NO more 3g no matter what i do. after 2.3.3 upgrade - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was looking to upgrade my x10 to the actual version of x10. the 2.3.3 version it was not out in my country, so i got the worldwide version (the .ftf file). i flashed it with flashtool. it worked perfectly, but the 3g wont turn on no matter what i do, im with rogers, i choose 3g-rogers. it connects, my data is on, roaming is on, but it just doesnt turn on, doesnt show in the statu/notification bar, that it is on like it did before. so i used the pc companion and put the 2.1 back in, it still has the same problem, i put the latest wolf rom, 2.3, and it dont work, no matter which rom I choose. Please help me, give me any suggestions, i need 3g for my work, etc. thanks!

Check your apn settings, if they are not present then you'll have to enter them manually. Use Google or search the forms here for the proper Rogers apn settings.

Or try the Sony Ericsson tab from the settings menu, you can download your courier's apn settings there.

I had the same problem, flashing to a stock 2.3.3 ROM and then the data connexion wouldn't work. What I did was to install Wolfbreak's TW Custom ROM then immediately applying a custom kernel patch. It worked fine from there.

I don't know if this will help at all but i had the same problem a month ago. what was causing my problem is that my limit of my package was over and i did not have any more credit on my phone (prepaid contract). so 3G would not connect unless i had credits (That's what my carrier told me). so i put credit on my phone but 3G still would not connect. it was kind of "stuck" because my credit was out. so i kept my credit and flashed a new rom (WB's rom). i put the APN manually and my problem was fixed.
So my problem was caused by my credit limitation. once i let my phone without credit 3G would not connect again unless i put credit and reflash the rom again... Crazy huh?
Every case is specific, however i hope it helps you in any way...

You need to set up your wireless apn go to menu/settings/sony ericsson/settings download then wait a few you will see it flash on then go to back button/wireless & networks/mobile networks/network mode/gsm/wcdma preferred (click it)/access point name there should be two, one wireless/one mmsc. if for some reason you have three make sure that the top one (the house icon 3g) is checked or you will be roaming
And always remember to backup your Settings an APNs,and anything else you need to keep.
Although some of these are free it is always the best to get the pro/key of the apps for more functions and to support the Developers.

Is the phone an x10i or x10a? It could be a radio problem, like mine in which I have an x10a but I'm on T-Mobile which only supports EU bands of the x10i.

[help] Can not connect to network

My X10i is Rooted, has Android 2.2 (from Rodeiro) bandversion 2.1.54 and Kernel 2.6.29 Mod version CyanogenMOD 6.1.1-V03
Now I have the problem that i can not connect/register to a network, i can see all the networks but if i want to connect to 1, it just wont happen.
I tried a restore of an old ROM and the problem remains.
What could be the problem ? is my X10 broken ? Coul this be a radio problem ?
Please help, need my phone...
Coop,
Hello!
Is data across mobile network enabled in the phone settings?? Try turning on airplane mode for a minute, then turn it off, brings my network back!!
Best regards,
Chris
That does not seem to help.
I can see all the carriers, but if i want to connect to 1 it wont happen, this message i get :
Registering on Network.
I keep hanging on here, maybe my X10 is broken ?
When did this start?? Any changes to the phone before this happened??
Turn it off and pull the battery for about 5 minutes???

[Q] Sony Ericsson X10 update problems?

I have a X10a on AT&T network. I used the 2.6 flash tool made by Androxyde and Bin4ry to flash the Rogers 2.1.1.A.0.6 yesterday march 26.2011. Everything seems to be working good so far....My question is when i plug the phone in to the wall charger it will say "no sim card in phone" just above the unlock slider. anyone have any ideas why that is showing up now? The other thing that i have noticed is periodically 2 red "x" will appear in the status bar in place of the signal strength bars and in place of the 3g data symbol. oh and instead of showing the 3G on the status bar it has a "H" instead. Has anyone else seen this happen? thanks
Don't know if you should be using Rogers branded firmware on AT&T network. It probably has something to do with that. It's looking for a Rogers sim card. Try flashing generic instead.
The H is better than 3G. It's more like 3.5g. You know the new 4G network being advertised HSPA.
Ok thanks for the info. I was considering flashing the 2.1 Generic but wanted to get some advice since i am what you would call a noobie.lol I pretty much did a bunch of reading and "winged it" through the flash process praying i didn't destroy my phone.
Yes, use the x10a global generic. I don't know if the newest update is available yet, but in many people's opinion 2.1.A.0.435 is better for AT&T. The new 0.16 update baseband is causing battery drain and connection problems. With global generic you will most likely get the official 2.3.3 Gingerbread update Sony just promised in a few months first.
Edit: you seem to have it down, but there is a new version of flash tool 0.2.9 that has some new features. You can root, enable JIT, install xRecovery, and remove Sony bloatware that is slowing down your phone. That may sound Greek right now, but they are the next natural things you will want to do. Check your private messages for a detailed guide with links to the downloads. It may be of some help.
Once again JBM I really appreciate your guidance with this. I have been reading alot and think i'm going to go ahead and reflash with 2.1 global generic as you said. My Baseband version is 2.1.55 and Kernel is 2.6.29 Do these need to be flashed?
The one ftf file is all you need, 2.1.A.0.435. It will probably change your baseband to 0.54, which is the one you want for AT&T.
Really, don't over think this. This is the same firmware you would have gotten from SE if you bought your X10 from a non-AT&T store. Generic in Android terms is a good thing. It means no restrictions or extra bloatware from AT&T. No need to pay for navigation and stuff like that.
Let me know how it goes.
Again you were right my baseband changed to 2.1.54 and everything is working perfect. the red x that was appearing in the status bar in place of the H and the signal strength bars is not happening and the message "no sim card in phone" has not shown up either. I think i'm going to attempt to root and add Xrecovery do i can then speed things up with JIT. I have been on my Sony Vaio all day.

Great! To use the flash tool to root, optimise(JIT) and install xRecovery, you need to set up phone first. Hit menu button / Settings / Applications and check "unknown sources". Then hit the "development" tab below and check "usb debugging". Then just turn flash tool on, and plug your phone into usb cable while the phone is still on. Do NOT mount usb connected. Then go across the tabs on the flash tool in order from left to right, root, root permissions, optimise, xrecovery. Enjoy.
XRecovery not installed

JBM, I did exactly as you said going left to right on flash tool. i did root and root permissions then optimize, the phone did a automatic reboot after Optimize finished then I went on to XRecovery. Flashtool says that "Xrecovery successfully installed". Now on Superuser there is a app called "unkown" on the apps allow screen. I do not have the Xrecovery app anywhere on my X10 app list. So I don't know what isn't right on my X10 or in the flash tool program. So I tried again installing Xrecovery again but got the same massage on flash tool and unknown in superuser. I did not do the "clean" step or the APK Installer step. I don't know enough to mess with either of those. there wasn't any indication on the phone that JIT was working either. flash tool showed it as successful also. do you know what i should try. Thanks again

Ok, xrecovery doesn't show up as an app. What you have to do to enter xRecovery is reboot your phone, and when Sony Ericsson in white letters comes up press the power button a few times or the back button a bunch of times, and the xRecovery menu will appear. It takes a bit of getting used to. If the SE circular logo appears you missed it, and you have to reboot again.
There is a new way I will help you install that allows you to enter xRecovery from the home screen using the app gscript, but you have to do it the reboot way at first.
JIT isn't something you can see either. Well scrolling the app tray should be faster and smoother than ever. Search market and install "Quadrant" and "Linpack". They will allow you to run benchmark tests. Without JIT you should get around 500 quadrant and 8 linpack. With JIT enabled you should get 800+ quadrant and 30+ linpack.
Also, to truly optimize and increase performance like you would not believe (i.e. improve your benchmark scores, battery life, available RAM, speed, responsiveness) and get rid of any lag you should uninstall any preinstalled apps you don't use. Use titanium backup from the market to uninstall system apps without needing flash tool. However, system apps cannot be restored like user apps. You have to reinstall them. Actually, check your private messages in a few minutes. I will send you the pro version of Titanium Backup. With the pro version you can "freeze" system apps, so you don't have to uninstall them if you would rather not. Also, if you freeze an app and your phone works fine you know that it is safe to uninstall.
There are some that you shouldn't remove, but here's a list of safe ones off the top of my head. Of course, if you use them keep them. There are also a few threads about this.
Timescape(all) and Face Recognition (highly recommend uninstalling these two. You won't believe the difference)
SE Backup and Restore (use Titanium Backup I am sending you)
Chinese and Korean keyboard
PC Companion
SE Sync
Play Now
Pilot
JBM I was able to enter Xrecovery with the back button. my wifi was dropping every few minutes so I cleared my Dalvik cache and that seems to have fixed it. everything is running perfect. I uninstalled acouple apps & the 2 keyboards and now my best Quadrant score is 819 up from 741 and Linpack is 34.556. I can tell now that it is running faster and more responsive.
Cool. I am incorporating a lot of what I am helping you with into an AT&T specific guide for everything you've already done, and a whole bunch more if you are up for it. I am doing it anyway, but I figure I will see how my guides work for you as I add them to the thread. There is some stuff on there already that I haven't shared with you yet, like Voice Search. Anyway, check it out, and your pm. I just sent you a couple links.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012380
Next thing to do is upgrade xRecovery to FreeXperiaRecovery, so you don't have to reboot to get into xrecovery. You can enter from home screen. Keep an eye out for it...

[Q] Baseband understanding

My basic understanding is that the baseband is like the firmware that makes the radio in your phone work (calls, mobile internet, wifi etc) right? But that is where my knowledge ends.
Just recently the mobile internet on my streak stopped working. The indicator for mobile internet still shows in the notification bar but any attempts to reach a web site or other connection just times out and fails. Wifi still works perfectly. It's not an issue with the carrier as I have never had to set anything up it has just worked out of the box each time I have updated anything. In any case for info my network is 3uk.
Now I have dropped this phone a few times, admittedly this could be what has caused the damage. On the other hand something might have become corrupted.
So assuming something might have got corrupted I'm thinking it could be the baseband but as I don't know much about them I'm not sure.
I have used QDL tool many times and had various versions of streakdroid on my streak. I have just about mastered the recover/restore/install procedure however in my ignorance you might say I have not learned much about basebands. I always try to learn the things I need as I go along and till now have not had to worry.
Here's the dumb questions I need answers to:
Do basebands come with each build of android? I mean rom downloads either official or streakdroid. I got the impression they did but not sure. I normally use streakdroid since v1.5.1
If they don't come with the roms where can I download an up to date baseband to see if it will fix my problem?
So far I have used QDL tool using the guide on streakdroid. Following that I install streakmod then use that to install streakdroid 1.9.0
Should I try installing any other rom?
Any other suggestions or tips of how I could get my mobile internet working?
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Have you looked at your APN settings?
Select Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names
(might not be the exact name of the menus) but i know its under Wireless & Networks. Might need to reset the APN to default or search and reselect it.
Hi Thanks for the reply.
Yes I have tried to do the search to reselect it but it just searches for a long time as if its hung. Reset to default didn't change anything. (3 three.co.uk stayed putt)
Also I have completely reset my phone to factory default and back to latest streakdroid a few times. In the past I've not had to touch APN it just works after installing whatever rom.
I think I've already tried the most obvious things.
Would flashing the latest baseband help? Assuming it doesn't already come with the latest streakdroid. If it does then its looking like I am screwed unless there is anything else I could look at??
HELP!
Have you tried your USIM in another phone. 3 may have blocked your Internet access as you are using a non-3 phone.
What does your about screen say for your baseband version and stuff?
Baseband version
GAUSB1A130500-EU
Regarding "non-3 phone" I hope thats not the case. I've never had an actual "3 phone" I always use unlocked phone's. Prior to this one an omnia and prior to that a k850i neither of which are 3 phones. I will try the sim in another phone see what happens now. Let you know.
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO UPDATE TO THE BELOW BASEBAND FOR 1.5.1+
Baseband File Download:
Primary Download Site: http://downloads.streakdroid.com/djsteve/amss.mbn
Mirror 1: http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/amss.mbn
I guess u missed this part when flashing 1.9. The recommended baseband for 1.9 is 318.
Delltech you are right I did overlook that. However going back to your last point that 3 may have blocked my internet access. I think your right!! I just tried my sim in another phone and that can't connect to the internet.
Anything I can do if they have blocked my internet??
Call them and speak to tech support, they've got a bunch of cool techies who'll sort it out right away.
Will do.... Thanks!

[Q] Data access not working

I have searched using the terms im able to figure out to use as searchs but have come up empty with answers.
Since 2.3.3 stock update i haven´t been able to access the internet, logging on to fb,gmailaccount receive/send MMS, I just get no network connection, failed to download APN setting for my phone. I have tried sending APN setting from my operator to my phone still no success. I have tried manually entering the APN settings i found for 3 Sweden. Still not working.

Been like this since 2.3.3 update and i have looked but haven´t been able to find answer. I have also tried to repair/reinstall 2.3.3 x number of times.
X10i
andr 2.3.3
baseband 2.1.71
3 Sweden
So if anyone has some tips or tricks that would able me to fix this problem. I would be very greatful.
Thx
edit: sms and phone calls work fine.
Have the same problem here in America. No answers on my thread either...
Hello
This happened to me, if you go into xrecovery and factory reset your problem will go but before you do this sync your contacts so you don't lose them and back up your data with titanium backup
already did factory reset and almost all wipes but no data still.. someone?
I made a post about this a few weeks ago and got no replies either.
I am using the latest EWJET ROM from Eric, with an unlocked bootloader and i have two questions,
1) Is it possible i have physically damaged the phone to cause this problem? (I'm guessing it cant be the rom's fault if others have same problem with standard Gingerbread OS?)
2) If i do a factory reset, will i have to go back through the process of re-installing the custom rom and unlocking the bootloader?
Here's hoping i get some reply this time...
Scotspaul674, installing custom ROM via xRecovery or CWM, and flashing via FlashTool does not influence the status of the bootloader.
After full wipe you mast reinstall custom ROM. Do not reboot, or you will lose access to xRecovery.
i solved the problem like this, i went to the data settings and i put wcdma(prefered)/gsm as my default setting, then chose the correct acces point and chose the right network operator, try doing that maybe this will solve it
Ok, so I managed to get mine working today, I really didnt fancy doing a factory reset so I tried downloading settings via settings/Sony Ericsson, and it worked
Can't believe I didn't try this before.....
Good luck to the rest of you..

It's not from the SE site, just press menu on your phone and select settings, this will bring a menu up and at the top of the next page is a Sony Ericsson option. Click this then the only option shown (I think) will be download settings, select this and hopefully you'll be sorted.
Good luck
had the same problem after updating my xperia x10 to 2.3, so what I did was go to settings, wireless & network, mobile network and click data enabled. not sure what I did but where the incoming and outgoing arrows are there is a H above them now instead of 3G. but it seams to work ok.

[Help] XWLPD] internet issues?

Hello,
Right to start my story.
I updated my phone through KIES up to the latest firmware.
Baseband - XXLPW
kernel : XWLPD
Android : 4.0.3
Worked fine. Figured I wanted root back. Flashed CF-root XX-NEE-LPD v.5.5 Kernel onto it from chainfires topic. Everything seemed to work fine except mobile internet. Wifi works fine, but it wont for the love of it, connect to mobile internet. The icon is just not there and everything says its not connected when Wifi is turned off.
So i flashed the Stock Kernel back to it from the Stock kernel / firmware thread.
At this point it still won't connect to Mobile Internet. However Wifi works fine. Which is great and all, but I really would like to use the internet in non wifi able areas. Like work.
So I flashed the complete XEN Stock package (mine is unbranded) for the netherlands. and Still no Mobile internet.
I added the access points for Rabo Mobiel each time with every setting from there website. But it wont connect. Data transfer mode is turned on so that is not the issue.
What could be causing this issue? and How do I fix it?

Try flashing just the modem again or flash another modem.
I think I have isolated the issue. I went and took a gamble and flashed an old official Gingerbread Firmware I still had stored away on the pc.
When I went back in to add my phone providers internet settings etc, it had 3 options and connection type. Internet, Internet+MMS and just MMS. I noticed my ICS earlier did not have those options and just had a blank space where one could type.
So No I am going to upgrade back to ICS using Kies Once again, if it is still a blank space one can fill in that clearly its an issue with the XEN Samsung ICS firmware. In that case ill just mod CM9 on it and see if I can get it to work in that. If not...back to gingerbread I go
Well I found out how to fix it -.-
Appearently with ICS comes a new APN setting in which the type of accespoint is no longer Just Internet, MMS or a Internet + MMS.
To get it to connect to the internet one has to type in default instead.
Oh well. This can be locked.
