So let's see here, in the last week Sprint: - HTC EVO 3D

* Doubled their ETF to $350, and the activation fee to $36; removed activation fee promos.
* Cut the trail period in half to 14 days (from 30).
* Canned annual phone upgrades.
* Killed off the Sprint Premiere Rewards program.
Next up is no more discounts on family plans (already cut from all lines to the first two), and data throttling.
And they're basically scrapping Wi-Max to start building out their LTE network...2 years behind everyone else.
They just went from okay-for-the-price, to worse than AT&T/Verizon within a week. I've had it with 25k-150k 3G speeds and shi*ty ass 4G that's the same fing speed as AT&T's 3G, and that's if I'm within eye sight of the tower.

Unfortunately, it appears to me like they are cutting costs for the purpose of making themselves more attractive to potential buyers.

i went to at&t and can't be happier speeds are great an so is the call quality . and my plans saves me 60 a month
2 gig cap sure but im ok with that

Possibly. They need to stop sponsoring every event in sight and fix their network.
While driving home from Lake Tahoe, though NV this Summer, I drove by some raceway outside of Carson City 50 miles with Sprint signs plastered all over it...do you think I even had service there? No.

its all the iphone 5 fault lol

I came to Sprint last year for the Evo 4G and the fact they had a lot of benefits...the same benefits they seem to be scrapping now.
I'll wait a few months to see how things pan out, but I think they really to stop getting rid of the good things that seperate them from AT&T and Verizon, especially being that the data service is becoming inconsistant.

Well, yeah, it is, but that's what I'm getting this next time around...but I'm to the point where I'm willing to pay $40 more a month for data speeds that are actually usable, so I might as well switch to ATT or VZ, since Sprint no longer offers any incentives to stick around.

Strange I switched to Sprint 2 months ago and my activation fee was 36 dollars, every other company always waived it because I'm in the military. I find it strange because you're telling me it changed in the past week, did I just get shafted?
Edit: I didn't mind paying activation fee seeing as how they saved me about 70 dollars on my plan.

Strange; I think that actually increased about 2 weeks ago, but it used to only be $14 or $21...I forget. They'll usually take it off if you call in, or att/vz do.

I agree that all the changes suck really bad for us. I don't understand why wireless carriers discourage users from upgrading their cell phones every year If cell phone manufacturers are going to be making new, top-of-the-line phones every 6 months, then what purpose does it serve to restrict a customer from upgrading? In regards to your comment about wimax being scrapped, I live in Arizona, where there is practically no 4G service in major cities, including Phoenix (6 towers total). I have complained almost non-stop to Sprint about their lack of 4G coverage in Arizona, and to my shock they are actually turning on more towers in the Phoenix area. At the start of 2011 there were only 2 towers in Phoenix. So, although the wimax rollout has slowed down significantly, Sprint and Clear are still turning on 4G wimax in markets that desperately need it.

How many forums are you going to repost this in? Just post it on sprints forums ffs

well every good thing as we all know must come to an end at some point. Although im not dead set on changing carriers just because of this, i will see how things pan out with the 1x and 3g upgrades and how the iphone affects data bandwidth availability. Yes most r speculating that it will kill the network but only time will truly tell. As for wimax, most of the early promoters of 4g expected that lte was gonna be dominant in the end and good for sprint that it's basically just a base station software update. Yea sucks for wimax phone owners but hey it is wat it is... in my opinion, i don't expect any companies that i pay for a service to give me anything above and beyond what im actually paying for which is just the service. If they do that's an attractive bonus but i expect that it will prolly cease to exist one day. Sprint doesn't have to give us unlimited data but they choose to at the moment to attract more subscribers. However if that prospect becomes to costly at the demise of their network from overloads then they will remove that option plain and simple. Business is business at the end of the day and money talks.

Its cute that you think data throttling is next up when its already happening. hurrdurrr

I can assure you it's not. My Speeds have been going up constantly (see my sig) & I chew through data.
Also the one of the 2 largest points behind the shifts is to "keep" it that way.

Sprint and Questions on Data Capping answered

So, Dan Hesse, CEO of Sprint was asked some pretty upfront questions about Data caps and it's competitors who all seem to be using tiered data plans now.
his full answer here at Engadget. http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/19/dan-hesse-sprints-not-following-virgins-tiered-data-movement/
This gist: As of right now, the fact that they are testing Data Caps on Virgin (uses Sprint towers) is in no way a sign that it will come to Sprint.
He does go on to state that going to a tiered system may be needed at some point in the future. (couple years out? said by Engadget.)
What are your thoughts? I love unlimited data. I doubt I use over 2GB right now, but with Netflix budding and Google Music about to open up to the masses, and Spotify reaching the states. who the hell knows anymore.
It doesnt really make a difference to me,im on wifi 90% of the time.
Could care less my signal sucks so bad I use wifi 99% of the time . Don't play around at work or driving and already got gps

If they do go to tiered data I'm going to Verizon....
They have better signal in my area and with a price increase (if they do data packages) ill be paying close to 200 a month for 2 unlimited lines so why not just go to a "better/stable" service provider if I will be paying the same ammount...
Verizon is expensive and sucks I know but i am not betting on anyone else to put a 4g/LTE in my town other than them :/
3D > iClone
It seems like a foregone conclusion.
The pipe into my home should never have an artificial limit put on how much I download or upload. I should pay for throughput. The cap being imposed by how much I could theoretically download in a month at my selected rate maxed out 24/7. It is artificial scarcity. If I'm already subject to the ebb and flow of the network why the hell should I also have a cap imposed? Sure, that might smooth it out a little bit for a little while...but they will continue to add more subscribers than their infrastructure can support...and that's my fault? Our tax dollars went to help them build out that network that they are now trying to rape us for, they DO in fact owe us a little something. Stop overselling your networks and imposing artificial caps on a resource that isn't subject to scarcity, especially when my speeds are at the whim of the condition of the network at any given moment.
Wireless, however, is a slightly different beast. Without a gigantic technological leap we have a ceiling that dictates how many people may be connected in any given area at any given speed at an given moment. I do think caps on wireless are bound to happen...however our requirements will also increase every year. It will be like inflation, you'll always get just a little less data than you'll want but that will increase every year and be, for the most part, manageable. So long as the dollar-to-data ratio stays relative in check I'm fine with that. Right now a 5gb limit is a tad tight for $80 a month....so I'm glad it is "unlimited"...but next year I'd better be getting 10gb a month for that same $80 (probably $90 inflation adjusted the way the dollar is headed, hopefully no more).
2gb cap? Sure, but my entire plan (unlimited minutes and all) had better cost me $49...
...this ATTmobile merger is bad bad baaaaad news guys. The less competition there is the worse this will get. Root for Sprint, support Sprint and pray to god that Verizon doesn't acquire Sprint....Pray to Google that Google does...

I've been with Sprint for such a long time, it's nice to see them stepping up their game these last couple of years. Unfortunately, if they go to a tiered data plan, it would cost me the same amount to go with Verizon, who has better coverage here AND 4G here as well. Sprint does not have 4G here.

If Sprint exists as is but has to go to tiered plans I would not expect them to cost nearly as much as Verizon's or EVERYONE would jump ship. Sprint knows this. I wouldn't worry about it. As long as Sprint is the little guy they will offer something to positively differentiate themselves from the pack. ATT has the best speed, Verizon has the best coverage, Sprint has the best price. Unless Sprint can capture either (or both) of those two factors the only option they have is price as 'features' don't exist to differentiate in the post-smartphone world.
...and if Sprint does capture either or both of those elements then prices can and would go up as people flock to Sprint...then they aren't the underdog anymore, then you go to who is....or move to who has what you want the most.

That and I think a strategic partnership with Google...HYPER INVEST IN 3G and 4G, DITCH THE 2G, VOIP+Gvoice for EVERYTHING. Use those lower 2G frequencies for mind-shattering 4G penetration.
Now they are merely a wireless data/communications provider. The 2G setup is quickly becoming superfluous, as did AMPS towards the end of the transition with dual-mode phones in the early 00's.
Hopefully Sprint leads this trend...it will happen. Just watch...

I have broken 2 gigs twice in the year I've been on Sprint.
Amazon had a podcast app for free a couple of weeks ago. Then I started listening to The Regular Guys out of Atlanta. Podcasts will chew thru the data. A couple hundred megs a day listening to 3 hours of podcasts. Last billing cycle I broke 2 gigs. And the show is a riot. I litterally LOL in my cube.
I actually just saw the Tmobile unlimited family plan commercial. Said unlimited a few times. But in small text at the bottom of the screen is says 200mbs of Full Speed Data.
So, they start throttling you after 200mbs? Wow... I know for a fact I go. Over 200 a month.

Lmfao I dunno but I just came over from tmobile to sprint and I had 5GB on each phone each month... They ended up letting me out of the contract early with no ETF because I was throttled for 3 month straight. And i got to sell the phones I had for profit
Well more than what I paid for them....
3D > iClone
why are you guys tripping out. You will be locked in regardless. Verizon still is letting their unlimited 3g customers keep unlimited 4g if they get a 4g plan, and as long as they stay with verizon they keep unlimited. ATT allowed all people to renew their contract and keep unlimited even after their contract was over.

Sprint raising ETF? (Rumor )

So after sprint being one of the lowest ETF for 200$ it looks like they might changed that next month , what you guys think ?

Maybe by raising the ETF, they will reduce their losses regarding those that are taking advantage of the system. Hopefully, they'll pass some of those savings onto us or invest them into their network infrastructure. I was hoping that they'd upgrade their infrastructure with the $10 per month premium data fees but haven't seen it in my area.
My girlfriend got the HTC Hero less than a month before it was discontinued. There have been some updates that have bogged her phone down fiercely. Especially the newer updates to google maps. Her navigation wouldn't last more than a few minutes before FC'n. I was able to cancel her contract and get her a new phone for a reasonable amount of cash.
I would hope that they do not slap a static higher ETF on every phone and instead look at each phone individually. It wouldn't have been reasonable for her to have had anything more than a $200 ETF on her phone. Although I'm surprised that our Evo 3D's don't have a higher ETF and wouldn't be upset if they were.
The 30 day sprint guarantee is a great program and should be adequate time to know whether you want to be locked into a contract with them or not so the ETF is usually a non-issue with typical subscribers.
And as for not caring what the ETF is... I guess you guys weren't with AT&T when they got the Iphone. I was locked in my contract for another year and my bandwidth was horrid. It wasn't until Verizon got the iphone that they bothered to upgrade their network with all that iphone money they had been collecting for years. You never know how sprint service in your area may change in the future.

Won't affect me though because I don't plan on leaving Sprint. I just wish their data speeds would get better. But the alternative to that is Verizon which is like 1/3 more in price and capped data. What good is having 4328907540913409843 mbps download speeds if you can only use 2 gigs of it per month?

Since you already have a contract the ETF will remain the same. Unless you renew your contract. But I think that you have until a certain date in September to renew or change your contract without any ETF changes after that is $350.

It is only for a new contracts, old contracts stay the same.

The irony here is, doesn't this material change to a core term of the original contract allow existing customers OUT of said contracts binding terms without having to pay any ETF?

If that's accurate, than there is no alteration to existing contracts and you cant use it to get out. Although, who would want to leave Sprint now anyway? Especially us SERO folks.

Agreed, I'm SERO. Got 2 lines, and can add more if I want.
Well they have to start somewhere specially iPhone is going to sprint. I'm pretty sure sprint has been keep in eye on Verizon when they received the iPhone and what are the downfalls. It's all about data speed here if iPhone has 4G capabilities.

I just wish their data speeds would get better. But the alternative to that is Verizon which is like 1/3 more in price and capped data. What good is having 4328907540913409843 mbps download speeds if you can only use 2 gigs of it per month?

Take heart! Sprint has a large strategy meeting October 7th that's supposed to reveal significant 4G plans.
Hopefully it's: "You know those multi-cast towers we've been developing? Yeah, every tower that you could get 3G on before now has 4G enabled.... NOW!"
Like this morning, I tested our 4G in our area and this what I got. Download 9.87 mbps and upload 3.65 mbps. That's faster than my home internet

had sprint since 2001, onlly gonna effect you if you plan on back out of your contract early, i see no need to, i extend my contract all the time because they keep giving me bonuses to do so

I heard that, I hope it's big news that actually affects my service in my area. I would love to have 4G. I've only connected to 4G like 4 times since I first got my OG EVO back in may of 2010. Closest places that have 4G are Charlotte and Atlanta.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple was the only reason for ETF's going up on the carriers that have the iPhone.

Cancelling contract.

Has anybody ever had any luck cancelling a contract etf free for horrible quality of service in signal and data speed?

You have to make a strong case of:
1. Really bad service and what you did to escalate.
2. Really bad network coverage were you live l, work, hang out even while they advertise other.
In summary, you have to demonstrate that you had many things going wrong and nothing going good, what you did trying to get their attention and they didn't listen and then.... Maybe, if you have the right poker face, you might be lucky to get the etf off or pay less.
Good luck.

Keep your eyes open on slickdeals and google. It seems that every couple of months sprint is changing something that creates a loophole to get out of etf

I have been on the 00001.prl for like a week now and I can compares the speed to verizon back when I had verizon service... you should try that n plus people have said that they contract got cancel for roaming to much.. my current roaming is 1.4gb so hope they dont cancel my contract!!
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D using Tapatalk
im pretty sure if you do use the verizon prl that you do not get free mobile to mobile all calls count towards your minutes at least thats how it was when i used it for a month however the data speeds i got with it were at least 10 times faster than sprint!
Yea no mobile to mobile but u do get nights

I did, but it took over 8 months of complaining and troubleshooting with [email protected] (executive relations).

Using that much data within a week, you are bound to get cancelled. And FYI, sometimes they do force you to pay the ETF if you are forcing roaming like that.

They count as roaming minutes, and if more than half of your minutes used are on roaming, you will likely get flagged. I.e. if you used 400 minutes on sprint, and more than 200 minutes on verizon, you will get looked at.

1.4 gb in a week isnt mutch ive used upwards or 25 gb in a month
i haven't heard of one person paying an etf when sprint cancels them. Ive heard of them getting there bill and the etf is on there and they call and sprint removes it.
Im not sure why but from my acount looking at my call logs and doing the math they give u free nights and weekends still with roaming but not mobile to mobile

They send a letter with time frame to find a different carrier

With my service I'm lucky to get about a gig of data used each month. WiFi has saved my life and is pretty much the only thing that allows me to use my phone. For a while today i was stuck on 1X no tower work or nothin then it just goes to 3g. I have also nothiced a jig degradation of signal strength around my town. So I guess its Verizon prl for me.

Sprint Note 3 may be better off getting One Up program

I was crunching numbers because I am thinking about leaving AT&T for something cheaper, and I noticed that with the One Up program you only pay $65 for the unlimited service instead of 80, and more importantly you don't have to pay the $349 for the phone up front. All you should have to pay for is the activation fee initially.
If their One Up prices fall in line with other companies (we don't know what it will be for the note 3 yet, but I assume $27) then you are looking at about $92 a month. Over a year, if you include the price of the phone if you don't have One Up you are paying $1345 (80 a month, plus $345 for the phone, plus $36 for activation). If you are in the One Up program then its only $1140 for the year ($65 a month, estimating 27 a month for one up fee, $36 for activation).
I'm not sure if I'm going to join Sprint or not because of this, but it is pretty compelling. I'm also looking at Tmobile as an option because they have LTE in my area, while Sprint doesn't.

From what i heard about network quality from members on this board, i'd recommend looking at t-mobile instead. Also read through the Sprint triband note 3 fiasco. I think it may always be better to purchase your phone outright and go prepaid. Then when you're ready to upgrade just sell it.
They would have to pay me to stay with Sprint at this point as their network in Colorado is abysmal. Of the silly constant-upgrader plans, the Sprint solution is one of the more compelling from a price standpoint, though.
Dont do it

I had awesome 4 g coverage until 4 weeks ago now very crappy
and i get lies from sprint constantly why its happening.

My friend in Jax has Sprint and it's terrible as well. Doesn't get any better when he travels across the state either. Basically, it's dial up speeds when it should be 3G or 4G.
$70 BILLION DOLLAR BUYOUT.
Softbank should have bought some common sense this network sucks. Sprint the not now network lol.

Sprint is the fastest carrier in my area. My city and all surrounding cities are blanketed in Sprint LTE!! My upgrade isn't until 1-1-14, so I'm doing the One Up program in the morning instead of having to wait until January. Can't complain about not having to pay the $350!!

I was just at the Sprint store. They are having "provisioning" issues with the Note 3 for people wanting to do one up. So if you are going to do one up call before you go. This affects all Sprint stores. I bet the iPhone 5S was provisioned before the launch though...

Yup, they even called Sprint and confirmed that everyone was having issues. You did get it though, right? I just got home with mine though. I was the only customer in the store this morning, but was still in there 1.5 hours!! They said no other local store had been able to do it yet, but they finally got it to go through for me!!

Mine went through no problem. Left store' got in car was all working dandy. Corporate store in Delaware
Lots of familiar faces here as I look through the few threads already created. I got mine a little while ago and had to wait due to the provisioning problems. I did the One Up program and am looking forward to the onslaught of goodies to come. I finally gave up my S2, she was good to me. Let the fun begin!!
Yeah I finally got mine. There was a problem early this morning, I was there when they opened @ 9. It was a problem affecting all Sprint stores. The phones were not provisioned right but they got it squared away around mid 11-ish, because I called stores on both ends of the country and then called my store.
Any1 in florida done the one up upgrade? I went to corporate store and wad told fl is not doing it yet.

Can some explain this one up plan with my current situation? I have 1500 everything family plan with three sg3 phones. I can't upgrade until March, but I am eligible for one up.
My question is, since I'm eligible what are my options. Do I have to trade my sg3 or can I trade in a old phone? Also what about my bill? It's currently 240 does it increase?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Okay now I am NOT an expert at this but this is how I understand it and you seem to be at the same point I was. First be aware that if you want to do the one up you must must must change your plan to the unlimited plans they have now. On the unlimited plans the first phone is $50 a second phone is $40 and the third phone is the $30. Then on top of that you need to add $30 for unlimited data or $20 for 1 gigabyte or something like that. Because of this I did not do the one up program because I do not really care about Unlimited Talk I only care about unlimited data and it would cost me way more money to get unlimited data with their new plans. As far as the one to program yes since you're not eligible for renewal right now you will need to trade in your phone. I was told by sprint representative that you could put any phone on your line that was in working order and use that to trade in. Whether or not that is the truth is yet to be seen.

No One Up for me
I also have the 1500 Everything plan and similar to cherylbaker, I didn't opt for the One Up plan either because I did not want to change plans. If you read the fine print, the new plans are not as good and open the door to throttle data. I'm staying on the Everything plan until they kill it; I hope that never happens but with Sprint pushing "unlimited for life" with the new plans makes me think Everything is going away at some point. I was afraid adding a third line would force me to change plans but so far that is not the case.
The other thing with the One Up is that you need to turn in your current handset.
Try updating ur prl shouldn't that help
