Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to read my post. I am set to receive a Photon I traded for at sometime, hopefully, this week and my question is...
On the Sprint line I plan to activate the MoPho on I currently have an insured device. Does my insurance automatically switch to covering the MoPho upon activating on that line, and if no, is it possible for me to get accident insurance for the device through Sprint?
Thanks again.
In short, Yes. Your insurance will cover the new device on the same line.

As lilrepo stated, yes. I was not eligible for an upgrade, however it was time for me to get a new phone. So I jumped on ebay and picked up a Brand New Photon, called sprint once I got it and set it up, and they said the insurance WILL transfer.
Guys, thanks.
There you go!!!

Buying a Photon tomorrow from a private party, if all goes well with the esn will Sprint allow me to add TEP to my line with a swap from my EVO? Thx in advance!
Yes as long as you have insurance now you'll have no problem its swappable
You're covered no matter what phone you're using. TEP is applied to your line, not your phone. So if you're using the Photon and somehow shatter the screen on your Evo, you could put the Evo back on your line and use TEP to get it repaired/replaced. Some people would call that fraud, but it's not since you own both the phones and, again, TEP sticks to your line, not your phone.
My experience with Verizon's insurance was the phone was registered to the PHONE not the line of service. The good news is either way you're ok because the insurance provider through sprint is having open enrollment through this month of Sept. So you can add it no matter your current status but I'd still call for curiousness.
Once you have insurance on the phone, you don't even have to go through Sprint. The company is Asurion. They do insurance for EVERY cell phone company in the US. To make a claim, you go to http://www.phoneclaim.com, pick your company, and file a claim.
If something happens, make sure you pick a recent date for the incident, otherwise if you pick a date that's like a month away, they'll say "Sorry, we can't replace your phone because you have 30 days to report an incident" (paraphrased). The cool thing is also that, unlike Verizon, you can charge the phone replacement ($100) to your Sprint bill. And they overnight you the phone and charger (if you need one).

I have insurance now through best buy, so you're saying they WILL NOT let me add their coverage once I swap?

Thx for clarifying this for me, I didn't read your reply before I responded to a previous post. Its greatly appreciated, thx again!
Errr I don't know possibly if open enrollment is going on right now. I'd say call up sprint and just ask to add insurance to your account and if that fails go to a corporate store.
I got insurance like 6 months after my initial start after my S30 started messing up told them I thought I had it on there lol
If I remember correctly from the last time I put a phone on ins bought from a third party, Sprint called to verify the phone "worked" then there was like a 30 day period before coverage actually started. I'm not saying this is 100% the case. I would call and verify with Sprint.

There is a 30 day"waiting" period before you can make a claim.. I believe this is to make sure the phone works, but not certain.

Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone who has received a Replacement from Asurion knows whether they received a New or Refurbished Photon? Also, with mine being lost, did they include a SIM Card? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
J
Got mine about 4 months ago and it was new as far as i could tell, and it came with a new Sim

I got mine in October. #1. Photon was not originally on the list. So I got away a little cheaper than $100.00! #2. From my EVO days, when Sprint replaces a phone look under battery. If it has yellow sticker with circle and 'R' in the middle, its a referb!
I argued out and got brand new phone, but I assume each case is different?
Hope it helps.....

To your first question, yes they will replace a phone that is lost or stolen for $100.00 deductible.
Lastly, and Photon is still being actively sold and is on amazonwireless for $0.01, you get another Photon. You do not get to Pick-&-choose. Your insured for Photon, not shopping spree! Now if Photon was off the market and not available............
I just had a replacement sent to me from sprint, I am in Kuwait the technician on the phone originally told me to go to my local sprint store, I asked where in the dessert there is a sprint store... anyway, I got a refurb photon as an advanced replacement. Not really an answer to your question but it is something...
Hello,
I got the Replacement and it is a Refurbished Device. No SIM Card even. Pretty weak considering it was a Lost Phone Claim. I happened to have an extra SIM Card so it was not that big of a deal.
As for the Refurbishment, it looks like a brand new phone. I saw the sticker in the Battery Bay which I took off. I am eligible for an Upgrade May 18th and will most likely sell it along with the HD Dock, Bluetooth Keyboard, and Mouse. Hopefully, Motorola will have a RAZR like LTE Model for Sprint. However, this is highly unlikely. I honestly do not know what I am going to do next as I have until December to use the last of the Premier Gold Annual Upgrades and definitely want to get an LTE Phone and hopefully not an iPhone (if the 5 is LTE)
Cheers,
JJ
Hey guys my mom is offering me a phone on her upgrade so basically that means that I'll be getting her phone #(if the following doesn't work out) so let's begin. Is it possible to get the Evo on HER line(#) then call sprint and ask them to put the Evo that was meant for her # to MY #? The reason is that I have tons of peoples numbers and I don't want to stir confusion with my contacts. Another question is that I have a Nexus S, so let's say I can't put the Evo on my # so I just get her #. Is it possible for me to downgrade from a Nexus S to a dumb phone so my mom has no trouble with battery life and touch screens? Thanks guys, they probably sound like stupid questions since sprint just wants your money but I'm just trying to make sure I can. Anyways thanks!
Sprint will happily flip flop numbers between lines. In fact that's what they call it "flip flop". All you have to do is ask them. They didn't even charge me. Took like 3 seconds.
So the Evo that will be upgraded with her line can easily be switched over to my line?
Also can she keep using the flip phone she had before upgrading? Customer service would probably be wondering why she upgraded but is till using her old phone lol
They don't care. You have to have a data plan to get the LTE but the flip phone will still work on it.
they can and will just switch the upgrades. so basically she has an upgrade right now. you take that one and then whenever the date is for your upgrade that will become her upgrade.

I did the same thing. Upgraded on my mother line. When i received the phone, i just activated on my phone #. My mother still using the phone she was using and that upgrade has no bearing on the plan or anything else.

Okay thank you guys! Awesome community we have here!
If all else fails, just activate it on her phone, then swap her phone back to her old phone immediately, then you will be free to use that one as it will clear the ESN.

That's what I was thinking of doing at first. Lol but if I can just "flip-flop" then it wont be necessary

So as long as I don't activate the phone on my moms line it won't be charged with the 10$ data fee?
I used my wifes upgrade, no problem. Her contract gets reset instantly and you can activate the phone on any number.
You can't flip phones numbers around without sprints assistance. Account has to be tagged LTE or not. I can no longer activate my old evo through the web site, when could before it was tagged LTE.
One catch if you activate the phone on a line that is not your moms you waive the 30 day return policy. That is, you instantly own it.
You also lose mail-in rebates if not activated on your moms line, but that's not an issue this time with the lte, since it has instant rebate.

I did this exact thing. They call it a "Cross Upgrade" and it is allowed. My Mom's plan was actually charged the $10 premium data fee but I called in and they removed it.

As logo mentioned above, you now have no way if returning if you aren't satisfied? That's what is worrying me. If I do the Cross Upgrade and I don't like the Evo then I'm stuck with it lol. Anybody know if I can activate it on my moms line first then deactivate and put it on my line an it'll keep the return policy?
Does any one know how long after buying can we still add Insurance?
I dropped mine yesterday and the screen is just black and there is a very miniscule crack at the bottom right corner. The screen doesn't turn on though so I am stuck. I bought mine on June 23rd and received it on June 25th.
I had it in an Incepio case but it obviusly didn't help, it was first time I ever dropped it. It wasn't even that bad of a drop just from table to floor.
I am wondering if I can add insurance and get it replaced after that.

its usually 30 days after purchase.
I wonder if they will check since mine is rooted lol.
Assuming you mean insurance (warranty is something you get for free and doesn't cover this sort of problem)... Whatever the duration is, I'm sure you're still within the window. But they probably will need to see the device first, since you would probably not be the first person to break their phone within that window. Verizon is a bunch of morons, but when it comes to money-making, they're not going to people do that.
I think your best bet would probably be to try to get third-party insurance, like what is offered by SquareTrade... http://www.squaretrade.com/android-landing1.
Keep in mind, whichever insurance you have, you'll still have to pay a deductible to get a new phone (or get your phone fixed). For squaretrade, it's $99.
EDIT: Ensquared seems to have a cheaper option. Both the up-front cost of the plan as well as the deductible are less expensive: http://www.ensquared.com/catalog/phone-insurance/1-year-phone-insurance-smartphone

Lol... I need to get used to this many-carriers-for-the-same-phone scenario. I'm used to just assuming everyone is on Verizon in my HTC Incredible forums
The point still stands though... I doubt any of the carriers would be dumb enough to give someone an insurance plan without seeing the phone first. But, since I've never gotten insurance on my own carrier, let alone yours, I can't say for sure.

you are not going to believe this, i thought i would try and get insurance anyways, and after a 5 min conversation with the CS t-mobile dude and him telling me i was over the 14 days for insurance, he gave it to me. I called and reported lost after 2 days and after $130 later i am getting one today delivered at home. I even asked if it would be refurbished or not and lade at Assurion said most likely new since it is so new. Now i have to wait and see.

So just a question...
I recently bought a new phone from Best Buy and got the phone almost free with a new contract.
I made the new line to get the phone subsidized price and put it to my personal account. I plan on possibly cancelling the contract after the 14 days.
Unfortunately, when trying to unroot my phone, there was a mistake that was made partially my fault, partially the guide I read (Not here). So thankfully, I was within my 14 days. The phones bootloader was saying "Locked" and "Tampered". When I returned the phone to best buy, They exchanged the phone without a problem.
Now, since it wasn't through Verizon directly, can Verizon charge my account? And if not, If i suspend my Service for the meantime without billing, can I still cancel my service after the 14 days? (paying the ETF ofcouse)
I believe if you cancel your contract within 180 days you're supposed to return your equipment or you may be charged additionally for it. I used to work for a retailer and that was the policy, so I would assume that it would be the same with Best Buy. That being said, you can still cancel your service, but you might be charged extra for the equipment.

I work at Beat Buy mobile and there isn't anyway you way that the returned phone will come back to you in anyway. As far as cancelation you can always cancel after the 14 days, but you'll just be charged an early termination fee. However, if you return within the 14 days you'll just be charged the activation fee and prorated charges. You will not have to pay for the phone at all once returned, even after the 14 day policy.

So I used to work at a retailer, and we had "Chargebacks" if returned after the 14 days, but before the 180. So Best Buy does not do this? That is good news.
Now even though I returned an obviously bricked via rooting phone, they can't somehow charge me or do something to my account? If so you just made my day! (Not that you peformed this miracle, just helped me worry less lol)

Ya man I've been working their for about three years. I've returned countless amount of phones, activated and deactivated after activations and have never heard a story about someone getting caught because of a bricked phone being exhanges. All you have to do is activate the new phone on your plan once and once you do that you can deactivate it and do with it what you will. You should be straight man don't stress it.

I activated my HTC one originally with my new number. Then I switched Sims so I can keep my HTC one on my personal account. When I bricked the phone they swapped my HTC one with the new one. That one has yet to be activated on the new line that I'm cancelling. Should I activate it in that account anyway? Or screw it and just cancel with my galaxy s4 on that account still (the line is suspended at the moment and I sold the s4 since anyway)

Ya bro you should be straight because when you signed the terms & conditions it was with that bricked phone and when best buy did it in exchange the pos system is not affiliated with Verizon at all.

If you brick your phone and return it under warranty or exchange that is considered fraud and should not be discussed on this site.
