I accident left my Photon during lunch (1 hour) in my car dock under direct sun light for an hour with GPS running and outside temperature is 89F. Get in the car after lunch, I saw black screen so I press unlock and screen comes on with the message said that the phone is in cooling mode and can only be used for emergency call only. This is great, at least it just doesn't shut off completely. after 15 minutes it turn back ON automatically (with 15 minutes of driving in AC).
Come to think of it. If we have kernel that overclocking CPU, Devs my want to pay attention to the overheating protection code.
Good to know ! Thanks for the info.

What happened to the 3vo being able to talk and surf at the same time as many reports had stated prior to the release of the 3vo? Is this something to be added later or a never gonna happen type of thing?

It works just fine, but only if your data connection is either via wifi or 4G.
Yes I know that same as the EVO but i meant over 3g not 4g or WiFi

Sprint has to enable svdo on their network. The 3d and the EVO shift have the chip set. They are just not activated.

would be better marketing against at&t really, since they are the only one with bragging rights at the moment to be able to do this, not even verizon can at the moment.
Actually the Verizon Thunderbolt can do it currently. Its been something that has been making me think about jumping ship, though at those prices, I should buy a flip phone for when my Evo is online...
The thunderbolt can only do it on LTE and the phone has no toggle to turn LTE off unless its rooted

No the Verizon TB can do it over cdma without being in LTE area. Not all VZ areas support it yet but the phone deff can do it.

Don't think so. the way sprint is doing their voice+data will require a certain chipset on the phones that supports SVDO, which last I checked is NOT in the EVO3D nor the shift. The MDM9600 is the only one ive seen and confirmed to have this built in.
Also a lil note for people that are interested This post lays out some things for the future in sprint and are pretty reliable sources for those that do not know them.

Well people, after reading this thread I just had to put in my 2 cents about it. I live in a 3G area of upstate New York with NO 4G around me and can talk and surf on my Thunderbolt. That was the only reason I dropped the call dropping iPhone with at&t and swithed. I drive a truck "18 wheeler" and everywhere I have gone in the New England area that doesn't have 4G I have been able to do this.

No he's most definitely wrong. The Thunderbolt can do simultaneous voice and data on 3g in svdo enabled areas.
Talk and Surf on EVO and EVO 3D
The solution is not at all elegant and drain the battery pretty quickly.
What else is new here?
In any event, be it in 3G or 4G (irrelevant for 4G I guess):
1) activate the built-in hotspot (password protect it to prevent others taking
advantage of FREE Wifi draining your battery faster than Concord)
2) Activate the phone Wifi and connect to the newly created Wifi in Step 1
At this point, you should be able to talk and surf; an added bonus (already available thru the hotspot feature), is you're able to connect other devices to the Hotspot connection created in Step 1.
The new problem you will have now is to find yourself a lasting battery.
I picked up a HD dock this week Monday. When I am playing audio via any app about once a song the dock will sudden stop playing out of the speakers and play out of the phone. It lasts about 2 seconds I tried a few other speakers and headphones and they all do it. It is not a bid deal it is just annoying.
anyone else have this issue or did I get a malfunctioning dock?

Very strange! No, I haven't had this happen to my dock.
Just for the heck of it, try blowing on the hdmi port on the phone and dock, uplug the hdmi cord from both tv and phone. restart the phone, turn off the tv, blow on the hdmi cord on both end, and try again. double check the connection.
-----
If not try another app to route audio over bluetooth.
Let me know if they work.

I got a reply from a mod on the moto forums regarding the unlocking of the bootloader
Here it is
Nope no Motorola phones have unlocked bootloader solutions at this time. Motorola XOOM tablet is the only device currently. As providers allow certain devices will get the capability enabled.
Oh fun.....so ya if there is anything i can do to start helping devs get us a fully functional unlocked bootloader ...plz let me know...cause it doesnt sound like moto is gonna help us out anytime soon

Can we be clear..the bootloader has been unlocked on the photon ..but it breaks wimax 4g to be unlocked
So if you do not use wimax or have wimax in your area...unlock
Oddly with the way wimax vs lte is going and wimax coverage area to loose just one thing, wimax to unlock is looking less an issue.....do I want my wimax...yes
..but i can unlock if need..but i do want both

You are quite correct.
But from my point of view, that does not constitute "unlocked" since it broke something we know about, and there's always the possibility it broke something else we don't know about (but not likely).
I don't consider the Photon to be unlocked since I travel a lot and want all the standard features to work wherever I go.
Just saying ...
Borked unlocked
I have never had 4g til bout a month ago..i get it at my house...my high speed internet crash for couple days...i need high speed for work....my photon saved the days!! Thankfully for teathering
So ya..i loved how much custom roms and kernals improved my evo..honestly without them i would of went back to the iphone
I love this phone but i feel it could do so much more....but not at the risk of loosing important features like 4g
A unlocked bootloader...i think its worth a bounty.... lets get it started!!!

Periodically, my phone will enter a state of extreme unresponsiveness, to the point of being unusable. If I wait it out, everything eventually clears up. Problem is it used to be 30-60s, now it's minutes.
The most reproducible way to get this to happen is to restart my phone. When I do this, I literally put my phone down for 30-45 MINUTES and just wait.
I just struggled through updating to 45.2.7 today, and re-rooted (took WAY too much effort, but that's a different story).
Are there any apps I should look out for that could be the culprit? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Wow. I have the exact same problem with my phone. I can even try to make a call but it never connects right away. 10-20 minutes later it will connect. Even apps I try to open do the same thing. Then it took me 3 days to finally upgrade also and then rooted it. Like u said after 30 - 45 minutes or so it's better but sometimes still randomly unresponsive. Reboots and battery pulls dont seem to help at all. I'm running stock rom and rooted. Any help would be greatly appreciated also.

Yea I can guarantee that the speeds will be much lower with more than a few people connected to the network. I'm just impressed that Sprint is capable of this is all.

Check out the company called light squared and search it with sprint in the same search. Sprint is paying out the ass to make it work. I'm a recruiter and I work with the company they have recently had some break through and even some test. If it works out. Sprint will be able to use the tech to transfer their LTE anywhere you can receive a GPS signal.
