Root available without docking station? - Motorola Photon 4G

Anyone have any news on when there will be root without the need for a docking station? Either way, I don't plan to root until the official MR update is out to fix many of the bugs in the software but it would be nice to know that there is a method out there.

Don't worry, I'll be paying attention. Hopefully it comes out soon.

Rooting the Vizio Vtab running the .57 update

Folks,
I'm not used to having a device that is not rooted and it bugs the hell out of me to know that I have 2 Vtabs (mine and my lady's) around me that I can't install root apps on as frequently as I want. So since the Vtab is not getting any love, maybe we Vtab owners can come together and motivate one or more Devs to work on this. To do this I'm thinking of an donations project of an average of $10 - $20 per self identified current or soon to be Vtab owner. The target minimum amount is $1000 but the more we are able to generate the better.
So first can we have Vtab owners/soon to be owners identify themselves and also indicate if you'd be open to the donation project. I would also hope one of the well established and highly reputable mods/dev on XDA would be open to being the person to receive the donations.
Please share your thoughts.
My good people, I'm definitely not the only Vtab owner around here. Can we get some feedback here?
Bump. for a noble cause!!!! I please help this little tab with some decent potential.

Looks like we are getting the Honeycomb update now.

Haven't received it yet, but other people have.
Count me in for sure. I want to use navigon really badly but the network license check (I purchased it) prevents it from EVER working since it does not have an always on internet connection.
I would gladly toss in $20 to the pot to get this bugger rooted.
Count me in too for $20+ if we can get custom ROM's too!
Luckily I rooted mine prior to the .57 update and froze the service.
I'm not going to v2.0 until/unless we get some source code so an awesome dev can root & ROM this beast!
Count me in getting one these at 189 for overstock
I am in....
I can chip $20-$50....I have 2 devices and would like to buy an additional one for myself but I must have root and rom tools so I can play.
Any updates?
I've been waiting on the sidelines, hoping for root before I got my tablet but my family all chipped in and I got mine for my birthday (May 20th).
I've asked a friend if he'd be interested in attempting to root the newest Honeycomb release. I'm waiting for a response from him but while I was showing it to him he made the comment, "are you rooted? It shouldn't be that difficult." He's a programmer with linux experience and since there doesn't seem to be any legit developer working on root, maybe his expertise is what we need.
If he shows interest in the project, we'll need to get him a vtab to work on. I can start a kickstarter for the ~$200 necessary.
This is all contingent on his interest in the project. I'll let you guys know.
Is there still a want/need for this? Will you be willing to donate to the cause?
I spoke with my dev. He's interested but just doesn't have the time. He's full-time employed. However, I have decided to return my vtab because of the major HDMI out issue. If you don't know, the vtab will not output to many tv's, I think because it outputs in 768 and not 720 so many televisions do not know how to handle this. I'm going to be getting the Acer Iconia a500 which has multiple dev's support already and many roms available. I wish everyone who's decided to stick it out, good luck and I hope you get root soon.
I rooted mine just in the nick of time, like the weekend 1.5 was rolling out, and froze.
Meanwhile I'm watching my wife get Honeycomb and it looks way better.
I then discover Voodoo Rootkeeper, which worked on my D2G, figure I'll gamble.
Well, it didn't work but didn't brick either. I have SU apk and Busybox is in several locations, including it's own folder named Busybox. No su binary installed. It's backed up on the card though.
I have one big problem.....the usb jack is hosed. I have to get it propped just right against something to get it to charge. I haven't been able to get it propped just right to try adb.
Its too late to return to Costco so I send to Vizio or repair myself. I have successfully replaced small scale surface mount components in the past and am tempted to mod this thing with a door for battery change too if I stick with it.
What are the chances of getting the su binary installed with Busybox already on it, assuming an adb connection can be made?
I have tried playing with Terminal Emulator but it denies, denies, denies/
I have created a root for this device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543539

[Q] TF201 On .21 - Should I wait for Root, or Unlock it?

I hope this doesn't upset anyone that I ask here, but it's a legit question.
I bought my TF201 used from someone online a couple weeks ago, and sadly they had updated it to .21 before they shipped it to me. I really want to root it so I can use a few apps (the Joystick2Touch addon being my biggest "want") but I'm not sure how long it will be before a root option is figured out for the .21 update.
Is it worth going the unlock path and voiding my warranty, or is there hope for a root option for .21 in a decent timespan? If everyone thinks it's going to be a long time before a root option is available, I may just unlock it, but I'd be willing to wait a month or so for a root option if it's a good possibility there will be one.
Thanks in advance!
i believe i saw someone someone say just yesterday that we will be having an update soon and that we have a way of rooting so devs dont want to burn an exploit for it to just be updated soon after so might as well wait for the supposed update and then see if we have a root option other than unlocking some time after that.

That''s cool. If that's the case, I can probably just wait for a proper root for the latest update. I don't think anything I want to do with the tablet makes unlocking it worth it unless it's going to be the only foreseeable method for rooting.
Root or unlock
Given that there is another update on the way and the post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537260 see the post for today by Gary Keys about giving nvflash. I would say it would be highly unlikely for any root method to be forthcomng. That being said, roms will get updated with future updates i'm sure and the thing does run better on custom roms imo. But then again I've rooted every phone i have owned too so I am prone to breaking the warrenty rules.....
I see...
I'm not against unlocking - I would do it if it's worth it - but I'm skittish on any problems happening because of it and not having a warranty to cover it. Is that a genuine concern to have with my Prime and unlocking it? I'm pretty tech-savvy, so I doubt I would screw up the process, I'm just not sure of the risks.
15 day of use
Hi, i´m joining the search for a root method in .21, i think this will be usefull for people like me that just bought their primes, even i havent received the gps dongle, so losing my warranty a this time will be premature, 'cause i need be sure that my tablet works ok, thats one of the rasons we will search

MOBILETECHVIDEOS 4.3 Downgrade

Is this the only option someone has to return to 4.1.2? I received a replacement phone via ASSurion and sadly, it came with 4.3. I miss my GN3 Custom ROM / Lack of Bloatware / freely changeable GUI.
This MOBILETECHVIDEOs solution seems to be offering a service for $75 to downgrade seems like a waste of money to me -- especially for a service that has been offered for free for so much time. I have supported (donated) to devs in the past, but this doesn't seem like a worthwhile use of money.
1) Can anyone comment on the service provided? (I read mixed reviews, that you do not actually get rid of the 4.3 bootloader, just navigate around it to install custom recovery / ROM)
2) Is it common knowledge that devs are working on a fix for this? I don't want to be the guy to throw $75 away, only for a free DIY fix to come out in a few weeks.
Thanks
AB
There are quite a few threads and comments about this. You can read some of the stuff from this thread here first.

MobileTechVideos does have a great reputation around XDA the internet and their YouTube channel so it's safe to say it is legitimate and trustworthy. They're very well known for their un brick services. Hope this helped.

Thanks!!
I am guessing 4.3 fix isn't really pursued much now? This OTA came out months ago..
I guess I'll just chalk it up and go through them. Thanks

Quickest way to root Neken N6?

I just want to root it to fix the gps issues and no more, simply as I am on holiday and have to find a hotel tomorrow which is miles from the train station so want to know how to get there quickest lol, I saw some people recommending Vroot and others saying avoid it as it collects info.
Thanks in advance for any help

Could Samsung provide an easy root tool ?

Would Samsung be able to develop an easy tool to root old, outdated phones and tablets without their having to invest a lot of time or money or would it be just as difficult for them as for hackers? It would be good P.R. in that they do not provide many updates.
I have two aging 10.1 tablets (p600) and would love to have an easy way to root.

Samsung won't do that sort of thing, no. The trouble is it would cost money that they wouldn't get back and it could potentially make them liable for any problems that people cause by modding something they shouldn't.
Samsung would much rather people just invest in a new tablet or handset instead of keeping old ones.
