[Q] How to get more options from power button? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a friend with a samsung vibrant and he is able to hold down the power button and get options such as: boot into recovery, restart, and a few more along with the regular ones (power off, airplane mode, silent mode).
Is there such a thing for atrix?
I thought it might be from the program rom manager but I installed (cool program btw) and it didn't have any other options when holding the power button.
At the moment I have the bell gobstopper rom, faux123 kernel, and ATT radio.
Any ideas?
edit: could it be rom specific?

Yes it can.
Its according to the rom.
My gf's xperia x8 with custom CM 7 rom it has more reboot options.
(reboot, reboot into xRec, reboot into CWM Rec)
Also gingerblur on atrix, which I m currently into, has reboot option.
Some themes also may include these options..

1. Silent
2. Airplane mode
3. Choose profile
4. Screenshot
5. Reboot (Reboot,recovery,fastboot)
6. Power off

THE BEST ROM MANAGER! (works on the streak)

Guys,
Go to this website and download elegos' rom manager. It actually works on the streak. When you hit the boot into recovery option just hold down on the volume up and down button at the same time and you can enter customer recovery of your choice without fastbooting. I flashed streakmod's customer recovery using fast boot and elegos's app gets to it without connecting to your computer. You can perform rom updates, backups, and installs with this app. Its very cool. Check it out
http://www.elegosproject.org/android-rom-updater
**EDIT** I have since found that I am able to boot into custom recovery without this app.... I still think this app is very cool if you supply some cool repo's...
Thank you, it may be the tool and push I needed to start flashing on Android.
I was a pro in WM. Well, all you had to do was to copy file over to SD and restart the phone in update mode...so I was a pro on it, flashing very regularly.
For some reason Android seems much more complicated to get my head around.
Thanks again for sharing the knowledge
you mean, you installed this and you're still booting into streakmod with the volume buttons, so if you reset the phone without running the apps and hold the volume buttons down you will still get to the same screen....
the great thing about clockwork is that it was meant to do it all for you. just pick the rom in the os and away you go!
If you have to reboot and hold volume up and down to go into recovery then its not a rom manager, just a tool for rebooting. I can do the same thing on my streak now with rom manager and clockwork. Rom manager should do everything for you once you select update rom without the need to go into the recovery menu yourself.

guys, clockword rom manager has never worked on the streak... when you click boot into recovery it just restarts the phone and does nothing... 95% of all other phones when you click the boot into recovery it just goes with no button pushing. On the streak the button pushing won't even work with rom manager/clockwork. With this rom manager the reboot into recovery option gets you into streakmod custom recovery with vol up and vol down... Previously, I had to fastboot command my way into custom recovery.
Have you guys been having luck with rom manager booting into recovery by using the vol up and vol down? doesn't work for me... even after flashing the so called fix in the streak development forum

never, i just have streakmod flashed and use the button method, have a reboot shortcut on my furthest screen. works for me.
Look at "StreakMod". It is a custom ClockworkMod that fits the Streak. The first time you flash StreakMod, you need a computer to do it.
But, from there, it is as simple as downloading the Rom to your SD card, then rebooting holding the volume buttons, select the Rom, and it does the rest. StreakDroid (aka DJ_Steve's custom ROM) has an additional step of letting you pick what options you want on your device by way of editing an "install.txt" file on your SD card, but you can probably do that without a computer, too, if you want.
Cool.. thanks. I will admit that I have apparently been doing something wrong. You guys rock

[Q] Having a hard time getting into Recovery Mode

I flashed my Vibrant using the gingerbread bootloader found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990 and this 2.3.4 rom with voodoo lagfix found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228306.
The gingerbread bootloader has recovery and downloading key remapped, for downloading its VOLUP and POWER and for recovery its supposed to be VOLDOWN and POWER. Getting into downloading mode works fine but I can't get recovery to boot all the time, I got it to boot to the ClockworkMod Recovery with Voodoo Lagfix (red colored recovery a few times) but I think I used the combination of VOLDOWN and POWER and then pressed VOLUP and VOLDOWN only to get it to boot.
Recently however I have been unable to boot into recovery at all, VOLDOWN+POWER doesn't work (only causes a boot loop) and VOLUP+VOLDOWN+POWER then release power at Vibrant logo also doesn't work.
Can someone tell me an easy key combination to get into recovery? I really don't want to install ADB.
Is there not an option in the power menu to boot into recovery?
Have you tried an app to do it for you?
worst case, just flash something else...
You need to make sure your phone is completely off before trying to access recovery. The screen on the vibrant when it is almost off is also black, but that does not necessarily mean its off.
I somehow lost clockwork mod recovery, I think the rom I used uses the red cwm recover mode, whereas the ROM manager wants the green cwm recovery.

I actually think the Red recovery mode is prefered or is the latest version unless u had the E signature verification error. I am almost sure u can re flash another or update the recovery via SD root
Depends on what rom you have loaded it could be Blue or amber as well.
Make sure you have Rom manager downloaded (I assume you do) and enable it. Then, turn off and then pull the battery. Then re-insert the battery and go into recovery manually by holding the vol+ and - and power button. Here is a thing to remember, usually it is... let the screen blink 2 times and after the second blink release the buttons and it should go into recovery. But, depending on the rom it could be 3 times or 4. You may need to experiment on that. I have found if one suffers from getting into recovery ....once you have done it manually rom manager and all the others afterwards work perfectly. Software can be quirky....
hope you get it....

Unnamed 1.04 power button issue

I'm having an issue that when you press and hold the extended menu for "Reboot", "Power Off" etc isn't showing, instead it looks as if it's rebooting the phone as I see the boot animation then then desktop comes up again.
Anyone have an idea why this is happening?
sounds like you flashed a mod on it, that wasnt made for it....

Just download this SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar
and flash it with ODIN: http://www.multiupload.com/QQKN7NJAFT
After its done and you reboot the phone pressing the power button will
bring up the extended menu which includes "recovery" (cwm recovery).
I had that problem after I flash certain things to the rom after installed it. For example after I had flashed the circle battery icon in cwm it did that. But all I did was flash the TV animation again and it fixed it

You right it's the circle battey that I added afterwards.
I'll try flashing the tv animation and see if that resolves it.

GS2 wont boot passed recovery

Hi guys,
Late last year i sold my GS2 to a guy at work. Rooted and with a custom ROM installed (Cognition V1.5.1 - yes i know its old but its not my phone )
I've attempted to install RC1 for CM9 this morning however, I'm falling at the first hurdle. I've booted into Clockwork recovery (4.0.0.2). The menu buttons work fine i.e, up/down and power as enter but when i select anything it goes to a black screen with the ROM Manager logo on it (the gog and the hat) - but no options.
Do i need to install a newer version of Clockwork on the device? If i do whats the best way to do it? Do i use ROM Manager to update it as i cant access any of the menus in recovery (other than the top menu)
I've not seen this problem before as normally people are kept in boot loops or cant get passed a splash screen.
EDIT - i've just managed to get the phone to boot and its now running as normal. I'm just concerned that if i go back into recovery i might not get it back up again.
Many thanks

You're pressing the wrong button lol... use the power button to confirm and the volume buttons to move up and down. The home button does nothing.

[Q] Padawan or Stock Deodexed_DEBLOAT

Newbie with i717 Unrooted stock JB. Due to apparent lag issues since updating to JB, I would like to improve performance by installing either Padawan or Stock deodexed_DEBLOAT ROM.
1. What are the differences between the 2 ROMS?
2. Where can I find the detailed steps to follow to install the Padawan ROM?
3. Where can I find the detailed steps to follow to install the deodexed_DEBLOAT ROM?
Go to the development thread. Each rom has instructions on how to flash. GL

I've use the Padawan jb 4.1.2
Its a great ROM. There were still some lag issues that some were experiencing. I did not. Maybe just what you use with it and how. There is also a kernel made just for it allowing over clock(oc) I liked it. Anyway there are a couple other ROMS available. The BlackStar X ( ICS 4.0.4) is a must if you haven't experienced it. Anyway hope this helps a little. Experiment a little....

I flash everything. There is no other way to know what you will like. It's all about how you use the rom. And remember, every phone responds different to different roms, the phone has a mind of its own. I did enjoy the padawan....great rom! Myself, I'm not much into stock roms though....Just have fun! :cyclops:
Stock deodexed debloated is just at&t official JB deodexed and debloate. You can look up the meaning of deodexed and debloated means getting rid of at&t and samsung crap apps.
With Padawan, the dev took the stock rom (probably the deodexed, debloated rom) and made some performance tweaks.
I have used previous versions of Padawan and they have been rock solid and stable. Paired with the custom OC kernel, it may be the best rom option

I have always used Padawan since version 4. Bought my note used, unlocked, rooted, then flashed Padawan.
Never felt the need to try another.

You really never tried any other roms?? That is amazing if it be the case. It is too easy to try the many, many great roms out there, to not do so. IMHO. Backups work wonders so you can go back with little hassle. Just curious.
Thanks to all for your help. i717 is currently UNrooted with stock JB 4.1.2. My plan is to flash either the debloated_deodexed ROM or the Padawan ROM (both of which are pre-rooted) using the following procedure:
1 It is not necessary to Root UNrooted phone before starting this procedure
2 Backup items on internal sd card (phone folder) to external SD or Computer
3 Odin307.zip file - extract 4 files to computer Desktop
4 openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-quincyatt.img.tar file - copy to computer Desktop
5 SGH-I717UCMD3_4.1.2_Stock_Deodexed_DEBLOAT.zipfile or Padawan_JB.zipfile - copy to root of External SD Card
6 Unplug phone and power off
7 Open odin3 v3.07.exe on computer desktop and click pda button
8 In pda dialog, browse to desktop and select openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-quincyatt.img.tar file, which puts link to twrp file in pda entry area
9 Put phone in download mode - hold vol down button and plug in usb cable
10 At warning screen, push vol up to continue and go to downloading mode
11 On desktop computer see connection under ID:COM (blue highlight) if no connection, may need to install drivers. curser should be blinking in phone entry area
12 To flash recovery, click start - recovery takes just a few seconds resulting in green bar at top left and RESET in blue highlight (& later PASS in green highlight?)
13 Phone will auto reboot - unplug phone after reboot starts (music tones)
14 Wait for phone to completely reboot and then power off phone
15 Push and Hold vol up & down and push power button
16 At Samsung logo, release power button
17 At Teamwin display, Release vol up & down
18 Push backup & with Boot, Data and System boxes checked, swipe to backup (2-3 min)
19 At finish, swipe to unlock
20 Don't reboot system, backup to screen with buttons
21 Select wipe button & swipe to factory reset
22 Select Advanced Wipe (may require backup to prev screen) & then select system and then swipe to wipe
23 Press Back button or backup arrow one or more times to screen with buttons and then select Install button
24 Find ROM File on SD Card: SGH-I717UCMD3_4.1.2_Stock_Deodexed_DEBLOAT.zip (or Padawan_JB.zip)
25 Select the ROM File with finger and then swipe to confirm flash.
26 After Flash, the word Successful should be displayed
27 Select reboot system (If TWRP offers to fix SU, select do not fix) and leave alone for 10 minutes after it boots up
28 Go thru setup process. e.g., when Use Google Location screen appears, select FINISH, etc
29 At home screen select Apps Icon - ATT Smart WFI is there but most other att apps & bloatware are gone. SuperSU is also there
Two Questions:
1. Does my phone have to be rooted BEFORE I begin the above procedure? (Update - not necessary to Root)
2. Are there any apparent errors in the above procedure?

No your phone does not have to be rooted to do all of this. That is by far the BEST and informative procedure I've read. The only thing that is not included in the list is downloading the custom pre-rooted rom onto the sdcard.

I have tried few other ROM before Padawan, but I like the stability of Padawan.
I am now running Telus official JB and debloated it myself. Padawan JB is AT&T based, and it is missing few things that I am looking for, but Telus has them.
I am just wishing ptmr will do a new version of Nebula, which is like Padawan, but based on Telus.
4.1.2 ends up getting laggy and extremely slow for me...clearing cache and such helps but always goes back ... I've flashed all of them .....4.2.2 is smoother on my device
