[Q] F4 Phantom Boot Screen on every boot? - TouchPad General

Awesome little tablet with an awesome overclock, but does anyone know if the f4 phantom kernel is supposed to go through it's runtimes on boot, every time? As in it's applying the kernel every reboot. Etc? Thanks guys.
Balael

F15 did that too. I think all the kernels go through a similar boot process, but the stock kernel covers it all up with the "HP" splash screen. Uberkernel also uses the HP splash screen.

Ok cool, awesome. Thanks for the quick reply.

That's my only beef with the OC kernel. I'm hoping it won't be needed much longer and it can be eliminated.
I use the Uberkernel for my wife's TP.

Why is there beef with it? There is a reason it is beta and the verbose boot helps to see issues that may occur with messing with kernel settings and/or problems with hardware on the device.

Das BAMF 1.6 = Reboot Central

I like das BAMF quite a bit, it seems to be headed in the direction of being the premiere customer Thunderbolt ROM, but MAN is it reboot-y in it's current state. I've reformatted/wiped everything, but the second I try to overclock in the slightest, I'll get random reboots/screen lockups pretty much constantly. This can be easily reproduced by quickly sleeping/waking a few times, or often by just letting the phone sleep naturally then trying to wake it.
When put to stock voltage it DOES seem to behave a lot better, my question is do I somehow have a non-overclockable T-Bolt, or is there something likely screwed up with the latest radio/kernel/ROM or whatever? I can downgrade back to a Nandroid backup no problem but if the problem's with the radio, for example, that's not gonna help.
I had some problems with the stock kernel on BAMF 1.6 remix screen seemed to get less responsive after a while. Changed Kernels seems to have helped.
What Kernel did you switch to? I'm not sure if BAMF has the same Kernel issues the Droid did when using custom ROMS (i.e. the ROM has to play nice with the Kernel by design or you run into problems)
I am a big fan of these kernels: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021404
I have not had any reboot issues with any of them though I do seem to get one reboot always when I change kernels or ROMS while I am setting things up. Maybe Radio I don't know but after that one it does not happen again.
Brilliant, seems to be working a LOT better. Anyone else dealing with random reboots definitely check this out
each phone is different in how it handles the kernels. i would just try out a bunch and see what plays nice with your phone. my thunderbolt can handle the extremely undervolted roms as well as the one's that are overclocked high. my friends though, cant. it is all about trial and error. i would just backup before you do anything though, just in case.
Yea. I'm using the minimal kernel - normal with BAMF re-mix 1.6, and so far, no reboots at all. (hope I did not just jinx myself).

+1 on these kernels. I used the normal and the 192x version of this kernel on Bamf's rom and no reboots.

Which rom/kernel are you running?

I know it is still pretty early in the development of this device, but I thought it might be interesting to track the popularity of various developers work.
So currently which rom/kernel are you running?
Deodexed rom - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134819
pershoot's kernel - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138167
bonzai - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156722
touchwiz - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162302
Still on stock but will be rooting.
A modified variant of Pershoot's kernel - I enabled the conservative governor because I'm a battery whore.
Edit: There's a deodexed ROM available somewhere???
HC 3.1 + TouchWiz by Seo
I was using Bonsai's ROM but i had some issues to unlock my tablet after a few mins idle. I'm now trying Deodexed ROM.
Running Pershoot's latest (7.12). Probably going back to stock again though. Anytime Setpcu is "OnDemand" it seems laggy. Easiest way to notice is just swiping through the home screens. Its very choppy unless its set to performance, but I don't want it runnin at 1.4 constantly (for obvious reasons). Stock kernel on "interactive" seems to run best for me. Anyone have any ideas why its choppy 'ondemand'?
Also, for those running TouchWiz.... Did it change the icons (back, home, etc.) and clock font on the bottom of the screen? I've seen some older pictures of touchwiz, and a video on youtube and it looked different. I know its a small price to pay, but I really like the look of the buttons/clock now and don't want to lose it!

this is not a kernel issue.
this is a launcher issue.
it goes half framerate at various times, on HC. possibly due to GC (which causes a penalty).
the particular ondemand in the kernel set works good (it is not stock (what shipped)) and is responsive when dealing with app switching, scrolling, etc., ramping up when needed, etc. with minimal slowdown. there is still more work to do though.
i cannot fix HC's bloat. i can make the overall experience better though.
the kernel for sure is a marked improvement over stock. 'most' everyone that has been using this, has relayed this to me. i myself can def. see a difference. anyone else that hasn't, should produce logs of such slowdowns (that they feel is related to the kernel), for improvement moving forward.

Pershoot, I'd like to first say thank you and I appreciate all your efforts. I hope I didn't come across as complaining about your kernel; I know everyone has different results. Personally, I can't stand the choppiness of swiping pages on the homescreen and in the apps folder. However, in everything else, it seems to be great. For me, I had a lot of freezes with your first couple releases. So far with 7.12, I have none. Its easy to notice the difference especially because you have gotten the keyboard delay out of "browser"
I wanted to let you know of my issues (choppiness on homescreen), but I couldn't post to the developer forum yet as I was under 10 posts, which is why I posted here. I will let you if I experience any other issues (i keep going back and forth between kernels because i can't decide which tradeoff is more important)

as the releases move forward, so will the resolution of bugs and uniformity across many differing type of devices in the same class.
as for the launcher,
i wouldnt call it choppy, more so it going in slo mo and getting a lil stuck at times. you can tell its a problem with the launcher itself, because it really isnt prevalent anywhere else. also in 3.0.1, it seems to have been a bit better, in my opinion.
it def. has gotten better tho (as now its more responsive), but i cant really do much about it. its worst on stock, in my experience with it thus far. slamming the freq. speed way up to compensate, isn't really a cure for it, as it would still happen (just give the illusion of things being faster).
you can even test this for yourself, and replace the launcher with say launcher pro (for example), and then observe the results.
stock 3.1 with pershoot overclock @ 1.4 GHz. Working great and stable. Found it to be quicker than the bonsai ROM. TouchWiz ROM is def slow.
is there anyway to get the stock rom gt 7510 with the samsung app

Yes, Touchwiz changes to the other icons. I found them kind of dull, and prefer the stock HC ones. Though the screen capture and mini apps were cool.

[Q] rom kernel combo and more...yes I'm a noob

Hi guys,
I'm running Olympian trinity rom w. xbeats and I just flashed Ziggys new kernel. I'm still a noob and I'm having a little difficulty understanding OC and UV and what the governors do and how they work together.
Any using this rom/kernel combo? If so can you recommend some settings. Would like a good balance of speed and battery saving without my phone freezing on me.
Also, I enjoy flashing roms! I use TB to backup and restore my apps. I don't mind this as much, but having to enter all my emails logins over and over again is a pain. Any way to backup/restore my mail without having to go through this grueling process through TB?
What is a splash screen, boot animation and how do I change them if I choose?
Sorry for all these questions, but I really need to up my knowledge on android as I'm trying to get my wife to join the dark side and I need to know what I'm doing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use that ROM, but that kernal is very good, and at 1.52ghz is a good middle of the road,
A splashscreen is what you see when you turn your phone on before you see the bootanimation. I believe the stock one was a green HTC...
The boot animation would be for instance the sprint with the golden 3d lettering panning in... Aka stock boot animation... In the themes section their are guides all over, look for the collections,

Thanks a lot man!
What Rom / kernel would do you like and would recommend for newcomers that doesn't require to much tinkering?
I decided to switch to revolutionary rom...its seems like the included kernel is OC to 1.62ghz.
Duuuude u gotta try this one

Its the sickest ROM out there really stable n just awesome it's a keeper on my side ..have yet to use a kustom kernel tho but I will soon haha but try this one...trust me...you will love it! Lol

ShoStock2 3.1.0 + Siyah... OC issues?

Okay I've been seeing a few post about it now but I've been running Shostock2 3.0.5 with the Siyah Kernel.
I tried the Cherry picker for 2 days didn't like it for some reason.... Maybe I was biased based on the fact I came from Shostock 1.9.4 GB + Siyah and LOVED IT. But I guess it was time to cross the dark side and join the ICS fanboi's......
First, I wanted to say EVEN when I was on the ShoStock2 3.0.5 AND now currently 3.1.0 (Flashed Today about 30 mins ago....) People are having issues trying to OC to 1.6..... For me, not gonna happen it'll crash and just reboot. I've tried it muliple times and just doesn't work. New Install, Wipe Everything... NO GO for 1.6gHz.
I ran the phone smoothly so far on 1.5 prior to this, I had the phone very steady and stable with running 1.4.
Is anyone else experiencing the same? I know someone told me Not all phones are the same and just because someone else can doesn't mean your phone can.... I find it odd sense it's the same hardware and Setup. But hey, I'm not a tech or developer...
Anyways any feedback?

Whoever told you this is correct. Even though our ATT SGSIIs all have the same Exynos C210 chipset, the chips themselves are not identical. Slight variances in the manufacturing process are inevitable and, in part, account for the varying degrees of tolerance that we see for overclocking and undervolting. My ATT Samsung Captivate was perfectly stable when OC'ed to 1.6 ghz. A LOT of people couldn't get above 1.2-1.3 ghz while still maintaining acceptable stability.
I'm on SHOStock2 3.1.0 (been running all the latest SHOStock2 builds since release and always with the most recent Siyah kernel) and I never OC beyond 1.4 ghz. I, personally, have never see any noticable performace gains on my phone when running at higher clock speeds, and the phone is significantly less stable. OC/UV settings are always YMMV.
Thanks for the reply...
Someone had replied to me in another one of my posted threads. You can check my recent post on that thread.
Anyways, I updated to 3.1.0 but then I just revert back to the 3.0.5 instead. For some reason I felt that it was better. Plus I was tired of getting the Shell notifications.....
Yes, I know I can go into SU and change the settings but I wanted to make sure that nothing was fishy going on so I wanted to see notifications.
So I'm currently on ShoStock2 3.0.5 + Latest Siyah + LE5 Modem. As far as I'm concern, it runs very smooth and has pretty decent battery life =) I have My and my Wifey's phone I can mess with (Hers is also a S2) But again thanks for the reply.
i did a dirty flash of 3.1 over 3.0.5 and i kept getting freezes when plugging in the AC adapter and also screen-off freezes. I assumed it had to do with the kernel change (i did not disable setcpu first) so i went to recovery and wiped cache and davlik, froze on boot. So i did a complete wipe and flashed the rom clean... once i made any change to the kernel (OC, UC, UV, changed governor, flashed new kernel) i would get stuck in a bootloop. even my nandroid of 3.0.5 seem buggered which really doesnt make sense.
Did a full wipe again and flashed unoriginal for the time being, not sure if it's my device or the ROM (most likely something ive done, lol)

[Q] Won't boot past recovery with custom kernel.

Hey everyone.
I've had this issue for about as long as I remember, and never really cared enough to get to the bottom of it until recently. I have had on and off success with various roms either working and booting or not and getting me caught in a recovery loop, and so far I've isolated the issue to whether or not the rom comes with a custom kernel. For example, right now I am running the AndroWook 1.51 on the 10.4.2.17 base with the stock kernel and no bloat. I never made a NVFlash, but that's never caused an issue, mostly because I've had success in recovering from bad flashes in the past. But I digress...
I was really hoping to try the Energy Rom because from what I was reading it was loads faster than AndroWook. When I first tried to install the zip in recovery it puts me into another boot loop, but restoring and wiping and installing back to AndroWook lets me boot again (Again, only with the stock kernel option. For those unfamiliar, it comes with a slew of different kernels to choose from).
I guess in the end I'd like to bring my tablet on par with my Nexus 4's performance. I know benchmarks don't mean much (especially since it'd be something like 5000 compared to my phone's 20K on AnTuTu), but I'd like to have an excuse to use my tablet a little bit more. I would like to try and get a nice high powered kernel on this thing and overclock it to hell since I have the dock for extra battery.
Anyways guys, any input you could provide would be much appreciated. I'm familiar with the workings of Samsung and LG units, but this tablet is really unlike anything that I've worked with before, and I just haven't really had the time to get down and dirty with the thing.
Thanks,
Horvaticus

All i can tell you is check with flumpster over in androwook (hairybean) if he cant sort it out no one can....
Here's the thing though, it shouldn't matter who made the rom or not, because the problem applies to ANY Kernel that I try to install. I'm going to try some things and report back if I solve the issue. Any more input is appreciated though.
