Yes, but 3G Watchdog doesn't work on European GT10.1 3G.
I have tired 3G Watchdog and Droidstats - both don't work on GT 10.1v
After un-installing both I re-installed 3G Watchdog, and it seems to be working
Hi guys,
As far as I know (but please let me know if I'm wrong), no usage counting application works correctly with the Galaxy Tab 10.1, I guess it must be a problem with the Android implementation on the tablet.
Richard (3G Watchdog developer)
I know my question might seem idiotic, but I use GTab 7510. Since I am on wifi only I connect to 3g data through my craddlepoint travel router with a Huawei modem stick. Is there a specific widget or app which can see different data usages from different hotspots? This would relieve me from taking my modem, stick it on a PC and ask the provider how much data usage have I got.

I switched from Rogers to Fido, been getting bye on 500mb/wifi with never a problem... now I been on fido for 6 days and it says I already used 600mb of my 1 gig!?
I am mostly home currently (wifi)... so I have NO idea what is going on. Is there a way to see what and if something is using a lot of data all of a sudden? Or is fido just getting me
Update! So I installed the free version of 3g watchdog.... and ironically enough, it shows that it is incoming data that is HIGH! Oddly high.... but how can I know what exactly it is? It is pretty weird that I have gone all those years using 500mb, and now I have used 1.02gigs in 2 weeks.... I have even stopped things from doing auto/refresh sync etc... and the last couple of days, I had network data off entirely.... because of overages?
thx in advance
I use 3g watchdog to track my data useage. It seems to work pretty well.
That data useage is pretty high!... sure you not acidentally using your phone as a wireless tether?
yea, considering I been home all week... and in the last 2 years, I been able to get by under 500mb a month....
I will try that app, but I really do not think anything on my phone is that active... heh.
Data Nil
I use Quick Settings to turn Mobile Data APN off .

I know this does not make a lot of sense.... and I am not sure what I am expecting, lol.... but I do not see how I can be using this much data.. while NOT doing anything different, barely running background data, not streaming etc....

Hi
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I am in a good area for signal and with previous phones am consistently on H. With my S2 it frequently switches between 3G and H even if it stays in the same spot. It will do it every few minutes.
This is causing havok when I try and tether and my Transformer and laptop keep getting signal interruptions.
Does anyone have a fix? I have Fast Dormancy disabled and I'm aware there may be some other engineer menus that have signal settings in that might work?
Thanks
Paul

Mine also switches between G/H/H+ all within 5 secs... yeah 5 seconds and it is kinda annoying.
Are you on GIFFGAFF as stated on you profile? or other network? cause I thought if might have do to something with vodafone..
Otherwise may be its something to do with the hardware settings, I too would like to know the answer

Now, for me wouldn't 3G and H/H+ both be considered as WCDMA under Mobile Network Settings? G and E would be GSM right?
If that is the case, staying on WCDMA wouldn't fix the problem.

Your phone shouldn't lock onto a H/H+ signal unless it has started to download data. That's how the protocol works.
If your phone is sitting idle it should be on 3G.
You should only get H/H+ when your phone is actively downloading.

No problems to report in Amsterdam.
I'm biking through the whole city to get to work, no disconnects using TuneIn or Google Music. Provider is Vodafone, HSDPA+ all along the way.
Its Android issue
Think when iPhone, Windows phones have not had this issue, wat else other than Android. I have tried 3 different handsets. 3 different network - 3, O2 and Vodaphone. All has same problem. Android is the only thing common. I have been scouring the internet and posted everwhere possible since Dec 2010 from when I became Android user. There is no solution. Everone seems busy making their own Android versions and apps. Result there is no basic data and voice stability on Android. Have been relying on my decade old treo to receive n make important calls. Wonder where this is going. My heart n soul seems to sway to the iPhone lately. Atleast wat they give works well.
Its Android issue
BTW those config settings are useless too. I have even used the code to get into hidden menu and change config but no use. It's the same issue. From H to 3g and from G to E I gsm.
Sorry for the question, but whats the problem with switching? I have the same thing but is not a problem for me.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Nobody should get worried about that switching, THIS IS NORMAL!
H/H+ is an high speed 3G protocol.
Basically:
1. 3G means DL 384 Kbps tops. The modem is under 3G signal most of the time. Whenever something on your phone starts checking/d-loading it communicates at THE BEGINNING under 3G protocol. Also, long ping time> 210 ms.
2. HSDPA max 14 Mbps/HSDPA+ can go as high as 42 Mbps ( topped only by cell tower). If there's need for large packet data or shorter ping time, IT AUTOMATICALLY SWITCHES TO H/H+(IF AVAIL). Hsdpa consumes more power and it's a communication protocol. When connected under H/H+ error correction bits are transmitted along data stream. It's like switching your home wifi on b/g/n. ...or like the automatic gearbox going to overdrive.
If you see a lot of this switching it means there's a lot of downloading/uploading going on.
I have it switching too between 3g and h on o2 and its making the internet so unstable you cannot do anything at all. This is certain not normal as the switch happens every second and continues to do so until phone is off
Mine is also switching to 3G once connection is idle for about 3 seconds. So far no problem and it uses less power than my SGS1 for browsing since my SGS1 doesn't switch to 3G when idle.
Mine is no problem between this signal switching, check your area or check your country maybe too much communication devices there so that's why it is distorted. Just use the common carrier with plenty of cell sites for a good signal of your phone.
What do i need to dial to fix it to 3g only from 2g?
Hi everyone,
I've got a retail, international Atrix (bought from Expansys) that came with Android 2.2.2. Now it is unlocked and I installed Cyanogenmod on it (therefore, Android 2.3.7).
I am located in Italy.
The Radio I installed is Orange France N_01.100.00R, that appears to be the best one for Intl. users with Gingerbread.
When I am on the home screen, is it normal to see the 3G icon becoming H and coming back to 3G within a couple of seconds?
When I use an application requiring Internet (e.g. Google Maps, Browser, ..), the icon switches to H and appears to stay in that state. When the application does not need the connection anymore (e.g. when the web page has been loaded), the icon flips back to 3G.
Is this a normal behavoir, or is this a Radio problem?
Yes it's normal for it to toggle between 3G & H, the H means high speed data connection, does it on my UK Orange Atrix all the time

Can you elaborate? I think I have OPs problem as well. The "toggling" is constant. Like every half second it will switch from 3g to h, while standing in the same area. Its not like a toggle that happens every 20 minutes as we move from one cell tower to another. You get that too?

More than likely you are in a fringe coverage area. Really the only way that I can see you improving this issue even more is flashing a different radio to your phone, but that's not even a guarantee that it will truly fix things. It could also make things worse.
For what it is my phone switches from H to Edge in my own home at different points during the day. I've tried forcing my phone in 3G only, but all that did was drain my battery faster.
Bottom line - you could change the radio, or try to get used to it...

Well, since there is no 3g antenna, that means there is no possible way to get 3g, unless you buy a mobile hotspot.

If your on AT&T and have a non-smart phone Samsung Mythic... you can tether it to your iPod Touch (granted you have one) and make an Ad-Hoc network with it via the wireless, then connect to it on your SGP. Battery life is fantastic so you can just keep the other two devices (the phone and iPod) in a backpack or something near you. Tedious but it works, especially since the data is unlimited on a non-smartphone plan (and they don't notice, or at least haven't for the last 2 years) if you Bluetooth DUN tether.
How would i tether my SGP To a phone?

As far as I know, bluetooth tethering won't work with Android. So you'd need a phone with WiFi to share the 3G connection over. If your blackberry doesn't have WiFi, you'd need another device that does as the middle-man. Which becomes a bit of a hassle.
Google your phone and it's modem and make sure you won't get any extra charges for tethering (most phones WILL lead to charges without a tethering plan on unlimited data, but some seem to be hidden). And if you do, just pay for a tethering plan I suppose.

Then there is probably a guide somewhere on how to share it, I don't know whether or not AT&T will see it though, so be warned, I wouldn't risk a smartphone unlimited plan for that kind of thing. In my case, I pay for non-smartphone unlimited data and tether it so I don't really lose anything if I'm caught (It's been over 2 years so far) since it's like $10/month for AT&T 3G HSDPA.

I don't think Bluetooth DUN is possible over Android. I know it is on iOS, but I don't think anyone has gotten it to work with non-Android phones (like a Blackberry or my Samsung featurephone).
You could use your BlackBerry to make a Wireless network, but that COULD impose extra charges depending on your carrier (AT&T charges a good $10+ extra (can't remember the exact).

That depends on the Carrier. Here in the states AT&T requires that you go to a new plan (limited) and charges you for the privilage of sharing your data. Or you can try CM's new undetectable tethering as it is done at a lower level than the providers see.

Interesting, have more info on this? Considering that AT&T detects tethering using browser useragent now (DO NOT USE Dolphin HD or any other browser that uses a desktop useragent on AT&T if you're on an unlimited plan!), there's no way to do undetectable tethering without an encrypted VPN.
To others - whether tethering costs you depends on your carrier. If you're in North America, it's basically guaranteed that your provider wants you to get a special tethering plan. It's usually possible to get around this, but as discussed above - providers try really hard to find ways to bust you. Tethering a Player should not cause any of the AT&T triggers discussed above though - I've been tethering my Tab 10.1 for ages without issue.

The bottom line is No. This device DOES NOT have a hidden/internal antenna and you can't mod it to have one. "External devices" would be a hotspot or cell phone that is sharing it's connection via tethering. Though I wouldn't consider that "3G for SGP", more like, "WiFi for SGP" since that's all it is; You can't make calls over the voice network through that data through your normal phone.
Kind of a silly question in general heh, but unless you go through a good deal of trouble to either get a hotspot device and carry it around, or do the Phone -> iPod Touch -> SGP thing I do; There really isn't any other way to do this.
I have an Optimus phone. Just added a Widgetsoid2 Hotspot toggle, push the button, and presto SGP connected. It is against terms of service on Virgin Mobile, but I plan on getting rid of my phone and getting Truconnect mifi. $5/mo Hotspot (plus .039 per mb). I use less than 100mb on 3G now that I have my SGP5.
You can make calls on wifi or 3G with GrooveIP. That's all I use on wifi, and I tested it tethered to my phone and also works fine.
Asit says in the title. This constant change between the two network types causes data to be slow and timeout quite a lot as well as drain battery. Even watching low quality youtube videos is impossible because of the switching. I'm on the current CM10.1 build right now. Is there anyway I can just stick to one network type instead of it switching every second? I've tried going into phone information and set it to gsm only, wcdma preferred, etc. But it also just goes back to gsm auto (prl). And finally the weird thing is that there will be moments of time where data can be consistent (for like 5 minutes) and then it'll revert back to being slow.
Ive read in older posts (early 2012) that going to build.prop and changing ro.ril.hsxpa or somethinf like that helps. I can't find that so I'm wondering if theres another way to keep it at UMTS or HSDPA and NOT have it switch.
I'm on the Wind Mobile Network right now with baseband 1.15 if that helps. (I'm also a noob who can just flash stuff and new to this phone so go essy on me ^_^)
They are the same network. The phone just switches from hsdpa to umts when data is not in use to save battery. But hsdpa+ is just a higher speed version of umts, just like edge is a higher speed form of gprs. So That is not what is causing the time outs. It's probably just had network where you are. Mine switches between umts and hsdpa+ all the time, and my connection never times out.

Yes I know they're supposed to switch but that's the thing; even in standby it keeps switching constantly almost every other second causing battery drain. And the reasn why I'd prefer just hsdpa is that data is consistent on it whereas umts just times out on me almost everytime or rather when the two switch. Is this just a network issue?
I think it is just a network issue, as with tmobile as soon as the phone calls for data, it goes to hspa and there is not lag when it switches.
