Hi Guys,
I making a last attempt to get an old X10 working before I strip it for parts. If anybody has any new ideas, I'll give them a try otherwise I'm going to dismantle it to use the case and screen to pretty up my working X10 (dents and scratches).
History:
About a year ago, it started acting up and overheating on occasion and even at times it wouldn't charge.
After a couple weeks of this, one day it started freezing up on me. After I powered down it wouldn't restart. Dealing with tech support I tried using PC Companion and SEUS to try and repair the phone but flashing would always abort.
I've tried various versions of Flashtool and SEUS as they have been released and still haven't been able to get the phone to boot. PC Companion and SEUS always error out when trying to flash and Flashtool even though it completes will give a yellow triangle with exclamation point in it.
The one exceptions is when I flashed the newest X10a firmware with flashtool but unchecked the wipe userdata box. When I do this the phone will actually boot past the Sony Ericsson screen and perform the boot animation but... This is where it get's stuck and just loops the boot animation over every couple of minutes.
The only other piece of information that I can provide is that even though Flashtool will report a successful flash the complete firmware package including userdata, I believe that userdata is failing because of a timeout. Flashtool will sit on flashing userdata for about 5 minutes before completing.
after you flash the new x10 firmware you need to flash the new kernel and radio too!
that should stop the boot loop and maybe get it running again
you can find the radio and kernel ftf in the dev forum

When you flash the full ftf package with flashtool, the baseband (radio) and kernel are included. But..... Just in case I did try to flash the .71 package but it didn't make any difference.

did you try a seus when you got to the bootloop?
sounds like a probable motherboard issue

Yep, SEUS just fails to complete flashing the phone, I've just about given up on it. Last thing I'm going to try tonight is reseating all the modules inside it. Who knows, Maybe I'll do a tear down post while I'm at it. At the very least I'll have a collection of spare parts for my working X10
x10 runs extremely hot.

I'll try to reassemble it and if it goes OK, I'll go ahead and replace the display/touch panel on my working X10 with this one.

Ok, transplant worked. I now have the guts from my working x10 inside the undented and non scratched case of the one with the bad main board.
It's almost like having a new phone again.

Nice tip but the x10 Mini has no "loose" battery.
if this is a "bootloop" you need to use SEUS and redo the whole thing with root and reainstall everything inc. custom ROM.
What you could do with the battery is:
Take back cover off, there is a small rubbery "plug" pry that away from the phone.
Beneath that rubber you can see a white electrical socket.
That socket is connecting the battery to the phone.
That COULD dp the trick. On occassions..
Yeah when I posted it I didn't notice he meant mini, was my bad, flashing with seus is what I also mentioned so can forget pulling the battery part

You can always pres the home and power buttons at the same time, it will do a hard reboot. Pressing the back-button several times when the kernel logo shows up should get you back into xrecovery.
If you need flashmode, press home and power and as soon as the screen goes off (completely black) press the back-button with the usb-cable already attached to your computer and your phone.
Hey guys
has anyone tried this method?

Hold down volume up and power but window not found apn device. This way not for atrix.

I will give this a shot, although I am coming up with error windows not even seeing the device as being plugged in.
Windows WILL see it while in SDK/fastboot mode?

This does not work for a "bricked" Atrix. If the Atrix is "bricked" then USB will not recognize it. That has been my conundrum since the beginning. My Atrix is bricked because I tried to go back to Froyo from Gingerbread. Apparently there is no recovering from that.

send to motorola "US"?
cheers
That looks like a hard brick! Anyone please correct me if I am wrong, but there is no way of fixing that yourself. Sending to moto us is your best option if you want it fixed
(There is some chatter about a factory cable, but I would suggest a more experienced persion to also give their opinion before you do anything)

What you don't do is create another thread basically asking the same thing in another forum. Merging this thread with the one in Q/A. I feel sorry for your brick, so no infraction given, as I understand one can get desperate when dealing with a hard brick, however, it is what it is and nothing can get done....
Thanks guys, I did hard rest but the phone not showing on windows pc.
maybe the factory cable be an option but I heard we need to have sbf files!?
and also, I'm still under warranty can I ship the phone from Aus to US to get it fixed? how??
Thanks again
Hi Matthew
Seeing u as a same local. Have u think of going up to 2.3.4?
Maybe by flashing using sbf files? Then....
Cos I'm thinking of getting a atrix.
Bored by the gs2.
i can get to the nvflash recovery mode tho, but what that can do?

You'll need a factory cable to flash, however, the files to flash have not been made available so it's not very helpful now

So I need to wait?
how about this :
briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-system-boot-file-sbf-leaked
Nah. sbf files are for RSD, nvflash (nVidia flash) require a different file and app to flash
argh...
So we just have to wait....
I've heard about some other hardwares that can be plugged into the bricked device and make it hard reset/factory reset?any ideas?
I have the same problem here... :S

Hy everybody,
I can flash my X10 mini pro (U20i) with the sonyericsson tool and with the flasher.
I installed some firmwares but I get the same all the time.
The phone starts up to the start screen.
There I have to move the slider on the screen to unlock the phone.
But I cannot move it with the touchscreen.
And it seems the phone reboots after a while automatically.
What do I have to do to make it work?
I guess it can't be that all firmwares have the same problem.
And I read out the exact model of the phone with another tool. So I guess I used the right firmwares.

If you used the right firmwares depends on where you got them from
If you downloaded them from the x10mini dev section, they won't work, because the x10mini has a different touchscreen
So tell us which links you used, and maybe we can point you in the right direction
I tried this one e.g.:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125587
Because its a combination of flasher and firmware.
But it behaves like all others I used.

You can get it back on original firmware using SEUS or PC Companion?
When I flash it with the rom the original software (pc companion in repair mode) tells me it does not work either.
I would like to go back to 1.6 the telefone came with.
but it seems I can only get the update to 2.1.
And I tried with some xperia models like Xperia X10 mini pro and Xperia X10 mini.

Yes, that looks like the u20i, so that can't be the problem.

if you can try getting a logcat during boot - we can see if something isn't loading properly then
X10man
I did not check what version was installed when I reflashed it.
I thought it will work exactely the same way as with my other phone.
But I guess it was never changed so 1.6 should have been installed.
How would I get a rootcat while booting?
How could I get the logs from a phone that does not start?
Is there a tool where I can interact with the phone?
Like a remote shell?
Try this and click thx button: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838242 ,,,,,,,check the 2nd post

ADB is android's debugging tool on the pc.
If you want a log of what happens when the phone starts use: adb logcat > log.txt with your phone connected via the usb-cable.
The log.txt will contain just about everything that happens after the kernel is loaded.
If your phone is stuck before the ROM gets loaded, try to redownload and reflash the kernel.
Ok I guys, this is the full story.
-I was on ICS with the latest update,so i use Flashtool to coming back on Gingerbread
-I used Unlock to Root to Root my phone
-I use this method to put local prop file-->Update on ICS-->Complete Root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688980)
-Ok,now now starting problems.
-I tried the traditional method to put CWM Recovery(it was Command file to execute, but nothing happens)
-So in one thread I discovered X-parts App(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pvy.CWMinstaler&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5wdnkuQ1dNaW5zdGFsZXIiXQ..) and put CWM Recovery on my phone.
-Ok so I flashed Serenity 2.0 Rom and all Works fine, but I discovered that when I flash a Rom,CWM Recovery is gone!
-I reinstalled it and try to flash again Serenity 2.0 to change some things with Aroma Installer, like the Launcher, ect.
-But the phone goes on bootloop.
-So I flash Gingerbread,Root,ICS,Root,Recovery and put the Rom another one time, but it goes in bootloop.
So I flash Gingerbread and I see that battery was at 15% while previously was on 100% and I discovered that when i put the charger the phone is going to be very hot and I see that the phone was on 11%!!!(In settings I see that the phone says that is in charge)
So I remove the battery and put on a external charger to charge it at 100%,so I tried to update on ICS but the phone shutdown.
Now I can't use the phone, because is going to be hot and when I put the charger it discharges.
Any solution?Buy another battery?Send the Phone on Sony assistance/Sony support?
But they will repair a phone with this scratch?

If you buy a new battery, this could solve the problem, but sony maybe would give you a new one for free
It could be hardware related, too, because if it goes hot that's not good!

Hey bro, what do you exactly want? Your image is not appearing, try re-uploading it. And if you are asking how to unbrick the phone, then just flash a stock ROM using the flashtool by connecting the phone in fastboot mode. Or if you are asking how to install the update, then you will have to download the FTF and flash it using flashtool. But then you will loose root access. No worries, root it again using the root toolkit bu DoomLord, it's available in the development section. Or if you mean to say something else, feel free to reply.

You are mistaken. The update is of huge 650MB. But I upgraded to it from ICS. So maybe if you are on JB you will find this a short update.
The update have minor bug fixes and the phone is less laggy now. The dialer scroll issue is gone. But there's a problem with the camera app now. Sometimes green and black lines come on to the screen while clicking the photo. Although they don't appear on the photo. I am facing GPS and network issues also. But they are not being experienced by everyone. Feel free to update because you can always flash the old ROM.
