I am trying to update my SGS II via Kies, and after few steps, I came to backup process. Kies offered back-up, I accepted, and now, for more than one our i am stuck at this:

When I try to click anywhere on kies surface (visible and invisible part of it), one can hear sound like when you try to click on forgotten part of application. Phone is accessible, I called it from other phone, everything works fine.
Does anyone know what is happening ? Can I unplug USB cable ?
My gues is that there should be some kind of window which asks where to save backup data, but this dialog is not vissible.
regards,
Zoran
Haven't really used kies for updates, since I always flash my own firmware.
As for being able to unplug the phone, should be fine since you're just backing info up, not installing anything to it (yet). Can you see anything on the phone screen?
Try that and restart the whole process, see what happens.
My long term suggestion however, would be to learn a bit about flashing fw via Odin or Heimdal, and then really go ahead and do it yourself. This method has never let me down and you get to learn a lot more about the internal workings of the phone...
Thanks, Anakondarh.
Phone is completely accessible, altough it is on the cable and on main screen there is Kiess connection information, I can receive a calls, I receive email updates via wifi ... Simple, after I confirmed I want to back up phone, nothing happens.
Yeah, unplugging shouldn't be a problem. Try that, put up with any error messages from Kies (if there is any) blow on your USB cable and restart process. If you end up stuck at the same place, try to restart your PC and just run Kies, no other programs. See if that helps.

Guess it's safe to unplug the phone as long as the firmware update didn't start, no harm will be done if it was just backing-up info on pc. After that try rebooting both the phone and pc before trying to update, cause Kies has several processes that run and if one of them crashed it won't recognize your phone or back-up your stuff. If you still can't update, reinstalling Kies and drivers from Kies again might do the trick. If you can't be bothered about warranty, i guess you can try flashing through Odin, seems much easier than Kies, if you read the whole procedure before doing that.

For some reason, not sure what I have done, my PC won't detect the usb-drive correctly. It does find the drive (Win XP 32bit) and assigns a drive letter, but the drive is not accessible. Also, the phone does not detect that it is in a PC, e.g. the "ask me" menu does not pop up. I have tried disabling debugging, installing new drivers, removing drivers and what not. Works fine on PCs which have never had HTC-drivers installed... Any ideas?
You could try a earlier version of HTC sync

Just did.
I then managed to wipe the PC of the drivers, I think. At least the system was unable to install the drivers, when it detected the hardware, and asked for drivers.
Then the phone should still work as a USB-drive, at least, without any drivers. And it does on other PCs. But not this one. Odd!
try this, not sure if it will help, in device manager look for 0000.001a.0007.003.000.000.000.000.000 or similar in the usb mass storage devices you have

upgrade the driver, select you will pick from a list, uncheck compatible hardware on the manufacture window scroll up to standard usb host controllers, then in the right hand windows select usb composite device! once its done detach phone and reboot pc and try again!
I wiped the phone. I was certain it was not the phone, since other PCs would work fine, but just in case... and guess what, it works. I guess it was all that testing with getting JIT to work under SuperHero 1.0.1 that ****ed it up. Just re-applying JIT again to see if it causes the same problem...
Edit: And now JIT causes a wiped phone to crash. Better stay away from that for a while

I have no rebooting issues at all with it. In fact no problems - except this!
Hi guys,
Kies would not detect my phone earlier after I had flashed a new firmware, and so I uninstalled it & the drivers, ran CC Cleaner to clean up all the **** it leaves behind, and re-installed it. My phone connected perfectly and I was able to sync all my music however for some god forsaken reason, Kies swears my device does not support software upgrading via Kies, which is bull****.. I did it the same day I got my phone

A history of what I've done with my phone in regards to flashing:
I was experiencing lock-ups on my Stock UK un-branded firmware 'I9300XXALF2' so I flashed the UK Orange Branded firmware 'I9300BVALE4' however once I saw that the branded version offered no benefits over the un-branded (because sometimes they do ) I re-flashed the stock UK firmware 'I9300XXALF2' which I believe is the most up-to-date firmware. I did all of these flashes using Odin and the original installation of Kies.
Someone please help me
I know there's word of an OTA firmware upgrade out and about as well as one in Kies. I'm in the same boat as you in that my Kies just says it doesn't support upgrades, so I just flashed the upgrade with Odin. It's completely possible that the reason kies doesn't support it is because there isn't an update available.
Take that with a pinch of salt though.

Well, the firmware that I just flashed Kies actually downloaded and flashed for me when I first got my phone. I downloaded Kies to my computer, it said it didn't recognize the device the first time ever. Then the second time I connected it boom.. It's so weird I have no bloody clue! I just hope flashing has not somewhat messed it up, because some updates are only released through Kies.
Worst case scenario you just have to download the kernel updates and flash with Odin manually, but I doubt that'll be the case. I'm currently fighting with Kies just for it to try and recognise that I have a phone attached at all. MTP drivers don't want to install for some reason, so far a thoroughly enjoyable experience haha
Edit: Scratch that, just a matter of Windows being odd again. Attached is the results in Kies after flashing the most recent firmware in Odin. Which is pretty much the same as your's apart from the carrier.

Absolutely no problems on my computer, if your having problems with the driver I recommend you uninstall Kies, navigate to the installation folder on your computer after uninstalling and go to the driver bit and click uninstall there, then try a full re-install. Worked for me

I just ask, what the fu*k is Your question?
Make a choice, won't Your computer recognize the phone or the phone doesn't recognize the PC.
I think You're asking for the first thing, so on Your place I would check if USB debugging is enabled, if You changed the "Roman".
Also don't forget to check for drivers on Your PC.
And please, explain to me what "Aataraf" is.
Definition in the existing phone
And you do restore factory settings
The phone hanging on the word Sony Ericsson
And tried to install the original Roman road
Flash tool but the computer does not recognize the phone
But lighting is blinking when you press the back button

Try SEUS and check the drivers on Your PC.
Besides...

Where the solution
Can you give me your backup in the original rom
is hard do discover what he want to say, but if you cannot connect your phone to PC check if your drivers are installed corretly. Install SE PC Compaion or SEUS. if you want to use flashtool make sure you have ADB Drivers installed ( you should have it in "drivers"folder, and run the setup wizard) and USB Debug is turned on on your phone.
The battery empty, but when connect the phone electricity are not shipping
just connect it and wait few minutes. it should boot up but it will take a while. It is possible that LED indicator is not turned on. just wait cca 30 minutes.
Hey everybody, so I bought myself a messed up vibrant hoping I could fix it. Originally it acted like this:
Plug it in to charge: shows the stock loading bar, then loading bar with battery, repeat.
Turn it on: shows the at&t world phone screen, (I think they tried to flash captivate files to it) (yes I am sure it is a vibrant, I have had 3 now)
Wouldn't even go into download mode, definitely not recovery.
I bought a USB download mode jig, and that worked wonders on it and got it to download mode!
My micro USB port on my phone is junk, but I finally got odin to recognize it, but it failed after saying setup connection forever.

Any ideas? Is JTAG the only option I have at this point, if so anyone know who'll do it for less than $50?
If it helps I have a linux computer.
Maybe the unbrickableMOD? I suck at soldering and I don't really know anyone who is good, but I might be able to make that work as a last resort.
Now it has changed its mind once again, I put the USB jig in and it went to the soft bricked screen with the cell phone...!...computer
It can't be a problem with the cable or the computer because I have tried several ports and I have used same computer with odin many times.
It has changed its mind once again, now we're back to download mode.
I have finally gotten it back in download mode, now trying to get odin to see it again and not have the computer just say usb device not recognized . Any ideas for this?
Progress! Now it will say but i still cannot get odin to recognize it again, any ideas? I have and am trying multiple versions of odin just to make sure.
Now we're back to .
Still no ideas? If I can get odin to recognize it again I think I have a special odin to fix it.
Eh, maybe I'll scrap it for parts.
Try and get odin to recognise it and flash i9000 pit file. It should flash successfully. Then try flashing the firmware, make sure you include the pit file.
Kindly hit the THANKS button if i helped.
I AM A POTAYTOE!!! :banghead:
Sounds to me like your usb port is bad. www.mobiletechvideos.com will replace it for you or you can just order the part if you know how to solder but you must be really good at soldering or you will ruin it. They also offer jtag I believe but I don't feel like you need that. Mobile tech is a very trusted source FYI, so purchase with confidence if you go that route.

Hi!
I have a problem with my S2.
So, yesterday, I tried to tether through USB and I saw it was't working and I said I'd change the ROM and it will work. I changed 3 ROMs and realised that USB wasn't working (neither in ROM or recovery) An hour ago, I tried connecting it to Odin and after 5 minutes, I succeded in Odin recognising it and I started flashing official software, but phone randomly disconnected. Now, if I try to connect it, I can't and the phone does not boot and does not enter recovery. What can I do?
PS: Sorry for bad english.
PS2: Tried connecting phone to 3 Windows 7 PCs and a Mac and it wasn't recognised at all.
worn out?
I'm not sure but I think the contact/connecter is worn out... I have a similar problem with random disconnects mainly when charging the phone but also sometimes with usb-pc connections. Changing to newer cables helps a bit but not entirely...
If it is not rom related I don't know what you can do more then trying another usb cable or buying a new phone. I guess that's not an option?
You also said your phone does not boot and you can't enter recovery... But what about "download mode"? As long as you can enter download mode you can fix the software in your phone but to do that you need the usb to be working correctly with no disconnects or else odin will mess up every time!
Replace USB board. Has been discussed here many times over the past month or so; search for those threads.
The USB port seems to be the weak point of the S2. It is seemingly the most replaced part for this phone.....I have had to do it myself, and have helped others in a similar situation. If you search my topics, you'll find one called 'video tutorial' which shows a step by step process for 'tearing down' an S2. This will help if you decide to replace the board yourself. Online shopping sites are a good place to source the part you need. But be advised, there are THREE different versions of this part (REV2.2, REV2.3 and REV2.4) see the photo below to find out where to look for the version number....
Make sure you get the same version as you remove, as a mismatch at this point is likely to cause other problems. ....

Finally....do not attempt to recover your phone until you have replaced this part.......the chances are that you will make things worse.....to the extent that your phone *may* become unrecoverable......
