CM7 update from prebeta4 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an Atrix, I have Prebeta4 install working great. I downloaded beta.zip placed in root of /sdcard reboot into recovery, install from zip I get an error "Can't open /sdcard/beta.zip"(bad). Installation Aborted
I also noticed something wired after I installed prebeta4. I now have "/mnt/emmc/" this is actually my sdcard. Im a bit confused as to why I get the failed install. When i place beta.zip in /mnt/emmc then reboot into recovery I dont see the beta.zip file.
I have tried to wipe data/cache and Dalvik no success.
Where did i go wrong? thanks

In Cyanogenmod setting -> Applications u must have checked "Use Internal Storage".
Unchecked it and reboot. U should be just fine.

There is an already dedicated CM7 thread. U should try asking there first because it helps in keeping the information consolidated and clean.

You need to flash Clockwork recovery 3.0.0.5 thats available in this forum. it will wipe your system properly. If it dont work( but it will) you have to go the fastboot way.
installed 3.0.0.5 but still no go.
Fastboot..does this involve using adb?
How does it work?
while in 3.0.0.5 i try to whipe i get the following:
Data whipe complete.
e: cant mount /cache/recovery/log
e: cant open /cache/recovery/log
e: cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
e: cant open /cache/recovery/last_log

never mind that it wipes anyhow. Go to mounts and storage and format system, data, cache and then you go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache.
Thans for the quick reply and the effort.
Whiped dalvink but when installing update.zip it still says:
Installing update....
Installation aborted.

tried both.
When i try to install the rom it will give the error within a second..like it is not even trying. I checked the sd-card and the update.zip is there.
It seems like recovery isnt even trying to open it.
Tried it with and without signature check. still no go!
ill give it one more try with the stock rom.... maybe i had a bad download.
nope..still no go.
when i verify signature...it says signature verification failed.

Yes something stinks thaats for sure. I had damaged memory on my folio but eeven theen it started the install. I would download again andrenaame the file from update zip to whatever.zip and insstall from sd card. Or else you will need a functioning Adb setup to use fastboot. Do you have that?
I have to ask the obvious, the downloaded file you have, did you extract it? Just sso you havent put it straight to sd-card. I have done that sometimes then remembered that FolioMod zip has to be extracted and there is the flashable zip.
i will setup adb tomorrow. have to go to work now though.
Thank you for you time and efford...
Is there a way to uninstall clockwork and use the standard recovery instead?
OMG.... i feel like such an idiot right now....hahahaha
I am so used to flashing whatever zip on my htc desire that i didnt think of that.
Its flashing right now.
Thank you for refreshing my memory and Sorry for wasting your time.

Flash CyanogenMod.
Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.

Sounds like you may have a bad download of the Google Apps. Try using this link:
http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
Try downloading straight to your phone and then flash from ClockworkMod.

I think you are confused on how to install the Google apps properly.
At step 4, you should choose install zip from SD card, then select the Cyanogenmod zip file and let it install it. Once it has finished, you should then choose install zip from SD card again and then choose the gapps zip file and let it install that. You should reboot the phone only after installing both zip files, one after the other.
You can also save yourself a lot of potential headaches by formatting the system partition before installing. You also didn't mention the dalvik cache but I'm assuming you did that as well. If it's still unclear, here's the whole process you should be following for a clean install:
1) Boot into Clockworkmod
2) Wipe data/factory reset
3) Wipe cache partition
4) Advanced > Wipe dalvik cache
5) Partitions menu > format system
6) Install zip from sdcard, select Cyanogenmod zip file
7) Install zip from sdcard, select gapps zip file
8) Reboot

Thanks for your direction. I have the Cyanogenmod running stably and I installed the Google Apps thereafter. Since I installed the Google Apps, my phone has been restarting after, say, 3 minutes of startup. Can you help me please.

Make sure you got the correct version of gapps for cm7. It should read something like: gapps-gb-20110503.zip.

GAPPS - "Can't open" (bad)

Hey all, just downloaded the gapps zip from goo-inside.me.
The filename is "gapps_ics_4.0.3_v11.zip", however when I try to install the zip from CMRecovery, I keep getting
E: Can't open /sdcard/gapps_ics_4.0.3_v11.zip" (bad)
Installation aborted.
I also tried a file I found on there named "gapps-ics-20120201-signed.zip", and that returns the SAME error.
I did a full cache wipe, factory reset, dalvik wipe, then installed CM9 0.6, and even tried "Fix Permissions".
NOTHING seems to be resolving this. I tried to search around for people with this problem with either of these two zip files, but have found nothing regarding these two specific zip files returning this error.
I tried downloading a fresh copy of the files, removing/recopying the file...nothing is helping.
I'm sure the fix is simple and elegant, but I'd love some help on this as I feel like a moron not being able to figure this out
Thanks all, and CHEERS!
Hmm, that's weird.
Try downloading from different site. You could also try v8, if it installs, it will update and you'll be current.
Just some ideas. Hope something works. Good luck.
I had the same problem. I was able to flash only after copying Gapps to the TP via clockworkmod. Unmounting, rebooting, then flashing. Good luck!
I can't install gapps which I downloaded from above mentioned site hope a solution if any of you solved it :?

If you're installing a rom, use this link http://goo.im/gapps to choose the appropriate gapps. Copy it to the root of your sd card, along with the rom file. Wipe cache, format system and wipe dalvik cache. Then flash the rom, then the Gapps. Reboot. It should work. If you just want to install gapps, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache, flash the Gapps file then reboot.
Good luck. Make sure that you use the Gapps corresponding to the OS you're using.

My st15i cannot flash rom using clockworkmod

My phone always fail when trying to flash new rom such as cyanogenmod 7 using cwm ..
My step is:
1 copy zip file that contain system file and boot.img in external sd card
2 turn off the phone and boot into cwm recovery
3 I choose install from zip
And when trying to open the package it says error and installation aborted
How can I fix this problem?

Make sure any version of Android 2.3 is installed on your phone.
Install the kernel via fastboot(check my tutorial or read forum, it's been discussed a lot here already).
Then enter recovery and install the zip file.
Make sure to make factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache(under Advanced).
Do NOT wipe /system.
If still the same, post the error code here.

[Q] Updating Question

Hello everyone, I have a quick question. when I turn on my Nook, it says that there is an updated for my gapps and an update for my Rom...I'd really like to update them just so I have the newest version but it doesn't seem to be working. It downloads them, then when I go to launch them it resets the Nook. It goes to a screen with several options (I'm sure you know what I'm talking about) but when I try to install the latest ROM the folder is empty. Am I doing something wrong? Is there an easier way to get it updated? Thanks in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated.
What are you using to download update? Are you using ROM manager or goo,PC?

I'm using Goo on my tablet to download the updates, then when it resets to actually install it, I think it's running the ROM manager.
boot in to recovery

IF your having a hard time with goo move the rom.zip and the gapps to the root of your sdcard . reboot into recovery and follow the rom instructions wipe whatever it tells you to (read first before wiping) then pick zip from sdcard first rom install then do it again with the gapps zip after that reboot you should be updated. Good luck!
OK, this is what happens. At the top of my screen it says there's an update for my gapps and rom. I download them. When I click on them from the top pull down menu, it starts the GOO manager. It says "select zip(s) to flash and whatever I have there to be updated. There's 2 options on the bottom on the screen that say "add zip from another location" or "order & flash selected". If I choose order and flash selected, at the bottom of the screen it says "wipe options" 1.wipe cache/dalvik chace partition 2.create back up (yes I have a back up program installed) and 3.wipe data (factory reset). then it says "flash". I hit flash and it wants me to confirm it.so I hit yes and my tablet reboots to "team win recovery project". If i go into install it takes me to a /emmc folder but there's nothing in there. That's when I gave up and came here...sorry if this is too much information, I just want to explain this the best way I can so I can get the tablet updated. Thanks again!

Thanks, I'll give that a try and see if it works for me. Am I supposed to wipe the card? That's the part I'm confused about the most is are the wiping options. Thanks again for the help.

The way you suggested doing it works (moving them to the root of the SD card), the only problem is, the GAPPs it wants me to use as an update isn't compatible with my version apparently so I had to reinstall the previous version. The ROM it wants me to update to is cm_acclaim_10.2.0-RCO_13OCT2013_HD_SDC.zip and I can't find it on the internet anywhere to download it. Any suggestions? Thanks again!
Edit: OK, I got it all figured out and updated. Thanks for the help!
