[Q] Manual flashing of Custom Recovery (Samsung Galaxy Ace) - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Can someone help me how to manually flash custom recovery for my samsung galaxy ace? As I use ROM Manager, my phone is not in the list.
I already downloaded the .img file from koushikdutta site.
Thanks.

Dude, you gotta be kidding. There is clear topic here below stating in red font that ROM Manager is not compatible with the Ace, and you will end up bricking your phone...

Thanks for the quick reply!
Just a question, how can you so sure that ROM Manager is not compatible with SG Ace? Based on some forums, they successfully used ROM manager for SG Ace. thanks!

Okay I quit! ROM Manager is not compatible with SG Ace "yet".
Now, can you help me how can I backup my SG Ace and add restoring guide if you have.
I planning to try a new rom, so I need to backup first for safe reasons. Thanks!

2. Have ODIN.
3. Ready your Cooper.ops file.
4. Add the recovery file (.tar) in the PDA slot in Odin.

Simple. If you in GB, then use first one(put the zip file in to SD and so on).
But if you in FROYO, then use second one, with "ODIN".
Indeed for thanking, just push the T.... button!

Hey!
Go to HERE!
And how to go to recovery?
1)Shut down you phone.
2)Hold down POWER+HOME buttons together, until you screen blink once and then comes GALAXY ACE....(not just SAMSUNG logo). Now you can release the buttons.
Now you must see the RECOVERY menu. Use the steps, in that thread, what link I gave you.
ENJOY!

Sorry I have another question. Do I need to unlock my phone in order to flash into KPH? As you can see from my first post my firmware region is not from Europe and the custom rom I wanted to flash requires me to flash KPH first before flashing their rom. And also if im using CWM v4 in KPH, do i need to flash back into v3 before flashing back froyo since froyo still doesn't support CWMv4?

Hey!
You mean UNLOCK or ROOTING. I think you mean ROOTING? If yes, then you dont need to ROOT, before FLASHING to KPH(with ODIN).
If you FLASH custom ROM, they are all ROOTED already for now!
And for second question: you not need to FLASH CWM3. It will be removed automatically, if you FLASH to KPH with ODIN!

I mean unlocking because I heard that some people said that one need to unlock his/her phone before he/she can flash firmware of other region's. Base on your first answer, do you mean that flashing firmware and custom rom do not need root? Because I think I need to root before Flashing custom rom.( Anyway I have already rooted my phone.)

Hey!
You not need to ROOT, if you FLASH new FIRMWARE with ODIN(ROOT after FLASHING, because you LOSE you ROOT, if you FLASHING). And custom ROM-s not need to ROOT, they all ROOTED for now!

[Q] Flashing roms

Today I flashed my phone for the first time from stock 2.3.5 to CM7.1. Now I'm wondering, doI have to do some weird complex procedure every time I want to switch to a different rom? Or can I just put it to the root of the SD and flash it via cmw?
Also, I read that to go back to the stock rom, I need to flash the whole package back. I have no idea what that means. Can anyone explain what it is and how to do it? Thanks in advance.
You need to find a full package file, one that has different boot, modem and pda and csc to flash in Odin.
which is opposed to the one package containing only one tar file!

Wow. Where can I find the file? So far I've only seen the one package ones. :/
EDIT: Also, do you know anything about the different rom flashing processes? Or is it just one? (Flash all through cmw I mean)

Thanks! I'd click but I've already given out my 5 thanks xD. So to install any random custom rom, I just put it to the root of my SD and flash using CMW? No other special random procedure needed? Nothing needs to be cleared or deleted? Lol, sorry for all the questions. Just making sure.
You have to backup your rom then wipe data/factory reset then wipe cache. Then you can flash ur desired rom

Hey!
Jeah, always do the BACKUP(better in CWM, but you can use the Titanium Backup too[its not backup ENTIRE ROM, only APPS and settings]), only then flash or do some serious things. You never know ahead, whats waiting under corner, if you flashing. Simple flash can break and you get stuck in the middle.
CHEERS!
I am new to flashing of ROM and have never done that,
After reading all above post, I want to ask if I flash any custom rom (Like cyanomod or modified stock rom) If I want to go back to stock rom of my Ace 2.3.4, can I restore the back up that I have taken from CWM. There are following files in the backup
Android.img
boot.img
cache.img
data.img
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.img
Sorry in advance if I am asking any silly question and Thanks in advance for the support

Those procedures change from rom to rom,for some you might need to be at a certain baseband while for others you might need to clear cache, data and dalvik cache.Flashing through cwm is the easiest method if you ask me and one precaution you have to take before flashing any rom is a FULL NANDROID BACKUP,you never know what might happen.

Don't just say 'thanks',press the thanks button,if I helped you..
Flashing
Basically, if u have those 5 files like MODEM CSC ... U need to flash with odin... If u jus have a .zip, u can flash it with CWM.

Don't flash cf-root, flash any other (ex. Siyah), if you can't found kernel for your version of ROM.
