have gorilla glass

Meanwhile, the weight and size are unusual in part because of its large multi-touch screen with a size reaches 4.3 inches diagonally and getting the same HTC Sensation resolution (540 x 960 pixels). This display is for displaying images in three dimensions without requiring the user to buy special glasses separately, in addition to the glass used is Gorilla Glass, a material highly resistant to both scratches and bump

If it only dropped 2ft. How on earth are there 3 impact spots on the screen? Did you drop it on a bed of spikes?

Glass would be brittle. It is just the nature of ceramic materials.
In this test you talking about. Was the glass suspended by two support point with the impact load being in the middle? Or was the middle slowly being pushed down?
these mobile glass test should be done horizontally normal to a side or corner. to imitate a fall. A normal load from the surface test is for test people punching their phones or a stressful push.
Would anyone here know the density of our screen? Maybe it is the same as the corning glass but from a different manufacture.
Can anyone confirm that the EVO LTE is sporting Gorilla Glass II? How's your screen holding up so far? Are you using a screen protector or going commando :sly: style?

That is awesome. I mean, I can't picture trying it myself. But is the lte using the same screen as One X? Also, random, I hate the One X screen the way it sticks up out of the chassis.
Also, I was in a sprint store today, and the rep scratched a Motorola photon screen with a set of keys, repeatedly to show how resistant the screen is. No damage. Said they've been doing it every day for fun. But, does Evo have same glass as photon? Rep didn't know and I've never investigated.

correct,
although there is almost no difference in strength between gorilla glass and gorilla glass 2. The latter is designed to be thinner.

I have the HD Zagg on, but it kinda messes with the P-sensor, when i make a call and put the phone away from my face it sometimes doesnt turn on, never had this issue with my 3d. And if it matters i payed 8 dollars at bestbuy to get it installed.
this video is amazing! makes me wonder if i really need my otter box defender now. LOL
sprint store i went to today had an htc rep there. i asked him what kinda screen it was. he told me himself that it was gorilla glass 2. i even asked him if he was sure, he said he was. he seems very knowledgable about htc products cuz he answered all my questions even though i already knew the answers
Hmm, this is interesting. So, wouldn't it make sense that if a manufacturer as big and as marketing savvy as HTC was going to sell a flagship phone such as this that came equipped with GG/GG II, they would be advertising it as a selling point? Not trying to troll my own thread but it seems like they've done this in the past with their other phones as well. I wonder why?

You probably got a piece of sand in your pocket, silica/quartz/sand will scratch gorilla glass. Or diamonds, if you are rolling around in those.

Thanks for YouTube link. I watched that AND two about Gnex, both were scratch tests and showed no scratching.
BUT...all 3 vids I watched had user comments saying they (users) had scratched screens,...just from everyday use. And Slayer69 (oh so sadly, sorry bro) already scratched his. Little hard to know what to believe.

I recently upgraded to the HOX+ from a Captivate.
My captivate never got scratches on the screen for the two years I had it and yet, already a week with the HOX+,I see surface scratches popping up all over the place.
Is this normal? I always keep my phone in an isolated pocket away from my wallet and keys but it keeps happening. I thought this had gorilla glass.

Any substance harder than the glass itself will scratch it.

Some users have reported minor, tiny scratches, but I believe that was just coating over the Gorilla, could be specks of sand... I use Zagg HD on mine ...
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
The screen is pretty resilient and should hold up unless you do garden work and such, if you experience scratches of imperfections you can recoat the glass with a liquid shield.
So then the glass itself doesn't get scratched,it's only the coating above it that's susceptible to damage?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
Yes man, I totally recommend you to put screen protector... Me thinking naively that I don't need a SP got lots of minor coating chips... It is almost invisible but when you rub your finger on the screen, you will see it.. Real scratches? None.
