[Q] Is it bricked? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried rooting S2 then using Odin to update firmware to 2.3.4 but it failed. Now all I get is a message saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
Because I wasn't using Kies I haven't got a recovery code.
Is there an idiots guide to getting my phone to work? I'm a bit of a noob and have searched for solutions but can't find any.
Thanks in advance.

I don't think that's bricked. Just pull out the battery for 10 seconds and put it back.

Factory reset via recovery and install a stock rom via Odin.

Flash a kernel with CWM over odin, boot into CWM recovery, copy a custom rom to internal sd card and flash this using CWM

No its not bricked.i dont see why you shouldnt have a recovery mode. You dont need to root to upgrade either.pull the battery and leave it out a while.when you swith your phone back on boot into download mode and reflash a stable firmware.

Thanks everyone, I panicked. All sorted now.

if i am to flash rom using odin, how should i do it?
As per the instructions in the thread you get the rom from is the usual way .
Flash Chainfires root with CWM 4e as per the instructions via Odin .

Don't forget to do a backup before you flash.

Can't fix a failed root

Hi
I received my phone back from repair today and proceeded with the CM7 guide on rooting.
I failed to put the phone in to USB debugging.
I installed the drivers for heimdall and followed the guide to flash ClockworkMod Recovery
The phone was then stuck on the boot screen. Not the splash welcome animation.
Figuring something went wrong there I decided to flash it using Odin with the Lightning Rom.
It got stuck at 'Starting NAND Write' so I restarted the phone. Same issue, stuck at the start screen.
I can still get in to download mode and so tried to flash the stock Kernel and ROM.
All is successful in odin but when it starts I get put in to Android Recovery mode with a bunch of 'failed to open' errors.
After rebooting it's still stuck on the boot screen.
I really don't know what to try next.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
I see you're on Orange UK, are you sure you have an I9100 and not an I9100P (or some other variant)?
Difficult to work out what you have actually done and why .
But first step would be .

Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .

I'm using the same files as I used previously. It's listed as a GT-I9100 in download mode.
I'm currently attempting to flash it again on a different PC.
Ok, So I fixed it, phew!
Further reading lead me to believe I had damaged the partition table as it was unable to read from the cache.
So I followed this guide to flash a stock rom that included a .pit file:

Help!!!!

Whenever i try and install xLPQ from cwm or via odin i get a Kernel Panic Upload Mode message. I can not get back to cwm recovery and have to flash a previous cf root with a previous cwm and kernel Any ideas.
i've tried ultimate cleaning script as suggested in the forums and tried flashing XLPQ from internal sd card using cwm. Still goes into kernel panic mode, i can cf root with lph which allows me to reinstall omega 4.0.
You may try to flash again stock service firmware(2.3.x) through Odin and after flash LPQ on it through Odin too.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
just tried that same outcome.
I just tried flashing original stock rom again and old cf root lp2 and phone would not boot at all just stayed on opening screen luckily i was able to install omega 4.0 which was on my sd card but none of my back ups work.
Hm...it's very interesting. I have no ideas anymore, but I think how to help you.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
i can flash roms with lpb and Lp2 through cwm recovery but any other kernel like siyah or stock xlq causes the kernel panic upload mode message on start up.
Ok Ive just tried to flash the latest omega rom going from 4.0 to 5.0 seems like if i go anywhere near XLPQ the phone boots into Kernal Upload Panic Mode anybody know of the changes made in build XLPQ that could make the phone do this.
Wipe phone install GB stock and start all over install via ODIN .

Need an Odin ICS rom - soft bricked :(

Hi, I need a stock odin ICS ROM (preferably 4.0.4) for my GS2 so that I can unbrick it. I was using [email protected] and when I installed Resurrection-remix_ics_V1.7_AOKP-Build34_4.0.4 over it all I got was the boot logo and then a black screen. When I start on recovery mode it will only allow me to install from an external source.
thanks in advance
if you are able to get Download mod,
pick the ICS roms from here and flash from ODIN
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
there is no ODIN flashable 4.0.4 official ROM released.
YOu are not bricked, mount your sd card from CWM to pc, download some rom zips , copy it to your card and flash it from cwm.
Many thanks, ZaC!

[Q] Samsung S2 Boot problems after CWM recovery 5.5.0.4

Hi Guys,
I have a samsung s2 with some version 4.1.2(I don't remember).
I wanted to upgrade it to JB 4.2.1
I went to some links which mentioned that I should install CWM recovery before going for flashing of ROM.
However what mistake i did is I tried to load GT-I9100_ICS_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.5.0.4.tar on the phone using ODIN (which I think is an ICS version).
With this...problem is I am able to go to download mode, also I can go to CWM recovery mode with errors like unable to mount the sd card.
But the phone does not start.
It boots to the start-up screen and shows a yellow warning triangle below and shuts down.
I am not able to use the phone at all.
Need some help. Is there a way to go to stock firmware or to remove this CWM recovery to take it to whatever android stock firmware version it was.
Please help.
Download stock rom from Samfirmware, flash with Odin (How ? Thread stickied near top of Q&A has all the info you need). Clean slate.
Then flash custom kernel to root your phone & give you CWM. Flash custom rom/kernel of your choice.
