Cracked camera glass!! Sprint fixed for free! - HTC EVO 3D

Crap!! Yesterday I took my phone out of my Otterbox defender case because I decided it was too bulky. This morning I noticed what looked like a scratch on the glass covering the camera but when I looked closer I could see it was a crack that was already starting to spiderweb out. Man I was pissed, I had it in that case since new and have never dropped it. The Otterbox has a hard plastic area about 1/4 of an inch thick that covers that area of the phone and the only thing I can think of is the seatbelt lock in my jeep must have pressed hard against the case and caused this crack.
Now for the good news, I went to my nearest Sprint repair location and they fixed it right away no charge. They were very helpful, didn't care that I was rooted. At first he didn't know if he had the part but would call me when they got one in, but he checked the back and there was a returned 3D that he was able to grab the part out of. There are so many negative Sprint comments out there that I wanted to post this to let people know there are alot of good Sprint locations and service centers out there. And yes, I have TEP.

glad to hear it. rooting should not even matter if it is a physical defect. I think cracks have to be more than 2" before they turn u down. I got my rooted evo4g screen replaced for free when they were doing it for shattered screens. They didn't say a word about me being rooted. When I turned it in for my credit and got my 3d it was still rooted I just did a factory reset. No problems then either. I think it just depends on the center and tech. Glad to hear u had no problems

It should be just as easy as popping the camera module out, then putting a new one in. My friend had to have the camera replaced on the OG EVO, and all they did was pop the camera out, and pop a new one in.

It was actually just the back casing inside the battery cover. I think they only had to remove 4 torque screws after removing the battery cover and then put the new one on. Just glad they did it and were very helpful and friendly. They even loved my android blowing up apple boot animation.

LOL, pm you the location so the guy can get fired for fixing a rooted phone or for fixing a crack that wasn't covered under the warranty or the TEP? I'll get right on that.
Good to see they fixed it for you. My Shift had the camer glass crack, was always in a case and they told me it wasn't covered under warranty or TEP so I'd have to send it in for a replacement and pay the $100.

You live in Chicago? Go to Ford city mall and do business with the sprint kiosk right in the middle. They could give two f*cks about anything. When i got my Evo3D I traded in my rooted EVO with cm7 on it. Not saying you'll get lucky like I did though. I just hate going to corporate stores. So uptight.

Blackberry 3830 or try for another 3vo??

On my fifth return now and still, dust under the screen, tilted screen and green camera. The guy at the Sprint store (third party BTW) said that they were out and had no idea when they were getting anymore in. I only have about 8 days left til my 30 is up. I Called retentions and they said they could send my a loaner phone (bb 8330), refund my money and reset my upgrade. Should I take the offer and go to a corporate store for a new 3d, or keep hassleing the third party until they get a batch of un-defected 3vos?

return it for your money (and upgrade)...and wait it out until another batch comes in or go somewhere else for one. the phone is worth it....and this dev community seals the deal....
I think its time for you to start showering and also washing your clothes. This "dust" you speak of, funny how you read VERY little about it. Quit being picky and use your phone, its not a fashion show.
Because I paid good money for my phone and if anything is wrong with it, I want to be the cause of it, not come out of the box defective or blemished. The dust or particles under the screen are an eyesore and visable at all times. Quite frankly, as a paying customer, I have the right to return it until I'm satisfied. If your phone came out of the box with a crack on the screen or a jacked up power button, would you "just use your phone"? And by the way. Do get good reception under that bride where you live? Damn trolls!

What are the odds of getting 5 phones that have dust under the screen? Are you saying they come out of the box that way or did the dust gather under the screen after you used the phone some?
I highly doubt all 5 of your phones come fresh out of the box with dust under the screen. Return your phone and get your upgrade back then go to a corporate store from now on.
Not all of them had dust. The first one had a very green camera, the second ones camera wouldn't focus and the third one had a purple tint in all pics taken in sunlight. We compared them to the managers phone, and his camera was perfect. So I traded up again, this one had dust , dead pixels and what looked to be a cat hair? under the lens. And this one is crooked and dusty.

And i thought i had bad luck! I went through the same problem with best buy and tvs... No one believed me either, but oh well. Luckily ny first evo 3d was perfect.. but the photon i bought before it, not so much.

Just curious, what was wrong with your MoPho? I just returned mine today. Loved the phones build quality and the GG screen but the screen hurt my eyes and i just couldnt take blur anymore. My 3d should be here tomorrow
I could have gotten a faulty device but it was just very laggy and glitchy. Rebooted once and shut off another time within a hour.. Said forget it and swapped it for my evo 3d, glad i did.

BTW The whole Green Camera issue is a SOFTWARE issue not hardware. So returning it for that was pointless as HTC does know about it and does plan to have a software fix for it. I know this as I have had the same issue as well. Patients sometimes is what it takes. Especially when dealing with New items and especially ones that use software.

Dude just leave it alone, sure it sounds suspect but weirder things have happened... And my pictures do not favor green at all, may be a software issue but it def. varies from device to device then. Also you really think this store would be taking back all these phones without seeing problems? Youre crazy then. As he stated he compared it to the store managers camera.

If you have had more than 2 defective phones in a row you should return it, stop buying it, and get something else. No matter how you look at it (****ty luck, ****ty phone, sign from God, whatever) this phone is not meant for you and you should stop trying.
A Blackberry? Good luck with that, I would stick with an android phone for sure.

I dropped my Note

So to make a long story short my note fell out of my pocket today while I was helping out at a fundraiser car wash. No major damage done but just a small nick and scratch on the top right corner on the screen and outside. The actual functionality of the phone is fine and I can probably live with it but this small damage is going to eat away at me. So I want to know if I call att and complain about something wrong with my phone will they replace it? I have ensquared insurance and I don't want to use my $75 deductible yet.
And I've had the phone for over 30 days too

That's what sucks, I had the portfolio case on it because it was a gift, but I've been holding out for an otterbox case because I have a $50 coupon.
I think I might take the plunge because with my Atrix I had a legit issue that couldn't always duplicate but the speaker part was dented plus was unlocked and I was able to swap phones

U know what I returned one of my notes just because it had a piece of lint between the glass and bezel. That i could not get out. A case would cover it up but drove me crazy knowing it was there. :what:

First of all I was heading up the car wash to raise money for kids to go to a summer camp. I actually brought my atrix with me to swap sim cards but I left it in my car parked across the street. While running across the street it feel out of my pocket. Big picture I am grateful that no major damage was done but also that we all should be mindful how big this phone is and how easy it is to forget. Either way I've decided to just ride it out because any case that wraps around the phone will cover it up.

I cracked my screen I believe by sittiing on on it while in my back pocket. I called Samsung and they would replace the screen fro $197.00. Since I have a Square Trade warranty, I caledl and they could not fix the display so they gave me the full cost to replace it minus $49 decuctible.

Asurion has them in stock... Cracked screen with pictures.

While testing out some lighting I handed the phone to a friend to see how well the camera handles different types of lighting. Needless to say it slipped out of his hands when he jumped from a wasp frightening him. Drop from a little higher than waist high, but it did slide a little. Touch screen still works, but some pieces of glass did fall off (it chipped in layers- there's still glass just seems to be missing the top layer on some parts of the crack.
Photos to be up soon just got my replacement from asurion in ~3 days (was quoted 10-14). It's also new not a refurb . Otterbox on its way also.
Most surprising part was how badly the edge got muffed up was expecting the metal (aluminum?) piece to be a little harder and not this soft.
Focus goes really bad here sorry. The next one shows the crack went all the across the screen I think it spread after a day.
This one shows how badly the bezel got scratched up.
And the phone barely fits in the asurion envelope

It was my fault for handing the phone to a friend without any protection on it . Although the back is pretty smooth I like to blame the thinness of the phone.

Didn't have my dslr handy and couldn't get my new El Tevo to focus for its life...
They shouldn't be too small try clicking on them they're thumbnails.
Thanks for sharing and I'm happy to hear the insurance handled your claim so quickly. I am also thankful for these pictures as they made me extra assured that having a case and screen protector on is a good choice for me.
Oh and for those wondering it was a garage floor- smooth concrete no epoxy on it or anything.

I called sprint before setting up the claim on phoneclaim to make sure because I too thought it was $150. Didn't want to muck anything up by asking about the $150. But still it's amazing how the asurion guy quoted sprint (who then told me) I'd get it within 10-14 days because they had no stock but instead got it in 3.

Those are unbelievable prices. I guess Sprint is tired of getting ripped off by people lieing and saying there phone got stolen/lost and selling them on eBay. Oh well screw TEP and now I'm rockin Gocare.com.

I wish Sprint and Asurion would change the pricing based on past usage of the program. If you haven't replaced a phone in X months/years, then you should get Y% off of your premium/deductible. I am debating another option because $11/mth is just ridiculous.

I'm not sure that was the case. The esn certainly would be flagged and if it was an issue, the person selling it could easily be traced, insurance fraud style.
I agree tho, the prices are silly. I'll likely be dropping TEP as well

If not insurance fraud if the phone was stolen can't it be tracked and someone arrested? There are EVO LTEs on eBay already with Bad ESNs.

Even with a bad ESN the phone is worth something. Plus from what I've read a lot of people claim the phone as lost or stolen in the insurance claim for things like cracked screens wait ~30 days then post it up for sale or call and claim they found it and try to get it taken of the esn blacklist... Also suprsingly the asurion envelopes don't have tracking #s...

sprint 30 day replacement?

ok so i got this phone on the 5th i believe and ever since that day i have had a case on it but today i was with some people and they wanted to see how it looked without a case. so i took it off and gave it to him and while he was looking at it he turned to me and said "is this supposed to be bent?" so in shock i look at my phone and sure enough the metal bar or strip i guess you would say that is under the home button by the mic is dented toward the back of the phone. since im very careful with my phones and haven't dropped this phone at all and my og evo thats 2 years old doesn't have a scratch on it so i can't figure out where it came from.
so would i be able to take it to the sprint store i got it from and replace it? its just one of those things that once you saw it, it can't be unseen and its driving me absolutely nuts

Return to cancel is 14 days, replacement/exchange is 30 days
So you're going to take back what I'm guessing is a perfect running phone, cause a thin metal strip is slightly bent? Dude if you have no clue how it bent, then I'm sure eventually the new phone will probly bent at some point. Regarless I think you only had 14 days anyways and I'm sure the sprint store will blame you for the bent strip. I say put it and the case and forget it.

i purchased et4g from sprint local store on 6/3 and the guy told me i have 14 days to cancel or exchange it. On 6/15 i exchanged the et4g for evo 4g lte, the sprint employee told me it doesn't extend the 14 days exchange period.
Yeah they basically told me I'm screwed and there is nothing I can do... this is going to kill me since I'm a perfectionist. Especially with my evo's

What about the warranty through HTC?
Now that I think of it, sprint is evil, and it would be a pain in the ass, but HEY, he could get lucky and get a cool rep?

HTC doesn't cover physical damage.

yeah the only thing i can do it take it to a service center and see it they can straighten it. but all sprint phones come with a 12 month manufacturer defect warranty. so maybe i can fiddle with a port or something to see if they will replace it? its a **** move but might consider it unless i can go to the sprint store when the cool guy is there. they guy there was kinda new and doesn't cut deals haha

Bent Phone

So me and my buddies went go karting today and this is what happened to his phone. Its rooted and unlocked, and everything still works though. Do you think Sprint would give him a replacement if he took it in?

I went into Sprint the other day and they say they cover rooted/unlocked phones regardless.. if there's insurance. I thought it was weird too.
But you said it works fine.. So I doubt they'd do anything. Lol.

The insurance through asurion covers it. If you need a tech to fix it or replace it then that's a no go, as it is considered physical damage

But I dropped my first EVO LTE from the roof of my parents motorhome (about 10 ft. up) when it feel out of my pocket. I have the black tie protection plan from best buy and they ended up just giving me a new phone. I guess it was just too expensive or easier to just replace it. It fell flat on the screen and shattered the glass. Nothing else was damaged from what i could tell. I was surprised they didn't fix it though as it still responded to touch. I was even able to connect it to my tv using an MHL adapter and make a more recent backup before sending it in.
