Ok, been floating around here for months... I've tried most of the roms out there..
Right now I'm using Cyanogen 7...
It works great, it's fast, 99% of everything works... except... the camera and HW video acceleration...
Which rom should I use if I want 100% of the device to work.
If I switch over to a Vegan 5 rom, the cam works, but then my 32 gig sd card doesn't show up....
So, I'm asking for someones opinion...
What is the best 100% working rom... Plus'es and Minus'es on it, work-arounds?
I can bounce around in a file manager and get things off the sd card, but the kids and wife can't... that's why I haven't stuck with Vegan 5...
Any help/opinion would be great.
Thanks,
Tim
Get "Camera Fun" from marketplace. Works fine on a Gtab using C M 7.

Rooted stock.
But for family friendly use, its hard to beat. After the market fix that is.
Or VEGAN Ginger 7.0
I am back on rooted 4349 because the kids can use it. VEGAN Ginger seems 40% faster than stock though.
That's what I am/was leaning towards, however I can't figure out how to have the system load from my 32 gig sd instead of the internal...
The kids have movies that eat up the internal rather quickly
Thanks for the reply.
Tim

Netflix works on vegan GE now with a little tweaking. Check out this helpful post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15147560&postcount=13
C7 better than caulk Clemson v6? I never used CM7. what are the major pros for cm7. This is my first rom. Thx
ONLY a froyo rom will work 100%, since that's the only android source that is available to work from. Ginger and HC are frankensystems, taking code from here and there to get a working OS.
I'm on Calk/Clem v6 1.2 bootloader and everythign is working fine. You'll get hardware acceleration, you'll have a working camera, you'l have access to SDcard. you won't have Netflix, but honestly, people, is the selection of netflix movies that stream really that great? Besides that, you'll need a wifi connection to stream them anyway. You mentioned that you have movies on the SD, then do you really need netflix? I only ever access netflix at home, through my Wii, so, no need for it on the tablet.
besides...check out "megaviewer pro"
Agreed 100 % with Calkulin/Clemsyn combo. Used it for a while until I tried Beasty2.2.a/Clemsyn combo on 1.2bl and stayed there since. Same if not better, and can play PlantsVsZombies.

See, that's what I thought so I've been looking for a good Froyo rom, but apparently now everyone is going gaga about Vegan GE. Folks claim its just as fast as the froyo edition (most forms of HW acceleration are now working, aside from HD playback if I understand correctly).
Also, wasn't a HC rom released last week for one of the sister tablets to our G-tab (think it was the Adam)? That should mean native driver support for HC.
But honestly, now I don't know what to think, and since I share this tablet with my wife and kids, I can't afford to go testing all the roms out there to find a good one.

See, I hate it when people say that. That's what people say when they want to justify their choices and just accept the lot given to them. Remember when iOS users said they don't really need MMS because they have email? Or that they really didn't need multitasking? But when they got all those things, suddenly they turned from "who needs that" to "look what the iPhone can do!". How many iOS users say they don't really need flash anyway, and secretly loathe that we can do it and they can't?
I'm glad you are happy streaming netflix with your wii. Do you remember last year when that didn't work yet? Every day I would check and see "Coming Soon" on their website. Did you feel like "meh, I don't need it on my Wii- I have it on my laptop!"?
Meanwhile, netflix was actually one of the deciding factors to get a tablet. Right now, when we go on family trips we pack light and bring a netbook for casual browsing and mini-movies. Until I saw netflix running on the G-tablet via a youtube demo a couple of months ago, I didn't consider replacing it with a tablet as an option.
So, you might even say this is rather critical for some people. Heck, I've been stuck on CM7 all this time, which I don't particularly like, for this very reason. Just think before you say stuff like that, you know? Especially if you want folks to trust your opinion.
I got my gtab mostly for watching downloaded videos, web browsing, some gaming. My first rom upgrade was vegan-tab ginger edition. Did not play videos as well as I hoped(choppy). Had some minor issues with sound. I switched to calk/clem ver 5 and videos are smooth and most video players work. I'm not into neflix, but Hulu, Flash, slingplayer, all work. It may not be the best rom, but it works for me.

I'd guess that is because of the lack of HW acceleration in Ginger. Seriously, why is everyone running away from Froyo roms? ::scratches head:: what am I missing?
Meanwhile, does calk/clem support BT keyboards? I have a BT keyboard that is working great on the ginger roms I've tried. A little scared it won't work in Froyo...
@Dishe:
The netflix account I use isn't even mine, it's my stepfathers. He got it a while back, to get videos in the mail. Then he started streaming to his laptop. He gave me his password so that I could get it on my Wii. Since then, about Christmas time, I think I may have watched one complete movie at home. I just have never found their selection of streaming videos to be that great that it was an application that I absolutely needed. I usually download movies from ThePirateBay.org and watch them with my netbook connected to my TV.
So, for Me, Netflix isn't an application that I will justify not having by downplaying it. I didn't have it 7 months ago on anything. I tried it, and really couldn't find anything to like about it. When my stepfather offered my his account, I seriously thought that I would be able to rid myself of the over 300 DVDs that I own, because "I could just stream anything on Netflix." Well, I started searching their library for movies that I own, and pretty much none of them were available. So, I can be 100% sure that not having it on my G-Tablet isn't a justification of not being able ot have it. It's a realization that I hardly ever use it on a device that it runs flawlessly on, so it's not remotely necessary on a device that it might be able to run on.
I downloaded Megaviewer pro, which also streams videos, and it can actually find nearly every movie I search for.
I did take my g-tablet on a mini-vacation last week. I had "kidvideos" (good for cartoons for the little ones) and Megaviewer installed on it. I can honestly say that my son never even asked if he could watch a movie on it. The only time we could even consider it was when there was a network around that I could log into, anyway. So, you're anchored, and the selection is minimal.
MAybe if we had 3G capabilities, it might be worth it. But right now, the only place I can stream videos is at home, where netflix works fine on the 52 inch screen...rather than the 10 inch one.
for your BT question...I don't have one to test, but my BT GPS does work on it.
Edit: Oh, and why is everyone running away from Froyo....because it's old news. The tablet community is all about the latest and the greatest. Why did everyone want Vista when XP worked just fine? It's just a mentality that the newest product must be the best product. I never understood it either. I've been using Froyo since getting my tablet, and never even considered Gingerbread, knowing it's limitations. The basis of my opinion is that our devices came with Froyo, has drivers for Froyo, and works 100% with Froyo...
and yes, I'm still on XP, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Fair enough on the netflix thing. But other people love netflix streaming- myself included. I catch up on old TV shows and randomly pick new movies to watch. Something I forgot to mention is that its nice having it on the Tablet because sometimes there's a movie my wife doesn't care for, so I can watch it on my own anywhere instead of hogging the TV or computer. Its nice to watch it on a tablet from bed or the couch or places a laptop would be awkward to use.

See, I just had this conversation with someone in another thread!
Sometimes newer is better- Froyo brought JIT, voice search, and other great features and performance enhancements. Now it works great, and is exactly what our devices came with! But moving on to an unsupported rom just because its newer is EXACTLY like XP to Vista, IMO!
I love to trick out my machine, but at the end of the day I want it to work the best it possibly can. Vista didn't do that, so I stuck with XP until Windows 7 (which, btw, is a fantastic and worthy upgrade from XP). The same is true of tablets, however without continued support from Viewsonic, or Froyo roms from the community (and l0rd knows I don't have the time to pick up development myself anymore), I feel like certain bugs will never get fixed. Skype 2.0, btw, will apparently work with video chat on Gingerbread enabled devices with cameras (not on G-tablet yet, but with Galaxy working within hours of announcing the new Skype, I think it might soon). Between that and Netflix, I'm really not sure what I'd rather anymore.

Dishe...The XP to Win7 analogy is fitting here. Let's take my tiny little Acer Netbook here. Supposedly, it's not able to run win7, due ot hardware limitations. That's exactly the case with the G-Tablet.
Now, if Acer were to develop a way (drivers and such) that I was able ot run Win7, then I would probably switch. The fact is, my netbook was created to run XP, so, I know that XP is the only OS that will run properly on it.
The G-Tablet, has hardware that is CAPABLE of running Gingerbread and Honeycomb, and I assume, eventually Ice Cream Sandwich (why do these nicknames make me hungry?)
The problem, is that Viewsonic/Nvidea have failed at providing the drivers and such that will make it possible to run these newer Android versions.
Sure, I could attempt to install Win7 on my netbook, but then I'll be *****ing and complaining when things don't work, or won't work. Same as if I continue to lie to myself in thinking that Gingerbread or Honeycomb will work flawlessly within the constraints of the hardware that we are using.
I commend the people that try their hardest to get these things working. They do it for the joy of saying that they did it. They provide something to the users that gives them hope that it will eventually be a reality. I truly believe that it will be, as long as Nvidea cooperates, which they said they would, as long as device providers request the drivers...none have, as of yet. We thought that Notion Ink was, but they are using the pieced together rom that tabletroms developed...essentially failing their own community.

I need some recommendations on which ROM is good for playing video files without lag.
Any/all froyo roms. Go to my website in signature.
Also, this type of thing definitely belongs in Q&A or general.

Works on android > 2.3.4 (Gingerbread). Our camera does not work properly above froyo.
Hang in there. ICS should be ready soon for our device. While the camera is not being worked on yet it sounds like we have the information and it may be possible to get it working once we have a stable ROM released.

I was feeling the same as you and I finally sold mine about two weeks ago. Bought a Xoom refurbished for $350 on Amazon and I have never been happier. Xoom just got ICS and it is amazingly fast. My advice: Make the jump to a serious tablet.
i have a gtab and now a transformer. i found a thread in the transformer forums that gives you all the handbrake settings to make 720p videos for the transformer. they work on the gtab using the stock video app with no lag. the only deviation i did was limit file size to 1.2 gigs. still looks very good. also did tron legacy as 2.5 gig and it plays great. looks good too.
gtab is running frankentab 1.0.9 fyi

Hi guys, a friend has got this tablet. Is there a guide for this to install recovery(cwm) and honeycomb?
I had a look but there so many models on this section but i need the hannspad sn10t13r1653.
Cheers
Normally you just need to boot in APX mode (Volume down + power for 2 second while powering it on) and download the package indicated in the post indicated at the bottom of this post.
Verify the number of partitions by doing:
./nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --getpartitiontable table.txt
Find in the table.txt file the partition number of SOS partition
For example if partition SOS is 11:
./nvflash -r --download 11 part9.img
For example if partition SOS is 9:
./nvflash -r --download 9 part9.img
if you screwed up your hannspad, just follow this thread (same zip file):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15884321&postcount=10
Got this budget tab as I am waiting on quad core cpu tabs and yes there is some guides on how to install honeycomb. Go to wwwdotslatedroiddotcom. I wish we would have a sub forum for the hannspad. Guess hannspree is pissing off the devs as they are refusing to release the kernel. Is it possible to extract the kernel somehow?

hi folks, i'm hoping someone can help.
i'm very interested in getting this tablet but i wanted a few honest views off users.
i'm not worried about Froyo, tbh there isn't a real difference to ginger, but the twin core build intrerests me more thatn the single core tables that are comming out.
have hannspree removed the phone apk's (etc) to improve power and memory management?
i don't play many games so i'm not worries about split second responsiveness but i've heard it can sometimes lag a bit, honestly how does the stock rom perform?
i wondered if anyone had tried go launcher or launcher plus and how the responsiveness compared to stock? screen responsiveness, typing etc?
also i'd be using this for video on the go, i don't watch HD but normal avi/divx, do they play ok?
i'd be very grateful if anyone would be willing to record a short video if the tablet in use so i could get an idea, the marketing vids are always a bit false
i'm been out of cooking for others about a year due to family matters (but still been home building for my HD2) while there are some mods over on slatedroid, theres nothing on XDA. if i get the tab i'll probably start playing with the rom and post a few slimmed down recovery versions. to see what we can start

Hello, is there any ETA on when the Hannspad kernel source will be released?
There was a rumour suggesting you wouldn't release it. But I'm sure that's just a rumour because under the GPL which the open source Android platform is released under there must be a kernel release for legal reasons.

- battery is one of the best among the tablets
i don't play many games so i'm not worries about split second responsiveness but i've heard it can sometimes lag a bit, honestly how does the stock rom perform?
- stock rom is crap, replace it with either one of the honeycomb(those are not finished yet), or Hannstitan from Slatedroid.
i wondered if anyone had tried go launcher or launcher plus and how the responsiveness compared to stock? screen responsiveness, typing etc?
- Responsiveness is fine, no problems with typing, although Zeam launcher looks better on the tab.
also i'd be using this for video on the go, i don't watch HD but normal avi/divx, do they play ok?
- Plays without problem, also HD, just make sure you use hardware accelerated player.
I would say this is the best tablet in budget price! Almost the same as the transformer, and that costs £350!

Thanks for clearing some questions guys, i might considering buying one then.
But i've got one question, this tablet doesn't come with any webcam, right?
Is it really needed or not?
Hi,
A friend of mine has bought one of the Hannspree tablets but can't get the Bluetooth GPS APK to install on it.
He wants to connect the tablet to an external bluetooth GPS and I suggested a bluetooth GPS app that I'd used on a Samsung galaxy 1 because the built in GPS was crap.
Running the APK gives a dialog saying the install was not succesful.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.
Cheers.
i dont think this tab has a GPS unit, though maybe wifi GPS would be the way to go.

I also need to know if it has hdmi out?
If there are any big warnings please advert me now, before i make a misstake..if it all right im getting it =)

I'm using my touchpad daily with the CM7 last released alpha build. I use it for videos, games, web browsing, etc. Android runs smooth and I have no issues at all. If you score a touchpad at the right price its an awesome device. If you want to spend more get a galaxy tab or an ipad. As for making a mistake, no one can either encourage or discourage you from that. Good luck with your decision.
Edit: No HDMI out port.

I've installed it and so far I like it... The sound is choppy and I don't know how to fix it.. However, everything else works great!! I have lots of games like plants vs zombies and it works great!! I also installed dolphin browser and works great!! I have the HTC IME mod keyboard and the landscape looks good and covering the whole screen the horizontal is half screen but works good too.. I like the Android better due to more apps and more things to put..
sent from my HTC EVO 3D using XDA Premium!!
Very few issues here as well.
Daily driver, no problem.
I play Contract Killer...and lack of real buttons (home, menu, back, etc.) sometimes gets you locked in the game...however, ending the task gets you back to where you need to be.
I love WebOS, don't get me wrong, but Android has the apps and games I like to play.

I use both CM7 and WebOS. For Flash video and Netflix I boot into WebOS. I use both WebOS and CM7 for music and CM7 for most games, transcoded video, and web blowsing. Love Dolphin HD on CM7, much better than the default browser on WebOS.
You can't go wrong for the price... the harware is very good.
I don't think Netflix works in webOS, but in CM it works great. I got mine not knowing how much I would use it, my wife likes webOS so it was mostly for her. Turns out I use it alot more than I thought I would. I use it to search the web, music, movies and games instead of my laptop most of the time now. It was well worth the purchase.
While it has some minor quirks, its plenty usable as a daily driver. The biggest issue is that the battery life in sleep mode is terrible compared to webOS. It'll get you through a full day of use with moderate usage, so its not a deal breaker.
battery in sleep makes me barf. I wake up friday morning use it a bit, go ona weekend trip and it's dead on Monday.
Meanwhile I wake up on Friday with webOS, leave for the weekend and come back to see my device at like 77%.
Is this just how Android devices are, or is it because the Touchpad still needs some tweaking? And if by tweaking you mean we can get 10-20% better battery life in idle, that's not much. Power consumption needs to be cut in like 1/5th if not 1/10th its current state in idle.
Keep in mind folks that Gingi isn't even officially released. There are a lot of development being done in the shadows. I think it will all work out in the next few months. The source for ICS is released, which does officially support tablets. I would not mind them moving to ICS and skip HC/Gingi all together.
I use Gingerbread on a daily basis. My TP is on the Touchstone 90% of the time, so I don't see the same battery issues as others.
This is an old tablet and not very capable of doing much. I recently bought a better tablet but I I like this old Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (p4wifi) for reading digital comic books.
I was wondering what would be the best ROM to load on here that has a small memory footprint. I just want to use it for reading comics. I only need internet access to wirelessly access comics on my NAS. I can sideload the APKs of the file manager and comic book reader I use.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
T
Android 7.1.2 Nougat is the best ROM. It is most stable too. I am using it without gapps to keep memory footprint minimal and it has really given a new life to my P7500. Find the ROM here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-10-1/development/rom-android-7-0-nougat-t3471350/
Very cool. I appreciate this suggestion and I am currently downloading the ROM and the other needed files to load this up.
The Last ROM I installed was the AOSP 5.1.1 rom and had to worry about making sure the camera still worked and the audio still worked. Now, I don't need any of that stuff. I just want to use it to read comic books. It's the right size for the job.
Did you strip out anything before you loaded this ROM or is it as debloated as it can be?
I really appreciate your help. This is gonna be great.

This ROM has been great. It was exactly what I needed. It really did bring new life to this old tablet.
Thanks again.

Thank you for the kind words. This ROM is indeed the best. The only limitation we have here is the old, and unsupported Tegra 2 processor.

Will I be able to watch Youtube with this ROM on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (p4wifi)??
I only want to use the tablet to watch youtube videos...
yes
The Tegra 2 is a bit of a limitation but as far as using it to read comic books or ebooks it's great. You can definitely watch YouTube.
I pretty much use mine for reading but I do occasionally use Splashtop Streamer to remote desktop to the PC. I have other devices that can handle more demanding tasks.
I find the small internal storage capacity to be the biggest issue for me. Still a great old tablet if you're expectations aren't too demanding.
