Any idea what this update is for?

Have you read the Dev section?

Nvrm found it wifi update. Atleast they keeping updates up to date lol

Thread in the dev section is pretty useless... Anyone know what the update consists of yet? I've heard "will I lose root?" (of course) and it's supposed to be an update for WiFi (which isn't any better). Is this the Evdo update for October's announcement?

Apparently there's another update as well.
I just did the update. Didnt lose root and the update was successful. Seems to me like the transition from homescreens is snappier.
Check that... i did lose root after update. Superuser was still in my app drawer so i thought i was good. But just did a root check and om not!

Some have been saying that it was safe to take the ota... But there is another new one. I am betting it closes the hole. So be careful.

From what they've said, it's not recommended to take future OTAs, so a new one probably won't be safe... but I doubt it closes the hole as I would bet that they don't know what it is yet.
Just because someone discovered it, doesn't necessarily mean that HTC already knows where to find it.
I won't be taking anymore updates, because I don't want to lose the opportunity for root, but I bet this one wouldn't close the hole.
But, thanks for the heads-up about the new one. I haven't noticed it yet. Too busy tearing my phone apart lol.

Not taking any ever... Doesn't anybody ever learn?
Aside from the random FC i have absolutely no issues... Aside from a weak 3g radio, but, there have been no radio updates as far as I know.
Also sense blows. That is all.

i just checked and their wasn't another OTA.
Nothing new sense the Launch Day Updates
That's odd because I certainly got a new OTA prompt. And it is the first time that when I decided... The prompt went away.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
What was the original one? Because I think this one that prompted me was 1.13.651.7
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I don't think that this a new OTA you are getting. There were 2 that were pushed so far, and that is all Sprint lists on their website.
Something even more interesting though, and looked for the Evo3D Support section and it doesn't exist... I know that it was there about a week ago, just seems odd that there isn't any support section and they don't even show a link for the Evo3D to select as a phone in the support section..
Don't jump to conclusions on the phone not being there, but I would guess that it isn't there for a reason.. Hopefully something good!
OP: The one you were prompted for was the 2nd one.
no new ota atm
No new update for me either.
Is there a way to see the change log for HTC updates?

I think the closest you will get is on Sprint's website. Like I said a few posts back HTC doesn't have the EVO 3D listed anymore on there support section. That is where they used to show you what was in it, a little more detailed than Sprint..
Whats going on there... We can only wonder.

Anyone else having issues with slow ota download speeds. I'm using wifi and it only got 5 mb done total after leaving it to download overnight.

Nope, I just installed the OTA (1.13.651.7 from the 24th.)
downloaded fast over WiFi.
No new OTA here. Last time the 3vo had an OTA was the day of public release.

I was wondering if there was one in the making or not

So how is ur phone running with the update?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
When we see a leaked ROM in the forums, is this a reliable indicator that an OTA update is forthcoming? (e.g. Gingerbread for Fascinate)
At some point in the future, yes. Soon? Probably not, especially given the number of bugs in the leak
They hosed the ota all together im on eclaire and I cant update unless its by flashing

The OTA is not hosed, I just used it 20 minutes ago to simply test your theory, needed to re-stock anyways. You sir, are either grossly misinformed, or just a weird troll. Them taking OTA out period makes no sense. Why the hell would they do that? SO that THOUSANDS of people would POUR into Verizon stores to get an update (Like you claimed in your thread)? No. Retarded. Next case.
Downloading the OFFICIAL 4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_6 update! I HOORAY! Looks like GTalk, lapdock, messaging, car audio, panoramic (camera), and Hotspot are all being addressed...

One thing that I found out is that if you install the Google+ ICS version, you are going to run into problems with your Calendar (events disappearing when created on your phone to your Google Calendar) and Contacts (the ones that you have associated with social networks apparently). I re-installed the Market GB version and everything else was back to normal.
Hi does anyone know if they had run into problems with the OTA and rooted only phones? I only have shabbypenguin's all in one click root applied
Can anyone kindly confirm what to expect if I did the latest OTA update in that situation? I think from the last official OTA update, I lost root and had to reapply shabby's again. Will that work again in case it happens with the 10/12 OTA?
Thanks for the info as it can't be asked on the mopho official support, and I want to keep my wifi tethering. Cheers.

Although I haven't rooted my baby, my experience is that EVERY OTA will cause a loss of root, and and you're always better off waiting for a ROM with the new junk from the OTA included. You can download it without installing, and though...

There was a few cases in the prerelease where some rooted users were experiencing problems but not many so I wouldn't worry about it. And yes you will lose root.

So I'm a little confused... Is the 'general' thread for everyone, or just those who think they're better/smarter... Cause you're being a little more smart assed than you need to be... Just sayin...

I have been able to download and begin the update, but it fails with the exclamation mark in the warning triangle, and reboots to the home screen. It then tells me that the Software Update has Failed!
I'm rooted on Stock [and most up to date, sans this update] 2.3.4 ROM at full battery
What root method did you use?

Okay... just did the OTA update over home wifi, prerooted earlier with shabby's one click and everything went fine.
AS you all mentioned, root will be lost...
after 10/12 update: lost root, reapplied shabby's one click root method and everything is back as is. Just posting to confirm... thank you.

Have you modified the system image in any way, such as deleting systems apps and what not? That can sometimes screwup OTA updates.

Mine is OCR, otherwise very stock. OTA stuck at 0% downloading for 10 hours.
From looking at forums here, Moto, other places, many OTA failures while downloading and installing whether rooted or not.
I ran an update last night (maybe around 9 or 10pm EDT), it just sat there and did nothing, at least until 1am. When I got up this morning, it was stuck at 1% downloading. I turned off Wi-Fi/Tasker, rebooted, and the thing downloaded and installed without a hitch. FYI, I had rooted using torpedo, lost it after update, and then re-ran the scripts after update and everything seems back to normal.
I also attempted to update my wife's Photon, which is completely stock (no root) -- hers also waited a long time before downloading, but it finished the download sometime overnight and updated fine.

+1 he is right happened to me. My question is if u do a factory reset does all the apps come back?

It has been a while since I have rooted a phone and not run a custom rom. If I root will that affect my ability to receive the notice for the ICS update that is coming here before long?
If you only root, not deleting anything you should get the good news.
Cheers

Mainly Verizon bloat. If you freeze or delete anything that was installed when you pulled it out of the box, the OTA will fail.

I froze some of the bloat, but unfroze it and the OTA won't work. I have been trying several approaches, but am at the point of using RSD to flask back to the first rom and OTA up to current. Lots of work, little time. Is there a better solution?
Thanks
Perhaps a temp-unroot with ota rootkeeper can do the trick.
You are sure you did not freeze or deleted anything? Because that should not affect the message that there is an update.
It should only cost the update installation to fail for as far I experianced.

Hey, guys guess what? If you go to the motorola update page, it says that the photon is getting updated to Ice cream sandwich and the bootloader is going to be unlocked!!
Nice try. But that's not gonna work. No one would even bother checking the Motorola website in anxiety.
LOL ...it must be April
Even if it were true I feel it would be too little too late.
i thought about making a thread like this earlier. but i then realized no one would be dumb enough to believe it.
When I saw this I thought it was alluding to the maintenance update we might get.
We have to get at least 1 more of those, right?
